I hadn't had my trees trimmed since they were planted 15 years ago! I called several tree trimming services and after getting 3 quotes I settled on Stumpman. The owner Jose was very responsive and provided a quote while onsite. His pricing was very reasonable and so we decided to go with him. I was given an appointment date of August 10th and was told a crew would arrive between 7:30 and 8:30 am. Jose (not the owner), Victor and Juan arrived at 7:40 and 3 hours later they completed trimming three 20' trees, one 35 footer & two 15' spiraling cypresses. They even cut down one 35' tree and removed the stump and when they were done working on the whole job it was as if they were never here. The team worked quickly and diligently. When Jose arrived, we did a walk through and made sure we were all on the same page. He asked me several times to check to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. I took several videos and was impressed by Victors ability to climb a tree and swing a chainsaw around like it was a child's toy. His 20 years of tree trimming experience shows! Safety is his 1st priority. Double ropes anchored him securely to the 35 footer and without skipping a beat, he had cut the whole thing down in a matter of minutes. It would have taken me weeks! They brought in a tree stump removing machine and now the stump is also gone. The front of my house looks great again as does the backyard. Jose is a rock star and I couldn't be more impressed with his crew that came out. It was pouring down rain and they worked until the job was done. I mean just like that two 40' oak trees were out of my yard and street they cleaned up the best they could but with the rain it was almost impossible. Excellent service. Jose responded to my quote requester faster then others and was the lowest bid. Had a 75 foot cedar that was on its last legs after previous owners poured a cement patio. Biggest problem was that it was also leaning over our house. It was in an awkward corner of the yard next to 3 other backyards. Limited disruption of neighbors aside from noise. They were in and out in less than 5 hours and the mess completely cleaned up. Also left some awesome firewood. read more

This company is a liability to our community AND it's workers. They illegally remove PROTECTED historic trees and recently one of their workers DIED ON a POWER LINE at a home because of unsafe work practices---and he was hanging there for 5 hours!!!! (yes this really happened, in land park). This company is a public nuisance, their workers are rude and aggressive. If you want to be SUED FOR LIABILITY, go ahead, hire these guys. Neighbor's tree fell on our house. Called a few tree service companies to get a quote to remove the falling branches that landed on our roof. Jose from stumpman was the most accommodating one with very reasonable pricing. Because the tree damaged the roof, Jose understood the urgency to get them removed. Even though he was fully booked out a couple weeks, he was able to get his crew to come out the next day and got the branches removed. Highly recommend Jose from stumpman. We had two crews out to trim eight trees and remove two camphor trees on our property. The workers showed up at 8 am and were finished by 1 pm. Jose went over the work with us and the crews before they started. The work was professionally and carefully done, and our yard was cleaned up thoroughly once the job was completed. We were impressed with the skill of the tree climbers and also with the efficiency of the work crews. And the price was very reasonable. Really appreciated all aspects of my experience with Stumpman. The guys got to the work site early, finished the job quickly, swept up all their debris, and even put my yard furniture back the way they'd found it. 12/18/17 We had Stumpman Tree Care remove 3 huge Redwood from our back yard. We got 3 bids and Stumpman was the most reasonable by far. 3 guys showed up at 8:15 am, 15 min. early, and immediately went to work. Later in the late morning the Stumpman owner Jose Lopez (he is very friendly and service oriented) came and had another worker with him to help. They had those trees down and were gone by 2:00 pm after they cleaned up. After the clean up you couldn't tell they had been there. I have drip running all around the area where the trees were. I don't know how they kept from breaking something but nothing got damaged. While the owner was here my next door neighbor hired them to cut down 5 trees he want to eliminate. These guys know what they are doing. I highly recommend Them. read more

