Sandia loca! Aka watermelon, pineapple and a whole bunch of other fun stuffs
    Timothy H.

This is a great little mexican dessert joint hidden away in a strip mall with PHENOMENAL customer service. The menu is almost entirely written in spanish, but don't worry if you've forgotten all your spanish from high school - the family that runs the shop will help translate and explain everything. They do popsicles (both water and milk based), ice creams, and a whole bunch of other adventurous things like tostilocos (what is that you ask? it's an explosion of fruit, mexican candy, chamoy, chips, peanuts and other fun stuff). Everything I've had there has been excellent and CHEAP! Shout out to Maribel for the excellent service, and the other workers there. The first time we went, one of the gents and one of the ladies were there and didnt speak a whole lot of English, but a smile, charades, patience and google translate goes a long way. they helped explain what a tostilocos was, helped customize it for us since we were iffy on some of the things like the pork stuff and to top it all off, while we were eating our delicious new concoction they noticed the spice was getting to us and gave us some horchata on the house! and it was some of the best horchata ive ever had! 5 stars all around! and did i mention everything is home made?? hope this place succeeds! (and they accept credit card!)

When I am on the other side of my town shopping this is the place to stop for a treat. Its hidden in a little commercial shopping center so look hard on your left before you drive right past. Its called La Isla on the front of the shop. Its small and empty with an awesome mural when I walked in. They offer the basics of any palanteria but they make it on the spot fresh, and there are items here that are not offered at the other places closer to my house. Yesterday I wanted to try something new so I ordered the tornado, its jicama, pineapple and mango with tamarind and sprite poured over it. Refreshing, light, healthy and delicious. They also offer fresh corn cups with warm off the cob corn, mayo, cheese and melts in your mouth good. I will return when on this side of town, I am most definently a fan!

I've tried several places and one thing that has made me come back first is a very clean place and THE HAM TORTAS THE BEST IN TOWN. Great customer service always so friendly many more delicious goods.

This is a pretty solid place for getting those Mexican antojitos cravings and ice creams. They are getting a whole lot more common with places popping up all over north county. It's located in a not so popular shopping place off rancho Santa Fe rd. I decided to come in and check it out. It's clean, bright and the paintings on the walls were nice. The lady's working there (2) were really nice and helpful, even letting me sample the aguas they had available. I got my daughter a scoop Of her favorite cotton candy ice cream for $1 and for myself an horchata for a dollar and some change. My daughter loved her ice cream and no complaints with my horchata. My cousin also ordered some tostilocos only with watermelon instead of what it usually comes with, and they made it with no problems. I think the place is still kinda new so they just need some more time to get into the flow of things. I didn't like that there wasn't prices listed anywhere for anything that they have on the menu, that probably doesn't matter to most people but for me it does. Also when we were eating we started to smell something nasty, I couldn't tell if it was coming from inside or outside. Other than that it was a good experience and I'll be back.

    Smallest cup $1.69

This place is surprisingly good! I wanted a drink that's fruity but not too sweet on this hot hot day and they have it. The lemon and cucumber juice water is refreshing, not loaded with sugar and it's great! This big cup is only $1.69!

Fruit salad, very large portion and yummy!!!

Came here to get ice cream for my girls, decided to try the fruit salad as a healthy alternative. Very large portion, tasted great! Definitely coming back!

    La Escamocha fruit salad..yum!

First visit here. Not disappointed. Delicious fruit salad (La Escamocha) at a great price. Can't wait to try everything else on their menu.

Because when I want the really good stuff, I make it myself in my Lello 4080 Musso Lussino Ice Cream Maker. Yeah, the ice cream that maxhine produces is positively divine. But when I want the good stuff without all the prep & cleanup, Wynston's is where I'm going. The quality is top notch & the creatve flavors they come up with are amazing. Service is always friendly. My favorite way to enjoy Wynston's is the ice cream flight with 4 small scoops of different flavors. While parking right in front of the place is often taken, there's a free garage nearby they validate for. So, if you love you some ice cream, head on over to Wynston's. You can take it from someone who makes their own frozen sweet creamy confections, Wynston's is the really good stuff.

And while Handel's has kind of climbed to the top of the heap in our eyes, Menchie's is a close second. Like any typical frozen yogurt spot, Menchie's is a buffet style place, where you get your own cup and go through the line of toppings to spoon onto your base as much as you'd like. With lines full of sloppy children and parents who are too tired to care what they do, the countertops can get kind of messy. When you couple this with machines that squirt out your Cheesecake Flavored FroYo through dripping spigots used over and over for get-it-yourself-samples by people who don't want to buy their own bowls, but still want to eat a ton of dessert, you end up have a shop that needs constant cleaning. But, often when we come here, there's only one person actually working. Meaning that the cleaning takes a back seat to tending the register for the throngs of customers. There have been a few times when I've almost left because of the grime and slop, only to be forced to endure because of kids who just want their mini-m&m and gummy shark covered desserts. Still, when they have two people on shift, Menchie's can actually be a fairly positive experience. I'd still rather just go to Handel's, where I find you get a bit more for your buck overall. But, here at Menchie's, your kids get the visceral thrill of coating their yogurt in animal cookies, mini-marshmallows, and Oreo crumbles.
