This is a very nice facility for events and expos. I appreciate the variety of events they bring to the area and being able to check out tons of vendors in one place for whichever thing you are interested in. Decided to go check out some craft vendors at the Showplace. The craft show was located at the left side of the building or Hall A. Lots of 3D Print, crocheted items, resin pieces, wood craft items, dog focused vendors. Already printed t-shirts and homemade clothing items and custom wreaths. It was a quick visit, nothing caught my eye, took a second look at some knitted hats. Mostly inexpensive items being sold. read more

Nice big open space with plenty of bathrooms and easy parking. The line was long to buy tickets they only had one person so that kind of sucked. The only other negative was they didn't have a coat check or at least we never found one if they did. Other than that it was a nice place for a show. So much better than having to drive to the cobo center downtown. read more

The parking here is always plentiful, but expensive. Depending which venue you're here for the prices can vary from $5,$10, and up. The overall facility is nice, and they host so many different events here. It is super conveniently located off of the highway. I do like when events are hosted here because it's so easy to get in and out of here, and they do a nice job hosting events. It's just always super expensive here though. read more

Three years later so it's time to update this review. I again attended Motor City Comic Con at the Suburban Collection Showcase this weekend, and I attended all three days. The venue is conveniently located near 96/696 and lines were never long to get in/out of the venue, for the most part. On Friday, I had my parents drop me off and there's really no good place to do it ... we told the guy collecting parking ($10, and normally SCS is $5 ... yay) that they were dropping me off. I had a media pass for comic con so I had to walk all the way around the building to get to the loading dock entrance (10 minute walk) which, in sandals, was not fun. On Saturday, we paid the $10 to park, since we were going to be there for a while; same for Sunday. Both times, they had us park in the West lot ... on Sunday, we snagged a shuttle ride to the building which was nice (less walking). Overall, I give the venue 3 stars: it could be better, but could also be worse. We ate lunch at SCS on Saturday and had to wait about 20-25 minutes in line ... major "entree" options include hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza (meat + cheese options), and a "walking taco" (Fritos + ground beef + lettuce/cheese) and they range from $4-6. There are also stands selling everything from ice cream, to candied nuts, to beef jerky. IMO they should really add some food carts or something outside - when we left on Sunday, I saw they did have a small tent selling the same things they sold inside, so perhaps we should have done that on Saturday for lunch. Bathrooms are plentiful but mostly in the hallways and near the front of the expo area - I don't think there are any near the back of the expo, at least none that I saw. They are currently in the process of expanding SCS, and perhaps large shows like MCCC will have more space after they do that. read more

Vending at a vintage clothing event at this venue,as I do at many other venues across the Midwest.Very rude,abrupt,dismissive worker ( head of security?) told me I could not use one of the at least 75 chairs from the concession area- to sit near my booth.Ive never had any issues at any other venue,the workers have always been so friendly and helpful but this man curtly told me " you guys can't use these chairs" and took it! He then allowed another employee to use it,directly across from me .and then random shoppers would sit in the chair too. I stood from 8:30- 5 o'clock.When I had to ,I sat on the concrete floor It was beyond ridicules,just a very shitty experience. I'm 52 years old and have arthritis and back issues,never in a million years would I thought I'd be sitting on a concrete floor at an event. What kind of man takes a chair away from a women? Oh,and vendors-the venue does not have carts to use for load in/ load out, unusual for a venue that holds events. read more

We exhibited at the Detroit cottage and lakefront show. It was easy to move in and out and found easy parking near our entrance.bshow had low traffic the first two days which was too bad. The bathrooms at the back of the building were way cleaner, newer and larger. The bathrooms near concessions did not seem as well kept and we're much smaller. The concessions offered for these show were not healthy at all. A nice salad, sandwich or wrap would have bumped my rating higher. Being a vendor at a show like this it's not fun to eat the hamburger, hot dog, beat thing everyday. read more

Outdoor extravaganza/ and home show of 2024. We have been going for years, but this year was very disappointing. It's $10 for parking now, $12 a person to get in, they must be charging the vendors crazy money, because their was not very many there. We also ate dinner there, fish fry cod, and walleye. The cole slaw was put underneath the fries ,and fish, instead of in a cup. The fries were nasty, 2 piece of the cod, half of them were nothing but batter. The walleye you only got 2 pieces, All of this for $35 dollars. I would not mind paying that much if it was good. I hate leaving a bad review, but of no one says anything they will just keep taking advantage. read more

