I will caveat this whole review by saying I think these women (Jill and Lori) are so great and have been a fan of their services for so long I consider them friends, but that being said - prior to becoming hooked on Jill Quinn for haircuts and Lori Dylan for color, I was a big salon slut, hitting trendy overpriced places and never really satisfied. As of finding these rocking women 6 years ago I literally would NEVER trust my cut or color to anyone else. Ever. Lori Dylan is such a cool woman and she has gone with me from blond to red, red to auburn and back to strawberry, an ill-fated fling with my so-called "real" hair color (horrid) and back to our current warm red-blond hybrid and there has been not one day I have walked out of there (and we are talking every bloody 6 weeks for almost 6 years) that I have not been totally happy with her services. I have sent a ton of people to her and she has always treated everyone beautifully and given them great color. Jill Quinn has turned my somewhat thin, weird hair into a mane of silky perfectly layered stuff. I honestly have no idea how she pulls this off. It seems to have something to do with a magical potion of skill, hair product and flat iron - but all I know is I have again never, EVER, gotten a bad haircut with her, or even a mediocre haircut from Jill. I would not let anyone else touch my head under any circumstances. She is also just a complete sweety - and as a woman business owner, I totally applaud her for taking the plunge of owning a salon with Micki her partner. They are also super picky about who they staff the place with and their reception folks are always amazing. Dean was just a cult hero in my mind and their new regular reception Timaree is also just a lovely welcoming presence. Seriously, check out Sublime - a relaxed but chic atmosphere, incredibly warm and friendly stylists. The only complaint I have ever heard is that it is sometimes a little tough to get in right away -- but you know, good people are in demand. They are not super cheap, but as in most services you get what you pay for and they are less than or comparable too other salons in their high end category. Thursday night wine night is really fun and mellow. If you are tired of hunting for consistently great place - try them out. You won't regret it. read more

loves it. jill is amazing with hair (i've ALWAYS gotten exactly what i wanted, even when i didn't know how to express it in words) and hilarious. (if you're from minnesota/iowa and like to make fun of it as much as i do, you'll both be giggling throughout.) plus, the music is always great. i love hearing brazilian girls while getting a head massage, don't you? i've been going here since she opened (and before, when she worked out of posh, nearby) and have never been disappointed. i've also had my hair cut by terry (sp?), and she is also quite good. both are very chill conversationalists, so it's not some faux, slightly tense because you're moving your jaw and such (maybe a boy hair thing), annoying obligation like it can be with some stylists. UPDATE: HOURS, PRICES, BIO, ETC. POSTED ON THEIR WEBSITE, WHICH I ALWAYS APPRECIATE. I WROTE MY REVIEW A LONG TIME AGO AND THEY'RE STILL AWESOME. Rebecca just colored and cut my hair a few days ago. I had grey roots, outgrown highlights and long, dry hair. She added foils to blend with my existing highlights, colored my grey roots and trimmed all my dry ends. She even added toner to tame some of my brassy old highlights. Rebecca is amazing! read more

I got highlights, full hair toned, and then a gorgeous cut with Rebecca. She was excellent! From the moment I stepped into the salon, I loved it. Very bright and clean, and offered a refreshment upon arrival! Rebecca listened very well and was able to create exactly what I wanted-- natural looking highlights at the root to tie in my old dye job with my roots. I love it! It's a documented Yelp fact that the thing that people are LEAST likely to review is their salon or hairdresser. So, with much trepidation and with fear that I'll never be able to get onto her calendar again: I'm writing this review for Jamie. I've been seeing Jamie for years -- first at Grasshopper, now at Sublime. She is great, insightful and thoughtful -- in addition to a great haircut, I love the 1 or 2 hrs I spend talking with her, as opposed to the awkward silence you sometimes encounter. I purchased a Groupon with Wendy for a haircut and keratin/Brazilian. They have online booking system, but you have to call to make an appointment if you use the groupon. The salon looks brand new, and is extremely clean. Everyone there was super friendly, including Wendy. I am very happy with how my hair turned out. Wendy is very skilled and pleasant to talk to. She never seemed rushed, but the whole appointment was over an hour earlier than expected! I will definitely be visiting again. read more

