We wanted a place not very far from the airport to enjoy our last Chicago meal. This location did not disappoint. Although it is a counter service they decided that our larger than usual group warranted an extra service of delivery to our tables that were nicely set up outside on the front parking lot. We ordered chicken and beef shawerma platters and wraps. They were both crispy and chewy grilled nicely to satisfy. Kebabs were also ordered and they came well enough to earn the above average accolades from all the gang. Hummus and green salad were nice and fresh but none was drizzled in the usual olive oil. While we were there for lunch we noticed a steady stream of pick-up orders and even dine-in customers almost all going for the shawerma wraps. We agreed that those would be our top choices in future visits to this or other branches. read more

This little place gave us some of the most genuine Mediterranean flavors we've tried. I ordered the Combination platter. It was a Chicken Kebab, beef kebab and Kifta kebab with a big side of rice and salad. We also ordered the grape leaves. The flavors were exceptional and were seasoned perfectly. Turkish guys have their version of Mediterranean food right. What can I say. Very high average review rating speaks for itself. Chicken shawarma was juicy and very delicious.Bakery had tasty treats too. The staff was very friendly and it also has very clean dining area. I can't wait to come back and try more things! I had the chili chicken wrap and it was delicious and spicy.  I tasted my wife food he had one of the combo platters that came with chili chicken and a ground meat kabob. Pretty casual spot to grab Mediterranean food and in addition they have some assorted baked goods and even offer Turkish coffee. Stopped by this one this past weekend to have some lunch. It was pretty empty when we showed up but 15 minutes after seated the surrounding tables filled up quickly. Service was prompt and food came out fresh as ordered. We tried the lentil soup, and shared the vegetarian combo and shawarma combo. Lentil soup was excellent, loved the all around hearty flavors. Vegetarian combo was a bit of a miss in my opinion. Aside from the babagonush & hummus wasn't really a fan of the grape leaves or falafels. Will say the rice that came with the shawarma combo was bomb. The chicken and beef shawarma were sliced thin and just alright. Overall an a-okay meal. I ordered the grilled beef kabob and Hummus to go. I didn't think it was that good but it was decent. The rice was perfectly cooked and the food was fresh, but, the beef was a bit dry and the hummus didn't have a lot of flavor. Food is decent but the lady who works the register acts like she is annoyed to see people walk in the door. Very unfriendly and glares. Noticed she smiled at some customers but she barely even acknowledged me and my husband when we placed our order. Get a new job if you don't like people lady! Also the place is not clean. Looks like a place will get myself in trouble. Kebab and baklava??? As a first timer, both of us looked at menu with a puzzled face. One customer before us just said combination plate for lunch is great.. we took his advice and ordered the one with chicken and falafal. Usually you wait a bit and take your food from the counter. Somehow we got a special treatment to get served at the table. Maybe I ordered a nice cupe of green tea and the mini baklava. Chicken Kebabs were perfectly seasoned and not overly seasoned. Grilled just right which was gold brown outside and still tender flavorful in side. Side salad was fresh with nice dressing. Baklava was heavenly with pistachio on the top. Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. The one gave us suggestion (must be a regular) stopped by and checked on us. Very happy to hear we loved the food. Services were great for us. I felt like a Rollie Pollie by the time I finished my lunch! The Sultan is located on the corner of Cumberland Ave @ Argyle. On 9/11, I stopped in because I was craving their delicious Mediterranean cuisine. I left some of my salad and chicken kabobs on my plate. Annie (our dog) will be doing flips for the chicken kabobs she is getting as a treat today. Their chicken kabobs have a very distinct char grill taste. They are moist and huge! It was after 1 pm when I stopped in for a late lunch break. Service was very slow. I waited about 12-15 minutes for my food. There were customers eating inside, and more than half of the customers already had their food. Also, there were no sauces on the table. I had to borrow another customer's bottle of sauce for my lonely falafel. The guys who work here never smile. They are always very serious. They aren't friendly, but at least they are courteous & polite. The owner is super nice. Personable. Friendly. Kind. He has a very jovial and outgoing personality. The restaurant is less than 15 minutes from O'Hare Airport. I mentioned this fact in case there are any business people looking for a Mediterranean restaurant not too far away from O'Hare Airport. We found this gem on May 17th during our stay in Chicago. Staff is super friendly and helpful, it was clear that a positive dining experience was of high importance. Then the food. I have been eating a lot of Mediterranean food lately. Sultan kabob has pretty good Mediterranean food. The owner is super nice and very friendly. When he found out it was our first time there he gave us a small bowl of lentil soup. We all ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich as it was late and I have been reducing my food intake trying to lose weight (so far I've lost 8 lbs since Jan 11th). We did order a side of hummus. The hummus, bowl of lentil soup and 1/2 Chicken Shawarma was enough to satiate my hunger and I had a 1/2 sandwich for lunch today. Like I said the food was pretty good, but to me nothing really stood out. Great service and reasonable prices. read more

