I really wanted to like this place but it falls short of Montreal style smoked meat sandwiches. If you have ever been to Montreal and have had smoked meat sandwiches at Schwartz, Main, Dunn's, this one doesn't compare. The meat was dry. Flavour was alright. Too much dry meat with just bread and the tiniest bit of mustard doesn't really translate well. Perhaps because it was takeout? The fries were a bit soft possibly due to the travel time from the restaurant to home but the seasonings were bomb , not salty and a bit spicy! I visited after recognition from Michelin. I got a Large plate, a chicken sandwich, and Smoked meat poutine. Their meat was very soft and surprisingly mild, in a pleasant way. The chicken sandwich was a lot better than I expected. It was something I would not mind getting every day. The poutine was also great, although smaller than I thought. I understand the hype, so I won't discuss the waiting. There were two issues with the restaurant. The men's room was closed, and I had to use the women's room to wash my hands. Also, disposable knives were out of my reach, so the staff had to get one for me. Because they were in a tiny box, they had to grab the knife's edge and hand it to me. You know, Michelin probably mentioned this place for the food. Neither do I visit restaurants for their excellent hygiene. It got me thinking for two seconds before letting myself indulge again. Sumilicious is the closest and best thing I have ever had outside of Montreal! It's the little details of the place that really set it above the rest, including offering black cherry sodas. Everything was delicious and I will definitely be back! The only things I weren't super excited about was the cost of the pepper and the pickles. Yum's the word! Yelped this place and popped by tonight around 8pm. Open till 9pm, this place seems to have a steady stream of customers. Ordered the large box of smoked meat to go. I was told the large box makes 2 sandwiches. Bread was packed separately. I personally prefer the fatty cut which is exactly what I got. Meat was tender and juicy. First time I tried a sandwich like this was in Montreal's famous Schwartz. And I had to wait in line and the place was small crowded, and drive five to six hours from Toronto. I am so thrilled that we now have a place like this in the GTA. Overall it was fantastic and definitely didn't have to waste the time and gas to drive to Montreal again to get the same or better taste. The place was very clean. We went around 2pm on a Saturday for a late lunch. We ordered a smoked meat poutine and a smoked meat sandwich combo. The food definitely did not disappoint. My toddler who is a picky eater enjoy the smoked meat as well. It didn't lack in flavour and if you need more mustard you can add more at your table. The staff are friendly too! The only drawback is that the combo doesn't include a drink. The owner of the place originally worked at Schwartz for 16 years and after that decided to move here and open this place. Great. I must say I travelled all the way from downtown core just to have a taste of mtl during these covid times. They had good social distancing practice. I ordered a brisket sandwich and a Cherry cola. The meat was flavoured perfectly. Although for my personal taste I would ask for fattier cuts upon my next visit. I say it's about a 8.5/10 closeness to mtl smoked meat . They did say they tweaked a bit. Unfortunately my fries were ruined from steaming in the bag so I can't really rate that. For those that actually like to taste the meat instead of the salt they put in, I have to say the recipe is not bad at all. If you ask the owner/chef, he is willing to accommodate your preference for cuts of meats... I like mine with more fatty cut. For those with high blood pressure and still like to eat good tasty food, the poutine gravy is not overly saturated with salt. Sumilicious gets a delicious five stars from me. It's simple and honest good food in an area where there's no such thing as good (or any for that matter) Montreal smoked meat. We visited on a Friday evening and was surprised how many people there were here. As a result of the busy-ness, the orders did take a bit longer than I would have liked but the food is well worth the wait. I went with the classic smoked meat combo which pretty much has all you would want, bar a drink. The smoked meat sandwich was excellent. It was perfect. There was a huge amount of tender smoked meat that just melts in your mouth. This is good meat. It wasn't salty at all which allowed the flavors to come through instead. The bread was also fairly soft which is nice because having hard