I called this service for an estimate. Jose, the business owner, came early for the appointment and waited for me outside. I have a Chinese Elm on the backyard, one big branch grows across the fence and goes over the neighbor's roof. Jose took a look of it and gave a fair and reasonable estimate for cutting down this branch (about 9-inch diameter). He is also familiar with the rules and restrictions of our HOA in Gold River. The work crew came on time and finished the job in a couple of hours, and they cleaned up everything. Jose also offered to trim some of the small branches inside the yard. If I could give this company 0 stars I would! We had and estimate this morning and when asked to sign paperwork we confirmed that we were not committing to anything I was told no. I just got a call to schedule an apt and when I said I was waiting to get another estimate the guy got all irritated and said that we signed a contract this morning. I explained how I was on the phone while he was there and I heard the conversation where my wife confirmed that by signing we were not committing to anything. 2 minutes later he called back and said they are just going to withdraw the bid. ***Avoid doing business with Stumpman*** I hired Stumpman to trim a front tree at my mother's home (which had some branches overhanging the roof). My mother is disabled and I have to oversee maintenance on the home. I spoke with Randy (I believe the business owner) and we agreed on a price and appointment time. Our appoint was scheduled for 8 a.m. On the day of the appointment, 8 a.m. goes by and no one shows up. Ok, I understand, traffic and life happens. However 8:15 arrives and still no work crew. I call Randy and he indicates that the crew should be there, they left for the job at 7 a.m. Randy indicates he has a call out to the work crew but can't reach them. Another half hour goes by, now it is 8:45 (45 minutes past the appointment time), and still no work crew. I call Randy again to cancel the appointment and explain I had to drive up from the Bay Area (where I live) to be present for the appointment, I am ticked off at this point. During the cancellation call, Randy states that I don't have to be present for the work to be completed. I explain that, since this is a new work crew I haven't hired before, I won't have them work on my house or land without me being present. At the end of the call, I say goodbye and Randy's response is, "whatever." The BUSINESS OWNER'S response to an unhappy customer, who has called to cancel the appointment because his work crew didn't show up, is "WHATEVER"? Randy, I am not your parent scolding you because you made a mistake. You are a BUSINESS OWNER and I was your customer. Your response to a customer, particularly when you have made a mistake, should never be, "whatever"! In the end, I left to drive back home and finally received a call (2 hours after the scheduled appointment time), stating that the work crew was at the property, ready to trim the tree. The work crew had made a mistake and went to another job first. Too late, my time is more valuable than that. I value a business owner's time and that is why I am always punctual. I expect a business owner to value his customer's time as much as his own. I will not do business with an establishment that does not value their customer's time. read more

We had a large Silver Maple in our front yard that wanted trimming. W got a few quotes, including one from Stumpman, and they were all pretty comparable. Ended up going with Stumpman based on the great reviews by Yelpers - hasn't steered me wrong yet! Randy from Stumpman was easy to communicate with by email and phone. He came out and did a free estimate, and when we were ready to do the work, they came out first thing in the morning, about 7am and started sawing off branches. They did a great job and finished in just a couple hours. Tree hasn't looked so youthful and vibrant in awhile! Only complaint was that 7am is a bit early to be using noisy power tools, even on a weekday. read more

I created a yelp login just so I could write a review for Stumpman. If 6 stars was an option, I would have selected that. I needed to remove an enormous 60' tall, 60' wide Pine tree from my back yard, that had grown out over my neighbor's roof. From start to finish, every step has been great working with these guys. Shaun came out to give me an estimate the same day I called, which was significantly less expensive than any other bids. Since the bid was substantially less than other estimates I received, I was a little skeptical, but decided to go ahead and schedule the work. Jose sent over a contract right away with the agreed upon price, and scheduled dates for the work to be done. The day before the work started, Shaun called to confirm the appointment. The crew showed up early, and they were all very friendly and professional. I was amazed watching them work. These guys are all clearly pros, and they did not damage anything in my yard, or the neighbor's yard. The first day