We went this Sunday about 4pm and they told us they were out of cucumbers, spinach and lettuce. I was shocked. Lettuce? They could have easily ran to Malama market and get some lettuce for their customers. I mean lettuce is one of the major part of a sandwich so we were shocked to here that they ran out and like it was no big deal. I was told by family that they never have lettuce too a week prior. Terrible! There is no excuse for it. Just order more produce before the weekend. Simple. Pahoa branch is the ghetto Subway on the Big Island. It's subway, so I'm not comparing it to other sandwiches, that just wouldn't be fair. I'll admit, it's not close the best sandwich I've had but for a subway it's pretty good. Lettuce was a bit old and being that we are far from the mainland, spinach is a rare and expensive extravagance... they were sadly out. Both members of the staff were masked and washed their hands between each customer. Pre covid, I'd regularly have to ask my sandwich builder to wash their hands after handling cash, so it was nice to see that hand washing is a common practice at this location. They took care when folding over the sandwich and cutting it, which of you've eaten subway, know how much this can make of break you sandwich eating experience. It's a Subway, what can I say. The food is about the same at most any Subway. But, the staff can really make a huge difference. The staff here isn't friendly at all. Some barely communicate. I understand that minimum wage sucks, but if you can't even smile, you may stay at minimum wage. Anyway, most places in Pāhoa are overpriced for a quick lunch and then a tip on top of that. I think the prices at this Subway are the same as the mainland. Cheapest sandwich in town. But, if you are just on island for a visit, eat local food. read more

A few days ago I went Subway Pahoa and a fat white guy in a mean tone ordered me to 'sir, put ur'e mask on'! I pulled my mask back over my nose and he ordered me again, 'sir, put ur'e mask on'! I asked him 'is the world going to end if my mask was'nt over my nose for few seconds, are you God, Jesus, Mother Teresa, Ghandi'? He again ordered me, 'put ur'e mask on'! I said to the fat employee, why don't you answer my question, what ur'e level of education? He again ordered me to put my mask on. I walked out and said I will complain to president of Subway and you're Pahoa location lost $10.45 and I won't be back to Pahoa Subway, he had no reply. I have Bachelor's degree Univ. Came out to Pahoa for Labor Day & decided on Subway for lunch (I was a little scared because of the reviewer that said they got food poisoning from here :x) But anyways, we got fast service and I enjoyed my sandwich. I got a turkey bacon avocado sub since I always see the commercial about it on TV lol. The only thing is that the avocado is in a little squeeze packet, and it's kind of unappealing to watch them squeeze it out like toothpaste and slather in on the sandwich haha... you know it's not really "fresh" avocado. I go to Subway only a few times a year, because I have a husband and 3 daughters to feed, and it can be expensive. But when I do, it is at the Pahoa location. They are generous with the meat and the veggies, and do a great job. There is one guy who is a smart ass, and doesn't do well, but he is not normally there when I go. I would like to mention my favorite sandwich maker. His name is Wes. He makes the best BMT ever..it is his specialty. But more than that, listens to his customers, and gives them amazing food. Subway in general is a great place to eat but the staff at this location needs to learn to greet and communicate with their customers. I walked in into a empty restaurant, no one greeted me, no one asked if I was ready to order, they just stared at me for a few minutes until I told them I was ready to order. I don't know what the hiring process or requirement is, but I'm pretty sure they require some customer service skills. I guess I'm not the only who feels that way. I am totally disgusted with the Subway In Pahoa, Hawaii. I ordered over 30 dollars of meals around lunch time on a very busy day at work. I rushed to Subway to get my order (already paid for), and when I got back to work, I realized they screwed up my whole order. My first meal cost about 11 bucks, and I did not get bacon I order, nor did I get my chips for my meal. My second meal was missing the double meat, and did not have the bacon also. My third meal did not have the chips and was cold, even though I asked for them all the be hot sandwiches. The only thing they had right was the drinks. I called immediately once I realized they screwed up so badly. The assistant manager first asked what was wrong with the order. I was very detailed on what was wrong. She said, our policy is that you have the bring the sandwiches back. I said I would not be off for another 4 hours. She said, "you know what, never mind"... I have the order printed and we will just replace the order. I worked the other 4 hours and then went in to retrieve the meals and the night manager said he could not help me without giving back the other meals. I told him what the assistant manager told me, so he called her. She then lied to him and said, she told me to bring the sandwiches back and she never said she would replace them. I am so applauded! This is NOT what was said! I am a great customer. I used this establishment at least once a week, but this TOTALLY disgusts me! I then asked to speak to the corporate manager for this location. They refused to me me a number. I then asked for the number to talk to the local owner, again I was refused. So basically - I spent over 30 bucks for crap I did not receive. How's that - I guess that is how they treat loyal customers - they lie, they cheat you out of money - then they refuse to honor what they say! SOOOO disgusted! read more