bread for your smoked meat sandwich is a bad thing. Now for the rest of the combo: the fries came later and I did like them. There was a healthy amount of fries and they came out piping out. I believe they use yukon gold here which results in a sweeter french fry. I do think they're a tad on the brown side but it was still good (could just be from the extra starch of the potato itself). The wrapped dill pickle was good, very flavorful but could be a bit crunchier perhaps. Coleslaw was good, the acidity really cuts through the grease well. The value is actually real good. It's a bit hard to fathom but Sumilicious manages somehow to bring a bit of magic from La belle provence to the 416 East side. While I'm not a huge huge fan of smoked meat sandwiches, I don't mind the occasional one in small doses and is still capable of telling apart a great one versus a so so one. In my years of eating in the GTA, I've only come across a couple places that had smoked meat on par with Schwarz - they are Center Street Deli up in Vaughan and Sumilicious in Scarborough. Why I'm not a super fan of smoked meat sandwich is because sometimes it's just too much meat in one heap hence why I opted for the smoked meat poutine instead on my initial visit. Why not? I'm getting the two best gastronomic innovations from Quebec in one plate - smoked meat and poutine!!! Most importantly there's less meat than the sandwich. For $8.50 you get a huge portion of poutine which is not a big deal for me as long as the portion is fair. At some point of your life the quality trumps quantity. I'm pretty sure most of us have had experience ordering some Costco or even a medium fries from Mickey Ds. You kind of stuff the fries in your mouth at a frantic pace at the start and by the end you almost slow to a halt and just labour to get to the finish line. Most of you probably do not care about my fries eating escapades, but what may be of interest to you it's the fact that I did not experience that with this poutine because it was so so good. With every fork of gooey fatness I just kept on eating until it's all done, no matter how full I felt. Their fries was made in house with a cut of potato that was sweeter than the norm and fully reminded me of poutines I've had in Montreal. Gravy was savoury yet not greasy. The only suggestion would be to make it hotter because the cheese curds had a bit of difficulty melting. The smoked meat was pulled and had just the right amount of peppercorn taste to it. To add to the texture and complexity of the poutine I would suggest that they add a few shavings of slightly fatty smoked meat to their initial pulled ones, to give it a slightly melt in your mouth texture. Even at a dollar or two more I think that will enhance what already is a very stout product. For now I guess you can still do it by paying extras for the shavings. Believe me, you will definitely not regret making a trek to the Scarborough east side to get your fix of smoked meat and poutine at Sumilicious. read more

This family-run business just opened up at the corner of Steeles/Middlefield and is serving up classic slabs of delicious smoked meat with mustard, sandwiched between two slices of rye bread. At $10 for a sandwich, the portions are pretty big so don't underestimate it! One sandwich will definitely fill ya up if you're an average eater. I haven't eaten a smoked meat sandwich in a long time but this was delicious! After finishing the sandwich I was really full! The sandwich doesn't look very big but its just packed with so much meat which makes the sandwich so good and very filling. Every bite there's meat falling out of the bread lol but that's whats its all about! Definitely best place to get smoked meat sandwich or any sort of Montreal smoke meat without having to go to Montreal. My friends & I got the smoked meat sandwich, smoked meat sandwich combo (w/ fries, a dill pickle & coleslaw), and a smoked meat poutine. The smoked meat sandwich was filled with plenty of meat, so much so it was difficult and pretty messy to eat. Their portions, however, are very generous and leave you stuffed. The sandwich typically comes with only mustard, I do recommend adding sauce yourself on the side. The meat was tender & had a good chew but overall with the amount of meat it was pretty dry. The sandwich was $10.15 (after tax) & honestly it's not a waste of your money. I do recommend getting the combo ($14 after tax). The fries are amazing & the pickle/coleslaw will help provide the acidity needed for such a meat heavy sandwich. The poutine ($9.05 after tax) in my opinion was better, mainly because the base of the dish was the amazing