I am so thrilled with my experience with Jose & Stumpman. I reached out to see if they could haul away or chip and haul away a good size stack of dead bamboo. Jose answered the phone, explained they absolutely could take care of that and explained their minimum. I offered to send over pictures of our stack of dead bamboo and he text me his email address. When I got home that evening, I sent over pictures and he responded right away that it would be no problem to take care. I told him I'd move the pile to the front of our house /along the street and he said he could grab it the next day or day after. The very next morning right about 8am of his workers was there and quickly trailered the debris and was off. Had these guys remove two small juniper trees right up next to the house. Worked with me to remove some bricks in the way of working the stump grinder. Whole job took less than two hours. They chip all of the wood, so let them know if you want to keep it. I feel the price was fair. They did leave some of the chipped wood in the hole where the stump was which is a little of a mess, but still overall a great experience. read more

Although they did send a representative out to give us an estimate, there was no follow-through. I called and left messages twice. It has been a week since my second message and still no response. I hate contractors who pretend they are interested and then it turns out they are not. The first message I left was actually in person with someone who works for Stumpman and promised to take care of it at the end of the day. The second message I left wasvoice mail to the company, it was recorded so no excuses! In fact if you call Stumpman you will get a voice mail message that specifically says they care about customer service. LIES. I highly recommend Stumpman. After contacting many tree removal companies for pricing and availability they were quick to respond to my inquiry, it was easy to schedule an appointment with them on a very short notice, their price was very competitive and they removed a very large tree that was over our house and fence without any issues or damage. When asked to grind numerous additional stumps they were able to do it the same day for a fair price. One of the stumps was under our fence line and they did a great job removing most of it without any damage to the fence. They cleaned up the mess leaving the yard looking better than when they arrived. The only issue I had, which was very minimal, was 1 small stump and a portion of the main tree was left behind underneath the shavings. But when contacted, they quickly returned on a Saturday to complete the work. They were very easy to work with and they completed the work I requested for a fair price and to my expectations. If you run your own business and you quote someone a certain price make an appointment to come out in the morning to their house to drop off a cord of wood for the price you quoted then call in the morning to confirm that price and tell you that they never said that and never even would have said that and then hang up on you nice way to run your business . If you want a long drawn out doesn't return your calls rude , and give you one price for a quote and then falls back on it and doesn't honor that price not a way to do business sorry I wouldn't do business with these people ever read more

I just moved to Carmichael and the house we bought was in desperate need of some landscaping work. I called up Randy The Stumpman mostly because of his great Yelp reviews, but also because "The Stumpman" is just such a cool name. Randy came out and gave me a killer estimate for all the work. He was back within the week with a crew of three guys who worked really hard the whole day long to make my place look awesome. They took out a few trees, shaped the tall shrubs, and even got up on a cherry picker out front to thin out our tall birch trees. One of the workers (Brant, I think) really went the extra mile. We needed some plants that were growing too close to the house removed and he said it was a shame to get rid of them, so after checking with me, he replanted them himself where some of the trees they had removed had been. I received a free estimate that seemed reasonable to me and went with them based on that and previous Yelp reviews. I was able to schedule a date within 2 weeks of the estimate. The owner, Randy, and I reviewed the job the morning of and it turns out the job was more than what had been estimated. But Randy is the fair and honest businessman and would not take a penny more than what was quoted. I came back 5 hours later and they were gone. Stumpman is "THE BEST". The crew arrived on time, worked really hard, quickly and professionally to cut down and haul away about 100 feet of 30 foot high mature hedges along my property line. These guys did a great job. They originally couldn't get the job done for a few weeks but had a cancellation and came a few days later. Estimator Bruce came earlier that week and was $100 lower than the others. Talked with Randy (owner) on the phone and he was responsive (remember these guys are working so sometimes call backs are later in evening or next day). The crew that came out was very friendly and professional-they made short work of my 50ft cedar and ground out stump in a very timely manner. Cleaned up every spec of sawdust like it never happened. My neighbor and I scheduled the removal of two trees in each of our yards. My cost was $450.00 to remove one tree from the back yard and remove & grind the tree roots in my front yard. The crew showed up 3 HOURS early and was irritated because my neighbor was not home at 8:30 AM. She had taken her child to a day camp. She arrived home by 9:00AM and told the crew her appointment was at 11:30--and no one called her to tell her the crew was arriving three hours early. I was told to clear the side of my house and my patio to allow the crew to drag branches out of my back yard. I was still clearing the walkway when they arrived. One guy started cutting down the tree in my back yard. He cut the branches and filled my entire yard on that side of my house (lawn and plants). A branch hit my window in my family room and I heard a branch hit my patio cover. The branches were in my plants and piled against my outdoor kitchen BBQ island--piled on my water feature under my windows and piled against my sliding glass window. The crew could not have cared less about my yard. The tree stumping grinding in my front yard was so bad I had to work for three days to remove the roots they left untouched. I had two roots that were three inches in diameter left untouched. When they grind, it creates a huge pile---and they did not check to ensure they had completed the job of grinding the roots. My neighbor across the street from me offered to help me remove those huge roots. There was no way I could put sod over those roots without creating a mount in the middle of my lawn. The crew did even worse in my neighbor's yard. Four people worked removing the roots that were not grinded by this crew. The crew did not clean up after they completed the jobs. They had a rake to clean up the area. A rake???? They need a blower, a broom and a dustpan. I had to pick up small branches in my yard--in my lawn, on my sidewalks, on my patio, on my driveway, in the street in front of my house and I had to pull the cut branches out of the plants in my backyard. What a mess!!!! Like they were doing us a favor by just showing up!!! I called Randy to ask him to send a crew back to complete the job. (remove the untouched 3 inch diameter roots). I was exhausted and not strong enough to remove the roots myself. I am 64 years old and I thought my digging, cutting and pulling days were over. Randy immediately started giving me excuses why the roots were still there. He actually said--"We can not grind your entire yard". I tried to tell him the roots were huge and sticking out of my grass. After arguing with him I told him that his company did "SHITTY" work at my house. He accused me of cussing him out and how he did not have to take it from me. I hang up on him. He called me back immediately to really argue with me!!!! I hang up on him AGAIN!!!!! I am very sorry I hired this company. Take my advice---hire someone else!!!! read more

With all the tree service people in the area so busy it was hard to find a tree service that was available. I was able to make an appointment with Stumpman and scheduled service on my birch tree. They did a great job and were very efficient at removing dead branches and shaping my 15 tree. They also remove low hanging branches from another tree at no extra cost and picked up debris from a bush I had ripped out the previous day.
