We checked this place out for lunch recently and had a great time. We made a reservation for outside seating on OpenTable, so we didn't have to wait long to be seated. We sat outside on the covered patio to enjoy the weather. We were able to take advantage of some happy hour pricing which we were not expecting for a Saturday. We tried the fried rice, chicken gyoza, and sushi lunch. We also ordered the Malibu Sunset and yellowtail rolls as well. Everything came out quick and had great flavor. My daughter loved the fried rice and my wife was impressed with how much yellowtail was in each piece of that roll. Our server was friendly and attentive. We even saw a celebrity come in to eat at the bar! Highly recommend.

My wife and I came here after walking 5 miles up and down the beach in Malibu. We got here around 5p and were able to get a seat quickly as it got busier as dinner time for many approached. We ordered a rainbow roll, a Sunset roll and a Paradise roll, all of which were delicious. June P. Was our server and she was excellent, coming buy a couple times to make sure all was good and then brought us trays and a bag so we could take our leftovers home. We recommend this restaurant 100% if you enjoy really good sushi at a decent price in Malibu.

Bui's Happy Hour is officially my new midday indulgence. From 12PM-5PM, you can enjoy seriously decadent deals that feel anything but ordinary. I'm currently obsessed with the Miso Cod Bowl (with veggies) -- perfectly balanced, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling heavy. Pescavegan-friendly. Pair it with their $6 hot sake during Happy Hour, and it's a combination that truly elevates the afternoon. I prefer sitting at the bar -- it's relaxed, seamless, and just feels easy. The hospitality is warm and welcoming, with that distinctly Malibu charm that keeps you coming back. A little unexpected luxury, conveniently next to my newest favorite Pilates place. Highly recommend to lovers and friends.

Bui Sushi in Malibu is one of those spots that makes you wonder why you ever settle for average sushi anywhere else. I kicked things off with the perfect bowl of miso soup. Simple, but so good. Then came the salmon skin salad, which had just the right crunch and flavor to balance it out. The sushi is next level fresh. I went for the High Tide Roll and the Malibu Sunset Roll. Both of which were bright, balanced, and ridiculously good. Grab a bottle of the Dassai 39 sake to share. It's so smooth, and pairs perfectly with everything. The service was great. Friendly and attentive without hovering. Between the rolls, the sake, and the laid-back Malibu vibe, Bui feels like the kind of place you'll keep finding excuses to come back to.

Bui is always a nice place to go sit at the bar and have a quick bite to eat with friends. The staff is always friendly, and the food is consistently good. I do love my salmon, and order that every time. I also like their Malibu sunset roll. They do have a happy hour during the week as well. Make sure you go and check them out!

Came in during their happy hour after a nice long beach session and got the sashimi combination with the spicy tuna roll. The sashimi tasted fresh, and the spicy tuna roll was good as well. We also got the spicy garlic chili edamame which was a great starter. The sauce was super flavorful and irresistible. The service was very good and quick, and their recommendations were on point. We wanted to sit outside and were hoping to have a view of the beach too but the outside seating was in the front of the restaurant with not much of a view but the parking lot so that was a bummer. Overall, Bui Sushi nailed the sushi game and would come back for the sashimi combination and edamame!

Cute ambiance and really good sushi! They have lots of options with sashimi, classic rolls, signature rolls and appetizers! Great service as well!

I forgot how amazing this place is. It's been too long! Sat on the covered patio and for a cold ish night, it was lovely and warm with only a couple of heaters on. Beautiful relaxed atmosphere with lovely lighting inside and out. Our waitress was amazing. I would come back just for her. The food is literally one of the best sushi I have ever had. It's perfection on a plate. And the presentation supports my comment.

