The food was disappointing. The menu and the prices were good big portions . I had the lentil soup fell flat. I Tried the combination special for lunch. The Kefta was good. The beef Shawarma and the chicken Shawarma were very dry. The rice was very good. The onions were nice. They weren't hot. They must soak them in water. My boyfriend had the burger special. the burger was really good. It was Char grilled the french fries were excellent. I would literally come back and just order french fries. They were that good . The service was lacking you order at the counter and then you go pick it up, which is fine, but I just felt kind of slighted, and the service was an equal. There are some policeman that were there ahead of us, and I noticed how she catered to them and brought the food to them and with us she just kind of ignored us and wasn't that great Service goes a long way and I usually definitely go for the food, but it doesn't hurt to have good customer service. The picture of the burger didn't represent what we had . I wanted another bite of the burger . Half a A sandwich left and no more meat. There was a wait and soup was tepid and the food was tepid . Catered a small Friendsgiving for 8 and ordered a combo platter (which comes w a small hummus and salad) for 7 with an order of falafel and tub of hot sauce and it came to just under $100 before taxes. We usually end up spending $150 or more when we cater from middle eastern places in the city so we like to tip them 20% bc they always so easy to work with and bc the prices are so reasonable. Was in the mood for some Mediterranean food so decided to order some takeout from here. Enjoyed my meal very much! Placed my order over the phone with no issues. Food was ready 20 minutes later. I ordered the chicken kabob meal, which came with a salad and pickled cabbage!? Wasn't the biggest fan of the cabbage but the salad was great. Chicken was was fresh and delicious! By far the best falafel I have had to date! I always stick with the combo plate, it has the best of all worlds: chicken kafta, beef shawirma, rice, some type of other delicious beef and chicken. It's pretty great. Falafel balls were asked for separately//not included in the combo meal. They were a little dry the last time I had it but it was still pretty great. Not too salty and just the right amount of crunch. Only about 3 or so tables inside. Location is small so it more of a to-go order joint. Desserts sold fresh and I'm dying to try their delicious looking baklava. Pretty friendly service as well and decent prices. It's definitely my favorite Mediterranean food thus far. This is a mom and pop operation and they have a quite decent lunch special for $6.99 which I tried today.  We've actually had some catered, good-value large family meals from here but I've never personally stepped in or ordered from here before.  I liked the rice and pita bread in their lunch special better here than say Pita Inn.  The meat, at least for my lunch today, was in the OK range and about the same quality as Pita Inn - it had been sitting around just a little bit, but no real complaints given the price point.  It's calm here and they have 4 little tables inside and 3 tables outside if one wants to eat in.  I'll likely return sooner or later. read more

I've had every cuisine from almost every country making Middle Eastern food except for a couple: I've eaten Moroccan, Tunisian, Israeli, Lebanese, Syrian, Persian, Yemeni, Turkish, Greek, Jordanian, and today I had Iraqi. Located in Niles, IL, my son introduced me to the Detroit Kabob House, and it was fantastic! Up until now, my favorite taste from that region was Syrian. Don't get me wrong; all of the flavors from all of the countries I mentioned above are unique and delicious. But, Iraqi food was less garlicky, rich in their own unique spices, and the use of raw onion was a fantastic enhancement. My son had the char-broiled chicken breast plate marinated in lemon with yellow rice with a tahini sauce. I had the lunch sampler with chicken shawarma, grilled lamb, and grilled beef resting on yellow rice and a falafel ball to boot. All of this delicious food came with a side of raw onions and a rich tahini condiment. Certain foods fire off a trigger in my head to have one beverage; I drink six Coca-Cola's a year, depending on what I'm eating. If it's a pastrami on rye, I have a Coke. If it's a Mediterranean Combo plate, I have a Coke. My Coke today paired with my lunch like a ribeye steak pairs with a cabernet sauvignon. I've heard a lot of great things about this place so my expectations were a little high. I was disappointed. I ordered the chicken kabob plate. The chicken was missing flavor and it was way over cooked - it looks like a little bit of sumac was sprinkled on top, no other flavors. The cabbage salad honestly tasted old. I'll give this five stars! Such a gem in a small strip mall. Im sure you will not notice it while passing by Milwaukee ave. In Niles. Outside it says bakery a d carry-out but they have 4 seating places to eat-in. I ordered the beef kafta combo platter and hubby ordered the combination which has chicken, beef and gyros/shawarma. Yummy! Love the yellow rice too! My hubby is very picky and i cant even swayed him to any mediterranean food places but he loved it! The order came fast served with pita breads and sauce. read more

