I've been here before and decided to take my boyfriend because i love this place! I got the "S&S Burger" and a chocolate milkshake! They were both very yummy, but i should've gotten a double because the burgers are thin after they're cooked. My boyfriend got the "Breakfast Special" and enjoyed it a lot. Quick and attentive service! Love the ducks and the general ambiance. Didn't see a lot of big tables from where I was sitting, so you may be waiting if you come with a group larger than four. Went here on a Sunday morning as walk ins as my wife and I tried to book a reservation the day before, but all the slots were filled. Must be a pretty popular place then, right? And it was. We got there at 10:00 and waited about 30 minutes to get a table - not too bad. The diner from the layout, set up, and decor is very cool. A modern retro type feel. Took some time to receive our orders, as was to be expected, but nothing too horrible. The wait staff were all attentive and pleasant. However, the worst part of the experience, was the most important - the grub! It wasn't bad by any means, but every single thing we had was just kind of bland and kind of meh. My wife got two chocolate chip pancakes, that she wasn't too crazy about, due to how thing they were. She also had scrambled eggs, with hash browns, and goetta. We both agreed, the goetta was the best part of the dish, but nothing really stood out. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Omelette, and just more of the same. A very generous portion, but I much prefer quality over quantity. Pretty run of the mill in the flavor department. The diner was packed and took about 30-40 minutes for our order to come out. My group avoided the long wait to get a table roughly 40 minutes by sitting at the bar rather than wait for a booth. I ordered the breakfast sandwich& chocolate chip pancakes. I like the thin pancakes & the delicious chocolate chips atop and put in the batter. It was delicious & filing despite the thin batter. When it comes to the breakfast sandwich the egg, and protein of choice served with it just makes it pop. It's very customizable & really can be eaten with any bread of choice, cheese or protein. I ordered it with bacon, American cheese, turkey sausage and an English muffin. The egg for sandwich was served over hard. Overall it was delicious couldn't get any tastier. It had been at least two years since we patronized Sugar & Spice Diner and was looking forward to not having to cook breakfast. So I booked a reservation at the newest and shiniest location Over-The-Rhine. We were seated right away in the front yellow booth. We ordered an omelet, hash browns, pancakes, waffle n wings and an orange juice. Everything looked great but I was totally unsatisfied with the taste of practically everything. The omelet had too much filler (milk or something like milk?) in it. The hash browns had a frozen taste to it, though they were nice and brown, just not crispy. The pancakes were straight out of the box. The waffle had no flavor to me, even with syrup on them. The wings were very hard and gristly; very reminiscent of something I've bought in the freezer section at my local grocer. The prices have obviously gone up. Never paid so much for breakfast!!?!?!? On the flip side, the ambience was nice and had the diner feel that I looked forward to. The music was at a tolerable level and played a variety of oldies fitting for the look. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating, checking on us regularly. He complimented me on my pink nail polish! :) The bathrooms were clean and reminded me of being on a plane, very small spaced but efficient; it had a very cute little sink. Hit or miss on the seating. Some days are more pack than others but you will be seated faster once you come inside and make a reservation. The food to me is good. Some people I take his 50/50 on it. Cute place, bright retro colors and clean. I ordered the corned beef hash with an extra egg and rye toast dry butter on the side. I did not get the extra egg but that was sort of ok since the corned beef portion was on the small side. The toast was also buttered not dry. I tossed back and forth between a 3 and 4. This place is obviously a fav. We made a reservation and showed up early. It was obvious that people were being seated before us so when I inquired and she looked at the list, the hostess said, "Oh you have a reservation. We'll get you next." Our waitress took our drink orders fairly quickly. Not as fast taking our food orders but oh the amount of time it took for that food to arrive. For the love of molasses. Soooooo slllllloooooowww. Finally got to make it here due to the hours of operations it has been a little tricky to check it out. Good thing I made a reservation because the place was busier than what I expected for a Friday morning . The place itself it's cute and catchy. I like the vive and colors, it really feels like a diner from older movies. And I love the rubber duckies around the area. The food is delicious, we had mimosas (which are few of the cocktails options). I had the biscuit burger and my mum