Came in tonight on a Sunday, you could tell they were understaffed server wise. They had a lot of sushi chefs and food runners on it looked like. Our server had a lot of tables and we definitely felt it! He came by our table a couple times when we ordered but never really checked on our food or our experience and they did bring us a hand roll with soy paper and it took them a very very long time to fix it. They did fix it thankfully but by that point I was kinda over it. The food is always great at bui tho! The prices have gone up- so has everywhere else but for that price I do expect better service. The rock shrimp is my favorite! It is always perfectly crisp and sauced- I did notice the portion size got smaller and price went up! The garlic noodles were great as well! Love the salmon sashimi and the yellowtail with jalepenos comes in such a great yuzu sauce. It was very busy for a Sunday which is great for them! However like I said service was not it tonight.

First time and the service was great. The waiter was very attentive and helpful. The ambiance was good for the time of the day we came to have a late lunch. The food was good. I ordered my meat medium well done but I would've liked for it to be a bit more than well done! (My personal taste) Overall good food and ambiance. $114 for two.

That alone already gives it a special kind of charm, but the food and overall experience definitely delivered too. First off, parking is actually easy which in this area is a huge win.. I didn't have to circle or stress, which immediately made the whole visit feel more relaxed from the start. The sushi itself was super fresh. You can really taste the quality of the fish, and everything came out clean, well presented, and just really satisfying. Nothing felt overly heavy or overly complicated, just solid, fresh sushi done right. I kept thinking the whole time how consistent everything tasted. Now I have to talk about the mango sticky rice because that completely surprised me. It was honestly amazing. Perfectly sweet without being too much, the mango was fresh and juicy, and the rice had that warm, creamy texture that just hits. It ended up being one of my favorite parts of the whole meal, which I did not expect walking into a sushi place. I will say it is a little on the pricey side, but at the same time you can tell you are paying for quality and location. It didn't feel like a ripoff, just more of a treat kind of place rather than an everyday casual stop. The service was smooth and easy, nothing over the top but attentive enough that you feel taken care of without being hovered over. The whole vibe is low key but still feels like a place you want to come back to. The only thing I regret is not getting the uni. I kept thinking about it after and I know it would have been incredible based on how fresh everything else was. Overall, really solid spot. Fresh sushi, amazing mango sticky rice, easy parking, and a calm, enjoyable atmosphere. Definitely one of those places you're glad is still around and worth going back to.

I expect a restaurant near the water in a high caliber area such as the Palisades to offer high quality food. This was no better than the discount sushi spots. The rolls we ordered were plain and lacked flavor, worse than grocery store sushi, if you can believe it. I appreciate that they offer both Thai and Japanese food but they didn't get the Thai food right either. We ordered hot items like chicken skewers and the chicken was tough and not very flavorful. Not going back and cannot recommend anyone try this place either. I believe this place is only open because the locals don't have many other dining options in the area.

Parking was a little tough on a weekend during the summer, but to be expected. We got a spot down the street on PCH and walked there -- all good. We waited in line for about 20 minutes which gave us plenty of time to get a little mini tan AND decide what we wanted by the time we got to the register: grilled swordfish with rice pilaf and salad, fried shrimp plate with fries, a New England clam chowder and 2 iced teas. First, the swordfish -- a delicious fish, barely needed to be seasoned. that said, I asked for it well done and part of the fish was still a bit undercooked. the salad was a BORE. nothing tasty about it -- don't bother - the Italian dressing tasted like cheap bottled dressing from the market. I expected more. the rice pilaf was good but I felt like it had A LOT of butter in it -- not necessary -- the flavor was there without the extra fat. my friend got the fried shrimp and fries and it was ... just .... OK. You tell me how ANYTHING fried is just OK. It doesn't make sense. Shrimp tasted like it had been frozen. I'm not saying it was -- just saying it tasted like it. Oh and my friend got the LAST order of Dungeness Crab and didn't even eat it -- said it gave him the ick. But, in fairness -- it was the last bit of it. Still, the chefs should only want to serve the best and this was not it! The New England clam chowder though = DELICIOUS. it was the fave of everything we ordered. I'd go back, but I'd go on a weekday when they are not so slammed. I bet the food is better and I hate waiting in line for food especially when it's just OK.

