Wonderful experience! Rachel was my stylist and did an amazing job on my hair. I have passed by this place several times before and decided to go in yesterday. I was always hesitant because I have mixed hair and not everyone knows how to deal with it. Rachel worked wonders!!!! My hair was so smooth and shiny when she was done. Only thing is they only take cash tips. I didn't know that until I rung up and saw the receipt didn't have a line for tip. Luckily I had enough cash in my purse but felt bad because I wonder how many times the stylists get screwed because people don't know ahead of time. Loved the products she used on my hair and got a few. Was pretty shocked when I looked at the receipt, $24 for a bottle of shampoo, and it's maybe 8oz. No offense it wasn't worth THAT much, goodness. It would be nice if they listed the prices. Overall I really liked Rachel and will go back to have her do my hair, I'll just skip the product purchases. read more

This place is a joke! The atmosphere is so uncomfortable and they show rated R movies so I can't even bring my youngest daughter in with me. As I go to checkout with my not-so-great blowout , the owner points to the cash only tips sign and tells me to go to the ATM.. No thanks, they clearly don't have their business together, and my stylist (renae?) looked angry throughout the entire service , as well as all of the other stylist there. I got my hair done here for my bridal shower last Sunday. The stylist that preformed my double shot treatment and blowout seemed like she had never done hair in her life. As she washed my hair, she never talked or asked me any questions, like if the water was okay or if I needed anything. She even dropped a bottle of shampoo or something on me and just laughed never apologizing. She also had to keep going to the front to ask other people how long to keep the treatment in for and how to apply it properly. I understand being new or in training, but if that's the case, someone experienced needs to be assisting. When we got back to her station, she seemed to have the hardest time trying to figure out what she needed to do in order to achieve the look that I wanted. When I told her I wanted a middle part, she laughed as if that was something that no one did. I never got a middle part, or really any part for that matter and my hair turned out nothing like the picture I had selected on the iPad. I ended up redoing my hair myself once I got to my friends and was late to my own bridal shower because of it. I had a lot of hope for this place and wanted to give it a try despite the mixed reviews but I was severely disappointed. It was a waste of $50, maybe it was just my stylist, but at this point I'm reluctant to try again. I was so excited to get my hair done for one of the most important days leading up to my wedding and had I known I would end up doing it myself, I would have saved the time and $50. read more

The service was fine at the location, and my stylist did a good job on my hair (though perhaps used a bit too much hairspray for just a round brush blow out). I give them room for improvement in the area of payment/tipping. When I paid for my blow out, I asked if I could leave a tip for my stylist on the credit card. They pointed to the sign "cash only tips" and told me that they had an ATM in the back of the salon. Okay, so I have no cash on me so I decided to go to the ATM and pay the ATM fee to withdraw money. After I withdraw my cash, I go back up to the front desk and ask the lady to make change. She has NO CHANGE in her drawer, not even for a $20, at this place of business! So I stand their awkwardly, not sure what to do. The hostess asks another stylist if she has change for a $20, so I wait as she goes to search her purse but she can't come up with the money either. They go round and round and eventually tell me, no one has change. This is ridiculous. Here I am, wanting to tip my stylist and it's taken almost 10 minutes and me withdrawing money from an ATM only to realize that I can't tip my stylist. Fortunately, my stylist was very gracious about it and told me not to worry about it or just to tip next time. I felt really awful because he did deserve a tip, but I was unable to provide him one. read more

