"Dosas come in quicker and tastier than some other well known South Indian food chains" I have known Subiksha restaurant for a long time and they have come a long way. We ordered some dosas and sambar vada. The Dosa was phenomenal and I dare anyone to finish the Dosa on your own. It was huge! Except for the tomato chutney, everything else tasted exactly as back home. The interiors are nicer now and they have some tables but definitely can be made larger for more customers (given their popularity). The only downside is they don't have filter coffee which IMO, is a must have for any South Indian restaurant. The other downside is, along with their growth, the food prices have become costlier. Dinner for 2 could cost you easily between 30-40$. Otherwise must visit for any South Indian fan. I plan to come again for a full Thali.

I have been disappointed time and again with some of the South Indian restaurants that I have eaten at. I spent some time doing research on the internet before I found this place through Google reviews. Walking into the restaurant, I found the ambience pleasant and the seating area nice. The place is pretty busy and there is a thirty minute limit to how long you can occupy a table. I had a weird experience of having an ill-mannered stranger just come and sit at my table without even asking me if it was all right with me - to their credit, one of the gracious servers noticed this and especially came to ask me if I was okay with sharing my table. I didn't want to make a scene and said it was fine. I ordered the paper roast masala dosa. It was a decent sized dosa stuffed full with potatoes although it desperately needed some salt and spice to make it tasty. The sambar was cold and the quantity was too less for the dosa. Not being a chutney expert, I can only say that the tomato chutney was pretty nice compared to the others. As I mentioned before, the servers were nice and attentive - no tip was demanded for their service. I would have loved to give this place a higher rating, but the the lack of taste and/or spice in the food and bad condition of the washrooms makes this impossible.

I came to this place in hopes to find a replacement for my Dosa craving as my regular place is no longer. I picked this place based off the yelp reviews and the Google reviews. The dosa selection was good. I found there was something for everyone on the menu in regards to flavours and preferences. After reviewing everything, I went with the trusty Mysore Masala dosa and a Masala dosa. Now the dosa itself was very good. A nice light and crispy dosa for each one we ordered. The reason for the star loss you ask? The sambar was extremely small and the chutney's were extremely watery. In fact, I found we didn't eat much of any of the three chutneys. I know previous yelpers have had issues with the service however we found the service to be friendly, quick and not long of a wait to get anybody's attention (there was also no need to grab server's attention)

It was my first time having dosas and after reading the few but HIGHLY rated reviews about Subiksha, I knew this was the spot to get authentic & good valued dosa. //Venue & Service// When you walk in, you choose a table to sit and they'll bring over menus. Once you're ready, you go up to the cashier to order & pay, then they will bring your food to your table. We were fortunate to have an Indian family sitting nearby that overheard us freaking out about not knowing what to order. So we went with what they strongly recommended: 1) Masala Dosa $8.99 2) The Vegetarian Sampler Platter $11.99 3) Madras Coffee $2.99 There's also a sink at the side for you to wash up after devouring your meal with your hands ! //The Food// MASALA DOSA- The dosa was so crisp on the exterior but had a slight softer chewier layer underneath. In the center, it had a delicious potato stuffing. It was served with 3 chutneys & sambar. My favourite was the coriander mint chutney & the orange-coloured chilli chutney. VEGETARIAN SAMPLER PLATTER - With a mountain of rice and pappadam (crispy thin white flatbread), you had a wide variety of additional small dishes to eat with. I especially loved the spinach curry and the cabbage dish. They also had a small dessert of the savoury Medu Vada (mini donut) and sweet Mysore Pak (yellow block of ghee). MADRAS COFFEE- this little cup of filtered coffee is amazing. Coming from someone that doesn't like coffee, this was frothy, light, and sweet. //Overall// I would come back to this humble little restaurant in a heart beat for some authentic vegetarian South Indian cuisine!!

