I don't get subs too often but Submarina is just so much better than Subway in every aspect. Yes, you will pay a couple of dollars more for it but the amount of meat and quality of everything is what you're paying that extra for. I love the Santa Fe sub. The wheat bread is soft and delicious. My mom really likes the turkey and ham. They have a ton of different breads you can get and I haven't had one at this location that was bad. Service has always been great here, food is awesome but it can be a little busy during lunch. Which is to be expected. Definitely a great place to grab a sub at. read more

Just got my lunch using doordash.com to order a sandwich. The only thing good was the driver - who doesn't work for Submarina. The website has an area for special instructions. I asked them to exclude 2 things, 1 of which I'm allergic to. The simple request was overlooked; and now my lunch is in the trash because the slime from the tomatoes soaked into the bread. Also my sandwich is advertised as coming with Provolone and they goofed their own recipe and used American, which I hadn't requested. Ordered Italian Sub over phone, maybe not a good idea. Asked for extra lettuce, tomato and pepperoncini. Rec'd what can only be described as minimal toppings (forget the extras and then some) and missing some toppings like onions and olives.. Ordered a whole sandwich which was cut in four sections, that's the good part. Bad was some sections had very little toppings at all. I've ordered sandwiches at Submarina since they first opened the doors in Escondido about 30 years ago. The sandwiches today are nothing like they used to be. Much less meat and overall toppings. I've been eating at Submarina for a while now, I went in today to order a salad approximately 1:30 pm, not that busy. One of the guys was wearing gloves but touching non food items as he went to the back and then to the deli table. He then proceeded to make my salad after the lunch meat was cut. He grabbed the meat off the table in a manner as if it was a towel, wiping the board and putting it in my bowl. He then grabbed other pieces meat in the same manor and put it in my salad. I paid for the salad and had the cashier throw it away. just because you have gloves on doesn't mean you can touch anything without changing the gloves. read more

I love Submarina- normally frequent the one in Escondido-it's the best!!! But I was near the Vista one and called in my order. They told me it would be fifteen minutes got there in ten, they hadn't even started my order. There were three people that came in after me and they were served long before me. I could've gotten in line and received my order faster! Once I got home my sandwich which should've had pepperocini's had green bell peppers. Called the store and asked for a manager no one was available but I left my number and it took the manager 1 week to call me back! Poor customer service I WILL NOT be going back! I'll stick to the one in Escondido which by far superior in quality and customer service! read more

I go to submarina frequently. I have tried many branches. I typically go to the west Oceanside location that is located on vista way. However when I am in the area I go to this location. I used to really enjoy this location but I went just last week and it was not good. The quality was simply okay, didn't pack a lot of anything at all on my wrap and my tuna was not the regular submarina tuna but one with just plain mayo which was again okay. I also came here with my mom who got a turkey sandwich who agreed that it was not very good and even complained that her bread was stale. The employees were nice and tentative. I just wish that the quality didn't suffer. If you are willing to, I would highly recommend the other location it is the only one I have found that stays consistent. read more

I love submarina ! I come here during lunch and order a chicken & turkey on squaw bread. So good ! The costumer service is not great. They messed up my order, and burned my bread. We love and prefer Submarina to any other local sub shops we have tried. The ingredients are fresh, the staff is friendly, the food is very good and portions generous. The variety of ingredients should please most. One can actually taste the meat, cheese or vegetables in the subs (unlike some other places). The willingness of the team to adjust to your requests is good customer service. We on the other side of Vista really miss our Submarina on Melrose. read more

I've been going here for more than 5 years and I've seen it go through changes in ownership and management and staff. Through it all, they've maintained high standards in ingredients and service. Unlike the "other" sandwich shop, Submarina actually has real bread that tastes like bread (as opposed to Styrofoam). They also have whole produce that always looks wonderful. They slice the meat and cheese in front of you and everything is fresh. There are no flavorless sandwich breads-- they have selections like Squaw bread (yum) and delicious wheat bread. There are no green vats of mystery mash labeled "avocado"-- instead, they slice fresh avocados and lay the slices neatly across your sandwich. You can have your sandwich toasted, and the assortment of cheeses is fantastic (I'm partial to a melted mixture of Havarti & PepperJack). They have a decent chip assortment, and they run "combo specials" so you can get sandwich/drink/chips for a deal. It's true, they are a little pricier than the "other" sandwich shop, but only a little. And for the quality, it's worth it. Everyone that has helped me has been great, but I have to give a special shout-out to Rachel. She has been there for as long as I've been going there, and as far as I'm concerned she is a Sandwich Master. She has consistently delivered phenomenal sandwiches to me for the last half-decade and she always greets me with a smile and asks how I am. Submarina is lucky to have her.