had the Cuban. The taste was great and the amount of food was too, both came with fries that were tasty. This could easily had been a 5 but I was very disappointed by the service. The waitress took a long time to come to the take for every occasion and I understand that it was busy, however, she never checked if everything was okay, she brought the bill before asking if we needed something else, and I felt a little weird asking for coffee a after getting the bill. Downtown was dying for a diner and this spot is perfect for Sugar N' Spice! I have been dying to check out this location since they took over this old fashioned diner spot, and it's just as tasty as the original location with a lot more seating. I love the 50s vibe with the brightly colored booths and bar seating. I called ahead to find out the wait time - unbeknownst to me that unlike the OG location, they actually take reservations via OpenTable downtown, so take advantage on the weekend! While we had no issues finding street parking, I noticed a sign advertising free parking (with a SnS voucher) in the Ziegler Park garage (just a few blocks up) during the week. After being told we'd have a wait of 25 minutes, we were seated within 10 minutes (woohoo!) My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and demolished it, while I had the breakfast special with scrambled eggs, pumpkin spice wispy-thin pancakes and goetta. I practically licked my plate clean and don't regret a thing. Of course, a trip to Sugar N' Spice wouldn't be complete without a free rubber ducky to add to our collection - arguably one of the best parts of dining here! read more

Wow! What a cool spot. I've been waiting to have an opportunity to have breakfast here and finally got the chance this morning with a good friend. Overall the experience is so pleasant and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. We saw some police officers sitting at a booth having some coffee and chatting... the feeling inside is just really awesome. It seems like the menu is the same as the original location on Reading Road. Wow it all is fairly solid I would say none of it was mine blowing which is why I gave it four stars. It's good don't get me wrong but it's just not the most refined ingredients or recipes. I got the eggs Benedict and I felt like a hollandaise sauce was heavily lacking flavor and texture. Also the coffee we got many refills with but I didn't seem to feel any of the caffeine affects. I wonder if their standard coffee is decaf or what happened. Anyways this place is awesome and it's a great interior to meet someone to hang out. Everything about this place is so cute, but I think my favorite thing is the breakfast mural on the ceiling. So many cute photo ops in this retro diner. The make a strong cup of joe which I can definitely appreciate, and it comes in these cute little mugs. The stars of the show were the pancakes, so thin and perfect and the home fries that were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside w/a kind of curly fry seasoning on top. I don't personally recommend the ribeye, it's not really great but hey it's a diner not a steakhouse I guess. Paid parking in back or along the street. Keep in mind that the weekends get pretty busy. Because we were willing to sit at the bar instead of a table we were seated more quickly though. Sitting at the bar normally means better service because your waiter is only tending to the bar...well at the back bar this didn't hold true. Our waiter, while really nice, seemed to forget we were there because he had tables on the floor. He kept their coffee filled while I had to flag him down after passing us many times to get ours filled, or our drink order to begin with or our check. I was excited to hear someone had taken to putting something in the old Joe's Diner. Thought it was also cool when I found out it was Sugar N' Spice. I am not a big fan of the original location because it's super small and crowded. Very touristy. But I saw the photos of the new place and decided to go check it out. My best friend drove down from Dayton and her, my boyfriend and myself headed over to the new Sugar N' Spice. The new location is unreal cute inside and the design is everything. But your restaurant can only rely on design and gimmicky rubber ducks so much. It was busy when we got here but not unreal busy. We were sat right away, not all the seats were full. We waited ten minutes to even see our server. When she finally arrived she got our drink orders and our food orders. Thirty minutes went by and we still didn't have our drinks. I looked over and saw our server rolling silverware so I shot her a glare which seemed to do the trick because within minutes she brought our drinks. Another twenty minutes passed and we still didn't have our food and I was just tired and ready to go home. Eventually someone who wasn't our server brought our food out. My boyfriend got The Hefer Burger and fries. Liked the burger alot said the fries were "meh". My best friend got The Eggs Benedict and she liked them alot. I got The Philly Cheesesteak and Fries. The Philly Cheesesteak