Brochachos let me tell you about a good time! The food is delicious. I only stopped in for a snack but I shall be back. With a hunger-vengeance. I got the spicy tuna onigiri (I just had the urge) . Friggin delicious. The counter server said it has a kick, that was a lie. More like a judo throw because I was not prepared for the taste. I was not hungry enough for a full meal but again I was recommended the chicken Karrage, now they're gonna have to carry me out the door. It was devoured. I kind of wish the sauce had something more zesty like a Japanese bbq or something but the yuzu sauce was pretty good too. Honestly I avoid specialty drinks but they have ice cream and everything so I ended up going for the Matcha Limeade and was not disappointed. This place is a pretty good bang for your buck too. I got a big ol piece of onigiri and a hefty bowl of chicken with a fun drink for around 16$. A lot of appetizers and food for not much compared to quantity and quality. We love ice cream, especially it is too long to make it at home. So we decided to visit Sugar Pine-it had good reviews and looked cool. The flavors are wonderful-you cannot find them elsewhere. The cream they use seems to be delicious, and the toasted coconut ice cream was delicious too. However, afterwards I had a bad diarrhea, sigh.... So probably the ice cream is sitting in there for long time and in this temperature it goes bad and bacteria grows in it. Hope my suggestions help. Thank you! read more

Tried this place out the other night - Overall, it was just ok. Ambiance is nice - cute and clean. The black sesame ice cream was good (a little too sweet for me, but adding some toppings balanced it out). The woman serving us behind the counter was friendly and let us taste the flavors before ordering. We ordered coffee drinks as well. They were ok (not the best, definitely not the worst). A tad bit overpriced for everything. Now onto the service. Sigh. They just opened so I understand that they're working out some kinks. We were waiting 15 minutes (mind you there weren't that many folks in the place) for our two drinks until I asked the waitress on the status. She then asked questions about the order as if they didn't log it or write it down somewhere (maybe these should be logged?) If I hadn't asked about it - they probably wouldn't have made them and just kept taking others orders in the line. We were close enough to the counter to overhear and one woman asked "how do you make this??" That's reassuring for a customer to hear... They need to work on their organization for sure and get their staff some training. They were all friendly, but need some training and good resources. Hopefully it will get better with time. So much to say . . . First, the karaage was so overdone (in terms of cooking time) that it was almost impossible to bite into. I gave it to the server and told her what the problem was and, . . . nothing. She didn't bring me a new order; she didn't do anything. Second, the onigiri. We ordered the "spicy tuna" onigiri. The filling was canned tuna and not spicy. Canned tuna. I might have been able to stomach that but the rice ball was literally falling apart. When making onigiri, it is important to sufficiently work the rice so that it maintains the proper shape while eating. Third, the shrimp tempura was virtually ALL BATTER. There was the smallest (and I mean small) shrimp in each piece. Imagine a hot dog inside of a batard. No one wants to eat a giant piece of fried batter with a tiny piece of shrimp. Fourth, the chicken wings appeared to be fried - store bought frozen wings. Seriously, it was like getting wings at a bowling alley or a sad carnival. (The aioli wasn't bad.) Fifth, the server (and cashier) were . . . ok. The table outside was pretty dirty. I asked for a rag to clean the table. She brought out a dry rag and sort of dusted off the table. I felt the table - still super dirty. We changed tables. This place is the bomb! Food was amazing and their original is made to order. We shared a bowl of chicken udon soup, I've never really been a fan of veges but I was practically fighting for every last one of them with my wife! also have ice cream, coffee, and beer. We ended up going with ice cream for dessert...wifey loved her miso ice cream with chocolate chips and my 'white chocolate with thai iced tea' ice cream was pretty good too! We ordered one onigiri, the pork katsu bento box and the raspberry ombre cake to share. Their rice is the BEST. Normally, I'd say Japanese rice is Japanese rice-and note-I am Japanese American. However, the quality of their rice is better than any I've tried! So this knocks their onigiri out of the park-seasoning is perfect. Pork Katsu-it was better than most, and the sauce is amazing-definitely homemade. The cake? Incredible!! So gorgeous, and well made. Different flavors in every layer. And this place is cute! We had a nice lunch here. We ordered Spicy Tuner Originis and Chicken Karage and both were excellent. They reinterpreted these traditional Japanese foods and created something their own. The highlight was surprisingly the ICE CREAMS. We have three different flavors and I highly recommend Matcha and Mango. I think this place offer the best ice cream second to The Licks. It's rough and looks like armature-ish. Don't judge it by texture/look. Ask for the sample and try it by your self. read more

