Ah-maz-ing service. I would never have known about this place if it hadn't been for a Groupon. I decided to try it and get my hair done for my baby shower. The woman who did my hair (I can't remember her name but she is from Spain) was awesome. She took her time, and really made my hair look as good as it has ever looked. The best part is, It's hours later and it still looks great. They didn't try to sell me anything, they didn't try to upsell me and it was seriously a very pleasant experience. I needed my hair done for a wedding and found Stylingbar through a Google search of the area. It was less than 3 miles from my hotel and had lots of great reviews so I figured I'd give a try. Plus they were priced lower than Drybar and that's always a bonus for me! They were able to fit me in for appointment that afternoon. And it couldn't have worked out more perfectly because after I got back to my hotel, it started to rain like crazy! My stylist (Alyssa?) was wonderful. Super sweet and got me the big, smooth Texas blowout I was looking for. The actual salon is super cute. They serve wine and champagne (yes, please). In the process, hit my head on the sink, scratched my forehead with her nail, denied doing it, then laughed about it and told me, the mark will go away soon (still here 3 hours later), and got my shirt wet. No apologies. Fast forward to the styling. Scratched me again, pulled my hair, dropped mousse over my shirt and said "Haha this mousse always likes to fly everywhere", and finally, poked my eye. The young and dumb front desk receptionist wouldn't look me in the eye and to answer my question if Hanna was available early. I had my hair brightened here, and let me tell you, you are better off going to a full service salon. The prices sound great until you realize they are charging you extra for each thing. The blowout post color isn't even complimentary. Fine, but then, don't yell at the colorist in front of the client for not booking her blowout in advance. How was I supposed to know I needed to book everything separately? I made the appointment to return 6 weeks later and asked to have a reminder a day before (which most high end salons do). They agreed to do this. Fast forward to today, five minutes ago (6 weeks later). I get a phone call from them telling me I have an appointment NOW! I got the Groupon ... wanting to give a fair try but I did not enjoy the experience. First of all I was early... which I was fine waiting and they let this other stylist do my hair. Well he was sooooo nice to the lady before me but once he asked if I had a Groupon ... his customer service went out the door. The way he was talking to the other stylists and talking loudly about "Molly" (the drug) was not professional. He kept yanking my hair and was very rough with it. His name was Saul. He also didn't try to have any small talk or give me any pointers on my hair like most stylists do. While he was doing my hair he asked the receptionist when his lunch break was because he was doing me a favor by missing his so I wouldn't have to wait long. Well no one put a gun to your head and made you take the appointment. Forget about the customer service. He curled my hair and the curls fell the minute I walked out the door. Fail. I could of done my own hair better than that. That's what these place don't realize. If we wanted an average hair style ... we could do it ourself. We come there for something new and better. In my opinion, they do the best blow-dry in Houston. I have been to nearly every styling salon in this city. I have been a regular at the Stylingbar for months. I keep coming back for many reasons. First, the customer service is excellent i.e always greeted promptly and by my name and offered beverages and anything else to make me comfortable. Second, my stylist, Saul has meant all the difference in my hair. He pays attention to what I am asking for and recommends products to make my hair beautiful. Every time I leave the salon, people stop me and say, "Where do you get your hair done and who does it." Since the DryBar in Upton Park was all booked up I thought I would try this place. When you first walk in its very cute, very similar to DryBar, but not as clean or kept up. After getting my hair washed they offered me a drink. Since it was 9 am I asked for a mimosa, all they had was champagne, no biggie, still good. The overall process was great, I enjoyed my champagne out of a plastic glass while watching chick flicks. However, the end result was questionable. Very Shirley Temple. But crazy. She insisted it would fall after a few hours. It really didn't. It just continuously looked worse throughout the day. I ended up just going home and recurling it myself. Total bummer and waste of $50 ($40 but I tipped because she was nice). At the end of the day lesson learned, stick with the professionals at DryBar! read more

He asked me questions about what kind of blow out I wanted - and even showed me some pictures on pinterest since I was having a hard time describing what I wanted. We started and finished on time. I wish this was my go to hair place. I got a blowout and Cosmo curls a week ago and I should have saved my 45 bucks! My "curls" were terrible. They didn't use a curling iron, and I did have volume until they put this oil to make my hair shiny. If anything I left with somewhat volume and bad curls that eventually went flat in two hours. I called in last Friday for a last minute appointment for an event I was going to. The stylist I had was probably a bit junior in her position but super super sweet. Before my hair was complete the owner came over and finished it up and I could not have been happier with the way it looked, she even pinned it back and instructed me to let it down right before the event so I would have max volume which is what I was wanting. My sister and I wanted to get our hair done for our brother's graduation, but were worried about scheduling same-time appts. with such little notice. I had gone to Stylingbar twice before, and their online appt. scheduling system was so easy and fast I decided to give it a try. It was probably about 9am when I logged on, searched for 2 appts. at noon, and voila! We were in! The system also sends you text message confirmations. I was very pleasantly surprised to see they had finished renovating. I love the new look of the salon! Very chic, all white, and still the same great service. We were greeted and shampooed immediately. Our stylists sat us right next to each other at the bar in front of the huge flat screen. They asked us if we wanted anything to drink and if we had a movie preference. We chose Bridesmaids and were laughing the entire time they did our hair. So fun! No matter how many Youtube videos I watch on blowouts, it always ends up flat and frizzy when I try to do it. Stylingbar always makes my hair sleek, shiny, and bouncy. I always look 10x better in photos when I go to Stylingbar, and my hair looks great for 2 days. Only cons is it is a bit pricy, but worth it for special occasions. Also, it took them literally an extra hour after I was done to finish my sister's hair and they charged her extra. Her hair is much longer and thicker than mine though, and the website says there is an extra fee for certain hair types. So, she wasn't as thrilled about the appt. as I was, but we both still had a good time and fabulous hair. read more

