The hairdresser was really nice and the shop was cute however she did a terrible job on my hair. I asked for layers and she did not do layers throughout the hair-only on the very top layer of hair. She also thinned my hair on the top layers so now I have short hairs sticking out! It looks terrible! I wish she just told me, she couldn't do it. I gave up on this place. I wanted to come here as it is literally 2 blocks from my place and it has good reviews, but it's more hassle than what is worth. Attempt 1: I walked in on a Saturday - there were two people working chairs. I hang out for 5 min, nobody says even hi. I finally go to one of the people working there, and he flippantly tells me that he is booked for the day. Great, is there anybody else? He doesn't know. Person working the other chair doesn't even look at me. I leave. Attempt 2: I realize I need to make an appointment and not just walk in. Fine, I download this Vagaro app. I like how easy it is to use. Try to book 1 person: she rejects the appointment telling me she already had one - ok, Vagaro had shown available, but OK. Try person #2 - she also rejects it without a reason. Fine, try person #3 - appointment gets confirmed! Finally in business... but then... Attempt #3: I walk to StyleBar for my appointment. Place is closed. I call the phone number on yelp. A nice person picks up but tells me she doesn't know where my stylist is. She will text him. Ok - I am waiting outside in 90 degrees weather... person on the phone cannot get a hold of stylist... I ask her to cancel and I walk back home. Maybe these guys are amazing at cutting hair, I will never find out. First they need to get the business side of things working well. read more

I visited Alex at StyleBar for the first time last week for lash extensions, and the entire experience was above-and-beyond my expectations! When you walk in, the salon/studio is very chic AND still manages to be (thanks to the friendly staff) extremely comfortable, welcoming, and unpretentious. Alex himself is a joy to speak with-- because (good) lashes take a while to apply, an engaging conversation is key. The room where he applies the lashes is tastefully appointed and extremely relaxing, with low lighting and aromatherapy. (It's almost like a mini-spa break while having your lashes applied!) And the lashes themselves? FINALLY what I've been looking for! Because Alex is so particular (in a good way) about the ability to customize and create specific looks for each client, he has an EXTENSIVE collection of (completely custom-ordered) lashes in different widths, lengths, and curl-patterns. In my case, I wanted longer but very NATURAL looking lashes. (I don't wear nor do I want to wear a lot of makeup; I've found in the past that often the individual extensions are so thick that they look strange if you don't have any other makeup on otherwise.) The look he created for me was what I've been trying to get for years, but haven't been able to achieve at other studios because they either did not understand my vision OR did not have the lashes available to achieve it. In contrast, if someone was looking for a very dramatic look, Alex has all of the lashes to achieve that, too! The other HUGE advantage of Alex's service is that the glue he uses cures INSTANTLY. I have a very active lifestyle, and avoiding showers (steam) and sweating for 48 hours (as required by most eyelash glues) is impossible. As a result, my lashes NEVER lasted as long as they should have (since I inevitably had to expose them to steam at some point during the 48 hour curing process). From what I can tell, almost no one else in Charlotte uses this type of instant-cure glue, which (up until I tried StyleBar) I didn't even know existed. I would 110% recommend Alex if you are looking for next-level, completely bespoke lash extensions. BUT you need to book with him ASAP-- he only takes a limited number of clients, due to his high-demand... so get on it, girl! read more

I'm a natural blonde and color my hair red/rose gold/strawberry blonde dependent on the season and Jessica is ALWAYS sure to walk me through the care I need to implement on my hair as well as knowledge of products. They are constantly bringing in new and improved products into the salon and always have an educator there to jump in and help. You can tell that this salon's stylist work together and not against each other, which you can find in a lot of places. I absolutely LOVE StyleBar! I've lived in Charlotte for two years and haven't found a hair salon I'm crazy about. I had a Groupon and figured StyleBar was close to my apartment, I would give it a try. They completely won me over! Connie did an absolutely amazing job on my highlights and haircut. I showed her a couple pictures of what I wanted and she asked some questions about past times I've had highlights and the end product was gorgeous. She was so thorough and really took her time, I felt like she truly cared about the end product and me coming out with a good experience. I enjoyed some of Connies homemade sangria while I was waiting for my hair to process and she was so easy to talk to and was sending me recipes over Facebook by the end of my appointment. I've been here a handful of times now and have had two different stylists. One of which I wasn't really a fan of, but Natalie is incredible!!!!! I want to say she may be the owner and it shows! She has so much talent and experience with hair. I don't do my hair often, maybe every 8 months or so, but she's the only person who ever leaves me loving my hair! She's amazing if you're looking for a balayage look. She likes to do a natural moneypiece and never leaves any streaks/chunks. Highly recommend her in particular! I did not like the ombré/balayage job and the cut that Natalie did on me at all. The color came out very yellow and did not reach the desired color that I showed on the photo. Normally hair stylists apply toner after bleaching to achieve desired color and correct the tone. I was not offered that. As for hair cut, It doesn't look coherent, I just wanted to give a bit of layering to my thick hair so it would fall with beautiful cascades, but now it looks like it was thinned considerably. Also I mentioned how important it was to me not to get rid of any length as my goal was to grow my hair out. I only asked Natalie to take off dead ends and said not more than 0.5 inches and mentioned that I would do keratin just couple weeks after this color job so she should not worry about taking off too much of ends even if they looked bristle to her, because keratin is known for mending spilt ends - every stylist knows that. I was in dismay seeing large pieces of my hair falling on the floor. She took off at least 2 inches. I am disappointed with this job, and even though I bought it on Groupon, and I spent half the price than the salon normally charges (but I always leave the 20% tip from the FULL price which I did this time too), I feel like it was not worth that money, I regret this visit, and now I will have to pay additional at least $120 to fix the job that made my hair look worse. My hair looked much better before this visit. Picture speaks louder than a thousand words, I will let you be the judge of that.
