Food is plain diner Italian and Tex-Mex. They serve chips as starters. Portions are large but the quality is average. Their kiddie menu is enough for less hungry and many items are large enough to be shared for two. I had their steak fajitas. It was seriously over cooked and I didn't finish. Most peeps enjoyed their meal who ordered Italian. Hard pass on fajitas next time. ++. Service is prompt and friendly. +. Price is average. +. Parking is a private lot This is a convenient centrally located resto for bland sustenance and a small group meet.

Established in a repurposed fast-food building, Caffe de Olla is undeniably a restaurant where people sit in chairs and are served food. The plants are fake; the waiters are all courteous, rushed, and hispanic; each glass of water is served with a lemon slice; overhead speakers play quiet music and loud advertisements. The menu makes a good attempt at offering as many dishes as possible with the as few unique ingredients as possible. It is a forced trifecta of american-italian, american-mexican, and american-american cuisines. Only a few narrow beams of culinary light break through the lowest-common-denominator haze. I ordered the {I can't remember the name}, which was a sort of tex-mex stir-fry of meat, zucchini, mushrooms, and, of course, nacho cheese. It wasn't delicious, but it was slightly daring.

I can imagine you may need to walk a bit depending on how busy the downtown area is, but that would be true for any business in the area. The ordering counter is right in front as you walk in with all seating on the left. Once you place your order they assign you to a table and will bring out your food when ready. We did not realize we entered 15 minutes before they closed. We were originally going to eat there but when we said we would change our order to to-go, they said it was not necessary and we could eat there. They did take down the outside signs soon after we sat down, but we were not the last person entering to place an order. There were also a few others eating inside, so they were more than accommodating to their customers. The Cuban sandwich and NY-style hot dog came out in about five minutes. The Cuban was a bit on the small side but did have a nice amount of ham. The large amount of pickles drowned out the majority of other flavors but the overall the sandwich was good. The NY-style hot dog was a major disappointment. The hot dog itself seemed to have been sitting in the warmer for quite a while as it looked dehydrated and wrinkly. It was chewy with an almost crispy casing. The hot dog did fit the bun but was overwhelmed by the sauerkraut and mustard. Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not live up to the friendliness and accommodation of the staff.

No matter what review site you consult, it seems like High Test Deli consistently receives high marks. After seeing the line out the door on a few occasions I decided to check it out for myself. My husband and I got two sandwiches - one for now, and one for later and I am really glad we did! We enjoyed a hot Italian sandwich at the deli and then we took a cold club sandwich with us to enjoy later while we were touring around the National Park. While we were dining inside of the deli we noticed many diners calling in their to-go orders and coming in for "frozen sandwiches" - aka ice cream sandwiches. Both of those ideas seemed like good ones! High Test is actually known for their frozen sandwiches so I am sorry I didn't leave room to give one a try - next time. I loved seeing how happy everyone was at this deli whether they were working, eating or getting a to go order. Eating at High Test Deli was definitely one of my best experiences in Bryson City. Next time I am in Bryson City I will definitely be back to High Test to try more menu items and especially some ice cream sandwiches.
