Great food with good sized portions. Also I must mention the cleanliness of the restaurant was great to see so late in the day

BirdHouse - Half chicken and fries with ranch

Walking into Birdhouse, a converted drive-through restaurant, at 6PM, we were greeted with a short…read moreline wrapping around the order counter. It moves pretty quickly since the menu, full of fried chicken and staple sides, isn't too complicated. Birdhouse is a counter service establishment so the food doesn't take very long at all to cook and assemble. In our case it took only about 10 minutes. Thigh + Leg, Original ($11) - Instead of the advertised thigh and leg, the meal came with 3 pieces of chicken - one leg and 2 thighs! It wasn't just us; I saw other customers also getting three pieces. Finally a restaurant that underpromises and overdelivers! The breading on the chicken is a really dark golden brown, initially making me assume it was overfried. Biting into the breading, a really strong crunch shatters on the teeth. It's a hard crunch vs. the crisp that a normal fried chicken skin exhibits. Perhaps they enhance the mixture with rice flour and evercrisp? It's really quite amazing especially with how thin the breading looks. Even with the dark color, the interior remains moist and juicy; in fact, upon my first bite, a stream of chicken juice shot up onto my glasses! The meat has clearly been brined as it's super flavorful, and there's plenty of salt and pepper mixed into the breading to add even more oomph. The fat is rendered nicely and everything is served piping hot. They really know what they are doing with their chicken! A meal comes with one side of which we went with the Seasoned Fries. These are crinkle cut fries sprinkled with seasoning salt. The fry level isn't the most even, with some pieces being a little more dried out, but most still having tender interiors. I'd probably go with a different side in the future. (5/5) Thigh + Leg, Honey Butter ($11) - I believe this is literally the same fried chicken but with honey butter melted over the top. It adds some richness and sweetness, but is otherwise the same excellent fried chicken. For the side with this meal, we went with the Broccoli Salad w/ Bacon. It's pieces of crunchy raw broccoli mixed with tiny pieces of bacon in a light creamy dressing with a bit of sweetness. (5/5) Birdhouse makes their sauces in house which they supply for most orders. The first is their special honey mustard which, as the name implies, is sweet and mustardy. The second is a buttermilk ranch, creamy and tangy. It's very fresh and seems to have fresh herbs mixed in. After several days eating bland (but very fresh!) food in the Navajo Nation, we finally had a meal with actual seasoning! We were impressed enough that we went back the next day to try the final chicken flavor. This time it was earlier at 5PM and for some reason the line was even longer! Yet it took less than 5 minutes for the food to arrive. Thigh + Leg, Spicy ($11) - The base chicken is the same texture and flavor as above. The only difference is a liberal dusting of cayenne pepper spice mixture on top. They don't use any hot oil, so it's only dry spice on the outside, applied right after frying so it all sticks on. The powder is spicy enough to heat up the mouth and lips, but isn't enough to get me sweating at all. I'd compare to something between mild and medium at a hot chicken shop. There's just a hint of sweetness in the mixture - I actually wished it was boosted up a bit more. Still great fried chicken though! (5/5) Birdhouse really serves some great fried chicken. Reasonably priced, delicious food, great portions, there's not much more I could ask for. It was so good that we ended up eating here both nights we stayed in Page! Bathrooms - Single unisex room outside on the back side of the restaurant.

Got that last rotisserie chicken. Large salad was tasty. Chicken tenders were big and juicy. I got the wings naked with a side of buffalo sauce. As a note, they should call this "Sisters Bistro" as I only saw young females working here, maybe the brothers were out working the field. I found the red head with glasses really attractive, even though she didn't understand my East Coast accent. I was about to ask her out but remembered that I was married and didn't want to deal with child support, so I just took the food and left.

