First of all, the vibe in here is simply legit. If you're into Hip Hop and/or vinyl, it's definitely a cool place to grab a drink or bite to eat just for that. To compliment, the staff were all friendly and chill. Second, the food was surprisingly delicious and fresh-tasting. My expectations weren't high given it's marketed as a Thai street food restaurant, but I was pleasantly incorrect. The Yum Gai came with a sauce which wasn't too sour or sweet, as well as not drowning the other elements of the dish. The fried pork skins, ordered by my eating companion, were also cooked to a nice crispiness and accompanied by a great sauce. Although I didn't try any, the Thai Tea Ice Cream added a level uniqueness which adds to the appeal of the menu and restaurant. My friend said it was worth ordering, so I'll trust his judgment. I'd definitely recommend this place for a casual bite to eat. I haven't been to any of the late night events, so can't comment on the nature of those. Definitely, give Sugar Hill a try. read more

Unique ambience, good value on food, and opens till late. The dark meat chicken I got was almost skinless. It's healthier but less flavorful as a result. Bean sauce was delicious. Wish they also have the Chinese style sauces for Huinanese chicken to choose from. read more

Came here on Friday for a night out. I haven't lived in Seattle for 3 years but apparently this is the new spot. I was delightfully surprised at how much fun I had. I love the atmosphere and vibe this place gives off. The staff and security are all very nice and accommodating. The place gets pretty packed but it doesn't get ridiculous where you can't move. The prices for liquor and mixed drinks were pretty decent. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely be back the next time I am in town. Note: There is cover on the weekends. 10 for guys and 5 for girls. Not a huge fan of this but what are you going to do. read more

Went there on a Saturday night and enjoyed the DJ and the music.. A laid back chill spot with no drama kinda place. People just wanna dance to good music and wind the weekend own here. There's nothing better than khao man gai and I gotta say, this place is LEGIT. Been here many times for drinks and some music with a night of dancing but never ate here except one night, a friend ordered some food and of course us hungry girls attacked his plate and remembered it was delicious. Came here with some friends after we put our name on the list for a different restaurant and decided to kill some time with drinks but i remembered they have food here. So glad we didn't end up going to the other restaurant (because the wait was like 45 minutes and we'd still be waiting instead of eating). I got the 50/50 which comes both with the boiled and fried chicken. That broth that it comes with is so flavorful, i wished i could get another bowl of just the broth. Even the papaya salad was good. If you want a nice kick @$$ drink i'd order the bass'd which is Henessey with thai tea. so good. It was so good me and a friend came back the next day with some other friends. read more

We went here for a casual light dinner and were quite impressed. The atmosphere is great, very laid-back. A bit of a coffee-shop atmosphere. We were there relatively early (7pm or so) so can't comment on what it's like later when the DJ is playing. We ordered the Khao Man Gai (steamed chicken with rice) the Khao Man Gai Tod (fried chicken with rice) - both were excellent. The Thai Iced Tea was very good as well. I think this place is an amazing addition to the hill. It's refreshing to see a casual, affordable place move in when everything else is going so up-scale. It has the potential to turn into one of those intimate neighborhood gathering spots, and I hope to see that happen! read more

The first time I came here I had an amazing time, but the second time I came here, we bought three drinks for $21 and then five minutes later we got kicked out for "being rude" because we didn't tip. Sugar Hill is unique only in concept. Billed as the only hip hop themed bar in Seattle, it felt like just another bar/restaurant when it was all said and done. I will say the record collection was what caught my eye from the street but that was about all that you will leave remembering. The drinks on the menu are unappealing and overpriced. Did not eat so I cannot comment on the food but the idea of Thai bar food sounded appealing. The decor was underwhelming and whoever though that putting street lamps coming out of the bar were a good idea they were mistaken. It felt like I was drinking under a surgical lamp at the bar. I've been here 3 times now, the best by far was when i was with a couple of friends before it got packed on a weekend night, we knew the dj and for a hour or so we pretty much had the upstairs to ourselves where we danced freely, and we even able to smoke outside on the patio with the blessings of staff. That was the best time. I've been back twice since and the experiences were nothing like that. One time came in with a guy wearing a full 3 piece suit 'cuz we just came from theater show and they treated him rudely, seemingly only based on his attire, and another time with a couple friends, went to upstairs bar, which was quite empty, and waited on the bartender to even look our way, we were trying not to be rude and ask for help but he never acknowledged us even though he was standing behind bar the entire time about 5 feet from us, very strange & awkward experience. Finally one of us said something to him, and he seemed agitated that he had been spoken to, it was almost laughable, and actually we did laugh a lot about the weirdness of it while having drinks at havana. I dig the vinyl and love hip hop but this place doesn't have that soulful vibe to it, just another spot on the hill. read more

