Suit quality at SuitSupply UTC La Jolla is genuinely excellent. The store itself is beautiful, the fabrics are impressive, and the overall product feels premium. Unfortunately, the service experience has been the complete opposite. I've now had TWO appointments there, both scheduled in advance, and both times I arrived on time only to wait well over 30 minutes before even being acknowledged properly. In both cases, I eventually received a text saying they were "ready" for me long after my appointment time had already passed. On my most recent visit, I checked in for a 6 PM appointment, was told it would be "about five minutes," then sat waiting while the store was relatively quiet. Once I was finally brought back, I was told the sales associate I had been booked with was unavailable and someone else would step in while she finished another fitting. Then I sat in the fitting room alone for another several minutes with nobody assisting me. The first experience was somehow worse. I checked in, waited, then eventually decided to reschedule because it was obvious the store was overwhelmed. During that process, the employee helping me repeatedly forgot my name despite already checking me in multiple times. Earlier during that same visit, another associate had forgotten the suit sizes, colors, and event deadlines I had already explained. What's frustrating is that this isn't a budget suit shop trying to survive high volume traffic. SuitSupply presents itself as a premium experience, and at these price points, basic organization, punctuality, and attentiveness should be expected. I genuinely like the suits, which makes this even more disappointing. But after multiple appointments with the same issues, the service feels disorganized, inattentive, and far below the standard the brand projects. read more

Now I will say the overall experience is truly great and if you are wanting to create something fully custom I do think this is worth it. It is expensive but you know what isn't when it comes it to weddings. The amount of options they have are really great and makes you feel that you can fully make this suit exactly what you would want it to be! I loved the way my now husbands suit turned out the jacket is something that he will be able to wear for years to come and have a special memory for us when he does. I don't think I've ever had such a rude customer experience - now multiple times here. The level of self importance by employees is astounding. I had never even heard of this store until this year? Not one of the employees has made us feel warm, heard, taken care of or cared for, now two times going in to look at suits/tuxedos for our wedding. You walk in and instead of saying, "how can we help you? How do you feel in it?". It's a purely transactional experience, rude, abrasive and it's not cheap nor is it even the best quality. I don't know where the employees in here come off? Most of the time, you actually need to get the attention of one of the few associates - then they tell you, you *must* have an appointment because they're "so busy" or you can sign up to wait, which we did this time. That's not even the point - it's how you communicate it. I didn't realize Suit Supply was a wannabe Hermes. We went to Nordstrom and it was a night and day experience. Left with the customer service that is deserved at this price point, and then some, and a beautiful Hugo Boss suit - including tailoring. Management and employees at SS - check yourselves. You'd make a lot more money and have customers leave happier when making a purchase, which in turn will bring you much more business and higher acclaim. Disappointing Experience from Start to Finish On the day of the fitting, after my fiance waiting almost an hour, we were told that the associate wasn't available due to a last-minute issue. Another staff member stepped in, but instead of providing great service, they rushed him through the process and made him feel uncomfortable. He ended up buying a suit just to get it over with. When I found out what happened, I went to the store the same day to address it. I asked who had originally refused to help him, but no one would give me a direct answer. I later learned the person was in the store during my visit and did not speak up. To their credit, they did provide a full refund -- even without my fiancé present with his card -- which I appreciate. However, that does not erase how poorly the situation was handled from the very beginning. I've attached photos of the purchase receipt, the refund receipt, and an image taken in-store during my visit to document the experience. Buyer Beware: Suits rip easily. This is the second suit jacket that has ripped at the elbow after bending my arm. I brought the first suit jacket in to get repaired and explained what happened. A staff member was very dismissive and said I was wrong and it caught on something. I gave the benefit of doubt and got it repaired in store. Not too long later a second suit jacket rips at the elbow after bending arm. Not only that but the inside stitching is causing the inner sleeve to become detached and the pants are ripping near the seam. I've had this suit awhile, but the first one that ripped at the elbow has been owned for less than a year. read more