Decent spot for motor city comic con and other conventions. Parking is convenient and the space is large enough. The bathrooms are usually clean and whatnot, but the rest of the building (hallways) needs some more cleaning. However, the concessions are super expensive and the building is horrible for using your cell phone. No WiFi, the insulation or something drains down my iPhone battery, and my phone can't get make or receive calls or texts at all, until I go out to the car. What is the problem? It annoys me. My fully charged new iPhone goes dead if I try taking a few pics in this building. It's bizarre- and an inconvenient part of coming here. The only option for food other than concessions comes from the attached hotel bar, which is a mess. Don't bother with the hotel restaurant if you're hungry or thirsty, and just grab a really overpriced soda and chips at the showplace instead. read more

Been here for many events over the past few years. Nice building with ample parking. Most parking is close to the showplace but if it is a crowded event then expect to have a far walk to the door. The room during the event in summer was freezing even with a jacket on so dress in layers so you are comfortable. The group had a southwest theme buffet with chicken fajitas, nachos, and key lime trifle. Food was good for a hall like this. Service was very good too as waiters were always clearing plates when finished. Note they are expanding at the time of this review (August 2018). read more

We attended a dance convention here and could not believe what a mess it was. All of the garbage cans were overflowing, with garbage piled on top and on the floors. The bathrooms were in much need of attention and out of paper towels. There was not one employee in sight to even ask for assistance. I actually walked around trying to find someone,..anyone. NO LUCK. We were there for four hours. Actually pretty shocked at how poorly managed the faculty was. read more

I've come here a lot over the years for a variety of different events. I remember when it was still the "Novi Expo Center" and still think of it as that in my mind. Even though it's under new ownership, it's still mostly the same to me in my eyes. Now, my memory is hazy of what it used to be before the new owners took oover, because I was living out of state for a very long time and didn't come here for about 10 years. BUT, it is a nice facility that hosts plenty of events (and even weddings) all the time. It's easy to spot from the expressway, and is easy to get to from either the Novi/12 oaks exit or the exit I prefer, the Beck Road exit. Since it's owned by Suburban Car Collection, they do have cars throughout the facility from one of their many dealerships throughout the city of Metro Detroit. fine. Advertising is on the walls inside as well, so be prepared. Nothing gawdy, but slightly self serving none the less. My only point of contention is, why do we need to pay a $5 parking fee? I find that silly and, well, stupid. Also, every time I've been here I pay admission to what ever event I'm attending, so you mean you don't get some sort of cut from that? Plus, you are owned by a car dealership company, so it's not like it's a company that doesn't have other sources of revenue. Also, bathrooms are available but sporatic. Kind of out of the way, especially in the showroom area. It's not a huge facility, but I guess if you don't require a lot of space (Cobo Hall for example) this is a perfect venue. Overall it's a nice place and I've never had a problem with it. Place seems to be clean, well kept, and in good working order. They host plenty of great shows, and you can see them on the billboard located outside of the venue from the freeway. Located a very short distance from the old Novi Expo Center, the Rock Financial Showplace is where many events are now held. In addition to the large, more sparse looking trade show areas, there are also ballroom sort of areas. I would imagine they book them for wedding receptions and the like. I have seen one of them when attending a sales training. Parking is kind of nuts every time I've been, and even if you have free passes to an event, it usually does not include parking. If I recall correctly, parking is usually around $5. read more

I've been here a few times, and for the most part is say it's fairly in order. Depending upon the event, it can become ridiculously filthy very quickly; BUT, that can't always be helped. Sometimes as soon as you clean something some Clown Fucker comes right behind you to make it messy yet again. So, that is why I knocked a star off. The bathrooms are ok, but not attended enough. Beyond that, the people working the food stations are pleasant and accommodating. There is a set of twin girls that always go above and beyond to make guests feel taken care. They always impress me. Attending industry trade shows is a big part of my job, and I've seen my fair share of event spaces and convention centers. Unfortunately, Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan didn't measure up to my expectations. There are a few positives about this smallish showplace. First, parking is plentiful, and for The Battery Show, they offered exhibitors a three-day conference parking pass for $7. (The daily parking rate was $5. Still a deal compared with other centers, like McCormick Place in Chicago or the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta.) Second, because it's smaller than most venues, walking the show floor and standing for hours on booth duty is a little easier on the back, legs, and feet. However, the conference services are weak, with limited restroom facilities and even more limited concession offerings. As someone with Celiac disease, I cannot eat anything containing gluten, or I get quite ill. None of the concession items available for purchase at Suburban Collection are gluten free. So I had to find off-site dining, or smuggle my own snacks into the place. The good news is there are quite a few restaurants nearby happy to accommodate out of town conference-goers. Another nit - the event wifi connection. It just did not work well with Apple devices. My company booth's iPad scanner couldn't access the wifi, and conference services wasn't able to resolve the issue until day two of the three day show. read more

