The beers are in German style, a more unique offering among other local breweries. Pints are about $5 DEFINITELY unique nowadays! As a distillery they produce all the standards with a creative cocktail menu. With a full bar, Sugar Hill Distillery offers a lot more than most. We were excited to give the distillery a try, I'd say it's a solid choice if you just want a casual meal/drink. Friday Eve and it wasn't very crowded. Parking was easy and there's lots to do/see in the vicinity. I had the special- low country boil which was good and came with a good portion size. My husband had the Reuben which he said was good as well. The beer pretzel appetizer was huge! The service could be improved, she left out dirty dishes in front of us and never asked if we wanted another drink even though we sat there talking for over an hour. read more

The Distillery has reopened as of 12/18/24 following a few weeks of closure at the end of November. The interior and ambiance remains familiar. The menu has been revamped (same for lunch and dinner) with more of a "tavern" offering - burgers, chicken fingers, salads - though with a few carryover items of Jumbo Pretzel, Cheese Curds, and Keri's Reuben. The pretzel is still jumbo, hot, and delicious with beer cheese and spicy mustard. The chicken fingers are 4 massive pieces that could feed two people. The service here at Sugar Hill Distillery was very good! Max, our bartender was amazing, friendly, and very knowledgeable when it came to the beers that were brewed and served at this establishment. The food had a German flare, and was very good. We suggest the flight of beer so that you can sample four different beers during your meal. There was karaoke in the back garden... Run, don't walk to Sugar Hill Distillery! Somewhat new to Georgia and exploring wineries (in GA?), Distilleries, and Breweries is what's what. :) This was a bit of a drive but man 'o man was it worth it! Granted we went on a Sunday afternoon, so there was plenty of parking in the private lot, and there were plenty of tables. Staff was friendly, helpful, and while it wasn't crowded, they took their time to explain the lay of the land for the newbies. If I see cheese curds on a menu, might as well bring them out as soon as I walk in the door. Not a popular item where I'm from. These were as good as I've ever had, and who in their right mind would pair them with raspberry chipotle sauce? Sugar Hill Distillery would, that's who! Brilliant! Who knew!? Ordered and split the Rueben sandwich, which was absolutely, unequivocally divine! Mounds of corned beef, generous amount of tasty thousand island dressing all held together by the best perfectly flavorful bread I've ever had the pleasure of holding all that goodness together. Trust me, it's a generous size portion, and worth every bite! But wait, there's more . . . yes, you though it couldn't get any better, did you? IT DOES!! It's my advice, get the onion rings instead of the fries, and do yourself a favor and order and extra side of onion rings. Worth the trip, worth the pangs of a little overdoing it on the food! My husband and I were in the mood for something, but it was closed today, so he started searching the area online for something and stumbled upon this place. The place is super cute, great little shop in front, and nice family style seating for the restaurant like typical German Biergartens. We started with pretzel bites that come with beer cheese, and my husband got a beer flyte. I personally don't care for the pretzel bites because they look like the same kind you get at Kroger, but deep fried, however I really like the beer cheese that has green onions and bacon on top. It's not thick and gluey like most places. Next time we will try big pretzel! Since we're here at lunchtime, I chose the Grown Up Grilled Cheese Sandwich (smoked Gouda, prosciutto. tomato on herbed Texas toast) and he got Dopple Schwein (pork cutlet, bacon, cheese, spring mix & pickled onion on Texas toast). Both were very nicely done, but I asked for mustard because it had very little prosciutto and needed something. My husband said if more places served pork cutlets done that nicely, he would eat it a lot...definitely will order again. The fries are not crispy and they look heavily seasoned, but they're not spicy; they're pretty good. The pickles are wonderful! They brew their own beer and also have their own distillery on property. They have an outside seating area as well and looks to be pet friendly. I'm proud of this family for starting their own restaurant and diving off into the craft beer world. Kudos to them, that's a leap. We came here to have a few beers and decide where to move on from there, so our food selections were munchies and a couple of beers. All around our visit was okay. Our beers were cold and the favors were decent. They aren't really carving a path and blazing trails with what they brew. Their menu and what I saw coming out of the kitchen looked okay. I overheard the owner introduce the new cook to a group of guys, so hopefully the menu improves and settles into some flavor and depth. Our app picks and the two sauces were lacking in salt, which I realize is a preference, but without it flavors are void and food is lacking. After adding a little bit of salt and pepper to them, they were much better. Service was mainly focused at the bar, where the most patrons where sitting. Those of us that were at the long tables, or the side tables were kinda left to fend for ourselves and at times, totally forgotten. Which was fine, we were basically just chatting about the weekend ahead and enjoying our adult time, but we probably would have stayed and consumed more beer and food, had we gotten a little better service and hadn't gone two long stretches without refills. So the girlfriend and I stopped in and had a late lunch. I heard about this place, so we wanted to check it