When i was 15 my hair took over a convenience store in Wichita. On my 18th birthday, i woke up in a dutch prison, covered in super-hold gel and sporting a three foot afro. Xochitel did my color here an it was superb! She was meticulous and careful, which resulted in the tiniest little highlights - so natural looking! My hair is very fine, limp, and straight, so mistakes are easily noticeable in it - but to this day (its been about 2 months since the color), I haven't found any issues, and the color is growing out great! After much trial and error - I finally have a hair stylist that I love! Shvonne is hilarious, easy to talk to and honest, not to mention a baller at cutting and styling hair. Okay, I can finally GUSH to you about how FABULOUS ANASTASIA is because I am moving away and therefore must give up my cherished end of the day time slot with her. Even though I only saw her every two months, she is always booked and it's hard to get an appointment, so call now and set your's up! I get so many compliments on my hair after Anastasia does my color, and this woman is a master at big, beautiful blow-outs! I've only met two other stylists who were able to transform my very thick, long, wavy/curly (between a 2c and 3a, for you curly girls) mess of a mane into hair worthy of a shampoo commercial, and the other two were very muscular gym bunnies who used their body weight as leverage when pulling the round brush under the hair drier. Yes, I will suffer for gorgeous locks and no, I am not tender-headed! :) I will miss going to Anastasia, and dread having to search for someone to live up to her skills in my new city. Jen gave our two year-old son his FIRST HAIRCUT, and we couldn't have been happier! She is a total pro! She was patient and gentle throughout all his crying and squirming (he had just been woken up from his nap). She was even able to give our son a great haircut while he sat in my husband's lap, since he wouldn't stay sitting in the chair by himself. AMAZING is all I can say!!! A baby's first haircut is a very, very special moment in a family's life, and Jen really understood that. She was so loving, careful, and responsive to our needs. She took her time and really tried to get me to the point of color I was hoping to achieve without giving me any false hope. I came here for the first time today since my long time stylist Shvonne Austin just relocated here and I was so impressed by the salon that I wanted to write a review. First of all, Sublime is a salon that houses many different stylists who act autonomously under one shared space. I am such a fan of Shvonne (I would give her 6 stars if I could) that I of course followed her to this space. Sublime is modern, open and has that "cool" effect without being too much or overbearing. While I only had a blow-out today, this will be a really nice space to relax when I sit processing for a longer period of time during my next visit. This salon also features my favorite products, Kerastase and Bumble and bumble, so I left with repaired and awesome smelling hair. Secondly, I would highly recommend Shvonne to anyone who wants a stylist who really listens to you and respects your short and long term goals for your style. I have been going to her for 2 years for highlights, cuts and blow-outs after a friend recommended her, and even though I have now moved a couple miles south I still make the trek to come see her, she is that good. For someone who has hopped around to many stylists prior to seeing Shvonne, and is very picky and particular about my hair it is saying a lot that she is now my go-to in SF (and that I have let her recommend new styles which turned out perfect for my hair type!) Lastly, because all the stylists at this location are independent, I cannot comment on some of the experiences that received poor ratings since I only go here for Shvonne, but if you are looking for a relaxed non-pretentious salon that has great products I would highly recommend this Salon. read more

I've been going to Sublime Salon for 3 years. Even after moving to a neighborhood farther away from the Fillmore area. Claire is my GO-TO for cuts/styling. She is so sweet, remembers me and things we've talked about and is really consultative with my hair! I've referred many friends to her who are now happy, returning clients :) Claire knows how to treat a client relationship and makes it into a partnership & friendship! She's the absolute best. I'm a first-time client of Andrew Rojas who specializes in color. He is AMAZING! He was so focused, detailed and attentive to me. I am picky about my hair stylist... so picky that I have been cutting my own hair for 10 years! I finally decided that I needed some 'professional' help. I had my hair long, down my back, cut straight across. This means that my hair spent most of my time in a pony-tail! I went in to see Jill and told her I wanted something that was easy and quick (I didn't even want to take time to blow dry!). She asked me if I was OK going short (I was) and I left with this AMAZING short layered haircut! I feel like a new person! It was exactly what I wanted: quick, simple, young, cute, and NO BLOW DRYING!!!! I am glad I now have a stylist that I can trust! P.S. Dylan also did a great all over tint. The receptionists are so sweet they catch up on my life every time I visit. But the main story here: Jill is just magic with the scissors. Jill understood my hair from day 1. No learning curve of 4 visits to finally get what I wanted. She truly listens to what I want and takes her time to get each snip in so I look amazing when I leave there. I've been going to Sublime for a while, now, and frankly, I'm surprised it took me so long to review. Let me start by saying that I'm "thinning" on top, and am a bit self- concious about it to boot. No worries, though, cause I got an awesome cut from Teri. She really new how to make it look like i had much more than I did... No easy task, mind you. The atmosphere at the salon is, well, sublime. No need to yell over blaring songs from Brooklyn garage rock group #5250 or some surprise hipster assymetrical psuedo mullets you didn't want. Pleasant experience all the way around. For those worried about price, go up a couple of blocks to Super Cuts. You will surely find you get what you pay for. PS Teri gives the best head messages. Bonus! read more

