Stopped in while walking around the shops and very glad we did! It was our first time here and we definitely would come back. The menu is great. Tons of different options to pick from. How have we not noticed this place before now. We took an evening stroll and then stopped by this restaurant. They have 2 window seats which is nice to get some fresh air and people watch. We were told that the food was great so we decided to sit down. They have a wide variety of food items and I'm sure the drinks are good but we don't drink. I opted for the ahi sandwich and I could get it protein style which I appreciate with a side salad. It was really tasty. The ahi wasn't fishy. The thicker section did get a little chewy but that was the next day since I couldn't finish it all. I wish I had more sauce though since it was tasty. Came here & it seemed cute. Whoever greeted us told us it was 5 minutes, however we waited well over that. We noticed that we were some the only obviously Mexican people in this establishment. They told us to wait for a table, however, a caucasian family came and were seated by the front window, which we didnt know was an option but we were happy to sit at but were never offered that as an option. As a POC this is a dog whistle. Nothing was welcoming whether it be the server with the female server with the tattoos, or the customers, or overall environment. We went with a large group. I think we had 15 people on a Saturday night and we did not have reservations so I called and they were able to take us. Our server was great and loved the indoor outdoor feeling of this little spot. My rating is based on the food and I was also disappointed they were out of the NA beer options. That was one thing we were looking forward to on this beautiful day (to sit down after shopping to enjoy a na beer) we just wanted a snack so we ordered the meatball bruschetta and the calamari. The meatball bruschetta was good but I felt the meatballs were lacking in flavor but overall it was a good dish for the 4 of us to share. I have been to this restaurant many times and for the most part really like it. This is more about attitude and policy not about the food. So I went in Saturday evening at 8:38 to grab an appetizer and glass of wine. I was told that the restaurant was closed. So I politely questioned that it is advertised open till 10 and the young woman told me that that was not correct. So I left but out of curiosity, I looked them up and on their website and Yelp it says they're open till 10 so I went back in and very politely said that it was perfectly fine and that I would be going elsewhere, but I wanted to mention the website shows 10, so they might want to consider changing the website hours, and she looked pretty disgusted and kind of rolled her eyes and said "yeah OK". Anyway, I think that corrected hours on their website would be a good idea. read more

The interior of this restaurant is pretty comfortable. Some tables inside and 2 areas to sit while facing outside. We were lucky to get the latter. Our server was good but didn't offer a soda refill until we were done with our meals (-1 star). Bf ordered a taco salad with steak, and while good, he said he was disappointed that the server didn't clarify that it wasn't actually steak but ground beef (-1 star). I ordered the snipe burger and it was quite tasty. The brioche bun was a little greasy but it complimented the burger very well. Tucked away on Balboa Island main street, which is actually Marine street but nonetheless, there's this fabulous little restaurant with amazing food, great casual vibe and such friendly service. First the food. The shareable plates are huge. Easily enough to share for 2 people. We ordered the peppers. XL pepper done just right with a sweet soy sauce. Yummy! Ahi was fab and come with a ton of chips. But the gold medalist was the calamari with deep fried lemon slices. I could have just had a platter of those and been happy. Pro tip: get a few to share, plus a brew or wine and you'll have a happy belly. We also ordered the sausage fennel pizza. After the appetizers there wasn't much room for 'a but it was really good. Thin chewy crust. And it was just as good the next day. For the win! Vibe is casual, so perfect after an evening walk around th e island. Guava cider is a winner, if you're a cider fan. And finally the staff was so friendly and helpful. Just one woman working the front of the house, but she was attentive and super helpful. Definitely going back next time I'm in town. read more

I'm staying at the nearby Hyatt Regency and wanted to take a stroll over to Balboa Island to look for some dinner. I was really craving a burger and saw two spots, on the main drag, The Royal Hen, and Snipe Island. I decided to give Snipe Island a try and am glad I did. The place was pretty empty, though it was also pretty late (7:30pm) on a Sunday, but I sat up at the bar and was brought water and a menu right away. I ordered the Snipe burger with bacon. Although I wasn't in the mood for any drinks, they have a pretty decent beer selection with a lot of local options. It's not the most extensive list (probably 10 taps?) but a really solid one with something for everyone. The wine options are a bit more limited and definitely on the lower priced and lower quality part of the spectrum (IMHO). I'd go for the beers and if you have a wine drinker in tow, they'll certainly find something enjoyable, however if you are looking for a wine bar, I think there are better options in the area. The burger came out quickly and was cooked perfectly to temp. It was a solid burger overall - rich, beefy patty, nice aioli, and soft but sturdy bun. Really good. The fries were okay - they seemed to be frozen, pre-made fries rather than something cut in house, but not the end of the world. Their garlic aioli is delicious. The service was friendly and efficient, but also the place wasn't super busy when I stopped in. The only thing that was slightly disappointing and actually a bit comical is the $3 upcharge for adding bacon. $19 all in with the upcharge when there's a bacon avo burger on the menu for $18.50 that includes avocado. Seems to me that a regular burger with bacon (and no avocado) should cost somewhere between the plain burger ($16) and the bacon avocado burger ($18.50) but what do I know. read more

Stopped in for dinner with my teen after looking at the Balboa Christmas lights, and wow, their food does not disappoint. Despite being a busy night, our server Hayden (I think) was friendly, attentive, and recommended an awesome bacon avocado burger. The fries were my favorite type, crispy on the outside and soft mashed potato on the inside. My daughter got the calamari and really liked how they were lightly seasoned. It was a generous order and would be perfect for sharing. The calamari came with ultra-thinly sliced lemons that had been battered and fried and were pretty tasty. We had a Pilsner, calamari, and the Ahi tuna. Both tasted very fresh and the calamari came with mini octopus as well. Calamari ($12) was not too thick and fried well. Ahi tuna with no fishy taste or smell and wonderful ($13). These were both on the "to share" appetizer portion of menu and although we were hungry we could barely finish the above. Wanted a place to grab a bit to eat and chill for a little bit. This place looked inviting and had a nice chill vibe and overlooked the Main Street in Newport Beach . Was quickly greeted and ordered our food and drinks. Ordered the taco trio... which took awhile to arrive .... Took approx a half hour .... But tasted delicious. The fish ... was fresh and nicely grilled. The tacos were juicy and not dry. The sauce on the side added a nice touch. The views of the main road were nice from the dining room.
