We usually ask for the sour cream on the side as opposed to on top of the omelet. My parents said the coffee was really good. Great array of hot sauces to choose from as well. I even asked for extra aioli, hoping it would help, but the tacos were still nearly inedible. I ate less than half of one taco. What was most disappointing was that no one acknowledged it. When my plate was cleared with almost the entire meal untouched, no one asked if anything was wrong. I didn't want to make a scene during a birthday dinner with friends, but I also don't think I should have had to pay for a meal that was barely edible. Dessert sounded much more exciting than it actually was. The chocolate brownie was dry, the "Cows in Quicksand" dessert looked unappetizing, the cookies were hard, and the champagne mangoes were underripe. We still had a fabulous evening celebrating with friends, but the dining experience itself fell well short of expectations. Between the uncomfortable heat and the disappointing food, this wasn't the memorable return visit I'd been looking forward to. I said as much, was met with attitude, stepped out to keep the peace, came back in with documentation anyway (which I didn't legally owe him), and got a passive-aggressive "well you could've shown me that at the beginning" -- followed by a genuinely bizarre stare-down over the counter. Charming. Then, while waiting on my order, I made the mistake of taking a video of the (admittedly cute) interior -- 100-year-old diner car, hard not to want a keepsake -- and got yelled at for filming, with a pointed accusation that my brother outside was "also filming," said like it was a crime. Meanwhile this place has an active social media presence built on customers doing exactly that. You can't crowdsource your Instagram content and then treat a phone camera like a weapon. Oh, and the hot dog itself: $5 for a boiled dog on white bread, no toasting, no char, nothing. A sad little snack to cap off a genuinely unpleasant interaction. The building has real history. The guy behind the counter does not deserve it.

It used to be a memorable experience going to Fres with family. I grew up coming here, and it was always comfortable, welcoming, and full of charm. Unfortunately, over the past year it has become unrecognizable. Most of the booths -- which gave Fres so much of its warmth and character -- are gone, leaving the space feeling empty and cold. The food quality has also declined drastically. What was once a standout breakfast spot now feels comparable to iHop, but at nearly triple the price. We've kept coming back hoping to recapture the experience we loved, but this was the last try. The bacon was overwhelmingly salty, the juice tasted off, and the fruit was poor quality. To make matters worse, I watched a cook pick up food with bare hands and eat it, which was extremely off-putting. The staff has always been lovely, which makes this even more disappointing. We truly wanted Fres to be what it once was -- but sadly, it no longer is. read more

My brother and I went to FresCafe today. We had an amazing experience, the staff was very friendly and the cool thing was my brother wanted to create his own omelet and he was able to. He said it was the best omelet he ever had. I got the tuna melt and it was delicious. It's the only place near me where I can get a tuna melt on chalah bread and I love my chalah bread. I would highly recommend FresCafe, the food is delicious and everyone there is extremely friendly. The owner, Pabla, always welcomes me when I come in too and it feels good to feel welcome. This drink tasted like what might have been used was some sort of strawberry juice concentrate or sweetened strawberries - like the ones that you'd use to top shortcake or an ice cream sundae. I detected no banana flavor at all. I had to dump the smoothie once I got to my location. Since I don't go to Sudbury very often, I will likely not be back and would not likely recommend their smoothies. Maybe I should've stuck with coffee- it was in the name after all.
