I just took a short trip to North Carolina while eating at Stueys BBQ in Locust Valley. It's a small, mostly take out place with a few stools( and I think a back yard terrace) . They have smoked brisket, ribs, chicken and more. I had the brisket sandwich with corn bread and coleslaw. Top quality food. We walked in and the lady behind the counter was slicing apart a tender chicken. The menu is simple and it's easy to choosse what you want. Most of it was sold out by the time we arrived. My boo and I ordered a pound of the brisket with a mini cornbread and two bottles of water. It would be great if they had more non-carbonated options. We sat in the back patio and the guy behind the counter brought out our tray of yum yums along with some bbq sauce for dipping. The bbq sauce was good but it doesn't go with the brisket. It takes away the smokiness of the meat. Th brisket is so tender and tasty and the burnt ends are really good too. The cornbread is the perfect consistency and the jalapenos are tasteful but don't issue any heat. You can also see the corn inside the cornbread too! My boo and I ate everything and it was the perfect amount of food between the two of us. So glad we got to try someplace new and we'll definitely be back for more in the future! Recently ordered take out, ordered late in the day thus food was over cooked / over done. One item was the half chicken which was dry to the bone, plus both small and very expensive. Ribs also over done. Feel like I got the end of day / bottom of the barrel. String beans were not cooked at all. Kind of disappointing as previous visits were better. Probably the best barbecue spot in Long Island the ribs are perfect. The brisket is perfect and oh my God the chorizo is addictive, friendly service, easy parking. All the sides are made from scratch, which seems like it should be obvious but (local place here in Seacliff where I live get their salads and sides out of a Cisco 5 gallon tub which drives me up the wall! when you spend 12 hours on cooking brisket or more and can't take -1hr to make a large thing of coleslaw or potato salad. We visited Stuey's on an unusually beautiful day in December after a hike through a local park. We were very excited about some good barbeque after our exercise. To say that Stuey's underwhelmed us would be an understatement. I'll start with the negatives. The staff was not very friendly. It seemed like we disturbed them during an off time of the day. Several of the menu items were unavailable and this "smokehouse" doesn't even smoke their chicken. In addition, the only place to sit was at the counter staring at the staff who were sitting on the other side of the counter staring at their phones. That meant that we had to take our BBQ to go, over a 30-minute drive. As for the food, the sausage was very good and would be the only reason I would stop back in at all - but only if I were in the neighborhood. The ribs were good, but nothing fantastic. All in all, I would probably not go back to Stuey's unless I was near by and wanted to pick up some sausage. Otherwise, I can get as good, if not better barbeque closer to home. read more

Great find! Saw some good reviews on Yelp so my daughter and I took a ride into locust valley. Very little place with the smell of bbq wafting outside luring you in. Parking is plentiful behind the joint and it has a small, covered back area to dine in. The pulled pork was delicious, moist and just enough fat for texture and flavor. The brisket was great as well, moist and pulled apart easily. We ordered corn bread which my daughter loved s as were the sweet potatoes which were like dessert . Definitely will return read more

BBQS in NYC have always disappointed me so I honestly was not expecting much, especially since we had just returned from a trip to Texas a mere few months ago. There were sold out of brisket and all the sandwiches (ran out of bread) so we opted for a full rack of ribs and the cornbread. I have never had cornbread like this. Extremely moist and packed with tiny bits of corn and jalapeño, I would've purchased this by the loaf to enjoy it slowly over the week. Their ribs were pretty epic, just the right amount of seasoning and juiciness, the top crust of the meat was a bit stringy and overdone but that sauce made up for it. That sauce is the best bbq sauce I've ever had. They need to sell it in stores. It's that good. They do not answer the phone when you call. I called for hours on Sunday to order a rack of ribs. They finally answered when I called again at 4:30pm, but they "were out of ribs, because they were busy". The man who answered the phone said he was "too busy making ribs to answer". Competition quality bbq. The brisket was literally unwrapped from the warmer in front of me. Tender and soft, great peppery flavor gives me little beads of sweat. Perfect amount of heat. The bbq sauce I could drink from a cup, peppery like the brisket but with a red or Cheyenne pepper heat to it also. Thick viscosity as if it were almost chucky. Subtle Apricot or apple sweetness to it for balance. The chorizo was a great size, had a nice snap to it. I enjoyed my lunch special. I got the brisket, pit beans and corn bread. The sodas here are extra small. Total was $17 and change. Pretty pricey for a lunch special. I was nervous at 1st, guy pulls out a loaf of white bread, small piece of brisket. And that's it. But the sandwich, the white bread and brisket just melt down in your mouth. Brisket on it's own was good, but i drizzled alittle bbq sauce on the side and perfect.