I came here a few months ago for a blow out and hadn't written a review about my bad experience just because I felt it was unnecessary until I had experienced a REAL blow out/dry salon. I came here before a date to get my hair blown out, the parking is horrible, I was greeted within 10 minutes by my stylist who starts to wash my hair and complaining that all day she's only been getting the clients with the longest and curliest hair. I do have long and curly hair.....gee thanks. I tell her not to worry because my hair is easy to blow out it straightens nicely, I have no problem doing it myself in 45 min or less. She takes me to the chair and starts blowing out my hair very clumsily, she again starts complaining that this just isn't her thing to the stylist next to her and how shed rather be throwing some Hilites in my hair than blowing it out. About 15 minutes into the blow out she says "im not gonna lie, I'm having a really hard time, I'm gonna get some help" I'm trying to be nice and understanding, it was her first week but I obviously have someone who hates doing my hair. Another stylist came over and tried to explain some techniques and demonstrated very nicely on my hair and my stylist was looking in the other direction. My stylist ended up spawning me off to someone else who wasn't able to do a good job because my stylist didn't shampoo my hair well and I had product buildup on my ends. The manager I'm guessing told the stylist to tell me to come back and they'd give me a free conditioning treatment. A treatment? How about a free blow out seeing as I never got the one I payed for? Great first-time experience! This place reminds me of European hair salons where blowouts are inexpensive and efficient. Angie did a great job on my fine hair and the curls lasted through the night. I have been going to The Do Bar and Blow dry Bar for blowouts and styling on a regular basis for a few years now and was excited to have another option for blowouts since I have a bad habit of waiting to the last minute and they are often full but unfortunately this is not an option. I decided to try this place before a holiday dinner with my family and it was a disaster. There was no one at the reception desk when I arrived, the salon was busy and no one greeted me when I walked in for about five minutes. When my stylist greeted me she took me straight back to the shampoo area without first consulting me on what I wanted which I thought was strange, she then asked me to tell her what I wanted while shampooing my hair which was really awkward. She did not comb through my hair and everything was extremely knotted. Long story short I asked for a blow out with a round brush and slight curl at the end and some volume at the roots and I walked out looking like a pageant queen/dolly Parton with about half a can of hairspray, the teasing she did to attempt to get some volume seriously went about half way down my hair. I have very easy hair to deal with, it dries straight even without blow drying it and does not frizz even in Houston humidity so I don't think it should be to difficult for a professional and this experience was terrible and my hair looked awful. I will not be back. Overall I just felt like everyone there was unprofessional and the atmosphere was chaotic. read more

I was going in to have my hair done for my engagement photo session. So this was an important style to get right. I asked for volume and big curls. She barely used any product, would forget to spray hairspray half the time. Lets just say that when I was done it looked nice, but by the time i made it home it was a flat, crunchy mess. I Love This Place! After two bad experiences at blow dry salons in Houston, I vowed never to go back to another blow dry bar/salon again... long story short... after a shoulder injury and a black-tie event on the calendar...I was desperate... I knew I couldn't style my hair myself for this event and a pulled back pony tail was not going to cut it. I walked in to the Stylingbar after visiting Sephora and made an appointment for the next day. They were very friendly and worked me in for the following afternoon with Danielle. I can't say enough good things about this place. The experience here has changed my mind on blow dry bars/salons and I will be a regular customer at the Stylingbar with or without a shoulder injury. I loved the way Danielle blew my hair dry and then curled it. It was a bit tight when I left, which I asked her to do because I knew with the Houston humidity it would fall in an hour. It fell the perfect amount before my event but held the wave for the rest of the evening. I loved it and had so many compliments. Danielle was so sweet and really listened to the way I wanted my bangs to lay. She understood the final look I was going for and we both agreed that doing the curls a bit tighter would give me the look I wanted later in the evening. I'm so happy to have found the Stylingbar and all because of a shoulder injury ;) I can't wait to go back. read more