I tried the lunch special plate and the savory pies and both were really good. I am Brazilian and in Brazil "esfihas" (mini savory pies, like empanadas) are very popular. In Chicago Northwest Suburbs we don't have any small Brazilian restaurants or bakeries available and I am so happy that I came to Detroit Kabob House and found those pies which is very similar if not the same as the Brazilian esfihas. Really happy with the group tray options here and value received, as far as quantity of food to what I paid! I ordered a group tray for 10 and 3 (total was about $121), and we had leftovers for days! The meat was a hit, especially the chicken cutlet and grilled beef. Flavorful and tender. My knocks would be that the sauces served alongside everything are really liquidy, and no one really wanted to use them for dipping anyway. Also, in the past, we've tried falafels here, and the oil used was oxidized because they tasted rancid/painty. Blech. Pita is also very thin, but I prefer fluffy, bready pita (gold standard=Naf Naf!). Sufficient parking outside in the lot. As far as indoor seating, there's a couple tables, but I think they thrive on carry out and catering orders. read more

We catered today for a family occasion and ordered a full platter of chicken kafta kabobs , beef kafta kabobs, chicken shawarma ,and also beef shawarma. It was all really good. First time dreadful, second time okay. I was excited to find a middle eastern place slightly closer to home than Pita Inn, with a lunch special to boot. The first time I ordered the special plus a baba ghannouj, which gave me a nice variety of food to try. Everything was bland--four kinds of meat, rice, salad, baba g, everything. It was a lot of food, so a decent value...if you have a cold and can't taste anything. Ordered the combo plate with hummus to try at home. The beef kefta was really good. I really enjoyed the rice as well as the tomato and red onion side. I do have to admit that the hummus was more on the bland side (at least to my palate) and the chicken shawarma was pretty dry. I did get there right around when they opened so maybe the chicken was cooking for a bit. But service was great and while some may complain about the price, the portion was huge! Horrible customer service! The "boss" and owner Jacky, is rude, stingy with portion sizes and openly disagrees with patrons and won't own up to mistakes on order. After I left and had to come back because my order was completely wrong (all meat combo plate when I ordered a falafel plate since I don't eat meat) she proceeded to tell me how I was wrong, asked me to come back and later when I did said I had to pay for another falafel plate, on top of the $33 I already paid for their wrong order. Several reviews on here cite her horrible customer service skills, I should have listened. Do yourself a favor and go to Pita Inn down the street - their business lunch special is delicious and a real treat compared to here! Just look at all the hundreds of happy customers at Pita Inn!! I bought a combo for three plus two beef tikka and paid about sixty dollars but the tray was filled with rice and very little meat not enough for even two. Food quality is just okay . On my daily journey to work, I pass up a multitude of ethnic food choices, one of which that recently caught my eye was Detroit Kabob House; I finally decided to stop in for lunch, and couldn't be happier that I did. Located in a strip mall in Niles just north of Booby's (another Niles classic), you'll miss it if you blink, but make the trip. It's more conducive to take-out being smallish on the inside with room for only a few small tables, and can get busy during lunch, but worth it. Choices are abound with hummus, pitas, schwarma, chicken, beef, salads, and falafel. I had the falafel and chicken kabob wraps, and they were excellent! The falafel was tasty, soft on the inside and fried to perfection. The others in my lunch crew had the combo lunch special which everyone enjoyed, and I have to admit was jealous looking at their meals! Portions are generous and the people are friendly. If you're thinking of going to Naf Naf, turn around and head over to Detroit Kabob. read more

I didn't want to post a negative review but after seeing this place clearly doesn't believe in taking COVID precautions I though I'd share my experience for those trying to be safe. I was there a good 25 minutes after my food was supposed to be ready, so I saw enough to not eat there again. Not only did I see numerous staff members wearing masks incorrectly or not at all, social distancing wasn't enforced. The highlight was when the woman running the register went to the back, ate with her bare hands, put her mask back on and walked out and serve someone a pastry... with her bare hands. I have catered from here twice and they have always always been so understanding of any adjustments to the orders without over charging. The owner is a sweetheart! I have ordered their group platters on more than one occasion- the food is plentiful, fresh, and flavorful (where areas Pita Inn can be dry and bland in contrast). Their One Person Combo Platter is a great value for the amount of food and variety you get. My husband and I share this one platter between the both of us and always have full stomachs after. The Bad: They close early on weekends. With longer hours I feel as if they would be able to get more of the late night crowd (including myself). Pros: Felafal sandwich, pickled vegetables, combo for 1 Cons: Parking might be a little tight Different than pita inn. I'm not sure if it's because whatever area they are from or if one of them is more Americanized. All I know is flavor is great here. Falafel sandwich comes like a grilled burrito with lots of bonus vegetables. The chicken shwarma is moist and flavorful. Definitely going to try some other items that I have no clue about. Been there 3 times in the past 14 months. I usually get the chicken schwarma platter (rice and salad). They put little noodles in the yellow rice (which is a good touch). It doesn't really affect the overall taste of the rice. Just a texture that's all. Chicken is not dry . It's a see through kitchen so things are prepared infront of you.