Brothers Bistro popped up in my search, and although the ratings were low, I clung to a shred of Christmas magic and optimism that maybe--just maybe--it would be okay. Pulling up to the building felt like the opening scene of a horror movie. And the horror? The moment I stepped out of my car, I was hit with the unmistakable smell of weeks-old grease seeping through the walls. When I opened the door, I swear the grease coated my entire body. It was everywhere. Layers upon layers of grease stacked into every crevice--walls, furniture, surfaces. Inside the hot display case sat one single corn dog, alone, looking like it was begging to be rescued. There was not a single adult in the building. I'm fairly certain the oldest employee was about 15. At one point, a child who couldn't have been more than 12 walked out from the back of the kitchen looking like he desperately needed a smoke break. I wish I were exaggerating. Now, the food... I should not have taken a bite of the chicken. I could smell the old grease the moment the bag hit my hands, but curiosity (and hunger) got the best of me. The chicken was absolutely diabolical. When I bit into the strip, an entire gelatinous layer slid out, and the skin quite literally melted off from how greasy it was. It took every ounce of self-control not to throw up on the spot. I ended up throwing away $14 worth of food. When I called to ask for a refund, the child working the register told me she couldn't process it and that a manager would get back to me. (Spoiler alert: they never did.) If you do not care what happens to you, your health, or your general will to live, and you're truly at your breaking point, this may be the place for you.

Then Pine Wood opened on Thursday night so we tried something different. We didnt have reservations, but bounced in around 7pm and got a table. Ordered a few drinks and then checked out menu. Oh My - Servers, Food, atmosphere was so amazing, we changed our next night dinner plans to to return. We enjoyed Pork Chop, Caesar Salad, and their Salmon was amazing. Nice piece of Salmon, incredible mashed potatoes, and seasonal veggie. Worn out from hiking, everyone had a great food and we were back to our Airbnb in 75 mins. This was a peaceful relaxing home run! Then came our second night. We made reservations based on our server / front manager recommendation. We arrived 10 mins early and they had our table - from there it was literally chaos and disaster. it was like we had a tent around us. It took over 15 mins to get/order a drink, then 15 mins before returning w drinks and taking our appetizer or dinner order. Then we waited, waited, waited. After almost 2 hrs, they came by offered us a round of drinks, and said they were out of Salmon (4 of 5 of us requested Salmon). Instead offering Cod. We thought sure. We were still patient. 45 mins later we got small hard poorly fried cod and 6 little hash browns (both very frozen). It was absolutely horrible. We asked and they said that is all they could do. 3 hr total effort for a $24 (salmon price) cod fried kids meal. Often you understand this, but it was obvious they didnt care about us. They were still serving Salmon to other tables (best friends / locals) that came and left. They told us 10 times they had new staff, but the new young waitresses were running everywhere and trying so hard. Note the new young staff were rock stars trying to keep things together. But it was just the vibe - our server didnt care we were there and made it clear. Told the table there were tables waiting on her - but she didnt care. So - I really do hope this place makes it for the local's benefit, but if you are visiting, be prepared that it is very much a work in progress and you never know what you are going to get. Sad to say the lack of care from our server - left us hating it. Best Wishes.

What arrived was two pieces of sad white bread hugging a slice of what I can only describe as "chicken-flavored disappointment" and a single wilted piece of lettuce that looked like it had been emotionally abused. The bacon? It tasted like it had been rescued from a dumpster behind a Marriott at 3 a.m. and then microwaved by someone who hates me personally. The fries were so salty I briefly gained the ability to preserve meat just by touching it. My tongue is now 40% sodium and 60% regret. Asked for extra Zax sauce (because at this point I needed something to feel). They gave me one tiny cup. ONE. Like I'm supposed to ration it like it's the last helicopter out of Saigon. Newsflash: I'm not a sauce communist. I want FREEDOM SAUCE. The cashier called me "boss" three times while simultaneously acting like I personally ruined his day by existing. Bro, I'm just trying to eat chicken and not cry in public. We're not that close. 10/10 would not recommend unless your goal is to experience what it feels like to be emotionally ghosted by fast food. Would give zero stars if I could, but they made me type all this out on their janky kiosk so now I'm just mad AND carpal tunnel. Thanks Zaxby's. You've ruined chicken for me and possibly marriage.
