Overall food options include: complete Sushi Bar (10 types of rolls), Fruit Bar (watermelon, pineapple, honeydew, etc) Dessert Bar (cakes, cookies, pudding, store-bought ice cream cups), peanut butter chicken, chicken wings, Mongolian beef, French fries, Chinese donuts, fried shrimp, prawns, fish sole, squid, dumplings, and much more! The service was decent, not overly friendly but attentive enough for our liking. The look of the restaurant outside is pretty outdated, and inside matches fairly well. I visited the New China Buffet while in Salem on business. Their lunch buffet was comprehensive and good. The day I was there it was half full of people. The restaurant was clean and bathrooms were clean as well. Their food was the usual Chinese buffet fare and was presented hot. The cooks were perpetually refilling and keeping things topped off. The service was good. Waitresses were constantly clearing my dishes and refilling my soda. Here is the straight scoop. I used to like this restaurant back when the buffet was cheaper, the lackluster dishes played second fiddle to the charm of a steam table joint, blah blah blah. But I just took my daughter and her friend to dinner and the bill took my breath away: $62 for three plates of incredibly mediocre Chinese food. So here is the lowdown I have been holding back all these years in deference to supporting a dive with quirky charm. 1) The place is horribly unclean in two specific ways--take your choice which is worse. Yes, the carpet is miserable and greasy, the bathrooms are smelly and filthy, the leatherette of the booths shabby and torn. But the food is also poorly prepared: the salt-and-pepper shrimp still have the black poop veins running down their backside, the squid are the same, and both those things put together mean I have never even tried the mussels. Too risky! 2) The food is bland and prepared without panache. Specifically, the fried rice and steamed rice are not fluffy, they are heavy, wet and mushy. The chow mein is consistently overcooked and flavorless. There are a variety of deep-fried dishes that only gain flavor when drowned with a flagon of sweet/sour sauce available in plastic dental cups. The sushi bar is OK but nothing special. All the food has a run-down, depressing vibe, as if the chefs in the kitchen have all been taking anti-depressants with little success. 3) The prices are astronomical! Considering all of the above, I would say perhaps $12 per plate would be fair. Also the drinks should be free, as the Pepsi products are the only thing on the menu that can be depended on. And they should not charge the same price for a 12-year-old child as a full-grown adult. My kids don't eat that much. My advice: there is a Panda Express just down the street where the food is fresher and the prices are half of China Buffet. Go there. You will not find culinary satisfaction at China Buffet, and the cute "atmosphere" is no longer worth it. read more

They put it on a plate for you, then bring it around the Plexiglass to you. There is Mongolian BBQ that they heat up on a special Grill. You let the server know how much : Chicken, Beef, Pork, Shrimp, etc. Meats. Then you pick the amount if noodles, veggies, Tofu, etc. Then what sauces to cook with. Sushi area, you let that server know how many if what type if roll pieces you would like. They put them on your plate then hand it to you. Then there is three rows of traditional buffet items. We love this place. It's the only place we go to eat when we are in this town. It was better before the pandemic, no question, but still the best bang for your buck. We take home our favorites and even reheated they are satisfying. I can't think of anywhere else that you can buy prepared food for $10.00 a pound. The senior discount makes it even more affordable. First time here and it was wonderful. This is the FIRST ASIAN BUFFET I have ever been too were the workers dont stare at you every second that you are eating! There was 7 ppl working out in front and they were all super nice. The food wasnt the best nothing special , but it wasnt horrible and they kept putting out fresh food. My favorite was the chicken sticks and fried shrimp! They also have a Mongolian grill and a large sushi selection, and it was amazing and tasted fresh! Every so often I get a craving for cheap chinese food-- orange chicken, sweet and sour, etc and I end up at new china buffet. The problem is that their dishes often fall short. The last two times I came here, I also ended up getting sick. The orange chicken they serve has a very standard sauce, but the breading on the chicken is soggy and comes off very easily. Overall the dish is soggy and mushy. The buffet line is sometimes not properly heated and the food stays at a 'warm' temperature. New China buffet is a bit sub-standard for an american-chinese buffet. Their highlight is the Teppanyaki station but as far as the rest of the food goes, it's edible but not great. Price is standard in corvallis, I think its around 11 dollars a person but it may be higher than that To sum my review: I do not think this place is worth the price read more

I love a good chinese buffet. Sadly, this is not it. The best item in the buffet was their Peanut Butter Chicken. My husband and I both loved it and I'd recommend it. However, that was about the only thing we liked. I literally had to spit out the sushi because the fish tasted so bad. Obviously, I did this discreetly into a napkin....I'm not a heathen. At no fault to the restaurant, our evening was also ruined by two families that were seated near us. One had three children that were allowed to run wild throughout the whole place. They used their bare hands to grab food from the buffet. I watched one child grab a chicken skewer and then put it back! Ew! He kept grabbing shrimp and then hurling the tails across the dining room to his table. Double ew!! The second family was encouraging their toddler to scream, screech and squeal THE WHOLE TIME!!
