East Sacramento has a new Mediterranean restaurant! Mediterranean Bistro located in a small shopping center filled with a few other restaurants and businesses. They've only been open for four months and their location will feel familiar... The spot has been home to different restaurants with the last one being a Mexican restaurant. It's great to have Mediterranean food as an option in the area. The interior of the restaurant definitely feels more comfortable than the previous establishment, and I love the new booths. Lunch is always made better when enjoying it with a good friend! I wanted to order a wrap, but ended up ordering the kafta burger. The wrap is still calling my name and it will be a reason for me to go back and try it! My friend ordered the two protein plate. Her plate came with a salad, rice, and not only looked super delicious, but she shared a bite with me and it was so tasty! My kafta burger was a generous portion of meat on a soft bun. The layers of fresh jalapeños, lettuce, their sauce, tomato, made for a delectable taste sensation. I added fries to my burger, and the fries were lightly seasoned and who doesn't like a good crinkle cut french fry?!? Service is incredibly fast, and the owner is very gracious. Affordable and cooked to order Mediterranean cuisine in the coziest of restaurants. I love Mediterranean food and always looking for the next spot to try. Came across this place doing a Google Maps search around my hood and this popped up. We dropped in Friday night around 6:30 and it was busy. The counter was wide open so we parked right there and that's something really enjoy. I like to watch the way a kitchen crew works. This operation runs smooth and easy with everyone involved working the plating and cooking. Really cool. Everything we saw fired was cooked to order from start to finish and that's how to get an exceptional result. Falafel fried to order and came out beautifully. Nice Persian pickled cucumbers with greens to give that fresh pop with each fried bite. Properly seasoned and fresh. Not a big pickle guy but I'm learning on not a big AMERICAN pickled cucumbers guy. Persian cucumber is my new favorite thing in the universe because the exterior is not bitter and it gives that fresh cucumbery flavor that is so refreshing. These ones are solid and I'm gonna try those olives next time too. lol Mains are massive portions and we did one of each. Chicken Shawarma was solid, well seasoned and good flavors. We stopped here as a quick pit stop with my family. They are recently into a health kick so they wanted something fresh and what way to go other than Mediterranean! I think the owners name is Robby, from what I overheard, regardless he was busy but none the less made us feel welcome. I had let him know my parents are avoiding heavy rice so he said he could do a lentil soup. My parents got the chicken kabob plate and I got the gyro of beef and lamb. I absolutely hate lamb- it's too gamey. He said to try it out that it was a nice balance of beef and lamb and I wouldn't notice the difference and boy was he right! It was so delicious and the lettuce and taziki added a punch of freshness! The store was slow and quiet but felt like a mom and pop shop. I've driven past this place numerous times with the intent to try it and finally had the opportunity to have a lovely lunch here yesterday . I can't wait to go back . We walked In and were immediately greeted by the gentleman working there who was also very helpful and attentive during our whole experience there . People came and went grabbing their weekly lunch orders , sat with friends and chatted and you could tell everyone felt at home and very comfortable here . The food was SOOO good , it already smelled amazing upon entering but once they started cooking our food our noses were so happy ! I got the chicken shawarma plate wich came with generous portions of rice , tender and well seasoned chicken , salad and a few very tasty sauces ie hummus and tzatziki sauce and a side of pita for the table . My partner got the gyro plate wich was a combo of beef and lamb and again rice , salad and sauces . I hate having to write 1 star reviews. But tonight's experience at Mediterranean Bistro leaves me no choice... My wife and I have been wanting to try Mediterranean Bistro for a while, and I pushed for us to get takeout from there tonight. Before we drove out to their location on Elvas and 56th, we tried to place an order via phone. Unfortunately, and strangely, nobody was answering even after calling multiple times. But no problem! I decided instead to just order at the restaurant and wait for takeout there. (This would prove to be a mistake... ) My wife and I rolled up to their parking lot, and I went inside while she waited in the car. The inside of the restaurant is small, but quaint. There are a couple tables out front and booths inside. There's also a counter area where drinks are served. The restaurant smelled strongly of french fries and the food looked