1st time I came here was at the end of Covid and the lunch specials were missing falafel or kabob choices. I've been back twice since then and those choices are back. However, they're nothing to write home about. Neither is the shawarma. Falafel pretty dry actually; and the kabobs dry and lacking any real flavor. And don't get me started on the hummus. Upon entering, customers will be greeted by a tantalizing display of bakery items, including a whole plethora of baklava items. If you're a fan of puff pastry and assorted fillings, this is your new dessert haven. The lunch bunch will be delighted by the Middle Eastern fare offered by Sultan Kebab & Bakery. I ordered the lunch combo as suggested by the owner and my mother ordered one of the vegetarian specials. Both come with falafel, though mine also came with chicken and beef shawarma. The portions were quite generous and included a side of warm pita bread and a tahini-blended sauce. The food came out in a few minutes, piping hot and well-seasoned. I came here for dinner before flying out of O'hare, and it was delicious. Hummus and any of the kebab plates will fill you up. Their portions are very generous. For our group of six, two plate orders satisfied our stomachs. I enjoyed the Mediterranean flavors and so did my friends. Are we all eating at the same place? WHAT HAPPENED? Sultan used to make great food, well seasoned, and was worth every penny. Just had the combination plate, and lentil soup. The soup was bland and watery a far cry from the rich and flavorful soup they served before. The combination plate was filled 3/4 with greasy rice, the kefta was dry, and only served 4 pc. of chicken and beef. Sultan used to tray their plates with sumac and pine nuts, gave grilled onion and tomato. Now there's nothing. I know restaurants are tightening their belts due to the economy but if they continue to let the quality of their food suffer, then the price won't be justifiable. read more

Around my area and delicious..? Yes. This is my second time coming here and I don't regret it. I'm a huge fan of chicken kabob plates and when I heard they had them I had to try one. First off their chicken.. SO tasty and well seasoned. Rice and salad both pretty good too. With tax and a drink my order came around to 12.00 which is a decent price. I will be coming back here to try their tabouleh salad and over dishes. The hot sauce is also pretty good. If you love hot sauce like me you have to try it. Ordered take out tonight and got the combination plate, baba ganoush and 6pc falafels. We drove in at 6pm and despite it being in a small plaza there were a few parking spots in front. Customer service seems good so far and the store is clean. They seem to have a variety of desserts like baklava which I still have yet to try. The combination plate is on point! I love the rice pilaf, the tenderness of their meats, small salad is fresh and their is bread is still soft and moist the next day. We should have ordered before getting there but our wait time was a little over 15 minutes. Overall, the food is good, service is good but the cost is a little pricey. The combo plate by itself is like $16. A little priciee than Pita Inn but quality of food is better. I didn't really like their falafels, it has an interesting taste that I wasn't into. read more

This place is not worth the money! I was excited to try it because of all the positive ratings and the Hungry Hound recommended it but was very disappointed. I ordered the chicken shawarma and the meat was old, dry and cold with a pathetic salad, just mixed greens and one old half slice of tomato that had been in the frig for awhile. $16+ Cashier said they only had chicken and when I went up for my food, saw beef up on the spit too! I hate being lied to and overcharged for bad food. Pita bread was the only good thing about it! I looked around and other people had hot food. Maybe because I was the only white guy in the joint! Never coming back. Such a shame because I'm always looking for a good place to eat around O'Hare. Wish Pita BBQ was closer ! read more