out. We were a little nervous when we pulled up because the parking lot was almost empty. However, it was nearly 3:00 pm, so we assumed we were in the lull between lunch and dinner. Anywho we entered, another couple was having a late lunch as well. We stepped forward towards the reception area, and we met Ann Marie. She was the hostess, waitress, bartender, food runner, and everything else that needed to be done. With that being said, she still provided excellent service. I know there were only four of us in the establishment, but we certainly appreciated her efforts. Of course, you cant visit a distillery without having a drink. The girlfriend had "The Georgia Peach," and I had "The Colonial." I apologize as I forgot to write down what was in the drinks. I do know, however, "The Colonial" has their GIN in it. I admit I'm a Hendricks man, and this was pretty good so much that we purchased a bottle to take home. (Side note: we also bought some Vodka, too!~ Don't judge us! ) Now on to the food, since it was a late lunch, we ordered appetizers which were the Flieten Chicken and fries and the Giant Riesenbrezel (pretzel). The chicken was excellent and what the menu doesn't tell you is that the fries are homemade, and they were absolutely fantastic. The Riesenbrezel was warm, soft, and had just the right amount of salt, but what made this appetizer was the sauces that accompanied this dish. There is the typical spicy mustard, honey mustard, and this beer cheese mustard which was my favorite. The place is very spacious with an outdoor seating area which is perfect now that we are approaching spring. They also have live music outside, which I assume is on the weekends. They also sell a lot of merchandise. We enjoyed looking through their store. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We are looking forward to visiting again to experience dinner and some live music. If you are looking for something different and unique with a German Twist, I highly recommend giving them a try. What a great addition to the area! My husband recommended this spot for dinner one night when we had a sitter, and I agreed to give it a shot even though it didn't have many photos or reviews on Yelp yet. I am so glad we tried it - it's a new favorite spot for us. The Distillery has ample parking in a private lot - an important perk in the area. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Although we sat indoors, we noticed they had heat lamps and live music outside. Inside, they had communal and private tables. On the night we went, baseball games were playing on the TVs, and the place was full, but there was no wait. For dinner, my husband tried a beer flight, while I ordered a soda. And we started the night with the poutine. So far, this dish is my absolute favorite. Fries covered in cheese curds, bacon and gravy? Sign me up! Salty, gooey and absolutely incredible. My husband had a reuben and a cup of beer cheese soup. Both were fantastic, but I have a soft spot for beer cheese anything. It was great - the beer tasted strong and full and was well balanced with the cheese. Perfect cold weather food. I came on a night where they had a special - trout, spaetzle, and asparagus. It was all excellent. Something nice and light after all the beer, cheese, and fries. We ended by splitting a slice of chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. We only ate about half of it that night, but it was just as tasty the next day when I finished it (all by myself). This morning, we decided to stop in for an early lunch and were absolutely delighted to find out that they served breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. We (of course) started with the poutine, and I can confirm that it is still my favorite. Then, we all shared a ginormous pretzel that came with a mildly spicy mustard, a sweet mustard, and beer cheese dip. The pretzel was hot, chewy, and HUGE! We also had a giant biscuit with gravy and apple Dutch babies with bacon. Everything was a complete win, and the whole family left happy. They have a kid's menu with hilariously titled menu options. What a great tucked away place! We found this place on Yelp after going to a movie at the mall. So glad we went! The service was superb and the food was excellent! I would totally go back. The only bad thing is I live in Cobb county and this place is in Sugar Hill! Run, don't walk to this place if you are in the area! We came here for a plant sale event and discovered an absolute gem. Excellent food, drinks and service! We had incredible carrot soup and cheese curds. The server was the sweetest and let us try some beer before we decided on a yummy Pilsner (highly recommend for those of you who are like me and don't love hoppy beer). We heard so much about this place so we decided to give it a try. So glad we finally got to try it. When we walked in, there was no crowd at all being that it was still early for dinner. The ambiance is mostly like any other distillery but lighter with a nice German flair. Good looking menu without a lengthy variety. To start, We ordered the Poutin which was different but unique and tasty. For the entree, I ordered the German spaghetti with a smooth, creamy and light cheesy flavor. Might be a generous 3 stars. Recent change, I guess - they used to have pretty good German food on the menu, although it was relatively limited - but now it's "American tavern style" = wings, burgers, etc. Think small scale Taco Mac, maybe. They do still have the cheese curds and giant pretzel, which were the highlights of our meal today, but the rest of the food was pretty ordinary. Service wasn't any better - we were the only customers inside (maybe 6-8 were outside) and the 3 employees talked away at the empty bar while my glass stayed empty and we ran out of napkins. Came in for dinner waited at the "wait to be seated sign" for a little over 5 min then