great, so I was excited to place my order! However, I waited, and waited, and waited... I walked inside and stood at the counter for over TWELVE minutes. No staff acknowledged me or greeted me. Not even whom I assumed was the boss (and/or owner?). He had a dark beard. The restaurant was half empty and not THAT busy, which confused me? Why was nobody coming over to me to take my order? I was standing by the sign that said something like "Place Orders Here" too. (Mind you, I couldn't get my order in because they weren't answering the phone, so I was willing to wait even longer for my food to be made). After waiting and waiting and waiting with zero acknowledgement, I had no choice but to "yell" over to a staff-member who was cleaning dishes if he could get somebody to take my order. He chuckled and remarked, "only the boss can do that." I then asked if he could grab the boss, as I was rightfully getting tired of waiting. He simply ignored me and kept washing dishes. A few more minutes went by and the boss/owner started walking towards me. Finally! My order would be taken! Or so I thought... But rather than take my order, he walked past me to "yap it up" with other customers who already received their food. It was then that I decided to walk out. The whole ordeal was frustrating and I couldn't take it anymore. I felt my time was wasted. And because my wife and I have to wake up incredibly early tomorrow, we settled on mediocre Co-Op burritos as it was getting too late to wait for some other take out. We were both truly looking forward to eating here, as reviews imply the food is fantastic. And the food DID look great.. but I never got the opportunity to try. My experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and even felt weirdly personal. If I'd known this was going to happen, we would've ordered online. But there was no way to predict I'd be "shunned" from ordering at the restaurant. Mediterranean Bistro- please do better. read more

Mediterranean Bistro in East Sac makes our favorite dishes! Everything we have tried there has been absolutely authentic, delicious and so healthy too! My husband loves their Chicken Pomegranate and Chicken Shawarma Plates. I am vegan, so I love their Eggplant Wrap (so delicious!) and their Falafel Wrap or Plate (yum!). Their Falafel is so tender and perfectly made - as is their Lentil Soup, so good! We always add an order of their Baba Ghanouj and Hummus, both are the best we have ever tasted - and it's a generous portion so we can enjoy it for a few days! On top of having the most delicious food, they are so incredibly nice and kind, with excellent service! The bistro is very charming and cozy. We highly recommend them for both dine-in or take-out! This is such an underrated Mediterranean restaurant in all of Sacramento. It's towards east Sacramento near sac state. Owner and staff are very friendly and are fantastic at giving recommendations for first timers. It's such a good place to dine in for date night, to grab a drink and even a place to bring your family too. The food is amazing! I highly recommend the Kafta Burger and combo plate to start. The meat is tender and season well! And the combo plate is great if you are looking for more proteins! Excited to try this new restaurant in East Sac! Used to be the Wienery back in the day and has had several new starts but Med Bistro seems like a great fit! Excellent service, quick, and delicious! The chicken is super te'der with great flavor. I had the chicken shawarma pomegranate plate and my hub got the chicken kabobs. Pita had a nice sear on them, salad was great, sauces were yummy. Tasty hummus! Can't wait to try more things next time! Oh we got baklava also! Very good!! Small place, which ads to the vibe. The seats are a little high for the tables but that's okay. My wife and I were trying to decide where to eat this evening and happened to come across Mediterranean Bistro through a quick Google search. We tried it out for the first time and we're so glad we did! I ordered the gyro wrap with onion rings and it was absolutely delicious. The gyro was flavorful and perfectly prepared, and the onion rings were a great side. My wife got the falafel plate and she really enjoyed it as well. The hummus was also very good, fresh, creamy, and full of flavor. What really made our experience stand out, though, was the customer service! They were incredibly attentive, friendly, and easy to talk to. The owner, Robby, actually cooked our food and even came out to serve us himself, which made the experience feel very personal. To top it all off, he surprised us with baklava ice cream on the house and it was amazing! Creamy, rich, and full of flavor. So good! We ordered the Gyro Plate (came with a small side salad and pita bread), a Gyro Wrap, and the Greek Salad. Everything was delicious. The rice was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the hummus was fresh and creamy, and the gyro meat was so good. The Greek salad was huge - fresh greens, all