I went with a group of 6 adults this past week and realized that the atmosphere no longer outweighs the other nits for us. The restaurant was maybe 80% full, but our servers couldn't find the time to check on us. We had a bottle of wine served, and maybe 15 minutes later needed more wine. We finally got our server's attention and we got more wine. Once our entrees came out, our server and wine guy never came back to our table. We even told them we would like more wine but they never came back with it. We would've bought 4-5 bottles of wine that evening had someone come back to check on us. Instead, we just sipped our waters until we were ready to leave. The food was honestly mediocre all around. The lamb was overcooked and inedible, the eggplant dish was over salted, etc. We liked our dips platter, but it came with a tiny bowl of pita and like three pieces of celery for $24, so most of the dips went uneaten. If someone had asked if we needed more pita or vegetables we would have said yes, even if we had to pay for it. But nobody did. I could go into more details (mansplaining and some belittling all around), but it's not really important. We realized there are restaurants in Chapel Hill that we'd rather visit in the future. I hope Kipo's is able to make some changes because we really love it. But in the meantime we're going to give it a break.

Just went to this new place 'Sultan's' in Beaver Creek near the movie theater. I was pleasantly surprised. The place is clean, roomy and well lit. I ordered a classic gyro platter...the gyro had a superb blend of vegetables...there were sun dried tomatoes, caramelized onions, peppers, not just lettuce and tzatziki sauce that you get in other places. As sides I had a fresh and tasty Greek salad and a hot side dish of lentil w/rice and onions that came with a tangy side dressing. The owner was friendly and engaging and gave me a free side dish of eggplant salad while I waited for my order. It's a new place and I recommend giving it a try. This area sure could use another family friendly restaurant and I hope Sultans is here to stay. read more

Hands down, the best fries in Apex, I don't know how they do it, but their fries deserve the highest of awards. Consistently crispy and incredibly flavorful. And that's before mentioning their wraps, I haven't experienced their platters so I cannot speak to that, but their falafel is impeccable, and their gyros are flawless. I would very highly recommend the Sriracha chicken gyro as it is my personal favorite. The staff is so welcoming and so consistently friendly. It feels like a little slice of home. The most consistent restaurant that I frequent in Apex. I wish I could give them more starts than five. read more

The Tzitziki wasn't the best I've had, but still good with the Kabob. The Dolmas/ stuffed grape leaves were interesting. This was my first time having them. There was a subtle licorice like taste, then start/vinegary. I liked the flavor overall but I was left with an unsavory mouth-feel. Not sure if it was because they were served cold or the ingredients in general. Finally, I completed my meal with a piece of pistachio baklava. Now, I've never really like baklava, but something told me to give the pistachio one a try. OMG, I have a new favorite dessert. I placed my order and got to the register and then the very nice girl that was there was going to ring me up. She wasn't sure how to manually enter my credit card information that I needed to give, so she asked what I'm going to assume was her manager or whoever was in charge that day? The woman turned around and looked at me as if I walked in and started in her face. Her face was so disgusted, twisted up, and snarled with disapproval. She asked me, with a huge attitude, "what was going on here?". I politely explained the situation, which is that, at the Cary location our company pays over the phone when I arrive. I handed her the phone to give her the credit card information and she was speaking to my boss (who is a very world-renowned doctor) about the payment info. She was so rude to him and said "well usually we don't do this but we'll do it this time". I informed her that from now on, since it was such a problem we will gladly go to the other location or just another restaurant in general.
