Summer House in Corona Del Mar (Newport Beach) on Hwy 1, is our local "go-to" restaurant for small special occasions, or just to "get out of the house" kind of eatery that's not far to drive to from home. There's a familiar menu, although it's been modified over time, but our old mainstays have remained the same. My wife loves their ginger-encrusted halibut, and my favorite is the "fall-off-bone" baby back pork ribs. Both meals are delicious! Booth seating is almost always available, the service is locally friendly, the ambiance is inexpensively sea-faring, and the food is excellent. You'll like it. We recommend it. read more

Cute spot on the main drag in Corona del Mar. A few tables on the street and some booths in the front windows are busy on lovely days. We stopped for a quick beverage and a snack. Partner tried the margarita, made with fresh lime! The waitstaff hustle on the nice weekend days. The bathrooms are outside next to the parking lot for a couple spots. Friends report excellent fries. Coming in we were greeted right away and didnt have to wait for a table .The restaurant itself was bright love the windows and very clean overall. We went with the kids cheese burger and fish tacos and a avocado burger all we delicious! I personally had the fish tacos they were swordfish i never had that before and they were great juicy and panko perfection to go with loved that sauce they put on top. There iced tea is PERFECT tastes freshly brewed refreshing perfect for a warm day at the beach. Staff was supper friendly and checked in on us often to make sure we were good. SOOOO RANDOM!!! Ok who would have know that this little breakfast nook with Yellow Umbrellas would be home to the best......... wait for it .... Drumroll...... BISCUITS AND GRAVY(Babbyyyy) yes I said it and please challenge me... weather it's me or my mother in law, if biscuits and gravy are on the menu menu then at least one of us is trying it... and this time it was her!!! And we hit the JACKPOT BABY! Ok, sautéed red peppers bacon and wait for it Bacon... all in a classic gravy sauce on soft buttery biscuit.... Look you can just put potatoes in anything and to be honest if I would have know prior that it had that, I would have instantly said naw maybe next time.... After a first time visit to Sherman Library & Gardens- looked for a nearby place to have lunch and found this gem in Corona Del Mar. There are outdoor tables with umbrellas as well as seating inside a really cool cottage/ beach vibes home. Pretty cool. Was greeted and told they'd get a table ready for our large group. For coming in on a busy Saturday at 2pm- I was pleased with the shorter wait time. Our server was Pedro aka Superman. And he was awesome- considering he was on his own!! Now for the most important part: the food ;) For an appetizer we ordered their spinach and artichoke dip with chips. It was delicious and looked really fresh and well made. I ordered their albacore tuna melt with sweet potato fries. It comes with a long half pickle and a side of their orangy sauce (that has a nice kick!) my choice was delightful! Some of the other things ordered were their bacon avocado cheeseburger and regular cheeseburger with fries- both delicious and tasty meat patties. The owner even came to our table and said "how we doin family? He came over to introduce himself and to make sure we weren't missing anything. Came with a friend because he likes it here. I just had bad luck and ordered the wrong thing. But, no dish should be wrong. He ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich and he said it was delish! I ordered the carnitas tacos and it was not good. The carnitas seemed stale and old. It was super dry and over done. The place was not busy and service was slow. Me and my bestie came here for fun. Delish!! I somehow ate my entire burger and fries!! Had some of her tuna melt. It was also very flavorful. Came in the middle of the day so it wasn't busy. We came in on a Monday afternoon and was set up in a perfect location to be able to park our stroller this was very kind of the staff right away. The inside is decorated so nicely it is like a beach bungalow and very comfortable. The food is fantastic, I had the ahi tuna salad and my Wife got the BLTA. The tuna salad was great there was plenty of tuna to be able to have a piece with every bite, it was flavorful zesty and fresh! Unfortunately I cannot say how the BLTA was as my wife refused to give me one bite it was so good, the French fries were thin and crispy, I liked this my wife not so much. Menu was pretty pricey but it's CDM, a very nice spot and we will certainly be back! read more

Such a cute gem and find on the street. Plenty of parking in the back, which I'd recommend instead of parallel street parking. It gets busy and hard to get out. It's a great American restaurant with fresh sandwiches. We enjoyed the burgers, fries and tacos. Glad that the tacos came in 3 as they should! Also have amazing homemade lemonade, make it with strawberries. They have TV too that broadcast live sports events. It is a little slower on service but didn't mind the wait. 2.5 stars The service was slow and our waiter "Superman" apologized to us at the end. It was all good because we weren't in a rush and enjoyed the sunshine while sitting outside. We came in with high expectations due to being wowed by the food in our past summers of coming here. However, it did not hit the mark. The burger was not a good burger at all. As I am writing this, I am still nauseous from it. It was 22 dollars where you can get a MUCH BETTER burger from "the Place" down the street or "shake shack" on crystal cove. Plus the advertised fries were small and few provided. It was too much burger meat (1/2 pound) and thick, rather than a smash burger form. The Mac and cheese was a let down and wayyy too much cheese! I don't plan to come back unless they reinvent their menu to be less heavy. read more

I will say the calamari dish had good flavor but minimal calamari. But the rest of the food lacked flavor and important parts of it. I ordered the fish tacos... you would expect it to come with fish... literally only one bite of the taco had fish and that's being generous... we told the waiter how we were disappointed in the food and our drinks and they did not even offer to try to fix it at all. We really enjoyed this want little spot. It really does look like summer house in its history. Very charming, we got seated immediately, enjoyed a drink while waiting for our lunch. I had the mezcal cocktail, not my favorite just didn't seem too original. Likely it was me not really enjoying mezcal flavor. My husband had a mimosa and he thought it was ok. The prices for both were very reasonable. I had cheeseburger thought it was good ordered medium rare definitely more on the medium or medium well side. My husband a BLTA he thought it ok. The food here is always delicious and the portions are sizable. I would have given them 5 stars for the food, and the nice guy who waited our table. However, management needs to be aware that the young man behind the bar was intolerable. We came as a party of 3 at 5:45 to celebrate my mom's 82nd birthday. No one said hello or even acknowledged we had walked in the door. When I asked, we were told we could sit anywhere. My mother wanted the booth along the back wall in the corner, but it hadn't been bussed yet and the one waiter was extremely busy. I figured we could be self sufficient and I began removing the empty dishes and debris from the table and was pulling some antibacterial wipes from my purse to wipe down the table when the bartender rushed over, got in my face, and said, "Please stop, please stop, please stop, please stop!" so loud that others were staring. No explanation, (like, "oh, we don't allow customers to clean their own tables.", or "So sorry, we're slow, but we would prefer to clean the table ourselves.") I'll be going back on my next visit to CA and hopefully the young bartender will be more welcoming. I'm assuming this was a one off, but it was really disheartening when I was trying to be helpful. read more