saw most of the branches come down, the second was filled with bringing down the rest of the trunk and grinding the stump. We had Stumpman come to remove two large trees and trim our others. I made a mistake in what we wanted for our quote. They came back out without any complaint. They were able to get us in within a week. Our yard looked way better than it had before they started. Our handyman was doing some work on the house while Stumpman worked. Here's my story, we had a major hard scraping project taking place in our back yard and we needed like 20 trees taken out before the hardscaping was scheduled..... We'll the contractor we had had hired to remove the trees couldn't do it before the hardscaping began. I recently decided to take out 2 tall palm trees and a pine tree from my back yard. The pine and one of the palms were right next to my house and fence so I wanted to be sure I had a pro bringing them down. Got three quotes, the first was outrageous and the second two were about the equal. Randy the owner of Stumpman came out on time, was friendly and told me he could get started on the job the exact day I needed due to a tough work schedule. He told me it would take two days but when it came time he was able to have a couple extra guys show up and took care of it all in one day. Brought down the trees, ground the stumps, disposed of all the wood(except for the pine which I requested to keep), and cleaned up after themselves. Luckily Randy was here to oversee most the work so I was able to get a few other little things such as a small dead tree taken down at no extra cost. His guys were fast, focused, skilled, concerned with not damaging anything on my house and even kept anything from falling in my pool just a few feet away. I'd definitely recommend Stumpman for anyone looking to bring down some difficult palms. Stumpman saved the day. I called and talked to Jose and told him I needed two stumps removed the next day because my landscaper was due out in two days to lay sod. He said he could be out the next morning and he did just that. Jose ground the stumps down 8 to 10 inches and was done in 30 minutes. I was more than satisfied with his work and so glad I called him. The work was very professional, Randy the owner was very customer service oriented. He maid me look good to my neighbors. He cut off a branch that a neighbor was concerned about in her yard and refused to charge her any money. They also, took the tree chips after they went through the grinder and spread them in all of my flower beds for free. I made an appointment for an Estimate to remove mistletoe and prune a large tree in our front yard and to prune a large tree in our backyard. What a great company! Our first experience was back in 2019 when a tree in our yard fell on our roof. Jose came out right away and got a quote done. I very rarely spend time to write reviews. However this company was well worth it. Shaun came out on time then gave a very fair bid to take down a near 60 foot tree in East Sacramento. This tree waved its way in between both the low-voltage and high-voltage powerlines, had a quoit pond in front of it, fruit trees underneath it, and three detached garage is surrounding it. The drop zone was literally 3' x 8' without destroying the sprinklers, drip lines, and foliage. His team showed up, three of them, and did an absolute phenomenal job. (We got 5 initial quotes and decided to move forward with these guys) Shawn had great communication with me about setting our appointment for removal and they took care of city permits required for the work. I would like to give them five stars but because they missed one of my stops and had to come back I could only give them four stars. The work they did was good. They were able to get rid of the stumps that I had to where we can't see them anymore. When they first came out one of the stumps got buried in sawdust. My wife and I discovered it when we were cleaning the dust away. When I called them I was told that they only counted 5 stumps where the estimate they gave me was for 6 stumps. I was there at the time and do not understand why they could not ask me about it. It Dan took them a couple weeks to come out to grind down the last stump. That was not a big deal to me but I do feel that since they were fixing their mistake they should have come out quicker. Then they said they would come out on a Friday morning but call back later that day and said they couldn't make it out and did the job the next day. Again I feel they should have made sure if they came out on that Friday morning because they were fixing their Ok. I need To change my review to three stars. After they came out and ground the stump they missed my wife found that they did not finish one of the stumps that they started. This company is a liability to our community AND it's workers. They illegally remove PROTECTED historic trees and recently one of their workers DIED ON a POWER LINE at a home because of unsafe work practices---and he was hanging there for 5 hours!!!!