the right toppings, and a light, perfectly balanced dressing. My husband and I shared everything and still had leftovers. Ordering through their business website for pickup was super easy, and the prices felt very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality. We live super close by and truly hope this place does well (it seems like a few previous spots in this location didn't make it). We're happy to support a local, family-owned business. When I picked up the food, I asked if the person helping me was the owner and he said yes - and he was working on Valentine's Day. That says a lot. So happy to have this place nearby. Some friends and I came to Mediterranean Bistro & Roastery for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was a later lunch, but we were surprised to see a steady flow of customers through the restaurant. The space itself is small, but we grabbed a spot in one of the booths. The owner warmly and promptly greeted us and provided us with menus. After looking over all of the delicious options, I settled on a Greek salad with a side order of falafel. My one friend also ordered a Greek salad and a side order of falafel, while my other friend ordered the chicken Shawarma wrap. We appreciated the owner's honesty in letting us know that the quality of his current cucumbers was not up to his standard, so he omitted them from our Greek salads. In exchange, he offered to put more feta cheese - who is gonna say no to more cheese? The salad was a large portion for the price and extremely fresh. The side order of falafel were crispy and had great flavor. And my friend loved her wrap! Tucked in the corner is an inviting place where the staff is friendly and quick to greet you and take your order. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of baklava on the bar top for you to admire. I'm not sure if the main cook was the owner or not, but he was very friendly and welcoming. With the limited booth seating, I sat at the bar top and ordered the gyro plate. He was excited to make its and said it's a great choice and easy to cook and assemble. The portions were generous (I didn't finish the whole plate) and the presentation was wonderful! I mentioned how beautifully the plate was arranged and he told me how he tries to plate things that would satisfy HIS appetite. This place is located in East Sacramento. We found this place by accident while driving around. Good thing we stopped by and experienced great food, ambiance and a super friendly owner. Robbie, the owner greeted us warmly and made us feel home right away. He took our orders and was attentive to us and our furry baby. We ordered the gyro beef and lamb wrap with a side of lentil soup. The soup was very tasty and I literally could just had that for lunch. The gyro was a good size and was pack with a reasonable amount of meat with a balance of tzatziki sauce, red onions and lettuce. The chicken swarma wrap was made to perfection that I couldn't decide to take more than one bite from my husband's food. I may have to come back and order that for myself next time. Found this place on yelp, wife and I stopped by for lunch. The place was low key the ambiance was very clean and well kept. A nice spot to grab food and beer or glass of wine. The food was delicious we tried the Greek salad that was extremely fresh , The chicken pomegranate shawarma was amazing , spicy beef shawarma was so tender and on point. The owner Robbie was very friendly and polite he actually served us and prepared the food. We ended our meal with Turkish coffee and delicious baklava . I ate here last weekend while in town for work. My partner's and I ended up eating lunch here two days in a row to support this new business! (It was 3 weeks new) The owner, chef, waiter, etc Robby is a delight! He's clearly passionate about serving good food. Amongst our group we pretty much had everything and it was all delicious. The first day we came in we were the only people there. The second day,, Sunday, we walked in and all the booths were full! Yay! It took a little longer to order but you can see Robby working hard. We are spending a night in Sacramento for a run tomorrow morning. As always, went to Yelp to find dinner. My fiancé picked a winner when he found this restaurant. The many 5 star reviews are spot on. Robbie, the owner, was friendly and welcoming, and a fellow F1 fan. He kindly changed the tv channel so I could watch the race. The food was amazing. The portions are HUGE. I had a hard time putting my fork down. Pomegranate chicken shawarma was so tender and seasoned perfectly. Fiancé had the chicken shawarma with garlic. Again, delicious and tender. Both dishes came with rice, salad and hummus. The flatbread with tzatziki was so fresh and yummy. The tzatziki portion was also huge but we took all the leftovers and will not let it go to waste! I wish we lived closer so we could be regulars but this place is so good I would drive the hour and 15 minutes just to eat here again.