would be good if they put it on different bread and didn't over load it. Most of my sandwich was on the plate itself and not the bun. They also really need to slice the mushrooms with everything else in the sandwiches. I kept getting a big mushroom and would drag it out trying to eat it, and everything else in my sandwich would fall out. The problem with our fries were that they just literally weren't cooked all the way. Their fries are supposed to be like Five Guys or Penn Station. Which when cooked all the way, our delicious. But these fries when you picked them up were almost translucent. I couldn't deal with with my sandwich so I left my plate basically full. We got our checks in which our server took forever. Then she informed us she originally swiped the wrongs cards on the wrong tabs and had to get her manager to fix it. Our server seemed pretty young. I feel like Sugar N' Spice should have helped train her better. She didn't seem confident at all which you have to be to be a good server. She was extremely aloof. When someone's food is taking longer than 20 minutes you definitely need to stop by the table and check in way more than she did. Which she didn't check in at all. So. My last thing about this location of Sugar N' Spice is while everyone was wearing their masks, employee wise and they wear making everyone inside wear masks, that they have no paper towels in their bathroom right now. They weren't out of them, they just don't have them. They don't have a touch less sink or door. They also have a Dyson Hand Dryer. The one that you have to stick your hands in to use. If you know anything about those hand dryers you know that 1. They just shoot all the germs into the air. 2. They are basically the equivalent of a petri dish for bacteria and all the gross stuff. Ikea and most places that have these have them turned off and blocked off during covid because of these reasons. You need paper towels in your bathroom right now. I feel like the food at this location of Sugar N' Spice is just the same as the old one. It's just good. Nothing mind blowing or outstanding, but just good. I would stick to their breakfast menu for sure. Enjoy some pancakes, some pretty pastel colors and some ducks. Hopefully they will get their service issues worked out soon. read more

We stopped there on a Sunday morning without a reservation and had a 15 minute wait which I didn't think was bad. I've heard a lot of good things about Sugar n Spice and I was kind of underwhelmed. The food was just okay and service was really slow. The waitress never came and checked on us until we were ready for our bill. And, it was a January morning and it was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. Most of the guests were eating with their winter coats still on. I said something to the waitress and she told us that the manager turned it up a couple of degrees and hopefully that will at least shut the air off - air as in air conditioning?? Sooo, we had quite the experience today.... We booked this place about a week or two ago on open table. Confirmed the reservation a day before. We arrived about 15 minutes early to check in for our reservation. As we were checking in, I saw, with my own eyes, my name on the list! Pointed to my name! The hostess even made it a point to say "oh, it's your anniversary l" confirming our name and reservation had been made! She asked us to stand outside while our table was prepared and said it would be closer to our time. No problem. 20 min went by and about 10 tables went in and were sat. I had my husband go in and check... Our reservation was no where to be found. I went up and luckily the waitress "remembered my face" her words... We were sat immediately. Greeted by the nicest waitress. But this is where things got weird. So, I ordered a mimosa. (Remember this for later) mimosa was brought. It was fine. I asked our waitress how we ended up with the the ducks because my husband and I collect them. She said "oh I'll bring you a basket and you can take as many as you want". My husband and I may have been a little greedy and took like 8-10. Okay! Remember the mimosa, well another very nice waitress came over and said that the trainee made it and it wasn't done right so she'd make me a new one! GREAT! But then she also said we actually weren't allowed to take that many ducks and could only take one.. that's fine. We may have been a bit greedy anyway. The OG sugar n spice has been one of my all time favorite places in cincy for a long time- but the drive and the wait have always kept me from being more of a regular. So when word got out about sugar n spice taking over the empty diner space in my neighborhood, I was pumped. They have made awesome use of the space, and All of the important aspects of the original location show up here as well. The decor is classic diner meets eclectic rubber ducks, the food is diner classics with some cincy twists, and the wait was barely five minutes. They also offer reservations, which is rare in OTR. Lobke was our server and she was awesome! She recommended some menu items and they all lived up to the hype.
