Post watching the SF Gay Men's Chorus Dolly A Pride Show at Curran Theater yesterday, we ended up at Tonton after roaming. The restaurant is tucked away downstairs with no elevator. It was a late lunch and we were the only diners until people started coming. It is a small but clean restaurant serving ramen, bento boxes etc. They have many choices of ramen especially. There was one server. We ordered 2 Seafood Ramen and one with no green onions. The other friend got the Chicken Teriyaki Bento. We also got the Sake drink. The server said they don't allow split checks. They don't serve hot water. The ramen & bento box was delicious. We stayed awhile as we were chatting about the show. The server mentioned the Mexican restaurant above them. He said it is their sister restaurant. We said maybe next time we will try the sister restaurant. Quick service, good food, and good value for the price. We don't mind returning.

Very convenient spot for late night ramen cravings in SF. Walked in around 11:30 PM on a Saturday night and had no problems getting a seat. Very no frills but quick service, and got our food quickly. Ramen really hit the spot (especially after a night of drinking)!

Wao fire ramen!!! And reasonable price!!! In SF!!! What is this!!! My friend and I found Tonton while walking around the Union Square area. Very tiny hole in the wall spot. No wait for a Tuesday afternoon. Kind & courteous staff. KARAAGE RAMEN: Complex yet light, savory broth. QQ noodles. Omg so much karaage. I would highly recommend ^_^

Decent place to stop by for food near union square. Walked in on a Sunday night for dinner and there was no wait Got the chicken katsu curry and it was decent, but nothing too special. Takoyaki was pretty decent but also nothing too special This place makes solid Japanese food but it doesn't stand out against other Japanese restaurants

A god friend of mine introduced me to this place and I was hooked. There are no vegan options besides edamame so I was skeptical. However, I also eat seafood, and ordered the seafood curry. It came with white rice and pickled red things that I love. Loved the food so much, I ordered two more orders to go. The first time my order was messed up, but the following time I ordered it was correct. I would and have been recommending this place since then. Don't change the menu!

Very cool underground (literally) ramen spot near Union Square! They had some holiday decorations up at the time which was cute. Our group decided to sit at a secluded booth in the corner. I ordered the takoyaki, which came with 5 pieces. Our waiter was friendly but whenever she refilled the water she spilled quite often (faulty water jug?), and my bag ended up pretty drenched by the end of it lol, but I didn't mind that much because it's a cheap tote. When we went there, their bathroom was broken but the manager was really kind and even walked us upstairs to allow us to use the upstairs restaurants bathroom. Overall, it's a cool restaurant and a nice place if you want some privacy with your meal or want to spill tea with friends.

A great find! After trying to get into 6 other restaurants without a reservation on a Sunday night at 7PM, we stumbled across Tonton and were so glad we did. The interior is a little cramped and they try and get you in and out very quickly, but the food is fantastic. One of the best tonkotsu ramen I've had in years. Well worth a visit.

Squarely in the OK, they saved us from a super long wait for the Thai restaurant next door. Decent enough looking, clean and friendly staff. We had some good and some.. meh. The tan tan ramen was pretty good but the house ramen was a little bland. We had the gyoza and those weren't bad or great. Basically the meal was good enough, just not amazing. Again, great in a pinch though because it was late and still open.

Ton ton is comfort food. While the wait can get quite long especially on Friday nights, the food is definitely worth it. My go to is the katsu curry with chicken katsu. The katsu is perfectly breaded and crispy while still being moist and juicy inside and the curry it's paired with has tons of depth and just the right amount of spice! I also really enjoy their karage appetizer :) Definitely check out Ton Ton is you are around Union Square!

Food is good. Central location. Staff is friendly. Only a handful of tables but I always have a seat.

Was hungry after a day of walking around exploring SF. Stopped here over the Thai restaurant next door. Food looked good and smelled good. Unfortunately I didn't get to try it. I waited for close to 30 minutes only to not get food. The lady forgot to put in my order. But didn't forget to enter the order of the Asian family that sat next to me after I had been waiting for 15 minutes. Once I confirmed with the lady that she never entered my order I left. Messed up to see people who come after you get all their food before you. Was it a race thing? Idk but definitely not coming here or recommend it.

I enjoyed the house ramen. I was the first customer and got my ramen first and finished my food before all the other patrons got their food. Either I ate fast or the cook was slow. Ramen was perfect for me. It had a lot of green onions woodear, bean sprouts, 3 slices of pork, and one perfect soy sauce slightly undo yok, and ramen. I nearly drank all the brothl Normally I don't drink it all. It's a tiny place with 15 to 20 seats.

Nice food, amazing service, definitely worth your tips. It's a little bit tricky to find where the restaurant is.

    Do they have outdoor seating?

No, but they kept the door opened (mid Jun 2022).

Is it true that the bentos doubled in price? I came here last year and they were only $7.50 :(

It depends on the Bento box that you get and since prices have gone up in San Francisco, food prices will go up as well due to rent

The first couple of times was great and then it started to fall off later on. Including the texture and flavor not hitting as hard and the fact that it's closed on weekends now. Impossible for non wagies to go there, meaning I can't have any when I'm there on weekend vacation I guess, but with how everything closes early and is dying in Bay Area, I'm somehow not surprised. Very tiny spot and not much seating, so you're either taking it to go or you're praying there's a chair and a counter that's free. No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. Overall, it was okay, but man the times sure have changed.

Food 4/5: we ordered the pork katsu rice bento with mini creamy ramen and the Yu Ling chi chicken bento with the spicy miso mini ramen. Everything tasted fresh and hot. We particularly liked the pork katsu, it was perfectly crispy, juicy and well seasoned with the katsu sauce. The ramen didn't have much topping (just scallion and Naruto) but the soup and noodles texture were great. I was looking forward to the Yu Lin chi chicken but was not a big fan of the sauce flavor, it was salty and slightly one note. Rice was well cooked in the bento but I could do without the edamame, they weren't cooked long enough so it was hard to get out of the shell and bland. Service 3/5: we were seated pretty immediately but had to wait quite awhile before anyone served us, it might be because we were more towards the corner and the restaurant was busy. We had to get up to find a server to help us with checking out because no one ever came to check up on us.
