We stumbled across this restaurant on a Chinatown Night Market Day. Our group wanted to find a place to sit down where it was warmer and less crowded than the outdoors. Staff were friendly and were able to immediately seat us. Prices are on the higher side for sure as compared to the night market. Average prices were around $15 to $18 per dish. Our saute garlic string beans were excellent, and everything else was satisfactory. This is a solid place if you want something quick and nothing over the top. read more

This is a busy, modern dim sum/ tea place at the entrance of Chinatown. I'm not proud of going here, but it's convenient. Lots of tourists complaining about various minor issues. Ambiance is like a very nice bus station. Chinatown has a few really old school dim sum spots that you can't even find in China anymore. And there are more modern spots too. I thought the xiao long bao were tasty, but mini sized. Har gow weren't very good. Service was fine. The Thai milk tea was good, but I'm getting too old for all that sugar. read more

Sum Dim Sum was my brother in-laws choice and he's Chinese. He said it wasn't bad and it was fine. It's situated on a corner and very close to a parking garage. We had a party of 8 and there were not too many people in here on a Sunday afternoon. Parties of 5+ will be added an automatic 18% gratuity. Not sure if that applies to take out orders of 5+ orders on a receipt? The food was fine and the service was on the upper level between good and great. Drinks were served in cans and Thai tea and water was in cups. They need to be on top of putting their cleaning supplies away. It looks cluttered and it's all over carts and countertops. That being said , the place is on 4 level of 4/5 of cleanliness. The bathroom is for customers only. The food took about 10-15 minutes to be served and that's a very reasonable amount of time. It added up to over $215 plus our tip for our party of 8. That's about $25 a person. read more

Stopped by Sum Dim Sum for a quick dinner. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and well lit, with beautiful pictures and a stunning mural on the walls that create a welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the fried rice with broccoli beef, and it was delicious, full of flavor with tender and juicy meat. Adding a little Sriracha gave it the perfect kick of spice. One small concern I noticed, when employees clean the tables, they spray disinfectant directly while the silverware, napkins, chopsticks and sauces are still on the table. This can cause the spray to get on those items, which isn't ideal. I'd recommend removing everything from the table first before spraying, so utensils and sauces stay clean and safe for the next guests. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, and with a small adjustment in cleaning practices, this place could be even better. read more

Great dim sum! We were looking for a place to go found a very foul place that left a bad taste in our mouth. This place made a nice recovery for Chinatown! The service could have been a little bit warmer, but otherwise it was a great experience and exactly what we were looking for. Right on the border of Chinatown and easy to access from the financial district, we definitely recommend this place! Came here on a Saturday for a late lunch. When you go inside, it seems like to order at the cashier first then go sit down, but actually, you sit down and they will take your order. We ordered the dan dan noodles, and the salt and pepper fried tofu. It was very delicious! The fried tofu is amazing. It has a good balance of deep fried from the outside with the softness tofu inside. I definitely recommend ordering that. The dan dan noodles was also good. Mixing it with the cucumber is not overwhelming. It does contain peanut and it's not too overwhelming. It kinda of a hint of MaLa at the end. overall, everyone was nice. I was running errands in Chinatown and my stomach started rumbling, so I decided to pop into Sum Dim Sum for a quick bite. I'm glad I did! I ordered a variety of classics: the XLB, shu mai, har gow, and a BBQ pork bun. Everything was delicious and legit! The restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious, which was a nice change from some of the smaller spots in ctown. I came in way past the lunch rush, so there were only a couple of other tables occupied. It was actually quite nice. Came here for a quick bite on my lunch break. Got the garlic noodles. Very good, it was buttery with just the right amount of garlic and not too oily. It was filling and affordable. Next time I will give their dim sum a try, I saw the table next to me have siu mai and potstickers. They commented that it was yummy, and the presentation was also appetizing I also saw there was a poster for lunch specials M-F, seems like a great deal when it comes with a drink. I was really looking forward to celebrating Lunar New Year at this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience was a huge letdown. They had an extremely limited menu--only about ten options--and despite waiting in line, we were told that only two items were actually ready to order. Everything else would take at least 20 minutes to be prepared. Given that it was a special occasion, I would have expected them to be better prepared for the crowd, but instead, we waited 30 minutes for food that was overpriced ($25 per combo meal) and honestly tasted like something straight out of the microwave. The portion sizes were ridiculously small, and the quality was subpar at best. For that price, I expected something fresh and flavorful, not something that left me still hungry and disappointed. Food is very meh, and the condiments on the table are not adequate or traditional. There is no Chinese chili oil paste on the table. Instead there is black pepper and siracha (feels cheapened and dumbed down. Might as well put ketchup on the side too). The wonton soup broth is bland and watery, which is a shame because the wontons and veg are good. The chicken fried rice is decent with a smoky flavor. The salt and pepper chicken wings are breaded and not traditional. This completely threw us off. They were not what we were expecting at all. Personally I wouldn't name them this, as it's misleading. While they are good in their own way, they are Americanized. The Xiao Long Bao are decent, but not worth the money. The garlic noodles with pork were really good. The noodles were springy and chewy. But they use American broccoli that's over steamed, why not use Chinese broccoli (especially in Chinatown). The Shrimp Har Gow was the biggest winner. Big and plump. Good consistency. The interior is fun and modern, but the food feels like the quality of a mall food court. Just tweak a few things here and there to make it more authentic and you'll be 5stars. Came as a party of 10 on new years afternoon. We decided to try SDS since they had availability for our large party, though they were already mostly packed. I was hesitant on the authenticity of the food since I grew up dining in traditional dim sum restaurants. SDS was very good. All our dishes were flavorful and did not lack the authenticity. Some portions are just a bit less than traditional dim sum restaurants, but make up on the quality. Went during the festival, said they were opening at 6:30 but you could only order 2 items off the menu unless you wanted to wait 15 more minutes. And then once I got the food it looked worse than a 5 year expired microwave meal and tasted it too. I'm a hungry college student and I could not stomach this after a long day.
