Oh. My. Goodness. Sub Culture is the SHIT! They serve some of the best sandwiches I've had in a while and they have tons of veggie options on the menu. My favorite is the Meltdown and I like to add tempeh. Yummmmmm. I think they delivery by bicycle. The handful of times I have ordered delivery from them it came in under 25 minutes. You just can't really beat that. If you decide to eat in, pints of PBR are $1.25 all day on Saturday. Honestly, their margarita was a bit sub-par, but I'm not going to hold that against them considering they are a small sandwich shop. A must try! read more

This was the worst overpriced sandwich I have ever had the dis-pleasure of paying too much for, just to be disappointed. They sell cold, bland shredded beef as a pot roast sandwich. The menu even says "fresh beef roasted and sliced daily". Pot roast should be sliced, thicker than Roast beef, and tender, but not shredded. When I did complain, the cook told me I must have meant to order the Roast Beef sandwich. No, I am a trained chef, and I do know the difference. I grew up in New England, trust me, I know a pot roast, and pot roast sandwiches from the leftovers! I would NEVER spend another dime there, I would not recommend to anyone, and I didn't ask for a refund just to show you that I wasn't looking for something for free. If you want to charge over $10 for a $4.50 sandwich, it better be the best sandwich I have ever eaten, not the worst. I always like sandwich places that spice things up with interesting combinations of ingredients. Everything I've tried has been very good, one of my favorites is the Mile High Turkey sandwich. The staff are personable and fun, never had an issue with them. Deciding between this place and snarf's is sometimes hard, Snarf's presents some fierce competition for them. At the end of the day though, Snarf's doesn't have many of the interesting and creative sandwiches that this shop has. You might just find your perfect sandwich here! My only complaint is that it can be a bit expensive, especially if you want a full size sandwich and a drink. Probably par for the course in a downtown area though. read more

I had heard much about this place, particularly from fellow vegetarians singing the praises of a place that offered vegetarian subs beyond the traditional lettuce, tomato and cheese, or even Snarf's artichoke or portabello. I've never been a sandwich kinda gal, cause most vegetarian subs are over priced and under fulfilling. How wrong I was. First, we stopped by on the way to the DCPA, and I had the Alps, which was creamy, cheese, veggie-y and overall, delicious...though clearly, unlike Subway where a foot long is barely enough, the 12" was far more food than I needed. My partner got some turkey action, and polished it off in no time. I followed up this trip with a quick stop before Presidential Debate Bingo at Beauty Bar, and branched out for their veggie rueben. I LOVE vegan/vegetarian ruebens, like WOHA, and have eaten them at places nation wide. This one is hands down the best vegetarian ruben I've yet to have. The subs are really really amazing. Chock-full of meat and toppings, all of which are fresh and tasty. The menu is wildly variant, and full of options for every mood, even if vegetarian! Yum! Tasty sandwiches and SO many to choose from. It's kind of overwhelming. They have a great vegetarian selection if you're looking for somewhere that does that. We shared the Italian and the Londoner. The Italian was pretty good. I didn't love the bread but that's just me. The Londoner was ok, the bread is toasted and therefore ripped apart my mouth (grrrr.) The horseradish sauce is tasty but it was glopped on in one spot which is my biggest sandwich pet peeve. I think this place probably has potential, I just need to remember it's here! read more

Imaginative and fun sub shop in Capitol Hill! We wandered over here after a nice visit to the Kirkland on a Sunday afternoon and we were pulled in by the beautiful long picnic tables and their outdoor seating area. What a great space! Frankly we just wanted to bask in the February sun outside, but ended up being incredibly pleased with the sub menu! The menu is so long and ingenious that we probably took 20 minutes to decide what amazing sandwich were each going to have. I was thrilled to find out they have gluten-free bread and my sandwich was therefore perfect! I can't remember what mine was called but it was roast beef mozzarella and really great French gluten-free bread. Way to go! Huge plus: the friendly staff made my day! read more

I was pretty excited to try this place because there are SOO many vegetarian/vegan options on the menu, but...it was a little bit of a let down. After extensive perusing of the menu, I finally settled on the vegetarian tempeh reuben - can't miss with sauerkraut, melty cheese and thousand island dressing, right? Wrong. After waiting 20-25 minutes for my sandwich, it was greasy and bland. It had next to no flavor. I had to add some mustard to it just so I could taste something. Very sad! I'm not giving up on this place - I want to go back and try something else, but it will not be the tempeh reuben! On a positive note, it has a very hip and fun atmosphere. There was a guy playing guitar while I was there, and it seemed like a great spot to hang out. Also great deals on happy hour drinks. Definitely deserves a second chance. read more

Tight, tight parking lot, but go right around the corner and plenty of metered spaces. Had half a Gaucho, which I brought home and shared with my husband, to my deep regret. It was fabulous! The bread was very fresh, meat flavorful and juicy. And, they layered the fixings evenly; huge pet peeve to get the bulk in the middle and nothing on the ends. Variety looks good on paper, but I prefer places that have a specialty (thinking Snarfs or a Denver Teds) I had a Slow Roasted Colorado Beef sammy. Along with the beef was cream cheese, tomatoes, and a dabble of green chili and lettuce. It really was a good mix. Unfortunately the bread was collateral damage. Uninteresting texture and overwhelming flavor suffocated the actual substance of the sammy. First wish: SubCulture would specialize with a sandwich and crush it. Ordered from here for the first time on a cold night, food was delivered a little late on account of the fact that the delivery boy "got a flat tire" - not a big deal...it wasn't nice and warm but definitely was super tasty. They got the order just right - we ordered a Meltdown and the cheesy goodness was well done. I love having a sandwich shop so close to home and so many things to choose from! I haven't had a bad sandwich yet and I really want to try everything on the menu! The sauces are full of flavor and the combinations for the sandwiches work so well together. Anytime I feel like grabbing a sandwich--this is my first choice. All I can say is that going there the other night I was rudely shocked by a Jeep screeching in the parking spot right outside the door. It is such a small place and that noise could have woken the dead! I know that I live in Capitol Hill and noise is unavoidable so normally I wouldn't complain. However, when I found out that it was someone that worked there--I was rather agitated. I hope this place survives as this has been a bad corner for restaurants over last 8 years. We stopped in during there happy hour for quick dinner. It is best to idea what you want as they have very extensive menu with daily special. The beer menu is very limited but if like PBR have very good price for a draft. I think also 4 micro brews as I remember. The staff was friendly and prompt. The bread was white or wheat toasted. Both were warm. The half sandwich was adequate for both myself and companion. The fixings were fresh. What can you say beyond that on a sub shop. You order at counter and they deliver to you at table. The porch is nice. We will return. For a good filling sandwich and a beverage it was excellent. The prices were reasonable although more than at a Subway. I almost gave 5 stars as really everything was excellent. read more

With so many sandwhich shops cluttering this neighborhood, this one really stands out for all the right reasons. First off, the selection is huge. It was not overwhelming, because I have vowed to go back. There are a ton a vegetarian options, butt as a proud meat eater, their pastrami was delicious.
