OK, so this is confusing - there are 2 pages on Yelp that are for The Dez, and there are indeed two…read morelocations, but it seems like people are just reviewing wherever they are reviewing for either location (they are like, steps from each other). ANYWAY. We have been here a couple of times - will usually stop by here when we're in Joshua Tree. On Saturdays, there is a Farmer's Market in the parking lot, so it gets pretty crowded. This last time we went, I got an iced strawberry matcha, and my partner got the chai iced tea. Both with almond milk. They still charge a surplus for non-dairy, which feels so 2022. But anyway. The drinks were delicious. We also got an almond croissant, which doesn't look like much, but it was AMAZING. And then the quiches. Oh, the quiches. I had such high hopes for these, especially since we were primed with refreshing drinks and a tasty pastry. These quiches are muffin-sized, perfect for a light meal or a heavier snack, and they look super cute. They will heat them up for you. When we went, they had bacon cheddar and spinach feta. We got one of each. My friends, these were so disappointing. First, no flavor. We asked for ketchup or hot sauce to give it a bit of acid, because it was basically egg all the way through. Solid wall of egg that tasted like the powdered egg you get at one of those corporate conference catered breakfasts. I had one tiny sliver of bacon in mine, and my partner was playing hide and seek with the spinach, and the spinach was winning. The crust itself was rubbery and chewy, not flaky like I would expect a quiche to be. I mean, it was palatable and not super expensive. I'm just not sure if you're selling food, you want it to just be "palatable". Last time, we got a savory veggie pie, and that was pretty good, so they DO have good savory foods. I think the quiches were just a huge miss this time. Bathroom is clean and single-stalled. Parking is easy in the lot, and on Farmer's Market days, I mean, c'mon, it's Joshua Tree, it's not like there isn't space on the streets too.

My husband and I's coffee was all wrong. We ordered Carmel lattes hot. We received an iced Carmel latte and a vanilla latte iced. We didn't make a fuss, we just took what we didn't order and my husband actually ordered the coffee he wanted and paid again. It's a small business and we support small businesses. My honest issue was the barista with the green shirt making the coffee. I'm not sure if her face is always flat or if it was just our family but both days she was so flat and had that ok hurry up and take this stuff and go face. Like annoyed face. We were kind, my kids weren't rude or anything. The other staff seemed kind though. What bothered me was in the second day when the coffees were made wrong, no one offered to remake them for free. Or apologize for the mistakes. We don't live in JT and I don't hate the place. I would come back for breakfast items for sure, shouts out to the chefs in the kitchen. Additionally they sell various hot and cold drinks, organic JT coffee beans that they'll grind for you, salty and sweet snacks, California dates and roadrunner t-shirts. Prices are not cheap but comparable to other similar places and Starbucks. We appreciated the friendly staff. The breakfast sandwich was delicious, though it did take a bit to make.

Again, no communication. Now, I don't need to have a full conversation with every person on staff. But the overall customer service isn't inviting or very present here. Not for everyone, anyway. So even though the sandwiches, salad, and cookies are tasty, I can't honestly recommend this place. His scrambled eggs were also filled with potatoes, and the overall meal was just as disappointing. The food lacked flavor and wasn't satisfying at all. The yogurt parfait was small but mighty, layered with berries and granola and substantial enough to feel like breakfast.