My first experience with Styling Bar was great! I decided at the last minute that I wanted to get a blowout for a party the same day, and Styling Bar's easy online appointment booking system allowed me to book the appointment seamlessly. Just as promised - the blowout was a 45 minute service for $40. I thought about adding on the 10 minute scalp massage but I was in a time crunch and passed it up this time. However, the standard service also included a pretty amazing scalp massage. My blowout held up to the humidity and lasted well over 6 hours that included an outdoor party. I noticed a sign by the register that they only accept cash tips, but they do conveniently have an ATM in the salon so to can get cash if you forget to bring it. read more

I have really long hair and was happy to find a place who did not increase the price because of that. Saul had straightened my hair once before so I was happy when I got him a second time. He is sweet, personable, and was extremely apologetic when he was running a bit behind. I had a bday party and they took such good care of me! Claudette is a gem. She's sweet with a unique style and her experience definitely shows. They decided to give me a really cool 60s up do, and Claudette even offered her smock when she thought I would have difficulty changing my crew neck sweater at home. Very very disappointing experience. I went here to get my hair blow dried and curled for a party that I was going to. This was on a Saturday and I expected them to be busy. My appointment was set for 4 pm. When I walked in I waited around for 5-6 minutes before anyone even acknowledged that I was there. Once I finally got to talk to someone they put me in a waiting chair right in the middle of the salon. I felt extremely out of place. My hair was awfully done and the lady doing my hair kept making it a point to tell me that I was her last patient of the day. I paid the same amount as the first patient and I felt that I should have been treated with the same respect. I went up to pay embarrassed of the way people were staring at my hair. Even the man up front must've noticed because he said it was a very "different" style! I went home and showered the products and the ugly style away and did my hair all over again for that night. I went to the Styling Bar for the first time this past weekend. I had a wedding in Dallas that evening, and didn't want to take the time to deal with my hair once getting there. I arrived for my scheduled appointment, was greeted by friendly staff, but was surprised when I was introduced to my stylist (who's name I could not understand due to a heavy accent) who was not the stylist I made my appointment with online. Given that it was my first visit and I had no preference of stylist anyway, I didn't really mind, just thought I'd share in case this may happen to other customers in the future. I explained to my stylist the style of hair I was going for and she proceeded to take me to the bowl for my wash. I noticed a lot of people coming up to her and whispering, and this is when she told me she was nervous because she had only been working there for 2 days. I said it was no big deal, told her I hoped she was being treated well, and asked how long she had been doing hair before working there. This is when she told me again, 2 DAYS. UH OH. I panicked for a second thinking my hair was going to look awful, and started telling myself every good hair stylist has to start SOMEWHERE while trying not to visibly sweat. Right about this time someone came around and asked if I wanted anything to drink. Champagne to the rescue. Long story short, my hair turned out AMAZING. Better than I could have asked for, held all night for the wedding, and even looked good the following day. I told her I wanted large, loose curls with lots of volume, and she did just that. This stylist has a lot to offer and is definitely qualified. I hope that the Styling Bar treats her well because she really was amazing! I'm giving 4/5 stars not because the service was not adequate, but for the Styling Bar itself. If I had specifically asked for the person I made my appointment with, I would have been disappointed to show up and not have that stylist. Other employees didn't seem very warm to my stylist, which I didn't like, and they also made us switch stations mid style, which made me think they could just push her around. On another note, Saul, the manager (?) did introduce himself and he did express support for my stylist's abilities. As a single dad I like to take my 3 girls to the Stylingbar for several reasons. Ease of getting an appointment. My girls look great when they are finished. The price is reasonable. The staff treats us great. Overall it is a nice experience. The low reviews basically are due to perceived high prices. You know what you are getting into when you sit in the chair. Hm, I have only been here once but I had a totally satisfying and pleasant experience - I am surprised to see how many poor reviews there are! I went on Christmas eve for a blowout and my stylist was Heather, who was lovely. I decided while she was doing my hair that I wanted some curls, and she changed the order to include that with no drama at all, and otherwise did a lovely job on my hair that lasted several days. The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars is because the receptionist totally ignored me when I arrived. As in, she did not even look up from what she was doing to acknowledge my presence. I waited maybe two minutes standing right at the counter and looking directly at her, before one of the stylists stopped working on their client to come over and find out when my appt was. Seriously, management, fire this incompetent woman who makes your whole business look bad! What a terrible first impression.
