Went to Sul & Beans for a Saturday mid-morning snack. Got a Fresh Mango Bingsoo to share. The mango was decent and the ice really hit the spot. We made a bit of a mess pouring on the evaporated milk as some of it ran straight off the mango and out of the bowl. I'd recommend eating a little bit of the dish before pouring on the milk. My wife and I got drinks and my cousin and I shared a Taro Bingsoo. The drinks were tea based and I liked mt Strawberry Citron. I wanted a lighter option and didn't feel like a milk tea. The spot was PACKED! It was full of energy and full of foot traffic we were lucky to get a table. The Taro Bingoo looked extraordinary. All that taro goodness on the top and condensed milk drizzled all over. I had few bites and it was impressive. It's not a heavy dessert, but the combo if shaved ice/milk with toppings make it a memorable experience. Definitely good for sharing with others. Kind of disappointed with the quality of the banana bingsu because they put noticeably less granola. For the price I would assume they would have the same quality bingsu or at least measure the ingredients to keep the right amount consistently but I was disappointed to say the least. When we went our order was a bit of a wait since it was really busy we had to scout for a table. The boong uh bbang was delicious, we ordered the hotteok and matcha custard and the flavors was delightful with the matcha being a bitter yet savory bite and the hotteok was unique because we've never tried a peanut taste. The ambiance was a bit crowded when we went and it did give clean space with a studio vibes with great lighting. Well worth the wait. Packed but there's a reason. I have not had anything like this before and it's wonderful. I chose black sesame bingsoo and it was delicious. The shaved ice is very fine, and It had a nice helping of red bean paste, sesame dusted over with nuts and a sweet milk to drizzle over. It looked overloaded, with way too much mango piled on top, and it immediately started sliding and dripping everywhere. It was hard to even enjoy because it turned into a sticky mess within minutes. Waited 30 minutes just to be disappointed. The hot drink was completely overpowered by grapefruit, so much so that it drowned out every other flavor that was supposed to be there. It ended up tasting unbalanced and honestly hard to enjoy. The mango dessert didn't help the experience either. The presentation was messy and unappealing, and the flavors didn't come together in a way that made sense. It felt thrown together rather than thoughtfully prepared. To make things worse, the utensils were dirty and had noticeable watermarks. My lady had to wipe them down herself before we could even use them, which is something you shouldn't have to deal with anywhere. Grabbing Bingsoo on a date night has become a recurring thing with sul n beans. It's a fun, lighter dessert that's great for sharing, and the hot taiyaki pairs great with it. We've tried a fruit version and the Oreo one, and the Oreo is the favorite so far. One bowl is plenty for two people or even up to 4+ to share. The taiyakis with Nutella and custard go well dipped in the Bingsoo, or add a nice warm bite to offset the cold. Each bingsoo also comes with a small serving of CONDENSED MILK, which you can request extra if you wanted. THE SPECIFICS, here's what I've tried so far: -- GREEN TEA (5/5) My gateway! One of the more sophisticated flavors. Green tea flavor on point, topped with red bean, mochi, and sliced almonds. --MANGO (5/5) This is probably the most highly sought-after, as it was sold out on the second visit. The mango chunks are so sweet and ripe. --TARO (5/5) Give me purple! I love anything taro/ube by default. A lot of textures in this one, from the red bean and mochi and coconut chips. --FRESH STRAWBERRY (3/5) Probably my least favorite so far. The strawberry flavor within the shaved ice just too sweet and artificial. Seating has been packed and busy. There is a separate queue to wait in as tables open up. Make sure you ask for additional condense milk on the side! If you don't want shaved ice, they offer drinks such as coffee and tea. We also got 5 pieces of Nutella filled boong uh bbang. This is the Korean version of the Japanese Taiyaki. Korean is a carp fish and Japanese is a sea bream shape. As far as taste, they taste the same to me.