I used to go to Mississauga, once a month to have Dosas. But that place has got really busy now and it's impossible to get in without a reservation. Tried a couple times but they had no tables. I was really disappointed because I was craving for good Dosa which is really hard to find here. I was in the area and stumbled upon this restaurant on google. Saw some great reviews so decided to go in. I went there for dinner with my husband. As you enter you can see that it is a restaurant with a very basic decor. You can sit where ever you like. Server will give you menus and you can decide what you want to order. We decided to go for a Paper Roast Masala Dosa and Masala Onion Dosa and Madras Coffee. Food arrived very quickly. It was a huge portion. An overwhelmingly big dosa served with 2 chutneys, sambhar and 2 other veg dishes. Both the dosas were very crispy and beautifully cooked. Both the chutneys - Coriander coconut and spicy coconut were very delicious. Sambhar was the star of the dish. However the portion size of Sambhar is very small, not at all enough for the Size of Dosa they serve. We had to order 2 more sides of Sambhar to finish our dosa. I would highly recommend them to increase their portion size for their sambhar. I can also say that this was by far the best dosa I've ever had in Toronto and one of the major reasons they get the first spot from me is because of their Sambhar and chutneys which were on point. I have had equally good dosas but not sambhar ans chutneys. Do visit if you like dosas or would like to try it for the first time.

Best vegetarian south Indian food in town. Personally i am a huge fan of their masala dosas. The Gun Powder Onion Masala Dosa and their Masala Tea are must try items.

Low key seems to be the right key to this girl's heart. On a slow Saturday morning, we decided to venture out to parts unknown in our neighborhood. Much to my surprise, a little hidden shop that I've so frequently overlooked, definitely exceeded my expectations in the most pleasant of ways. Subiksha is minimalistic in its décor and presentation, but when it comes to their food, it's everything but. Packed full of flavor and savoury goodness, they redefined my standards of dosas- perhaps, dare I say that this is definitely the best Dosas I've ever had. The shop's small dining area is barely big enough to accommodate for their overflowing patrons. Popping with locals, we were lucky to snatch a seat as we entered. Bared walls and beaten furniture aside, the wait staff were lovely, even at the busiest of times. Though I had to say, they only have a very limited numbers of menus to go around, and had to wait a bit for it to make its rounds. They are little picture or descriptions to go by, I felt slightly overwhelmed by the large offerings. However, I did find out that their online website not only have the menu listed, but all the items are accompanied by pictures for the novice dinners, like myself. I ordered the Ghee Roast Masala dosa (with added cheese of course) and a paratha served with masala, along with a Madras Coffee and tea. The food came out impressively fast and hot. Dosa was paper thin and crisp as can be. The ghee and cheese added a layer of depth that I quite enjoyed. I loved that the Masala (although too carb laden even for me) was flavourful but not overly salty, and definitely filled me up to max itis inducing level. The lightness, evenness, and crispiness of the dosa hit all the right notes. The paratha was also very delicious. Flakey, buttery, and soft with a crispy exterior all rolled in one. Each of the accompanying sides was very carb heavy and will leave you quite full. We packed 50% of the meal home for later snackage. The tea and coffee were awesome as well, fragranced with cardamom and various spices. A definite must try. Strong bold taste that added quite a caffeine kick (take it from someone that drinks Vietnamese coffee in place of water). You should try to pull the drinks yourself. Be quick and nibble to not spill, transfer the liquid from one cup to another to add some body and foaminess to the drinks, surprisingly, by doing so it did transform the drinks quite nicely and cooled it down quicker. Overall, hands down this place has got it all, great food at an amazing price with no added pressure of looking good while eating. It was quite fun to eat everything with our hands (even though after multiple washing and lotioning up, the strong fragrance of the spices was still lingering), just remember to wash up prior and following the meal. We will definitely frequent this joint more often, it's well worth the try.

The location, set-up, and service in this place leaves a lot to be desired but is completely overshadowed by how great the food is, and how much of a steal it is at these prices! My companion and I settled on the Mysore Masala Onion Dosas, which did not disappoint. It's got just the right amount of spicy for those who like that kick, and the fresh red onion provides a lovely texture. The dosa is perfectly cooked and the masala potato curry inside is tasty! The accompanying sambar and chutneys are also fantastic! Also got some vada before we hit the road -- excellent snacks. Can't wait to return here sometime!

Best dosa in Scarborough! I've tried most of their dosa and my favorite two are ghee dosa and masala dosa. Some starters are not bad either. Worth every $ I spend!