I bought a Brazilian blowout coupon from Bloomspot and was lucky enough to get Wendy as my stylist. This is my fourth Brazilian blowout, the other three done by other stylists at other salons, however this is the best one I have had done by far. Wendy did a thorough consultation before she began to make sure we were on the same page as to what my expectation was. We spent the next few hours chatting while I was getting my hair done which made the experience even more fun. The best part is that she told me that the salon will honor the Bloomspot price for a second time if I get the second one done within 4 months. I thought this was great news given that I was so pleased with the results. The salon itself is in a great location and easy to find neighborhood parking. The place is clean and neat with a very unpretentious vibe. I live in San Mateo but it is definitely worth the drive into the City for such a positive experience. Claire Pelzner is one of those hair stylists with such precise skill I feel compelled to share. The ability to cut a perfect bob or really straight bangs takes skill, precision and a steady hand. Claire has all that in abundance plus she is a really sweet and kind person. Claire has been cutting my kids (15 and 18), my husband, my mother and aunt for over 2 years and she just gets better and better. Claire only cuts no color. The salon's ambiance is not my favorite, but the staff are all nice and the cut is worth the trade-off. Shvonne Austin is amazing. I was referred to her by my young, hip niece. She was using Shvonne for her fashion shoots. She is a color educator, and gives amazing haircuts! I always use the product she recommends. She transformed my hair in a few short months. I get so many compliments on my hair now! When I arrived at the salon, I discovered that my stylist had suddenly become ill. Thankfully Micki fit me into her schedule. The hair cut was fantastic! It cost about $70. I went from long hair to short. Perfect length. Just the right amount of layers. Somehow she reduced my hair's frizziness. And she gave a wonderful neck massage while washing my hair. I dread trying to find parking in this neighborhood. At least the street parking was free though. read more

Update: So, it's now been seven years I've been going to Jamie. I've visited other salons for cuts, and I cannot find a single person who cuts like she does. She is meticulous with a capital "M" and she will spend as long as it takes to cut your hair right (up to two hours in my case--I have super thick, long hair and lots of it). I am ashamed to say that last week, I went to another salon. I wanted a Japanese digital perm, and Sublime doesn't offer that service. A cut came with the perm from the 'other' salon, but I should've just asked for the perm and saved the cut with Jamie, because, while the perm came out fantastic, the cut leaves something to be desired. I've since referred at least 5 more people over to Jaime. Once, I got my hair cut with her right before I went to a real estate showing for a condo that we were interested in buying. I am not exaggerating when I say that the sales agent complimented my hair at least five times. She even apologized for complimenting my hair so much. I gave her Jamie's business card. Jamie rocks. The BEST haircut I've had in my life. I still remember how awesome my haircut was even though it was around 4 years ago. This was the first pretty high end salon I've been to and it was pretty expensive for me as I was in college at that time but it was TOTALLY worth it. I wish I remembered my stylist's name, but I'm sure all of the stylists do a great job. I cut my long hair super short and had no idea how I wanted it styled. My stylist worked her magic and gave me the greatest short haircut in my life. No one was able to match what she did with my short hair. I kept on getting compliments and I still do after all these years (my friends say things like "remember the time in college you had your awesome short haircut?"). I have had both Jill and Tatiana do my fancy up-dos for weddings (one of myself and one for my sister's,) and they both turned out fantastic. I didn't bring in pictures and my hair styling vocabulary was pathetic. I basically said something like, "volume up here, low bun, tousled look" and an hour later, voila, I had exactly what I envisioned in my head but couldn't express with words. My hair looked so great a celebrity should hold a picture of it and tell her stylist, "I want something like this." I am only kidding. If I could give her more stars I would! Jamie ROCKS! I have wavy hair that doesn't like to be straight but frizzes the second I step out the door and Jamie has whipped it into shape. I started going to Jamie this summer, each time coming to her w/a new hair dilema and each time she has the solution...never stumped! Ever! It's fantastic, I finally actually really love my hair!...O and I don't have to put 40 different products in it or spend 3 hours styling it daily either. For the first time in my life I actually have hair that if I want to wash it and let it air dry I can and I won't look like a fool....and styling....styling take 10-15 mins flat! How cool is that?! My cuts are superb & color never fades. My hair and I have never been at peace w/each other but we are now thanks to Jamie the hair whisperer (HA!, hope she doesn't mind my nick name....but really ppl she is a miracle worker I swear)! Seriously, she listens to you and the trials and tribulations of having the mop atop your head that seems to be your arch nemesis and she always comes up w/the ammo that's going to help you win the war against your hair. Problem one; Help Jamie.....In the sun all day and my color changes and becomes orange....Jamie solved that, I had beautiful locks all summer and never did they change to Carrot Top Orange. Prob #2 OMG! Winter air...could it make my hair frizz any more from the moisture?! Jamie solved that too! Perfect cut, right blow out technique and just a dab of the right product...bye bye frizz! i could go on but you get the point. She's great...If you have hair that has declared WWIII on your head...or even if you have the perfect tress (lucky)...you should totally go to Jamie! PAM IS A COLOR GENIUS!!! I'm giving this place 5 stars because my colorist Pam is the best I have ever had and I've lived all over. Paris, New York, you name it Pam is the best. I came to Pam over a year ago after having tried to color my own hair for the first time. It came out copper... Needless to say Pam worked tirelessly for over 3 hours to fix the color. I have never had anybody be so dedicated and still remain positive after fixing my mess. I've been seeing her ever since and have never had more compliments on my color. Even my mother thinks it's the most natural it's ever been. She has a way of assessing exactly what you need and delivering. Add that she is the sweetest person ever and it makes for a great experience. I travel over 1 hour now just to see Pam. On another note... I've had my hair cut only once at Sublime by Jill. She was like a deer in headlights. She shot down all of my suggestions and couldn't come up with any on her own. I walked out paying $80 for a cut that looked like I walked out of a Supercuts. I've seen other reviews about Jill that are decent so maybe she was having a bad day? Never would I ever go back to her though. Thankfully I found someone great in my neighborhood that actually listens to me and delivers. Otherwise, everybody else at this salon has been incredible. read more