Had a company wide kick-off meeting. While I didn't look forward to the drive from Ann Arbor, I have to say the traffic was smooth and got there in less than 45 minutes... There are two entrances to the parking area... When I arrived, I took the main entrance, which as traffic light.... Plenty of parking, parked towards the back of the building and walked to the entrance.... now, this is where the fun began :) From one side of the building, I had to walk all the way to the front of the building, to the main doors... then when i walked in, another group was already there in the main entrance areas... as I looked for a sign as to which room I should be going, none was found... so I head to the managers/customer service office and nobody was there too... so ended up going all the way to the main entrance by the hotel and that's where I found the signs as to where I should be going. I've been to lot of conferences and by far, this place had poor execution unfortunately... they should have had a sign by the main doors, where each group's events were and pointing the attendants to the right location. The main complain I have was the traffic leaving the conference center... I decided to take the other exit/entrance by the back of the building... while I knew it would take some time to leave, I spent 20 minutes leaving from the parking lot to the exit... not cool... and on top of that, the second entrance/exit does not have traffic light and sadly, once I made the right turn, had to wait further because of the road construction crew.... I just hope next time I'm here for a conference, the road construction will be complete and there will be a better traffic management when events end. read more

Went hare for a vegetarian fest, quite disappointed. What was funny that right next door they were having a gun & knife exhibition, how ironic is that?! I had the chance to visit here for Motor City Comic Con. This venue is perfect for this type of event. There is a ton of space inside and several parking options onsite and nearby. We opted to park on-site so we could leave and come back as often as we wanted. The staff were all very friendly and the shuttle drivers were a pleasure to talk with as well. While walking around I noticed there are plans to expand the showroom in 2018. It'll be great to see the changes coming to this venue in the future. read more

I've been going to Suburban for years for various events, and none have really been review worthy. I mean, "meh, it's a place where events are held"...what's really to review? Does it have walls? Is there a roof? Is there a parking lot? You review the show you go to there, not necessarily the place itself. But oooooooooooooh my did the events of this past weekend change my mind about that. The recent Motor City Comic Con was a debacle and a half, and a good chunk of that lands squarely on the head of the venue. - How do you have enormous swaths of a parking lot ripped up and blocked off when what is easily one of the biggest shows you have is about to happen? - How do you have a show that gets more than 10,000 people in a single day running with only two concession stands open? - How do you host events with tens of thousands of people at them, and yet not have it worked out with the city of Novi for better traffic flow patterns to be in effect so that people aren't sitting in their cars FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS TO GO TWO MILES in some cases?! - How do you NOT manage the people hosting events at your facility better so that they don't grossly oversell attendance? - How do you not react at any time during the entire day when all of this is going on by making changes and adjusting so that people aren't passing out in your parking lot while standing in lines for two hours in 90+ degree heat? As much as the organizers of Motor City Comic Con are complete tools in my eyes at this point, some of that rests on your heads as well, Suburban Showcase, and you justifiably deserve some of the backlash as well. read more

Been coming to this wonderful facility for many years. They have also made expansions and still under small construction. My most recent visit was the Michigan State Fair. It has been held here for the past 3 years now and we go every year. What I like about it is that its huge in the inside with lots of farm animals, some rides, food inside and out. The fair includes the Shrine Circus, which is awesome! Don't forget all the rides, games and delicious eats. Something for everyone. On to the conventions...this is the perfect location to hold a large business expo of some sort. We used to have a lot at Cobo, but it makes so much sense to have it here. The location has hotels in the area to accommodate, including the mall, restaurants and other strip malls. I'm sure you will be here soon for some sort of event. read more