Im not super formal and normally don't spend this much on things but figured it was time to make a nicer purchase that I can use for the a long period of time. I was helped by Marta, who by the way is awesome. She first looked at me like I was crazy coming in with such short notice but she worked with me and found exactly what I was looking for. She looked at me and picked a jacket basically witout measuring me. it fit me PERFECTLY. She did grab me multiple to try but I found what I needed quickly and it looked great. Pants were hemmed quickly and I was able to pick up my outfit a couple days later. This rating is for the customer experience, not the suits. The suits are expensive but beautiful, and nice quality. Is it a requirement that you have to talk so fast the customer can't get a word in to work here? My fiancé and I came here to get a custom suit for our wedding. The sales associate talked him out of getting anything custom multiple times, clearly because he didn't want to go the extra mile to make sure we got what we wanted. My fiancé agreed to get a suit off the rack but still wanted custom shirts. He was shot down over and over about everything. He said multiple times his pants were too tight, and that the collar on his shirt was too tight, and the sales associate told him he needed to "suck it up". The suit was nice so he ended up buying it, but he left disappointed with the experience. When it was time to pick the suit up, we made sure to book the appointment with someone different to get the custom shirt. MAC is the only good sales associate there! Mac was patient and let my fiancé pick out all the details for his custom shirt, including an engraving. When my fiancé put on his pants, they were SO TIGHT and uncomfortable. We told Mac we kept trying to tell the last guy he was taking them in too much, but he refused to listen. Mac agreed they were too tight and we got them taken out. This day was a better experience. Finally when it was time to pick up everything, we had more rude sales associates "helping" us. No one greets us, we have to walk up and let someone know we have an appointment. They all act arrogant and dismissive like we are bothering them. I couldn't get out of there fast enough because the energy from the male sales associates made me so uncomfortable. Going to buy a suit is something I was not looking forward to. But I needed to get one for my daughter's wedding. I arrived at Suitsupply not knowing what to expect. I was greeted by Ricardo who asked me what I was looking for. I told him a black suit for a wedding. Once he had an idea of what style of suit I was looking for I tried on two different styles. Ricardo was patient and answered all my questions. He described the differences in the materials of the various suits and how they would feel. I NEVER felt pressured or steered towards one specific suit. Ricardo kept asking me how the suits felt, making sure the fit was comfortable as well as it fitting me right. Went into suit supply in desperate need for help. I don't have much fashion sense (if any at all) and I was going to be getting married in about 6 months. I walked in to the shop and everyone was super helpful. The person or stylist who helped me out was Axl. I owe that man so much. I told him everything I wanted about my tuxedo and he was able to use everything I said and turn it into a masterpiece. Even better than anything I actually imagined. I talked to him about the tux needing to be light/breathable material. Check. I talked about a dark dark blue. Check. I wanted it personalized. He had my wedding date sewn underneath the collar. His service was impeccable. No pressure or anything. He was very polite and very knowledgeable. I would recommend him to everyone. I didn't know it until the day of my wedding, but there's such a huge difference between custom tailored suits and tuxes and rentals. The material was amazing. The man at the door at this location was rude and short with me which already made me want to leave but I decided to be patient and let him get me with an advisor who may nicer since he'd be helping me with my suit. The advisor was nicer but he talked so fast as if he had too much coffee. I had to ask him to slow down multiple times. *Note: I am talking about a few locations but this review is specifically about San Diego location. My review about our experience in Newport is on their page. When my boyfriend was fitted in Newport, they did not have the size in store or online. Our advisor in Newport recommended that we contact San Diego asap and ask them to hold it for us. He gave us the size that he fitted him and style number to provide to San Diego. We contacted San Diego and luckily they had the size and we're able to hold it for us for 24 hours. We took the drive down to San Diego from Irvine the next day. We arrived when they first opened without an appointment. They were able to help us right away and our advisor was Andrew. However the problem is that our advisor in Newport did not give us the right size. When they had my boyfriend try on the suit we asked to hold, it was small. He was not properly fitted and we drove all the way to San Diego for the wrong size. Unfortunately, they did not have the size he needed in San Diego store. The only store that had the size we needed was in Virginia and not available online. Andrew said he would contact Virginia to send the suit to Newport and keep in contact with us. Andrew contacted my boyfriend via email and said that Newport will be receiving the suit from Virginia and Newport should follow up and contact us directly. However, we were not contacted by Newport so we contacted Newport ourselves. They had no idea what my boyfriend was asking about. He keep telling my boyfriend they were short staff and didn't have time to look up the information. We respect and understand that it's difficult when it is short staff but all we were looking for was how can they help us get the suit. He said he wanted to contact San Diego first and he would call us back but he never did. No accountability. My boyfriend called Newport the next day to see if it was all figured out. No response from Newport so we called San Diego. Mila answered the call and she was wonderful. We explained the situation and she said she will see what she can do for us. She saw that the suit was back on stock online so she ordered it for us. We had it sent to our house so we did not need to go back to the store. We were short on time so she expedited the shipping and waived the fees. She said they will figure out the whole Newport situation and we don't need to worry about it. Thank you so much Mila! We received the suit in the mail 3 days later. We finally got it all figured it out a whole week later. I have this rating at 4 stars only because the whole situation with this company was an annoyingly stressful situation. Customer service and communication within the the store and other locations are poor. However our experience at San Diego has been positive. They always tried to help us get the suit even if it was not successful. At the end they were the ones to finish the transaction and have it sent to our house. I'm sure our situation was unique and doesn't happen all the time BUT I would make sure to double check everything, look at the sizes yourself, check online, see all your options before confirming anything so you don't waste your time! If you have to shop at SuitSupply, I recommend going to San Diego location and avoid the Newport location because San Diego will take the time and help you with your order. read more