This was my 3rd time because third times a charm right? They need to work on their shampooing technique. Even after two washes it was never really scrubbed and I left feeling like my hair was still dirty. Also, I've been there 3 times and have only been asked once if I wanted something to drink. When I asked for water I got a shot glass of water. I understand not wasting but I'm sure this is tap water and can't cost much to give a real glass of water out could it? Worst.expeience.ever. First, they up-sold me a hydrating mask that 'I really needed'. Fine whatever give me the mask. Once I sat down in the chair, things just got increasingly worse. I think my 'stylist's' name was Christine - avoid her. I thought I was coming to the place to get a blow dry as in you need to use the round brush the whole time - don't just hold the blow dryer to my head until it's almost completely dry and then bring out the round brush. I have fine, long, color-treated hair and blow drying it without using a round brush will make it a poofy, frizzy, disaster..which is what happened. My stylist kept stopping the blow dryer to talk to other employees about her other appointments that day rather than focusing on my hair. Give me a break, if all I had to do to my hair was flip it over and dry it, I would have done it myself. I know that there are women that are blessed with that kind of hair, but I'm definitely not. However, I always get compliments on how pretty my hair is and it's because I use a round brush to blow dry it before it can get frizzy. Pretty hair takes work! Isn't that what I was paying them for? So while she was making my hair a complete mess she decided to put the blame on me, telling me how damaged my hair is, criticizing my hair dresser's color technique, turning up her nose at the type of shampoo I used etc. Talk about adding insult to injury! Then she said because she felt so bad for my hair she would give me a complimentary mask to take home, which when I read the ingredients had 'paraben' listed in every other ingredient. No thanks, I'll take the dry hair over your cancer-causing ingredients. It's funny because I went to my hair dresser the very next week, had a legitimate blow dry, and left with my hair looking amazing as always. So my advice is, if you are not blessed with the type of hair that can be dryed naturally or without a round brush, save your money! read more

I've had three bad experiences. First: went in and no other customers were there. The female owner asked if I had an appointment, which I did not, and response was "Well, I think we might be able to get you in." When her hair technician wasn't doing my hair correctly (I only asked for a bit more volume, which she was trying to do) the owner came over, grabbed the brush and dryer out of her hand, and roughly finished my hair. Second, went in, with appointment, stated I had a Groupon, and they said there was an online form that should have been filled out first. Again, nobody else in the place. I asked if they could help me anyway, and they did. Third (and absolute last time EVER): I went in on Saturday. The male owner said that, while they were a little busy, they could get my hair washed and I'd have to wait a short while for a blow dry, which was fine with both of us. As he was signing me into their appointment book, he asked for my email, which I politely declined to give. He insisted on it, and I again politely declined. He told me they would not spam me, but wanted it for feedback, to which I again politely declined. He then informed me that the would not be able to get me in. I was stunned, and will never return. Too bad I can only give them one star. They deserve none. read more

This place is so great I had to write a review. I have incredibly thick, long wavy hair. It is not easy to straighten for even the most seasoned stylist. However, Saul can not only get my hair straight, he can also make it look completely natural. The best part is it lasts for DAYS! From my first visit with him, he recognized my hair's characteristics and is always aware of how it would react to certain styles. I've been coming to this salon for more than a year and Saul gives my hair the same attention he gave it on my first visit. He always does a fantastic job. He gives me tips to manage my hair at home. The worst run beauty shop in town. if you have to be at a special event on time, don't go here. Not only do they run astonishingly late, but the front desk is astonishingly rude. The management is French and they left their manners in France. You must give them a credit card to make an appointment, and if you need to cancel (even the day before) they will NOT let you cancel over the phone. The truth is this salon used to be an overpriced experience and now it has changed the name with the same owners and is just a poor replica of dry bars now growing thought Houston. I myself am a frequent client for hair blow outs, but this salon is definitely not up to par with basic standards. I would never recommend this place to a friend let alone a reputable survey site like yelp. My hair was frizzy, looked like I surely did not pay 65$ to get it that way for a wedding party; luckily but unfortunately I had to go to another salon to pay to get it fixed. Not good. read more

3.5 stars!! I used my groupon to get in the door. The hair mask (flirtini) left my hair totally soft and conditioned. I'll come back for the flirtini. I asked for a haircut. Which was additional. Normally a cut and blow out is $80, which is a bit higher than what I pay but I didn't ask for a price before I asked for the cut, so that was my fault. Breene (like the color Green) did an outstanding job on my cut, she did EXACTLY what I asked for and even matched my hair to the picture that I showed her. I'll pay $80 again. Breene used a styling pomade on my hair which I liked the way it styled my hair and kept it in place, so I bought it for $27. Overall, I was very pleased. I'll return (on payday week). If I could change one thing, it would be the prices....I'd be a bit more competitive. That's all. read more