The woman bartender downstairs put a guys drink on my tab and when I denied that I agreed to have it on my tab, she refused to take it off. Terrible Service. If I were her, I would have voided the drink. I was next to the person the entire time they ordered, and not once did they tell the bartender to put it on my tab or I agree to have it on mine. Their chicken rice (Kao Mun Ghai) was decent and I enjoyed some of their other stuff as well but the service was disappointing. I went with a group of friends and we had hoped to just get a quick Kao Mun Ghai for a late meal at around 9.15pm. Waited for the food for 15minutes when one staff came out to tell us one of the things we ordered is out for the night, then she came back to tell us that at 10pm everyone has to be over 21 to stay (a couple of us were not yet 21). We haven't gotten the rest of our order and it has been like 30 minutes of waiting. It's understandable that anyone underage has to be out by 10pm but we would have been out way sooner had the food not been so slow. On top of this they also got the bills wrong and we had to bring the bills back to them a couple times before sorting things out. Frustrating experience :/ read more

The bartender, Zach, was disrespectful to my friends so I did not leave him a tip, 5 minutes later he came up to my Group of friends and I and proceeded to kick us out of the bar, the bouncers and the rest of the wait staff all engaged in kicking us out. Interesting joint. Love what they did with the old Capitol Club space. Surprisingly bright and open during the day. Functions as a quiet-ish restaurant until 9 or 10, then goes full on bar/club with bouncer and all. Good music. Patio will be a hot spot come summer. Food was great, with a caveat. Khao Mun Gai was the best of the lot, and if anything the wintermelon soup stole the show. Moo Ping was delicious, but had a bit of gross gristle and was pretty small for the price. Yum Gai was incredible at first, but has a huge cluster of nasty bone / cartilage in it that rather ruined the whole dish. Drinks were pretty much standard middle ground Seattle bar fare. Beer on tap was okay; fair selection of liquor; nothing fancy as far as cocktails, though. I have been to Sugar Hill two times on weekend nights. The first time was when the venue just opened and the crowd was a good mix of people. It was super crowded upstairs however and some girls upstairs got into a physical fight at the bar, and my friends and I decided to leave. My review of 2 stars is really for my second night there a week or so ago. The music was good, it wasn't too crowded, and I was having a decent time until I went to the bathroom. I hadn't used the restroom the first time I had been there, so I didn't know there was only one line for guys and girls. There were all guys standing to the right of the door to the bathrooms and one girl on the left. So I went to stand behind the girl. The man running the bathrooms said something to the girl in front of me and she turned to go to the back of the line of guys. Then I hear "Hey white woman! Yeah you, white woman." I was so f*cking shook. I gave him this look like, "Are you serious?" and tried to ignore the rude AF way he addressed me and said, "Yeah?" He then said, "There's one line." I looked back and said, "Ooooh, behind these guys?" And he gave me this sarcastic look and said, "Yeah, go to the back of the line." I apologized and said I was sorry and didn't know there was only one line. He was totally stern the whole time. Writing this review because this guy should be fired. There's no reason to be rude like that to customers. Yes, I am a white woman but I don't need to addressed like that. My friend was in line when I came out of the restroom, and she later told me that the guy was also very disrespectful to her. Definitely won't be back. read more

The music was so good, old school hip hop played by a live DJ. Brought back good memories! We ordered chicken on rice and chicken wings and they came out quick and they were so yum. And the drinks are strong! The vibe is really chill and the place is comfortable and great to eat, drink and talk. The music was so good I think I might even dance next time! (One brave soul was dancing by himself, if I had a couple more drinks I would have joined him.). There really isn't another place around here like this. Love this place! My boyfriend and I went here last Friday night for a light dinner and drinks around 7 pm. The pork skewers were amazing! We ordered one and had to order another after!