Awesome food, awesome staff, awesome ice cream. Currently working my way through the menu to try everything because it's all been delicious so far. The Onigiri and the fish and chips are my current favorite (they retired the mushroom melt which saddens me because it was delicious, but they told me it wasn't selling consistently enough to keep their ingredients as fresh as they require them to be, so I can't blame them there). I love all the flavors of ice cream, but I really don't think I've ever had better sorbet in my life, so refreshing. They even make all their own toppings! The thinly sliced strawberries and lime meringue dots are especially delicious, and my husband got an incredible house made ice cream sandwich where he got to pick from their cookies to make it! The attention to detail is really exceptional, each plate that comes out is beautiful and enticing and the food tastes even better than it looks. I'm so excited they opened less than a minute from my friends house, so we're here all the time. We realized we'd been there at lot when my friend asked the ice cream scooper if they ever changed out their flavors (because we'd had them all already-not that we mind repeats) and she replied, "I think we will, but we've only been open two weeks". The food was yummy and the display was lovely. We had the spicy tuna onigiri, the chicken katsu came with soup, yummy mushroom potato curry, pickled veggies and a little japanese cookie. The presentation was so cute. It was actually pretty filling. My husband had the salmon dish and it was cooked nice and perfect. The flavor was on point. These people really know what they're doing. I heard about this place from a friend of mine, and I was SO excited to try it out because it's super hard to find Katsu Curry in Austin (especially *good*) unless I make it myself at home. I first fell in love with the flavors of katsu on a trip to Japan and my old roommate making it when we were younger. So, I'll start with the positives: The place itself is super cute and well decorated The menu is small (which can be a benefit and a negative, more on this in a second) The pork katsu itself was amazing, as were most of the sides that came with it Service was great, friendly, and fast Now for the negative: The prices are a little high for lunch but not unreasonable The miso soup was pretty generic and bland And the curry part of the katsu plate so completely flavorless and bland, to the point that I didn't even eat it. My suggestion would be to invest heavily in figuring out those flavors since katsu makes up two of the six offerings for their menu. (This is the part about having fewer menu items) if you have such a tight menu, you need to ensure that every item is perfect since there's not really much wiggle room for mistakes. I'd also have some bulldog sauce (fairly traditional in japan) available to patrons for their katsu since it can add a bit of tang to break up all of the savory flavors of the katsu and curry. Like I said, I really want to like this place, and ill definitely give it another go sometime, especially if I hear they adjust the curry/add bulldog sauce. Not that I expect them to change their menu for *me* specifically, but for the overall enjoyment of all patrons. read more

Onigiri and ice cream; I want more. Come here for the onigiri. Bring your friend who can't stand the idea of raw fish on nigiri and let them enjoy similar flavors with cooked meats in shaped rice. Bring the vegetarian friend to enjoy the vegetable options. The Avocado was creamy and disappeared far too quickly. The salmon was very tasty. The pickled vegetable and kimchi-chicken were also flavorful; just the right amount of tart and sour. I still want more of all of them. I mostly tasted caramel in the miso caramel ice cream, but the watermelon Thai basil ice cream (really more of a sorbet) started with the sweetness of the watermelon beautifully contrasted by the Thai basil finish. In terms of food, karaage (Japanese type fried chicken) is the clear winner here (not pictured). The katsu (pictures) is okay but definitely inferior to the karaage. Rice balls are good and a nice size but a little pricey! Cons: Interesting ice cream flavors but the actual ingredients don't really come through. Got the ube/taro and it was just very sugary.
