Wow I've been to Newport twice and this place twice, so clutch! Both times we didn't have a bad thing, the food is incredible. The short rib anything is delicious, especially flautas! Fresh guac, queso was so good, & churros for desserts was amazing. Good service, location, & vibes will definitely be back for round 3

Cute place, seated quickly, ton of flies. They have fans for the flies but they do dive bomb you here. Food was good quality and not sloppy or greasy which is most Mexican places. Reasonable prices for their dishes and drinks. Al pastor was dry, halibut tacos good.

I came in Wednesday at 1pm for lunch and I requested a quiet area because i had a work call to attend on my laptop. I got the Wi-Fi which worked well. Very large space and it was quiet in my area until two couples came with their 5 little boys, luckily i was leaving by then. Theres a coffee/pastry as soon as you get in. The restaurant is the rest of the place. I sat inside at a long table by myself. I Ordered the halibut fish tacos which was filling and delicious. The rice was bland but luckily the beans made it better. You also get chips and salsa when you sit down. That was delicious and i finished the whole bowl of chips by myself. My dish was $24 which is pricey but with the chips, i was pretty full at the end, and i came pretty hungry. Server was good. She went missing towards the end when i wanted to pay but left me a lone bc she saw i was working on my laptop so i dont blame her.

This little cozy restaurant is off the beaten path it's mostly tucked away amongst the homes. We like Mexican food and when we were looking at the other restaurants on the main road,, we weren't captivated by anything - we parked on the main street by the fire dept and walked a few blocks down -got a little exercise and glad we did. Worth the walk. Felt very much for Neighborhood community. We sat at the bar, ordered the taco plate and ranch waters. The tacos and the beans were delicious. Meat was tender, and the beans were super tasty. The chips were very light and crispy, and the salsa was medium spice I would say more leaning toward mild

Chicken Enchiladas Suiza with Black Beans and the Taco Trio

Absolutamente Delicioso!!! I rarely give 5 stars, but this little gem most certainly deserves them all. The food is exquisite and a nice change from the usual Mexican fare. It's influenced by the San Cabos area of Mexico. So, it's what we're familiar with, only with a lovely twist. I ordered the chicken enchiladas Suiza, and my son got the taco trio. It was some of the BEST Mexican food we'd ever had. Another plus is that it's not on Balboa Island's main drag. So, parking and traffic aren't as much of a hassle. It's also very close to the water. The atmosphere is pleasant, and so is the staff. We couldn't have had a nicer experience. I highly recommend it.

    Chicken taquitos

Finally a place that does taquitos the right way! We were recommended this joint by the bellman at our hotel and it did not disappoint. It's tucked away in the neighborhood of balboa on the same street where the ferry is located. Albeit , it was warm inside the restaurant so we opted outside where it felt cooler. I had been searching for delicious taquitos so I ordered the chicken. Presentation and flavor were all there! The salsa it came with wasn't my personal favorite so I traded my partner for the salsa verde- WOWZA! That salsa slapped, acidic and perfect level of spiciness. Service was great, Spanish music set the mood, what's not to like?! I'd come here again for sure :) delicious and enjoyable

Hands down my favorite restaurant on Balboa Island. I love how the decor and ambiance makes you feel like you're in another country. The service is phenomenal and accommodating. Our waiter suggested ordering the Camarones Cabo and it was amazing! The creamy texture of the sauce and fluffy rice really balanced everything and brought it all together.

Tried this spot on Sunday and the food was so yummy; super flavorful and fresh. The ambiance was really nice too, great vibe overall. Only downside was the service was pretty slow. I had finished my drink before our food even came out, which was a bit of a bummer. Still enjoyed it, just wish the timing had been better!

    Asada tacos

This place is delicious and is one of our family favorites. My sister had her wedding reception here, and ever since then it has been a place we always love going back to. Their asada tacos are the best I've ever had and my personal favorite. The employees are nice and we love sitting out on the patio and enjoying our meal. Lots of great meals and memories here!

Great little spot - cozy! -- the hospitality was spot on! We were missing our friend Bernie and as fate would have it , our server was named Bernie. She was a true sport when we got emotional about it. Had some very good margaritas!!! I will try and go back before we leave for sure !!!

    The Ceviche was go good!

The food was awesome! So tasty! We will be back. We are coming for the first time. If you are looking for large plates of food, you might want to go to El Troritos, this place had quality food!

Stacked chicken enchilada ( I requested NO sour cream) Perfect!

We arrived just before 5:00pm & beat the crowd. Excellent service & pleasant atmosphere on the patio! We took the waiter's recommendations & we both thoroughly enjoyed our dinners! I had their house "stacked chicken enchiladas " which were very flavorful with tender chicken that melted in my mouth! My friend had the carnitas & loved every tender bite! We both loved their fresh tortilla chips & salsa! We will definitely return !

Chicken Tostada, Breve Latte, chips & salsa, glass of water
    G L.

