While our recently moved into new home is natural gas, Suburban was nothing but helpful as we made the transition, helping us with tank removal and in settling our account.

Jessica from the company wanted photos and I sent it to them and they reached out again two days later asking for what exactly we needed done. However, that was the last I heard back from them. It was around Thanksgiving so I tried to be patient. I called 3 more times, each time repeating all my information to these people. They all said I should reach out to them and Jessica directly but I never heard back from her or any of the other employees. I gave up on this company and went with Heritage. I would go out of my way to discourage others from using this company. I do not even know the prices but if they can't ever schedule an appointment for you, what is even the point of knowing the pricing?

This past month, we had to use the burner and needed to refill our oil tank. When I called the office to explain our situation, the gentleman on the phone was very helpful. He informed me that since they had never supplied us with oil before, they would need to inspect the tank before filling it. I expected a sales pitch, but he never tried to sell me anything--just straightforward, professional service. I called on Monday, and the delivery arrived as scheduled--actually a bit early, which was great--on Wednesday morning. Paul, the delivery tech, was fantastic. He's a very affable guy and we chatted as he did a very thorough job inspecting not only the tank but also all the connections, up to and including the burner. I was impressed. From the initial phone call to the inspection and delivery, the entire experience was seamless and positive.

Like calling the IRS. Company taken over by a Mid Western conglomerate headed by one percenters sporting their MBA and investment fund management bona fides. All well and good. But service is not their thing. Money is. Fees fees fees and no one answers or calls back from "inside sales". There are other suppliers. Move on from this one unless you're using thousands of gallons a year. Residential accounts seem like a nuisance to them so they make it hard to discourage you.

I then had to call them back after they ignored me for 2 weeks to arrange the inspection. They gave me the window of time. I arranged the time off to be at the house. The window was 2:30 - 5:30 and they promised a call the night before to narrow the time. They didn't. I call them at 3:09 and was told I'd get a call back within minutes. 40 minutes later I called back. Was told I'd get a call back soon. This time they didn't lie. They forgotten about the appointment they'd set up and asked for another time. Although they were apologetic, they would come as promised. I had to compromise and take another day. If they show up within the window on Tuesday I'll take this review down. If not, I'll be upset.

After many years as a Pioneer customer, we recently canceled our service and decided to convert our…read moreproperty to natural gas. The biggest disappointment was the emergency service. During multiple no-heat calls in early January, I had to drive from Boston to Worcester in the middle of the night more than once because the on-call response did not resolve the issue. During one of those calls, the on-call technician told me he was asleep and wasn't coming out immediately, even after I explained that my elderly father-in-law was without heat. Another technician who was later sent restored the heat but was dismissive and unwilling to discuss the repeated problems. I was also surprised to learn that, despite paying for a service plan, the annual boiler maintenance had not been performed because it had not been scheduled. While Pioneer pointed to the terms of the agreement, I only became responsible for managing the property after my father-in-law was hospitalized and was unaware of the existing service contract. Another concern was the condition of the oil tank. Pioneer had serviced this property for years, yet the first documented recommendation to replace the tank came only after the legs were found to be rotting. I was left wondering whether signs of deterioration could have been identified and communicated earlier. I do want to recognize that Todd was professional and responsive throughout our communications. He took the time to answer my questions and explain the company's position. In the end, the combination of the emergency service experience, the maintenance issues, and concerns about the condition of the equipment led us to move on. We have canceled our service and are converting the building to natural gas.

I'd been a customer for 6 years and honestly never had issues with their customer service and reliability until the past year. They don't deliver on time with the automatic delivery program anymore and let customers get well below 25% and empty. My tank is below 25% for the first time ever and when I asked for delivery status I'm lied to and told it's coming on x day. The day passes and they don't come. I called their 24/7 line because I'm now nearing empty and was told unless I'm empty to call back during business hours. Wait until empty for oil is just an illogically dumb response. Everybody should look elsewhere for oil and propane whether you are an existing customer or new. They are a sinking ship.

Yikes! I called McDonalds and spoke with Ryan who was to my great relief delightfully friendly and reassuring. All this was very appreciated and provided peace of mind. Superb customer service! I am now a customer for life!

I had a specialized HVAC system custom designed and installed by RJ. McDonald in Barre, MA in 2023…read moreat a cost over $18,000. Overall, I was satisfied with the installation, aside from a few configuration changes they made that didn't match how my previous system's backup switch operated. While it took some getting used to, it wasn't a major issue, and I was otherwise happy with the system. Last night, my system developed what appeared to be a minor ignition issue. I called the company's after-hours service line and left a message. Robin, the on-call representative, returned my call promptly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the conversation quickly became disappointing. Before I could fully explain the problem, I was interrupted and told that the company showed I had not purchased propane from them within the past year. I was then informed that, despite spending thousands of dollars on a custom system they designed and installed, they would not service it unless I was buying propane from them. What was most frustrating was not just the policy itself, but the way it was communicated. The tone came across as annoyed and condescending, making me feel like my business and prior investment meant very little. When you spend over $18,000 with a company for a specialized heating system, you reasonably expect that they will at least provide service or support when an issue arises. If this is RJ. McDonald's policy, it should be made very clear before customers invest in one of their systems. I understand businesses can prioritize customers in different ways, but refusing to service equipment they installed simply because I purchase propane elsewhere is disappointing and, in my opinion, poor customer service. Based on this experience, I would encourage anyone considering a custom HVAC installation to ask detailed questions about future service policies before signing a contract.

However, office manager Tom is HORRIBLE and severely lacking and people skills and management skills. He offered a specific delivery time for the mulch, spaced out on the delivery date and delivered the mulch 3 hours late while my landscaper was twiddling his thumbs waiting. When I asked for a discount off of my mulch because I had to pay my landscaper to wait, Tom said he didn't have any indication on his paperwork of the delivery time (really?? - he told me the time which I then told my landscaper) and he didn't have the authority to discount my delivery. When I asked to speak to a manager or owner who could address this, Tom said he would give them a message. 2 phone calls and 2 weeks later, still no return call from someone in a position of authority, so today when I phoned again and told Tom the "leave a message" approach wasn't going to work again -- that if I needed to get someone's attention by posting a negative review on social media -- Tom told me to GET GOD IN MY LIFE and hung up on me. When I called back thinking I might have just dropped the cell phone call, Tom refused to answer the phone, and then when he did answer, he told me he was filing a HARASSMENT COMPLAINT with the local police department. WTF??? If there was a way to give a -5 rating, I would have done that. Even a 0 would have been more appropriate than a seemingly generous 1. What an absolutely horrible experience! Zecco Brothers had absolutely NO PROBLEM CHARGING MY CARD promptly for my mulch but getting some money retuned for a missed delivery window and added out of pocket costs is impossible. Shame on Tom for his poor handling & his inaptitude - he probably never gave the owner my message because he was covering his own butt. And shame on any business for addressing a legitimate business complaint by pushing religion on me and telling me to get God and my life. And shame on management for allowing Tom's employment to continue.