I canceled my membership and will never go back. It's too bad, really. I had eight or so good blowouts the first month. Sometimes the stylists were late and I was never offered a drink until the last five minutes. But the blowouts were good and the stylists were friendly. Unfortunately last week I had a terrible experience. The stylist shampooed my extensions carelessly and created a huge matted knot. Accidents happen, I know. My dismay rose when she didn't know what to do to untangle my hair. I knew it was time to leave when they suggested cutting it out. I went home and worked on it for three hours--successfully! The owner called, said he would investigate and would call back. It's now a week and a half later--no call. I left a message asking for a refund. No call, no refund. Am now disputing the matter with the credit card company. I understand that sometimes things go wrong. Mistakes are made. But this was handled terribly and unprofessionally. read more

I was slow to start using all their services - started with blowouts / styles with Angie and always walked out pleased. Then started going to Reece (also great with blowouts / styles) for color. Reece is a color master and understands hair - would never go anywhere else. Just had Claudie cut my hair and she did a fabulous job. These guys "get" hair. My appointment was at 9am. I arrived at 9am only to find that I was the only person there with the exception of the cleaning staff. The styling bar staff finally strolled in at 9:10/9:15. I then was directed to my stylist and asked how I'd like my hair done. I replied that I would like my hair straight and slightly curled under. Not sure which part of that was confusing but my stylist curled my hair OUT and kept telling me that it was fine- that she would brush it out at the end. Well, I know you be shocked when- wait for it.....my hair stayed curled OUT even after it was 'brushed'. I was a Shirley Temple look alike with all the curls. Thank goodness I had a gift certificate because I have had so much better at other blow dry bars. read more

I LOVE this place, and all the amazing stylists there! I took my cousins and aunt to get our hair done for my engagement party, and we looked gorgeous all night long. Every single one of our stylists listened to exactly what we wanted, and created it to perfection! My hair does not hold curls every, but they made sure the curls they put in my hair did. Was excited that I could get an appointment quickly for me and my best friend, but very disappointed once we arrived at Stylingbar. I have medium length, thick hair. When being shampooed, not only did the girl not really wash my hair, she barely got it wet, and then didn't really wash my hair, just kind of massaged it (and not even all of it) for a few minutes, then started rinsing it out. There was no water pressure and she had to keep stopping and letting the water drain out. The sink was not working properly. I told her with no pressure she would never get the soap out, she said she would, but I assure you, she didn't. It didn't feel like my hair was even washed. The stylist asked if I wanted a mask on my hair, I said sure. Big mistake. I felt like my hair was greasy on top and underneath when I left. I'm sure it was a combo of shampoo remnants and conditioner that they couldn't rinse out because of no water pressure. I will say that the girl who washed my friend's hair, did a 100% better job. She washed Sophia's hair really good. My stylist did an ok job on my hair. I felt like I was back in the 80's with big hair, but with humidity outside, my hair fell the minute I walked out of the salon and was somewhat greasy feeling (as I mentioned above), so I just ended up pulling up into a pony tail. A real waste of $50 plus gratuity. Sophia's stylist did a good job on her hair, he took his time and used a curling iron to make cute curls. She was the lucky one for the evening. I have definitely had my hair washed and styled better at other salons. I was telling Sophia about my disappointment loud enough for her stylist to hear, but he didn't really offer any resolution. Bottom line, I walked in with a pony tail, and left with a pony tail. read more

I have been getting a blow out here nearly every Sunday for the past couple of years. Today I am looking for a new blow dry bar. I made my appointment on line as usual based on MY schedule!! I am the customer, right??? A little while later I get a call asking me if I can come in 15 minutes early. NO, I cannot, the appointment was based on MY schedule. I told the caller that NO I could not come in early, silence.......I then said, do you want me to cancel? Their reply....YES. I suspect that they didn't have many appointments scheduled today and someone wanted to go home early, is this really the way you want to treat a long standing customer or any customer? I totally understood when my appointment was cancelled because they had no electricity, I understood when someone didn't show up for work and they were overbooked, but not this time. I love that they are open on Sunday, but they are not the only place in town that is open on Sunday. read more