To start off, I was very interested in the prospect of getting a custom tux from SS after hearing great reviews online. Unfortunately, this was one of the most uncomfortable customer service experiences I've had in recent memory. I set up an appointment with one of the current associates (won't give his name), he was rushing me through the entire process. This was supposed to be a tuxedo for my upcoming wedding and it felt like he was trying to get me out of the door in 20 minutes (no joke, my "1-hour appointment" ended in 25 minutes). I am a very slim guy and as such I wanted to get a Custom tux made with measurements. He did not take any measurements and instead INSISTED that I would fit off-the-rack, to my extreme surprise (I never ever fit off the rack for any suit). He put me in jacket that felt alright, but with a sample shirt and pants that absolutely did not fit my proportions properly whatsoever. Again, no measurements were taken at all, and kept insisting that the shirt was the absolute slimmest they had, despite it billowing out like crazy. Also when I expressed interest to taper the pants more, and to have a smaller leg opening, he quite bluntly kept shooting me down and saying that I actually wanted a larger leg opening and a straighter leg. A suit's pants fit is subjective to an extent, and the associate took absolutely no input from me and kept imposing his style (he was wearing a pretty relaxed fit suit) and rushing past my suggestions. My friend that came with me also echoed his discomfort. Simply put, the associate was insistent on fitting me OTR with extremely minimal alterations, trying to push the tux package which I did not need or ask for, and kept quickly shooting down my input. He acted condescendingly as if he assumed that I had never owned a suit before and did not know what I wanted, even though I tried to give input several times. This completely soured my experience from the store and led me to go elsewhere for a MTM tuxedo, across the mall. Perhaps if I had a different associate the experience would have been better, but this was truly awful. read more

Came in today in desperate need for a suit for my husband for this upcoming weekend. Was referred by a good friend who said we had to check the place out! For starters, the store was WOW! So clean and contemporary, transports you to another world. We were greeted by the tailor staff in the front and a very nice woman who took our info. Even though I did not have an appointment, I was paired with Andrew, who very patiently explained everything to me, and showed me what to look for in terms of fit. While I unfortunately was not able to purchase a suit on the evening that I stopped by, as my proportions dictated that I would need a custom jacket. This has to be the worst suit buying experience I've ever had. I purchased a suit for my brother in law's wedding. I was told it would arrive within 2-3 days. I got a message that it arrived and went to the store. I waited for thirty minutes only to find out they had lost the suit. They said they'd express order me the other one and ensure the tailoring could be done in time. I got a message two days later that the suit had arrived and I had the suit measured for alterations. I was already annoyed I went back twice for the same service, more so when they ordered the wrong shirts for the wedding. I needed a plain white shirt. They ordered striped. But whatever, I had to buy a shirt from them to get by and I just needed everything ready, so I left. I then got a message it was ready and went back to the store for the fourth time. Went back, picked the suit up and returned home. When I get home, turns out they didn't even alter the suit! It's 36 hours before I leave and after 5 trips and over a thousand dollars, I have a useless, unaltered suit. I have never felt with a less professional clothing company in my life. Now I'm left trying to find emergency alterations to correct something that I already was charged for and spent five separate visits trying to attain. Absolutely awful. read more

I left their store defeated. but then saw the shining beacon of greatness that is Suit Supply and went inside with my girl. Despite having no appointment, Gabriel was still able to help us immediately after helping another customer wrap things up. I told him what I needed and... Let me rephrase that. My girlfriend told him what I needed and the first suit I tried on was perfect. Tried on a couple more but in the end, Gabriel's first pick was right on the money both in fit and style. From start to finish though, the experience was flawless and Gabriel seemed incredibly knowledgeable about everything we asked and details we should have asked if we knew as much as he does. (Tragically Gabriel is moving up to a management position at their front office so you will no longer have this option. I mean... not tragic for him. Fantastic for him. But sucks for us!)