Stumpman did a great job trimming back 16 large trees and some large shrubs across our property. There was no sign they had hauled large pieces through our side yards and the cleaned up every bit of scrap. Price was very fair and work was completed in a very professional and organized manner. * Great job, price and service * Randy arrived same day to provide an estimate. Estimate was actually done quickly, which I appreciated. We walked the front and back of the house and covered everything that was needed. We received a few estimates, and theirs was the best price. Once we decided to go with them, I gave them a call to set up a date and time for the service to be done. Please note that we have our trees trimmed every year, and this was the 3rd company we used. We will be sticking with Stumpman going forward. The arrived a week later as we discussed, and they were on time. We had several trees trimmed in the front and back yards: 1 LARGE Mexican Palm 1 medium Mexican Palm 1 flowering Plum tree 1 Japanese Maple, 2 Queen Palms (in our back yard) We were almost a year over due on having these trees trimmed, so they were all in very bad shape (overgrown). They took their time and removed all the dead fronds from the palm trees, and made them look nice and healthy again. The Japanese maple was shaped and thinned out, as well as the Plum tree. Seeing all of the fronds and branches on the grown, I realized it was a lot more work than it seemed, and a lot more stuff they needed to haul away!!! But they cleaned it ALL up and hauled it all away. There was 1 man in the tree doing all the trimming, and 2 or 3 men on the ground cleaning up. Everyone was very nice as well as professional. They asked my opinion on each and every tree to make sure it was to my satisfaction before he came down from the tree. They did the job in less than two hours, and even helped trim down another tree in our front yard for $40 afterwards. I really wish I had the same great experience that most other people have had, but I haven't. I called the gentleman on a Sunday to discuss removal of some trees on my property, and he promised to come out that evening to take a look. Shortly before he was due, he called to cancel due to car troubles (completely understandable). He asked if he could come the next evening at 5:30, and I promised him I would be home in time to meet him. I left work early to be there, but he never showed, and didn't call or text. I called him a couple of days later, and he said "Oh yeah, sorry, I couldn't make it. Please call the office to reschedule." I did so, and left a message. I received an almost immediate call back from a very nice lady (Kat?) who I think is one of the owners. She apologized profusely, was very pleasant, and promised to have their scheduler call me the next morning. He did, and he asked if he could come out Saturday morning at 7:00 am to look at the trees. I told him he could. I got up at 6:30 on Saturday, put on a pot of coffee, and at 6:45 am received a text that he couldn't make it and would have to reschedule it to another day. I found another company. So, three attempts to meet, three cancellations or no-shows. Sounds like other people have had no problems with them, and I'm sure they may be great tree people - but perhaps the hard part is getting them to show up as promised. Had Stumpman out to remove a stump form a tree with a trunk that was 2 1/2 feet in diameter. The called a day before the schedule and verified the appointment. The crew arrived on time and were very professional. They chipped the stump down well below ground and followed the large roots and ground them too. They then did a complete clean up. I called them up and scheduled a time to receive a quote. They showed up on time and everything seemed to be going well. When I said I wanted to go ahead and have them do the job they took several days to call and provide a time. I called back and left a message saying that the time they provided would work and I assumed we were good, but somewhere the message didn't get through and the never put me on the schedule. Excellent workmanship, knowledgeable and careful crew and an unbeatable price! We moved into a house with a huge elm in the front yard. When our friends kept pointing out how we should not park under the tree, we had a few companies come out and give us an estimate for weight reduction and dead limb removal. Although a couple of the companies sent out seemingly knowledgable people, we decided to go with the Stumpman because Randy promised that the lateral trimming will be done by his crew climbing and inspecting every single branch and only take out a diseased limbs or limbs at risk of compromising a larger branch. Also in their favor was their very competitive price (by a large margin). On the day of the removal, Raul, Sean and TJ came with buckets of ropes and tree saw on telescoping tool, but not any large power tools, except a tree grinder. The pruning objective was to minimize large cuts, be selective in pruning so that the tree will be better balanced and healthier in the future. Raul did climb every branch of our 50ft tree. They removed about 1/3 of the branches, large branches roped down and cut and stacked for our use. 7 hours later, the tree has a completely new taller profile, and the yard is left immaculate. We even had an arborist, a friend of a family, come inspect the work, and George who is known for his meticulous tree care was impressed saying "Raul, has trained with a master arborist and his work is the kind of tree work that George himself would do" only it would have taken George over two days. read more

I am giving one star for the crew and to share this experience. In my own recent experience I wish I had researched this vendor more thoroughly before contracting for services. Nothing about phone interaction with "stumpy" leaves me wanting more. If I were to guess, this business is doomed by his lack of phone skills. I've never been in the position of trying to settle an account that was poorly handled from the start and for no good reason was agonizing to resolve. Perhaps homophobia? Our neighbors tree blew over in the wind storm over the weekend and landed on the edge of my house. I called Stumpman 01/08/19 in the AM. Shawn was at my house by 11 AM and quoted the job. Unfortunately the storm had caused a lot of damage and he thought it would be a week or two before he could get a crew out to me. Twenty minutes after he left my house he said he had a crew in the area that had finished up early would I like them to come by. By 2:30 that afternoon there was no sign of the tree. Today, I had Stumpman Tree Care come out to remove a dead maple in my back yard. I voiced my concern over the safety of two telephone wires, bushes, and trees in the back yard, and was assured that no damage would take place. I am absolutely satisfied, due to the fantastic work done by Raul, Shawn, and Walter, the three man crew. They were precise in cutting and felling, ground down the stump deep below the surface of the ground, and cleaned up the back yard, and the areas of travel to and from the chipper. AMAZING!!! I have had Randy do work for us twice now in the past year @ 2 properties and highly reccommend Stumpan Tree Service. The last job was removing two 90'+ redwood trees in very close proximity to a fence, shed and house, deep in my backyard. I am not kidding when I say these had a diamater of nearly 5' around & Randy has video & pictures to prove it. First off they arived earlier than scheduled which is always a plus in my book. I was nervous as he--but Randy and his crew were calm and confident. Watching them meticously drop huge limbs & trunks into a 4' circle between a house and fence takes real skill and experience. They even stayed longer to trim some trees I added that were not included in the original estiamte and they look amazing. The stumpgrind and clean up job was top notch. Had a broken branch from most recent storm. Tree is fine. Cost would be below his minimum but instead of just charging me the minimum for one branch recommended trimming a few others that needed to be cut back to make up the minimum. Owner suggested this and explained everything before hand. This level of integrity is what all businesses should strive for. Requested quotes from a few others that are highly rated in yelp but stumpman was the only one that took the time and effort to actually do it. He also came on a Saturday to do the work which was very much appreciated since i didn't have to take time off of work. Highly recommended.