the bar tender said seat yourself. We grabbed a 4 seat table and sat for at least 10 min with not even a "be right with you" comment. This place was not that busy. The bar seating opened up so We moved to the bar and Max took care of us. We miss Ann Marie but Max holds his own. We're pretty disappointed with the two waitresses that were not attentive to new guests. As regulars not a good night for The establishment . Someone needs to retrain the waitresses or have a talk with them. We were about to walk out but the bar opened up. If the bar didn't open up this place would have lost over $150. Several really good German style beers brewed here and on tap. Our favorite was the Hefeweizen. There is in outdoor pavilion attached but it was closed the night we visited. Our server was very helpful with the menu and did warn us that portions are large. Some of our European guests were surprised about the size of the appetizers and were grateful that we didn't order sandwiches in addition to the apps. Beer cheese dip with pretzel bites. Freshly cooked and soft. I enjoyed the cheese, but our European guests said they would have preferred the pretzel bites dry without brushing them with butter. Charcuterie platter had a good mix of cuts and fruits. No complaints about that. Out of the beers on the beer flight the dunkel was my favorite. If you order dessert know that one cake slice could feed 2-4 people. Big Portions and good service make this place worth visiting. read more

I highly recommend this place. First of all it's very clean and spacious. I love how it's decorated. Second it's the only distillery and brewery in the same space in the entire United States! Third it's got a good European/German influence on it which I enjoy, this includes the food. It has some games in the area and there's a small shop upfront as well that sells jewelry and alcohol etc. we sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing. I had a cocktail with gin in it which I loved and then the Georgia peach which she made a little less sweeter (i asked for that). My husband had whiskey and then a beer which was delicious. The prices are reasonable. We also had a charcuterie board which was a good size with plenty of meat. We also had Swedish meatballs with schnitzel and it was delicious and buttery! Great conversation and we also met the owner who's awesome! we had a great time. They close around 11 PM every night. I think they're open seven days a week but don't quote me on that. They are located in a nice area with private parking. They have a good variety of beers and whiskeys and cocktails. They also have food, as mentioned. The food does have a European German twist to it. They have tons of sides as well so you can get fries etc. there are a few TVs. they have a dinner and a lunch menu and I think at times they serve breakfast. as far as breweries and distilleries go this place is amazing. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend it. it is a little bit of a drive from Atlanta but I think it's well worth it. I love its location as well. What's an awesome place for a drink, fellowship and good food. Chef Morgan has some incredible dishes where anyone can find something to tasty enjoy. I had the Rueben with potato salad and boy was I impressed. One of the best I have ever had. The rest of our group was also just as pleased as I was. This has become our new local favorite spot. They have a HUGE gorgeous patio with TVs, lots of seating options, heaters in winter and music or comedy on stage during weekends. Service is always friendly. The owners , JD & Carrie, usually are there talking to customers, which is nice to see they care. Excellent and more than enough for the 3 of us. I got the sausages on sauerkraut which was excellent. Big portion and nice variety. My MIL got the Reuben and said it was excellent. Stopped for the first time yesterday. We were there around 4pm so it was slow. But we were greeted right away. I explained that I try and visit any brewery that is nearby. They have both a distillery and brewery license ! We weren't hungry since we both ate already but I got a beer flight and pickle chips. 2 of the 4 beers I tried were very good. The chips were excellent. They have a beer garden open Friday - Sunday with music. The atmosphere was cozy. Slightly above average for a beer hall. But I do highly recommend it. Glad to see this placed closed honestly. I had applied to work here years ago and they continued to give me the run around until one day, the female owner (I don't even remember her name) rudely told me that someone I had worked with previously now worked for them and had told them lies about me and that because of that, they refused to hire me. When I tried to explain myself, she got aggressive and threatened to make sure I didn't work within Sugar Hill ever again if I didn't leave the establishment. I was apparently not the only person she did this too. I wanted to support this place and came in a few times to try the food but all I got was rude owners and terrible food. Hidden gem in Sugar Hill! I am becoming a regular here. Excellent food, deserts, beer, and cocktails! Beer Cheese Dip is a must have. Get extra pretzel bites...they don't skimp on the beer cheese portion! Love the jalapeño raspberry jam with the cheese curds. Rueben and German potato salad is top notch. All the beer and alcohol is made in house. As a craft beer person, I'm been very impressed with the Hefe, Dunkel, Czeh Pilsner and Berliner Wiesse. And although I drink beer 98% of the time, I have gotten hooked on the Country Thyme Lemonade. Today I had the apple pancakes for brunch. Fantastic! I ended my visit with some superb carrot cake. Amazing friendly waitstaff and bartenders. Owners who are deeply rooted in the community. Super cool biergarten with limited menu for now but they are working towards doing a full menu there.