Terri was wonderful -- I told her what I wanted (no more dry split ends, keep my long hair, but soften my hairdo) and she delivered a pretty cute 'do. She didn't start chopping away like some hairdressers do... instead, little by little, she created a pretty nice cut. Rosa was pretty cool too. She fixed my hair color the next day, after I found that it was too light on top, and dark on the ends. Their products from the Kinerase line, are magnificent. Even though I didn't buy them that day, I will eventually because they really made my hair soft, even after I had it dyed. read more

I had a Kerastase hair treatment gift certificate, and was lucky to meet Jill. She was super nice throughout the treatment, explained what she was doing, and patiently taught me how to get the frizzies out of my hair with good product. She's laid back and knows her stuff. The absolute best part was her ending consultation for my future hair cut, and how it could be cut and styled a little better. I am sooo looking forward to her appt in a few weeks. I seriously cannot wait for her to cut my hair. Just wanted to update my review and say I still love Sublime. I am kind of a tom boy. Not great with hair or clothing but I want to look good. I just am not good at looking good. I got a few Groupon discounts for hair cuts at other salons. BIG MISTAKE. No one complimented my hair and it was so hard to do. Went back to Micki and she advised me on what to do as the disaster hair cuts grew out. Now I FINALLY AGAIN have a shape I adore. My husband is always commenting how much he loves my hair. It is easy to do and I love the shape and style. I will never go anywhere else. Micki is excellent. I also love the entire staff is friendly. I despise snobby salons. they are also knowledgeable about the Kerastase products they sell as well as color and cuts. I LOVE them. I love Sublime. I started going one year ago. I have never had so many compliments on my hair. I am pretty low maintenance and Miki gives me a very easy but stylish cut that even I can manage. The whole salon is down to earth and yet sophisticated. You will have a great time talking to Miki while she gives you a great cut. My friend, who is a color stylist, taught me that a good cut will grow out really well. I just went about 5 months without a cut and my hair looked fine. I have been going to Anastacia for my coloring for about 6 years. She saved my hair. I used to dye it platinum and then black and then black and platinum. It was a mess when I went to her. I was desparate to find someone who could save me from myself. She saved me. I made her swear to never let me dye my hair anything beyond what I'm naturally supposed to be. She has kept her promise and I love her work. She's just fabulous and it's always a pleasure visiting her. The salon is nice; the staff is very hospitable and I would highly recommend it. First time at the salon and gotta say that Jen did a great job. I just got my bangs trimmed, and I'm usually always afraid of how they'll turn out, but they turned out great. Very simple, side-swept, and no complications at all. She even gave me advice about changing my part once in a while, and cut them in a such a way that I could switch sides. Staff was very nice.