Graceful Vegetarian Restaurant, located inside Splendid China Mall in Scarborough, serves Chinese…read morevegetarian dishes that (in my opinion) are way better than the ones served in similar Chinese vegetarian restaurants that I had been to elsewhere in the GTA. At Graceful, they actually offer dishes that contain no mock meat, such as straight tofu and bean curd varieties with fresh vegetables (as a non-meat eater, I'm not a big fan of mock meats). The food here seems to be a hit with both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The restaurant is easily spottable as there are huge signs and entrances from both outside and inside the mall. The interior is not very big - just one big room, but has a cozy and comfortable ambiance with Chinese decorations. There was a table with take-out snack and dessert items right at the entrance, where you can buy packages of cashew nuts, Chinese cookies, and glutinous rice-based snacks / desserts. Service was very friendly, quick, and much better than the service you'd find at most other Chinese restaurants anywhere else. We were presented with 3 menus: dim sum menu (where you mark the items you want to order yourself with a pencil), special dishes menu (with coloured photos), and the main menu (came in a paper booklet). We ordered a combination of dishes from the dim sum and main menus. DIM SUM - Vegetarian Shiu Mai: Loved it! The texture was very smooth and I could see the pieces of vegetables (maybe carrot, radish, water chestnut, mushrooms) in the shiu mai. - Mock BBQ Eel: We ordered this one just out of curiosity. This was my least favourite item out of the ones we ordered. It came out as cubed pieces of deep-fried gluten, covered in sweet sauce and a bit of sesame seeds. Not a fan of deep-fried stuff, and I didn't like the sweet sauce. It had zero resemblance (both visually and taste-wise) to eel (we didn't expect it to be... just wanted to see how this dish would turn out). - Mock Sliced Abalone Sashimi: This was okay, but it could do without the sauce. I liked the firm texture, just like abalone. It was served with a small dollop of wasabi (not needed, in my opinion). MAIN DISHES - Stir-Fried Tofu, Cabbage, Carrot, and Wood Ear Mushrooms: My absolute favourite dish here! We ordered it because I read another Yelp reviewer wrote that this dish was great, non-greasy, and non-oily. They were correct (thank you)! Glad we got this. The tofu was nice and firm with a chewy texture, and I loved all the vegetables that came with this dish. As a big fan of stir-fried cabbage and wood ear mushrooms, this was an easy win. I liked that it wasn't covered in thick sauce and not oily or greasy. - Egg Whites and Mock Crab Meat on Broccoli: Broccoli was a bit on the soft side, but I liked this dish for the combination of fresh vegs and a huge amount of lean protein (egg whites) on top. It was a big dish, and we got to take home some of the egg whites. - Crispy Egg-Free Noodles with Bean Curd Slices and Bitter Melon: This came with too much thick sauce (although I liked the black pepper), but the parts with the still-crispy noodles were good. The protein was actually called "Mock Beef" in the menu, but it was really bean curd slices. I liked the bitter melon the best in this dish, minus the sauce. Overall, this was a great place for Chinese vegetarian food. There was a wide variety of items to choose from, ranging from dim sum (small dishes) to larger main dishes, and all sorts of cooking styles (steamed, stir-fried, deep fried, soup, hot pot, etc.). In the fried rice section of the menu, it was written that they could make all of the fried rice vegan by omitting the eggs (good option for those who want them to be vegan). The 2 stand-outs of this restaurant were the quality and taste of the dishes (especially the ones with tofu / bean curd and actual vegetables), and the service. The gentleman who worked there (perhaps the manager or owner) really cared about his customers and acted like an owner - greeting us, making sure we were taken care of, giving us extra napkins and utensils when asked, explaining each dish that came out, and said goodbye as we were leaving. I plan on coming back to try some of their other dishes on the menu (still lots to choose from!).

Spouse had the mock sharks' fin soup - 10/10. We shared the "Korean style" napa cabbage with several mushrooms and taofu. It was outstanding and thankfully not loaded with cornstarch. 10/10. We splurged on "peanut filled dumplings" which contained minutely-chopped water chestnuts, chopped carrot and mushroom and the lovely crunchy peanuts. TEXTURE WAS SUBLIME and the TASTE outstanding. 10/10. Service: 10/10. Ambiance: 10/10. Highly, highly recommended.