It's a it of a drive from Long Beach, but for a special occasion, well worth it! If you live or are visiting locally (Malibu or Santa Monica), easy and pretty drive North on PCH. Our adult son made our reservation in Open Table and noted it was for a special occasion, a Birthday (mine). Nowadays, that note is rarely recognized by restaurants and most use Open Table for their reservations! Upon arrival at the hostess station, we were asked who's birthday and said Happy Birthday, and again by the Hostess that brought us to our table, and then by our sever. I felt so special and acknowledged! It's these small gestures that truly make the difference and a very lasting impression! Casey was our server and he was excellent. Helped to make suggestions and answer questions. Checked back often with each course to make sure everything was as expected. The other staff helping to serve and bus, very friendly and helpful. For drinks, I ordered a Mimosa and my husband and son both ordeted cappuccino, all excellent. They have an excellent cocktail and wine menu. Rolls came out piping hot, nice touch! For appetizers, we started with Crab Cakes and Heirloom Tomatoes with Burrata. Burrata is house made and it shows! Both were so good and I would highly recommend ordering. They have many great options for starters! For entrees, I ordered the Chocolate Chip Challah French Toast. It came with Chicken Sausage and Frsh Fruit. Too much to eat after appetizers (generous portions) but happily took some home. The chicken sausage was very good. First time I have had chicken sausage and liked it! Our son ordered The Eggs Benedict (with prosciutto). He lived the Hollandaise saucen had a kick. I tried his potaoes, red roasted and very good. He also had fresh fruit with his entree. It was the first time we had fruit in more than a week (the parasite scare!) and it was wonderful to have fruit one knew was freshly cut (rinds still attached) and tasted so wonderful, really missed it! My husband ordered the Hangar Steak and Eggs. He absolutely loved the steak and the accompanying Avocado Cilantro! There are so any great options for Brunch Entrees, hard to choose but think.we chose well. We had absolutely no room for dessertsn although the dessert menu looks wonderful! Birthday cake awaiting at home! Our server, Casey, brought out a scoop of Vanilla Bean, house made, with a candle. Again, very nice touch and another way to recognize my birthday! It was delicious! Dinner menu looks wonderful and they have a nice bar area. Wouldn't hesitate to stop by for a deink if I was in the area! The views are absolutely stunning. The restaurant opens up completely the outdoors (sliding glass doors) and has a spacious patio with lots of umbrellas to produce great shade! Parking is Valet, $15 added to your bill, very convenient. Valet waa very polite and friendly. Thank you Geoffrey's for a wonderful Brunch for my birthday!

I actually showed up on a Friday afternoon just before 5 pm around 4:45 and put my name down. Around 4:55 there was easily 15-20 people outside the door who had been on the waitlist. We all fit into the first seating at 5 so no sweat there. There was even an open seat next to me that was filled by a drop in a few min after opening. The sushi- so.freaking.good. Charming place, tiny but with efficient and experienced service so everything comes out fast. Huge rolls and nigiri. Doesn't feel as expensive because of the generous cuts of fish. Everything is tasty and I end up ordering more than I should given the large portions but no complaints. Sweet shrimp is exceptional as well as their crispy rice. The stuffed squid was good but I would ask for the eel sauce on the side because the crab mix is also sweet, so the sweetness can be overpowering. I don't recommend the ikura bc of the heavy sake marinade but you may feel differently. The ikura has been the one and only item I wouldn't get again. Everything else has been fantastic. This is an entirely different experience to sugarfish. Shibuya is willing to make dishes to your taste, so if you don't want something on a particular dish or you want a special dish not on the menu, just tell your server. Everything can be customized which I really like. Sugarfish by comparison is extremely simple and utilitarian and has a factory quality to it that Shibuya is the complete opposite to. They really shouldn't be compared. If I'm low on time and didn't plan well enough, sugarfish is a reliable spot to get adequate sushi without the preplanning and waiting, but shibuya is a superior experience, imho. Happy eating!
