***** WARNING ***** DECEPTIVE BILLING PRACTICES First let me say my meal was pleasantly above my expectation for a Friday night out. I have been in search of a good Middle Eastern restaurant for some time. And up and to the point of paying our bill I thought we found it. Ordered the Chicken Tikka Plate, came with Lentil soup, rice, pickled veges, plus another plate of four other side dishes and pita bread. That is the good part. The bad part is the deceptive check out. A 15% SERVICE CHARGE was automatically charged to our bill. Normally I will always leave a gratuity if I have a good dinning experience. Had I known that the 15% service charge was already included I wouldn't have added to it. Didn't see any sign on the menu or anything posted at the front counter/lobby area. I only was on to it after asking for a receipt. After reviewing (see receipt below) I realized I had been taken. 1. What I didn't do and you should do is ask for the bill first to review. The attendant will bring over the handheld credit card machine. 2. Don't let her click the total, that was my error. I trusted her and gave her my credit card without checking the itemized bill. Ask to see the itemized bill. 3. Remember whatever additional tip you give, you will be paying tip on the sales tax too. So I admit my error, a costly one of 37.3% ($18.26) don't let it be a costly one for you. The sad thing about this whole thing is they don't have to resort to these kind of tactics, the food is very good. I was already planing on coming in at least once a week. In the long run it's a bigger saving to me and I'm wiser for it. I will not return and the search continues for an HONEST MIDDLE EASTERN restaurant. read more

I called to make a reservation and upon arrival we learned that they were out of about half their menu items. - We ordered the burger and it was.. interesting. Everyone at the table tried it, and it was not for us. Service - Be prepared to wait. Every time I've come here, it has taken a very long time to get food, and also a very long time to get the check. The first time I came, it took ~40 minutes to get the check. The most recent visit, asks for the check were not successful. I asked for the check at the same time our food finally hit the table in an attempt to get ahead of it. I was ultimately able to get the check by standing by the kitchen door and waiting for someone to exit and flagging them down. - Each time we had to ask for something, we had to ask many times. Example: asked for hot water for my grandma. First time it was forgotten. Second time they didn't understand the ask and thought we were asking for ice water. Third time they said they don't have hot water, only warm water. Okay sure.. still didn't come. Fourth time we eventually got it. - When food finally started hitting the table, we had to ask for plates before we could start eating. Ambiance - The restaurant is decorated in a sort of nautical theme. Really want to support small businesses but honestly, the service here has been so rough. I tried Sumer Nights with a couple of friends on a whim today. It was close to where we were and they had a high rating in Yelp. We ordered a couple of beef Shwarma plates and a chicken kebab plate, which were solid. They don't tell you this when ordering, but they also serve lentil soup and a variety of appetizers (like hummus, babaganoush, tabouleh, etc) with the meals. There was a lot of food and it was good. Make sure to ask for Iraqi bread to scoop up the appetizers. The part that put a damper on my experience was the service and billing. Our server was hard to find at times and they didn't let us know that a 15% service charge is automatically included. They don't bring the check to your table, so they way to see the final bill is at the register so the service charge was easy to miss. We ended up tipping on top of the service fee...it ended up being much pricier for what it was ($120 for a casual meal for three people), so I likely won't be returning any time soon. read more

I love Middle Eastern culture, and really wanted to try authentic shawarma, there are a few places around who have wraps, but they mostly seemed like a wrapped Gyro, not real traditional shawarma. This place looked and sounded legit, I also loved that it was Iraqi food, as I had always wanted to try their food. I was not disappointed, onions, fresh pickles, a yummy sauce, and some really bold flavors that left me in awe of proper seasonings. The bread was also just outright incredible, and the grilling of the tightly wrapped, wrap, was just next level, it knocked my socks off. I had both the beef and chicken, and I will say that the beef was stellar, I had tried it first, but the chicken, oh my, that chicken is probably some of the best chicken I have ever tasted. I will admit, I had never had this dish before, but had been wanting to try it for ages, and after so many internet videos and research, I am glad this was the place that I tried first. I will so be ordering all the other dishes from the menu, but also getting the chicken shawarma weekly, as it has become one of my favorite things ever. I ordered through UberEATS and everything came packaged well, and as you can tell, the food was amazing. All these great reviews are not lying, and the one person who said they did not like the Chicken Shawarma, must not be used to properly seasoned food, as this thing just bursts with bold, rich and scrumptious flavors. I cannot say enough good things about it, to have a craving met and exceeded, to sit back and go, that did it, that was exactly what I was dreaming of, is a very rare thing. Also, the food made me feel good! Not sleepy, not sluggish, no stomach aches, this is what food should do for you. Make you feel great! I have severe anxiety about being out of the house, lame I know, but if there was one place I would try and love to eat at, this is it. I have ordered both the lamb shank and whole rotisserie chicken meals to-go, and they've been amazing. They come with a quarter-sheet pan catering tray filled with a perfectly cooked giant lamb shoulder or whole chicken surrounded by the most delicious bejeweled rice--toasted vermicelli and slivered almonds, raisins, berberis, peas, and carrots. The lamb was so tender I was able to eat everything with a spoon. They included some warm Iraqi bread, salads, and lentil soup with each meal. They are packaged well and ready in 10 minutes for lamb and 30 minutes for chicken. A great value both in terms of quality and quantity for the amount of food. It's the best Quzi in Sacramento, and probably one of the best lamb and chicken dinner deals for a small family.
