first off the hours here are wrong. they shut the kitchen down at 6:30pm. think they open @ 10 am. wasn't at all impressed with the perch lunch dinner. 3 small pcs. of fish, handfull of under cooked french fries, tablespoon of some nasty chopped coleslaw and only get a teaspoon of tarter. not worth $9. only highlight was in my change they gave me a 1964 silver quarter worth $5.48. I knew as soon as that quarter hit the nickel and penny it was silver and no copper band on the edge. the other fish in the cooler/freezer looks nice, I just hate cooking fish. read more

Half market, half restaurant, this place is amazing! Ordered a catfish dinner with fries and coleslaw all for $9 and I never had catfish that good. It was freshly made and the crispy breading was just right. The fries tasted really similar to McDonalds. They also make a delicious King Crab Bisque as well. My favorite lunch spot. I've been coming here for a few months since I work across the street. Every time I had a vendor come into the office they always raved about that place so one day I decided to check it out. It's not your typical restaurant, it's a place where you buy seafood that happens to have a grill. I am truly in love with this place, they food is great, the staff is very friendly, they even gave me tips on how to cook the fish I bought there that turned out great! I love this place. I've been buying seafood from John for about 12 years now. The crab cakes are very good--check them out in the freezer section. The tuna is so fresh that you can make sushi from it yourself and I recommend giving it a try! I've also cured my own wild-caught salmon and made lox. John will take good care of you! Tried this place based on the reviews off Yelp and glad i did! I needed to get some crayfish tail meat for a cajun meal I was planning and was pretty impressed with this place. They have a nice selection of fresh water fish and salt water fish and seafood. The staff were very helpfull and the prices were inline with a grocery store but you get a better quality product. Als, they offer cooked food here as well for carry-out. They also have a small selection of seafood spices, recipes and the staff can suggest great ways to cook just about any fish they sell. *Singing* I love their fishes, cuz they're so delicious...Corny I know. The Jumbo fried shrimp at this place is AMAZING. They are fried fresh, while you wait and you will want to eat the whole bag on the drive home. Do yourself a favor and ask for some of their remoulade to dip your shrimp into, although the homemade cocktail sauce is really good too. Just found this little gem of a seafood shop a few weeks ago. Being from Florida where seafood is quite abundant, I was impressed to find such a great selection of fresh and never frozen items to choose from. We took home a nice piece of Walleye and some homemade crab cakes, delicious! We were talking with the owner and learned that they take special requests for seafood. I was a bit underwhelmed walking in based upon the reviews I read here, but I thought I would give it a serious try. The only reason this gets 2 stars versus 1 is that the fresh Tuna was actually pretty good. Aside from that, the mussels in the display were all open or cracked (I hope they weren't sold to anybody!). I did buy a dozen oysters of which only 5 of them were good when I shucked them a few hours later. The guy that helped us was really nice and friendly, but that in itself will probably not get me to go back. read more

Grouper sandwich was excellent. Took home some andouille sausage for jambalaya that was authentic and delicious. The place needs a little work, cleaning up, to be a sit down restaurant but the owner was engaging and friendly and I am going back again to try the shrimp - and everything else! read more

Fried Shrimp is pretty good, from the breading to the shrimp to the cocktail sauce. Probably not as food as Dicola's, Wagner's, or Heinie McCarthy's with bbq sauce but 1 pound is 13 pieces. read more

I love this place, best shrimp ever! The owner is so friendly, and always helpful. I guess I should buy something else to try, but I just can't pass up the shrimp. I buy a bag of frozen 25-30m size and it seems a crime to do anything other than brush a little olive oil on it, sprinkle some old bay, and grill to perfection. Anything stronger than a light beer batter would cover up the buttery flavor of the shrimp. I have never eaten there but I have no doubt that anything you get will be fresh and delicious. The seafood is FRESH! The gentleman who works there is extremely nice. I watched how he was able to take care of each customer even when it was busy. This is a seafood market but you can also get your food cooked to eat there or for takeout. I chose to have my meal cooked and it was OH SO GOOD! Amazingly fresh, highest quality seafood around! I usually get Ahi tuna, salmon or sea bass. Very helpful staff! Have not tried any frozen items or shellfish yet. I'm not usually a fan of seafood soups or chowders but John was making a seafood bisque and offered a sample and OMG. Delicious! We love the freshmade crab cakes (the ones in the freezer are OK), but order ahead to avoid being dissappointed. We get our wild caught salmon here and love it, when it is in season. Remember wild caught is environmentally friendlier and is healthier than farm raised Atlantic salmon. We do eat here and often order seafood ahead. read more

I have visited this place on and off for years. This is basically a retail seafood store. With regard to thier little restaurant grill, it is a hole in the wall where they will grill you up some of their products at a make shift bar. You want to take a date out for linen table cloths and atmosphere, go down to Catch 35 down the street and pay $ 100 - $ 150 for lunch. And, yeah, when I take my wife out I generally take her out for seafood to Catch 35 or Chinns (34th Street) for the ambiance and because their food is really good too. She likes the show. Both Catch 35 and Chinns are top shelf seafood joints. But when I just plain want to eat some good seafood (at a realistic price), without the fru-fru nonsense, I take a drive to this joint. You want some good seafood from knowledgeable fish mongers, stop here for lunch. Reminds me of many of the joints I hit in Florida and in Maine. All my favorite fish joints are like this place. They are about the food and conversation, not fancy decorating. I worked in the restaurant business for many years. I hate not seeing the preparation of my food. At this joint, they prepare it right in front of you and you tell them what you want and how you want the dish made. However, my favorite part about them making me lunch is that I have them as my captive audience. Being a bit of a foodie, I am not embarrassed to admit that I barage them with non-stop cross examination about their seafood, their recipes, suggestions, and just about any other thing that comes to my mind. I have always had a deep respect for any proprietor that takes great pride in his/her profession - and these guys do. I could sit and talk to these guys for hours upon hours because they really do know what they are doing, and the conversations alone are worth ten times more than the price of any meal. If you like seafood and good conversation, hit these guys up and make sure to get them behind the grille and cross-examine them mercilessly. I think you will enjoy the food and the conversation. You will probably learn a lot more about seafood in an hour or two than you can possible imagine. read more