fries. The gravy was also very good & they didn't go light on it either. Went here on a monday night, looking for some good old fashioned smoked montreal steak meat. The decor of the place is simple, just like a normal deli. What i like the most is that they will slice the meat by hand in front of you. You can see the perfectly smoked meat and juices ooze out as they slice it (mouthwatering). Food portions are pretty good for the price your paying. We ordered a normal poutine, smoked meat poutine, and a smoked meat sandwich. Normal poutine: just your typical over the counter poutine that you can get anywhere. Smoked poutine: now this is what you wanna order. So its a regular poutine, but they put a generous amount of chopped smoked meat on top. And im telling you it is just heaven. That smoked meat put the poutine into a new other level. Smoked meat sandwich: what can i say, the star of the dish is the MEAT. And that is what they did, there is more meat than there is bread. They put some mustard on the bread, and thats about it. The meat had a tasty crust and moist centre, just the way a proper smoked meat should be. Overall the experience was good, would definitely comeback and try their other menu items. Date Visited : July 10, 2018 We were curious about this resto since it opened, and one of my friends (who is also a yelper) beat my wife and I to this resto. They claimed they were stuffed with 2 dishes ordered and spending only $20 CAD. They had ordered a smoked meat sammich (sandwich) and smoked meat poutine. Oddly enough my friend also has to deal with Gout and beef is one of his triggers, so I am surprised he didn't complain about any pain the following day. Unless he had his gout meds with him the day he went with his SO. As for my visit with my wife the experience was more of a mixed bag. Since the smoked meat offerings are beef, we had to avoid that due to me not wanting to be in pain with Gout the next day. So we ended up ordering their chicken offering which was a Grilled Chicken sammich (sandwich) and regular poutine which my wife and I shared equally. Note for those with Gout, their gravy is beef based, so be careful. Their fries are prepared and cooked in house, not frozen, they kinda reminded me of Swiss Chalet fries honestly. Their grilled chicken sandwich has a slight spicy kick to it, not enough to make one hunt for a tall glass of milk tho. Oh for those of you that enjoy Cole Slaw, if you like your coleslaw creamy, avoid their coleslaw it is more on the vinegary side. Also, for those looking for a pork offering, look somewhere else since this resto is Halal. Now as to value for money spent. This is where it kinda got me, the grilled chicken sandwich was $9 before HST. This seems to be a bit steep for a chicken sandwich, tho in its' defense it had equivalent of like 2 whole chicken breasts on the sandwich. Also a not for those with Gout, the only veggie they put on their Grilled Chicken sandwich is cabbage, which my wife scraped off since she noticed it before I did. This place had its grand opening last Friday and tonight when I went, there was already a decent flow of traffic. Great for take out and dine in (several tables are available). Owners were very friendly and appreciative. Portions were generous for its price. I shared the large smoked meat plate (comes with several pieces of bread) for $16.50 with my boyfriend and we were both very full. For the meat, I didn't see the option for choosing lean, medium, or fatty etc., but they did serve a bit of medium and fatty on our meat plate. I only wish the meat was even juicier.. it wasn't dry but I think I was expecting super juicy meat but for some reason, mine wasn't. That's ok, not a deal breaker. Definitely a good spot for legit smoked meat in the city. You'll get the flavours of the Montreal staples for sure. Also halal, or atleast the main beef is. They've got meat by itself in platters by half or full pounds which comes with a bunch of bread. They've ofcourse got the sandwiches which is about 0.4lbs of meat between bread with mustard. Very simple as it should be. You can get a combo with a huge pickle and order of very crispy fires. They've even got smoked meat poutines. Price wise ...very reasonable. The owner, from what I could gather came from Montreal and had worked at the Famous Schwartz's for 15-17 years. I tried two sandwiches that day. I grabbed a Lean Smoked Meat and the Chicken Sandwich. Let's start with with the Smoked Meat. It's hand sliced smoked meat. I chose lean but you can get regular or even fatty, whatever you like. It's perfectly sliced and piled super high with some mustard on nice light