I always have a wonderful experience here, yes is a small business with a small amount of employees but they are amazing, the cashier is always happy and friendly. As I was ordering an after I had placed my order for over $20 worth of pastries and flan items I had noticed a party of about 20 people that were hanging out in the lobby that were obviously upset about something. After I had paid for my order and was about to leave I thought I was going to buy something else and as I was looking at those items a lady that was in that party had told me that they had found mold in their cake from their child's quinceanero. Anyway I didn't really care at that point figured I would take my items home but when I got my items home I'm going to be honest it was the most disgusting trash I've ever eaten in my life. This little deli/bakery stands alone in quality, service & value. Im a native San Diegan so Mexican food I know. Sure, spending many weekends across the border helps too. But North county coastal has been tricky to get great mexican bakery items. . . Until now. This place has it down. I couldn't believe the hours they are open too. 5am- 9:00 pm every day. My fave bakery item is what I call " butterfly cookies". As they look like it but turns out it's call "ears" in Spanish. Difficult to get right this place has no problem with it. Awesome panaderia in San Marcos! It's so close to CSUSM and Palomar that it's the perfect place for a pick me up, whether it's for a quick breakfast bite or for that 3pm lift. The pan dulces are delish, and they have a great selection of both savory and sweet pastries and eats. I've had the breakfast burritos, the tortas (really yum), and their sweet breads. Never disappointed, and the price can't be beat. Plus the music is on point to get your head out of work or anything else. I came here to get cakes for a work event. I called the day before to order the cakes and the lady told me the 6 in. round cakes were $15 each, so $45 for 3 cakes. I ordered chocolate mousse, tres leches, and tiramisu. She told me the tiramisu would cost extra, so $65. So I thought okay it's $20 more for the Tiramisu, which makes it a $35 dollar cake. Okay, that's fine. I come to pick up the cakes and she says the tiramisu cake is $65 alone! You should have seen how small the cakes were!!! Not worth $65 that is CRAZY. I don't like confrontation and I needed to bring cakes back for work so I just paid for it but I really feel like they swindled me and took advantage. The cakes were good, my coworkers all enjoyed them. But I probably needed 4 cakes for the number of people we had which was around 25. Oscar and his team are the best! They provided 200 small pastries for our wedding reception; dulce de leche cupcakes, cheese & raspberry tarts, apple empanadas, & chocolate croissants. They were all beautifully done and very tasty. Oscar was VERY accommodating and especially helpful when we placed our order. His suggestions were spot on. The day of our event, he called to coordinate pickup of the pastries. He was so kind and brought the entire order to their Poway store for us to pickup. I'm a regular at this bakery/ Mexican restaurant, overall Ive never been disappointed. I usually always love coming in for their oatmeal drink, which it always had this thick consistency and not over sweetened. The customer service is very attentive and even though sometimes they might forget to give you and item they will always make the best of your visit. They are constantly busy, especially during morning hours, people come in for their fresh pastries and bread. But I always come in for their food, and they always change something on my plate when I ask for a substitution. This last time since I got my braces, I order one of their plates that came with bread or tortilla but since I couldn't eat either they discounted the plate I ordered which I believe was huevos en salsa verde. I think my favorite part of this plate was the texture of the rice! So tender! (This is honestly a huge plus when I visit Mexican eateries) when they know how to properly cook the rice most of the time their food Is very good as well. Most Mexican places the rice is so dry or it looks more like pudding than actual rice. And other times I've ordered their tortas and the bread is so soft (makes sense since it's a bakery) they have agua Frescas and fresh orange juices which I always get either or when I visit this place. This place is great! They don't just sell baked goods and pastries they also sell Mexican foods. The small tacos were only $1.5 each and were really good. Tried their pastries as well and they were also pretty good (not to sweet) and delicious. These tortas used to be good. They changed the bread to something that doesn't taste like the real telera and you have too look for the milanesa. Order a cake for my daughter's 5th bday party. I looked everywhere to see who could make this specific princess cake. I found Su Pan here in san Marcos. Send them a few emails never got a reply back from emails. I decide to drive to bakery.Once I was told by the bakery workers that they could make me the princess cake . Ofcourse I order it. I make sure they receive the picture design of cake 3 times by calling and visiting I was confirm by workers they DID receive the picture design. So the date came by for pick up of the cake . The cake was nothing from current design I have specifically asked for and PAY .Workers were telling me they never received actually picture design when they have already confirm with me 3 times they did. Workers never even left a voice message to notify me that the picture design was never received. Being Pregnant with everything going on right now I was disappointed, upset and super stress out . I drove far away expecting the cake i was told it could happen. I didn't mind paying the price for this special occasion for my daughter aslong as they could make me what I was confirm they could. On top of that I had to provided and bought the doll myself in order for them to make this specific cake . I didn't mind paying at all aslong as I was getting for what I was paying for. They assured they would provide me with the cake the way I asked for . At the time of pick up owners didn't make an effort to even fixed the problem. Instead they told me they charge me cheap. Owners would refund me 10 bucks from what I pay. They never did.. they just clean their hands .I was told I was given a cheap price. If I would have known I would experience this stressfull situation while pregnant I would have gone somewhere else. I have always love their taste of their cakes but with this whole experience I would recommend anyone whomever orders a cake to just got with what they offer because if your going to order an specific design it ain't going to happen at least in my experience and you would be over charge for cake too. We really wanted to like this place but... NOT Gonna Happen. We normally paronize Cardenas' Bakery but decided to try Su Pan. My wife and I entered and a young lady was adding more pastries to the shelf. She looked at us but didn't smile or say anything. We made our selections and paid, however.. no "Thank You" or Gracias. Perhaps it was because aren't Hispanic ? Our shadow will never again shade their entry. Besides... their prices are pretty steep compared to Cardenas. Adios Su Pan... Hola Cardenas !!! read more