This review is in reflection of a Lipari Food Show that my husband & I attended just yesterday & not necessarily an attack on the showplace itself. I'm not sure who organizes the trade shows at these showplaces nor what their restrictions/requirements are but if Suburban Collections was in charge of this event- their idiots! And if it was strictly Lipari staff then I shun them instead. I went to this event in hopes of finding gluten-free, organic, non-GMO, etc products for my current employer back in Ohio with very little success. For starters, Lipari held a private dinner for all the vendors and buyers,etc attending the show - the food was "meh", similar to that you'd have at a cheap wedding reception. Thank the gods for the cheese & cracker platter that was hidden in the corner; otherwise my husband & I would have starved.The redskin potatoes were cold, the beef brisket tough and drowning in a gross sauce and the desserts weren't labled at all either. However, the cheese platter wasn't labeled, so if you suffer from food allergies or what have you you're screwed. And if you wanted to purchase the sampled cheeses for your store you couldn't (they weren't featured at the show even though I thought the purpose of having this dinner was to introduce foods you could purchase through Lapari?). But what really annoyed us both is that you didn't receive the correct information to make navigating the showroom floor or placing orders until after the show! It clearly states in their pamphlet that you are not allowed to bring children or have strollers/carts yet the floor was littered with mothers and crying babies. Most of the vendors didn't actually sell the products but displayed them instead- supplying no samples at all or (like the fried chicken stand: showcasing chicken wings with signs in them stating: "For display purposes only") having food (especially the deli) that looked old as if it had sat out in the sun for far too long. There were no signs directing first comers to where to go or what to do, you had to pay to get in yet there was no one at the entrance to check if you actually had a badge or not so anyone could have walked right in. VERY few vendors had any nutritional information available- all I heard in response to requesting it is "I'll email it to you". Seriously! I could go on & on about how horrible the setup of the booths was too...not handicap accessible at all!!! In short- this was so not worth the 3 1/2 hr drive- ithe entire event was like going to Sam's Club on sample day. Only less room, less parking, more money & no satisfaction! read more

I only saw this place in the dark when I came to the "haunted kingdom" Halloween party. Place is huge and there were 3-4,000 people at this party. We all fit quite comfortably. Tables were set up all over, the dj's stage was over the top and girls were flying I front of him and above the dance floor. There were three bars set up including a VIP one with smaller lines. The pace was very clean coming in through the lobby area, and well decorated on the inside. read more

I attended Suburban Collection for the first time for a teacher's conference. It was quite large which provided me the opportunity to take lengthy bathroom breaks to escape the monotony of the speaker. The snacks and lunch provided were decent but I'm not sure if they were catered in or provided by the Collection itself. It seemed to be staffed by the people hosting the conference as opposed to Collection staff so I'm guessing the organization and friendliness of staff will depend on who hosts the event you are attended. I recently attended for the MI State Fair and the place was totally transformed from my conference experience. Staff at the fair were super nice and they let me 2 and half year old in for free even though 2 and up were supposed to have a charge. read more

Pretty decent venue for a large event. Nothing special, but nothing to complain about, either. If you're lucky they'll allow free parking for the event, but in general it's all about nickel and diming here- pay to park, pay to get in, pay for whatever's going on at the actual event, etc. I also agree with the person who said the bathrooms could use an update. read more

Today I helped setup an event at the Showcase and I must remark how helpful everyone was regarding set up and delivery. Having done something similar at another venue I didn't have the same experience my guess it has to do with it being a non-union shop. We could not have done what we had to do in the amount of time we had at another venue. Just giving a deserving nod where it's due. read more

This is THE STATE FAIR. Did you see that much advertisement? No!,!!!!!! The Royal Oak "Arts, Beats and Eats" does way more advertising. This is a problem because this is our State Fair. This year, again I went on Senior Day. Not much advertising on the fact that we get in "free". I spoke with a few other seniors who paid full price---they were mad. Also, where was any mention about veterans? Poor planning. The food has been a major disappointment. We have a lot of restaurants near by. Where were any? We would like better choices of food other than tjunk food. I will give Suburban Collection Showplace credit for how nice it was laid out. Since their new addition, everyone can get around much nicer. The food trucks were laid out in an orderly fashion. I normally go and speak with the farmers which is why I normally go to see the animals. There were chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, cows, pigs, hogs and a few horses. They're lacking in signs around the animals to inform you as to the breeds. When you don't inform, you miss out on enjoyment of the fair. Also, there is a great need of signs for the tables that show various objects that are judged and given ribbons. It look like a vast area without any idea of what the ribbons meant, age groups, categories or what they represent. This was major disrespect to the individuals to provided their entries. Next come the agriculture. No signs of any kind. How many people know the different varieties of vegetables? I cannot believe more effort is not put into these areas. My last remark goes to the "volunteers". They are no where to be found and when you do find some, they are normally just chatting among themselves and cannot provide any information. They do not have a clue. I think their only reason is to get in free. Please provide training before people arrive next time. read more
