Perfect to work from! Literally the cutest and nicest coffee shop around Penn Station I've seen in a while. Seats for working and a very good WiFi to work on. But don't be too loud or stay too long. It's not that huge and it's a chill vibe. They have delicious drinks to order from. I got the Manchinno which is chai, chocolate and espresso. I got it without the espresso. Me and espresso is a scary combo. Do not sleep on the focaccia sandwich. They have an assortment and they all looked so yummy, but I got the "Nonna Maria" with prosciutto and parmigiana reggiana cheese and balsamic glaze. This toasted was everything I needed. We stopped in here with some friends on our way to go stroll the Highline as we needed a good pick-me-up. The inside is fairly small, but there are a good amount of places to sit. They have two tables (one on each side of the door) that are up on a platform, facing the window. These are PERFECT little places to sit and people watch (one of my favorite activities). I ordered the Principessa - a white chocolate, raspberry and vanilla latte. This choice was out of the norm for me, but I'm pleased to say that I enjoyed it! The location of madman espresso could not be more prime - it sits between three popular bagel shops, providing such good quality coffee to serve those looking for a good bite and sip - both the latte and Americano were absolutely delicious. the espresso was rich and deep. doesn't taste burnt at all. - it's a pretty large space with seating for probably 15 people. it was quiet and the drinks were out quickly. - they have pistachio milk and macadamia milk, which I thought was super fun. Outlets are well spaced out given the seating structure. The tables by the front windows are super cute. There is wifi but it's not advertised and you wouldn't know it unless you asked (which is good because there's fast turnaround). Of course, make sure to buy something! Music isn't too loud, good vibes all around. This feels like a hidden gem to get work done. Only thing is the lack of bathroom, which many mentioned. Temp is good but the door needs to keep being closed manually, otherwise it gets drafty. Very clean, fast service. I didn't realize the food is different at each location--this one doesn't have any of the bagel/egg options, but I did get a focaccia sandwich (truffle shuffle) for $9.50. Barista offered to heat it up, but it was not very warm, which I didn't mind. Still yummy. Also got the principessa, which I loved. I Ordered and paid for a decaf Americano, then was told they were out of decaf. HE was frustrated by this apparently. He huffed and puffed as I thought about what else I could get. The space is edgy, bordering on freeform madness and I love it. They have a classic and signature menu. I have to admit I may have ordered the wrong drink as I got a matcha when clearly the name of this shop should have prompted me to order an espresso, but I was on espresso overload trying out a couple of other places earlier. The ambiance is amazing, it's a cute little coffee shop with plenty of seating for a small place. I ordered the princepessa special, it was white chocolate with raspberry, 2% milk, and double espresso. I ordered it lukewarm and it came hot so it wasn't the best when I first tried it but once I started walking in the street, it cooled down and was perfect. Nice level of sweetness, you can clearly taste the raspberry. I should've mixed it around more because the white chocolate syrup was heavy towards the bottom of my drink but it was absolutely delicious. While there was nothing necessarily bad about this place it just did not meet the mark. The menu had many unique sounding specials so maybe those tast better! The matcha was not strong at all and tasted mostly like milk. I did get some extra powder added when I expressed that the matcha felt watered down. While I appreciate the service, the powder did not do much and just made the texture odd. The caramel latte was a little stronger it was just about average and tasted a little too homemade. It's important to have places like this tucked in the nooks and crannies of Midtown Manhattan. A place with enough seating to have your own space, high ceilings to make the small space feel bigger, and a calm atmosphere to take away from the frantic, quite frankly manic, energy of midtown. I love Culture Espresso as much as the next person, but that place can get to be a zoo at prime coffee hours. We came here yesterday, and I was initially shocked as he pulled up with short hair and normally his flow is crraaaaazzyyyyyyyy. After asking him why he cut it and what inspired it, I was like damn should I cut mine too? After gathering my bearings from haircut-gate, I copped my patented hot americano with a cup of ice on the side (vet move) and the big homie got a latte... or maybe it was a cappuccino it's really stripping my mind rn damn... I said "stripping my mind" but obviously meant "slipping my mind" but I'm currently listening to that RHCP song "Strip My Mind" ahahaha my b. I was gonna edit that out but just thought y'all should know that. I've attached a pic of the lattuccino in question. It had that beautiful little flower-like design on it... honestly how do baristas do that? That is pure art. How hard is that? I kinda want someone to teach me that just to see how tough it is so I have a greater appreciation for it. I never get milk based coffee because it upsets my tummy (my immune system is iron though I promise), but when someone does and it has that little art I'm always blown away. Absolutely nothing good to say! Bagel w/cream cheese was inedible but the worst part was the Chai Latte and Pumpkin Spice latte. Just no!

We went to Liberty Bagels to grab bagels in the morning, which was packed and had nowhere to sit, so Madman Espresso was very kind to let us bring our bagels in there. Cozy cafe with a beautiful chalk written menu! The menu is pretty extensive with some amazing gluten free and vegan pastries and awesome drinks. I ordered the large lavender latte with almond milk and it was absolutely wonderful. The notes of lavender were not too overpowering and it was just an awesome latte through and through. I would definitely recommend this cafe for work as it was very quiet and not too busy. Although the cafe is a bit small, they have some very cool seating areas. There are also some very cool hand painted art pieces on the wall which give this place a very chill and unique feeling! The coffee shop is super spacious, so there's plenty of room to work in, the wifi was fast, and it wasn't too crowded, so I felt like I could focus well. Service was friendly and fast, and I could tell that this was a local spot from the number of times the barista greeted people by name. I got a cortado, and it was pretty solid. On the darker side, with a nice nutty undertone. A bit on the milky side; larger than your normal cortado, so that it was bordering on a smaller latte, but I didn't mind. Madman Espresso was beyond my expectations. I've heard about how good the coffee is and I heard correctly. Plus they have huge Quiche that I'm going to try. The employees were super friendly and helpful. Service was quick and I can sit inside with my coffee. The atmosphere is very relaxing. I didn't ask for a restroom. I didn't see one. I like a lot of businesses in this neighborhood. I do have to pass by the undesirable pedestrians on the sidewalks along 8th Avenue when I'm walking to get there. I'm glad I knew where I was headed. I try my best not to bump into anyone. There are a lot of tourists coming here too. I'm sure this Spring I'll be back for the small coffee. It's really a huge cup. Straight from JFK we were on a mission to get a caffeine fix before attempting the ridiculous wait at the nearby Hermès sample sale so I picked this place based on the location and yelp reviews. It's a basic coffee shop in a popular area and I found the espresso in my oatmilk flat white to be just average and nothing I would go out of my way for again. There's a fair amount of seating here and I did appreciate that they had at least one vegan option in their pastry case, but my friend and I opted to grab our drinks to go and unfortunately he liked his cold brew even less than how I felt about my flat white. read more
