Oh heaven help me that price tag. Ouch! DX…read more We were at a nearby events with friends who were hungry, so we debated where to eat and landed here cuz a sub sounded good to us all. I really wasn't prepared to spend $15 on a single sandwich though. Listen, everything about this place was fine. Including the sandwich itself (I got the Adult Club cuz I love me some chicken salad, but I should've asked to have the bread toasted... it really wasn't all that sourdoughy in taste either??). I just can't quite get over the amount it cost. Which I guess might be why there aren't any prices listed on the menu signs. Like, my hubbie and I DIDN'T get drinks or chips or a side or dessert. None of that. Just a sandwich for the each of us and it was $30. If we had added stuff, I bet we'd've run the bill up to $50 in no time. For lunch! Gotta be trippin'! I like supporting small local business when I can but I think this place isn't in my budget. Sorry. :( But the employees were nice, the ambiance was cool, the tables were clean, large selection of drinks, very tempting looking desserts, even ice cream, and a community board. If money isn't a concern that factors into your decisions, absolutely patronize this joint. I'll just be jealous.

Not too heavy mayo or mustard, eggs, soft potatoes with a little chew (perfectly cooked) and red bell pepper. The sandwich was great. Freshly baked bread that was soft. The chicken salad was really good. Again, a great balance of mayo, not too much. They use shredded chicken which is the way it should be done. Some different options for toppings that you don't get from those other sub chains. A great lunch. I'll be ordering again.

I read about Clancey's and we decided to give it a try for lunch. There are two parts to…read moreClancey's. On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

At lunch,…read morethere can be a mad rush for their classic roast beef sandwich, but the staff handles the crowd with efficiency and detail. I was on the street in front of Clancy's when one of their customers was mis-identified as an officer of an organization that was terrorizing Minneapolis. It had nothing to do with Clancy's! As I tried to get to my car, people yelled the most obscene and disgusting epitaphs at the couple in front of me. I was just walking down Grand Avenue. They were even spitting at this innocent individual. As a liberal who marched for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s, I was horrified. Blaming Clancy's is ignorant, and an integral part of how this country is dismantling. Clancy's Meats & Fish is important to our neighborhood, and represents the kindness and empathy that has been representative of Minnesota for decades. Give them your support.

We got takeout on this occasion which was slick, albeit a bit tricky due to parking in the linden hills area by this restaurant. I got the turkey in the hills sandwich and the tomato soup. Both of these were hits and were a good amount of food too. My mom got the same sandwich with the chicken wild rice soup which wasn't as much of a hit as the tomato but was still decent and then my sister got a veg sandwich with the tomato soup. Overall I like the lunch special and think it could be perfect with a sandwich and salad on a summer day

SPACE There are a few 4-tops on the patio in front, a handful of bar seats inside with a small, cozy indoor table footprint, and a handful of 2-3 tops on the back alley. SERVICE The bartender told us to go find a spot on the back alley, so we did - but not sure we did things right, as our server walked past us a few times without acknowledging us. Service was friendly but limited. DRINKS They had a nice cocktail menu, but I opted for an Aperol Spritz. My husband chose off their limited NA menu a lavender honey lemonade, and it was a bit too sweet for him. I'd love to see some mocktail options here! FOOD We just got a few shareables since we were heading to dinner after, but their sandwiches were making my husband's mouth water! We got: Pickle Brined Wings - amazing flavor, salty and dilly, but I would have liked quite a bit more char on them: they were pretty pale. Minnesota Sushi - my husband loved this! Served with Ritz crackers, and it's the perfect little shareable dip.

Even when it's packed, service is quick, efficient, and genuinely friendly, which is impressive given the crowds. They have an incredible selection with lots of rotating flavors, so there's always something new to try. Their croissants and Kouign Amann are absolute standouts. Flaky, buttery, and perfectly executed. The lattes are also delicious and pair perfectly with the pastries. They offer pre packed goodies as well, which are great for grab and go treats or bringing something home. The space itself is bright and welcoming with large windows and natural light, multiple seating options, and a small outdoor seating area when the weather is nice. If you love high quality pastries, Black Walnut is a must. Worth the wait and worth the early alarm.

The space is about the same and they packed a bunch of tables inside so it is kind of stuffy but that's MN winter life. We got the raspberry passionfruit kouign amann, raspberry cardamom frangipane bostock, almond croissant, banana chocolate croissant and the bear claw. Also ordered a cappuccino, latte, cortado and black coffee to drink. Drinks came out pretty fast and were decent but nothing to write home about. The pastries were delish. The croissants were super hefty in size and very filled which was nice and definitely worth the price. My kouign amann in comparison was really small and at almost the same price I would say was a kinda overpriced. But they texture was light and crunchy and I really enjoyed the jam inside. Bostock was dense in a good way with a layer of jam and then frangipane. You could really taste the cardamom too. Bear claw was croissant that they filled with almond, raspberry and cream cheese. Flavors were also good in that.