This was my first time dining here and it definitely won't be my last. Upon entry, I was promptly greeted by the hostess Brooke and Barista/main man Kevin. This sort of reception and ambience doesn't exist in many restaurants these days. To experience this has renewed my optimism for dining out and trying new places. The menu offers a variety of Mexican cuisine, but is streamlined and easy to decipher and order from. I wound up getting a Breve Latte and the Tostada salad with grilled chicken along with a side of chips and salsa. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and look forward to dining here again.

The entrance is on the left where it says "Cantina". Wonderful outdoor seating as well as indoor outdoor with a fantastic looking bar.

We arrived on our first dining experience here to find an ambience that is elegant and lively. The bar is the centerpiece and the booths and tables are very comfortable for a long dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and polite. She went out of her way to make us feel welcomed. Now for the food: outstanding Caesar salad to start the meal and the lamb shanks were prepared to perfection. My Jewel had a lemon pasta dish that she loved and will order again. Dessert was a warm rhubarb-strawberry cake served with a divine vanilla ice cream. I quickly realized that we should have tried this place sooner. Truly a spectacular dining adventure. Note: this place is owned by the same group that owns A Restaurant in NB and Crystal Cove.

We…read morereceived a very warm welcome from Andrea, who was courteous, professional, and accommodating when we requested a different table. The staff who assisted with seating and bringing silverware were also friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, our dining experience declined once our order was taken. We ordered the Beets Salad as our starter, followed by the Chicken Piccata and Salmon as our entrées. The salad arrived within about five minutes, but we then waited nearly 40 minutes for our main courses without any acknowledgment or update. When I asked our waitress about the delay, her only response was, "Your order was fired 15 minutes ago." When I asked why it had taken so long, she simply repeated the same statement. At no point did she offer a sincere apology or show any empathy for the extended wait. As someone who has owned and managed businesses, I know that delays can happen. However, a simple apology and proactive communication can make all the difference in how guests perceive the experience. The food itself was excellent, and both entrées were well prepared. Unfortunately, the service continued to disappoint. After we finished our meals, our waitress immediately cleared our plates and brought the check without asking whether we would like dessert, coffee, or anything else to finish our evening. That was surprising and made us feel rushed. I rarely leave negative reviews because I understand that every business can have an off night. In this case, however, the issue was not the kitchen delay--it was the lack of communication, empathy, and basic hospitality. Had our waitress simply apologized, kept us informed, or involved a manager, this review likely would not have been necessary. I hope management views this as constructive feedback. Andrea and several other staff members represented the restaurant exceptionally well, but I believe additional customer service training would help ensure that situations like this are handled with greater professionalism and care in the future.

For such a special milestone occasion, we expected our family to be able to enjoy a meal together. Instead, our food came out 45 minutes apart, we were a family that waits for everyone to had their food and by the time everyone had their food our sub par food was cold. That is simply unacceptable. Our server, Patrick, was very good and did his best to take care of our group. The problem was clearly with the kitchen. Food arrived extremely late, some dishes were not prepared as ordered, and overall, the flavors were subpar. The waterfront view is nice, but it does not make up for poor kitchen execution and disappointing food--especially for a special celebration. Skip this place. Then passed us off to a different host - who brought us to a tabel in the back, inside. I mentioned that the first host had said we could sit outside and she said "Oh no, those tables are full" but I had just seen several open... so? It wasn't a huge deal though. We waited a looong time for a waiter to come over and when he did he brought us two waters - one cold and with ice and one very warm with no ice. I have no idea how he got two completely different waters. He apologized for being late and took our order. 45 minutes later - our food shows up (I ordered the salmon sandwich and my mom ordered a bowl of clam chowder). The clam chowder was served in a big bowl but was about a cups worth of soup...lots of empty space in that big bowl... However, my sandwich came with a large piece of plastic in it. I flagged down the manager, who is the only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1, who was very nice, apologized prefusely, told me our meal was on the house, and offered me make me another sandwich. However, I said that I couldn't wait another 45 minutes for a new sandwich so I asked for a caesar salad instead - which he quickly got me. But..this is where bad turns worse. About 80% of the way through my salad, I look down and there's a silver bug walking around my lettuce. This is not a flying bug...it was in the salad. Ugh - I couldn't deal. Since the manager had already told us our meal was comped, we got up to leave but we've worked in kitchens before so wanted to alert the manager. I asked the younger male host at the front to get him for me and he said "oh, I can help you...what's up?" When I explained, he said, "Oh, okay, can you do me a favor and go sit back at your table and I'll send someone over?" Hahaha - no, I can't go sit back at the table with the bug. Geez louise! I told him as such and asked for the manager, who again, was super nice, offered me a gift card to return (which I turned down, I've been put off from this place at this point) but it was kind of him. He handled the situation very well and assured me he was going to go check the lettuce in the kitchen. The manager is the saving grace of this place but honestly, between weird warm water, terrible wait service (we never saw that original waiter again after he dropped off the water and took our order), plastic in one dish and a bug in the other...I'm concerned for the state of their kitchen. We certainly won't be back.