rye bread. The meat falls apart and is super tender. The seasoning on the meat is excellent. I would have to say it's exactly like Schwartz's or even better! They put enough mustard to meat ratio. The bread is nice and soft. I wish they would put it on double slices as it does fall apart when you eat it. The owner convinced me to try the Chicken sandwich as well. It's made to order fresh so you have to wait 10 minutes. It's basically a chicken thigh opened up and seasoned with some Portuguese seasoning. It's a little spicy but tastes great. It was served on a bun with some mayo (I think) and some sauerkraut. This is a amazing combination. The only downside to this sandwich is something that I am picky at. They leave the chicken intact and it had some fatty parts which I'm not a fan of but to each their own. It was a good sandwich and I would most likely get it again. How many times have I had a conversation with a Torontonian about the scarcity of good Montreal style smoked meat? Too many. Not anymore. Been there twice now and this place is hitting the spot. The first time I came I got the smoked meat sandwich combo. They have the three options for meat (lean, medium and "fatty"). I got medium and I found it to be on the lean side, so I wouldn't go any leaner. The meat was peppery, juicy and full flavoured. The sandwich was classic on rye with just mustard. The only thing that I found to be disappointing was the bread. It was on the crumbly side and didn't have a ton of the rye flavour... which isn't the star of the show but could have taken the whole thing to the next level. Portions are very generous and comes with a classic dill pickle and small coleslaw. Second time I came I got the smoked meat poutine. It's a winner. The gravy with the meat is amazing - it has the very peppery flavour. Cheese curds were great and fries were good too. For $12.99 you get a smoked meat sandwich, a side of fries, a small coslaws and a whole pickle. It was a filling meal, overall I enjoyed mine, but I wish the smoke meat would be more fatty (my personal preference). The bread is standard, nothing special. I really liked the coslaws cause it balanced the saltiness of the smoked meat. The pickle was juicey but a little bit too salty for my taste so I couldnt finish it. Most people just come in and out for a quick meal. We also saw a couple of people getting takeout. Also, they have special items on the menu (smoked whole turkey, duck etc) where you will need to place an order ahead of time and pick up on a separate day. Good for parties or any event. read more

Schwartz? Who needs Schwartz's when you have Sumilicious! The roast beef here is on par if not better than what you can get in Montreal. I overheard the workers saying that they used to work at Schwartz and have now opened up here in the GTA. Get the smoked meat poutine. You won't regret it. Massive portion size, for a really great price! You get generous amounts of smoked meat on top of delicious gravy, cheese curds and fries. Wish they were open 7 days a week! I visit this plaza quite often and have always seen this place but never ventured in. After one of my colleagues told me about his food here, and checking out the reviews, we decided to come try lunch. I know the seating area is quite limited, but I wanted to eat in as opposed to take out, so that I could fully appreciate the food fresh as opposed to perhaps getting a bit cold in transit. We came on a Sunday at about 11:30 am, and it already had its share of diners, but we were able to snag a table. I already knew what I was going to order: smoked meat sandwich and smoked meat poutine. I requested fatty cut for the sandwich and extra cheese for the poutine; the cutter was friendly and helpful and I definitely felt welcome. How did everything taste? WOW! Even though I was initially surprised at how small my sandwich was after I unwrapped it, it was juicy and meaty and turned out to be the perfect size. Not like those monster stacked deli sandwiches that you have to take apart in order to eat it. The pickle was massive - I guess I was expecting something a bit smaller. The poutine was so yummy - just the right amount of savory and salty and quite addictive. My daughter opted for the grilled chicken sandwich; it looked a bit plain when she got it but it was also very good! The grilled and smoky taste came through, and with the marinade that they used, it had just a slight peppery kick; note that the chicken is dark meat. Their cole slaw was also quite good - it's not the creamy type, if that's what you prefer - but it wasn't too acidic or vinegary. Looking forward to coming back. read more
