On our last morning of our Austin trip, we decided to check out Summer Moon, and it was a great decision. The interior was extremely clean with ample seating, outlets, lights, and space to stand and wait for your coffee. The menu and tidbits to know were written on a chalk board on the wall, everything was every well written. With it being our first time, I asked the barista what he recommended for us. He replied that the summer moon is their most popular drink, and went on to explain the ingredients that make this roastery so special. Another great thing is they have both regular cold brew and cold brew on nitro! The barista also recommended to try the drinks as a half moon, with half the amount of moon milk, and thus half the creaminess and sugar because the full moon may be too sweet to start with. Our barista was extremely pleasant and was great to work with. I ended up getting the half winter moon latte and the barista was right - I feel the full winter moon would be too sweet for me. It's a great blend of coffee and creamer/sweetener. My boyfriend got the nitro moon (half nitro cold brew, half moon milk) which was nicely sweet but still had the good kick of a cold brew. It was also extremely smooth to the taste. I liked my winter moon better than the nitro moon but I prefer sweeter drinks in general. Great ambiance, great space, great staff, great drinks. I came here on a dark rainy evening after a long Wednesday. Summer Moon was the perfect experience to lift my mood. I got one of the best peppermint mochas I've been served in a while. The staff was friendly. The energy was great. It was busy enough that it didn't feel too empty yet there were still a few open seats. First the vibe is cool coffee shop shiek. A good amount of tables inside and outside if you choose to hang out and take advantage of the WiFi. The line was really long, to the front door but moved fairly quickly. The baristas are fast and keep things moving because it appears most are ordering an espresso drink. What about the espresso drinks you ask. Well, they are known for their moonmilk. What is this moonmilk you ask. I have no idea but its delicious. It apparently is milk with 7 ingredients. I spent the entire time drinking my half moon latte trying to figure it out. Maybe a hint of vanilla, some spice and a touch of sweetness. Nothing like chai if that's what your thinking. A half moon is made with half moon milk then cut with skim. I went this route, careful not to order something super sweet. It was just the right amount of flavor and sweetness. Overall, I like this place! The drinks are good, the ambiance is cute - overall, a great coffee place to go to if you're looking to catch up with some friends or get some work done. I will say, however, that (at least when I showed up on a Saturday afternoon), the place was packed. We thankfully found seating inside, but it was pretty busy from what I could tell, so if you're looking for something with less people/foot traffic, this may not be the place for you. I ordered the quarter moon matcha latte (and honestly, it was still a little too sweet for me; delicious, but a little too much sugar). If you enjoy your drinks, go for the half moon in your drink! But if you don't have high sugar tolerance or prefer more bitter drinks, I would stay towards the quarter (or maybe even 1/8 moon if they do that). I've been here on 2 separate occasions, and I made sure to come at 2 different time points. Summermoon is a really popular coffee shop with a bit of rustic feel to with all the wooden tables. There's a lot of seating here; however, it is pretty packed, so don't be surprise if you have to share a table with someone. In general, it is really a great place to hangout or meet with up friends, but I would not choose it for studying. I came here in the evening then the next time in the morning, and it was pretty loud to where I had trouble getting decent studying done. Order: Summermoon vs half-moon: The summermoon is made with a special custom creamer called moon milk. It has great flavor to it but is incredibly sweet. I love sweet drinks but for myself, it was too much. I would actually recommend getting a half moon since it is still flavorful but dials back the sweetness. Hand-made pies: I really enjoyed their handmade chicken pot pie, it was filling and tasted authentic instead of store bought. However, it's pricey ($4.50) for small, handheld pie. The customer service is really great; they are always willing to make drink suggestions. Overall, a really nice coffee shop - great for hanging out or dates, not so much for studying. read more

At the advice of my colleague I decided to come here because, she just described how great the coffee was. I opted for the hot quartermoon latte because, I don't like extra sweet coffee. I was told the half moon can be kind of sweet. I am more of a coffee flavor person and not sweet! Anyway needless to say the quartermoon was so delicious! It has a very rich and smooth taste not bitter at all. I got the large since I was coming in for an early shift. I was offered 4 shots of espresso or 3 I took just 3 to be safe maybe next time I will try 4. Everyone was friendly. The place was clean. I only spent about 5 minutes to get my coffee. Mind you they open at 6am and I was there shortly after. I have read on other reviews it can get pretty busy! My friends rave about how good their coffee is and they go all the time, so I was excited to have finally gotten the chance to try out Summermoon. Definitely go for one of the Moon Milk coffees! It's their special milk and it is goooood. My sister recommend me to get half moon milk, saying that it the full moon milk was too sweet and the half is less sweet. So I decided on that. And man, it was so delicious. It was creamy but still had that strong coffee flavor- and just as my sister said, it wasn't too sweet. Always a pleasure coming to this place. Pretty interior and pleasant staff. Came here to just chat with some friends before I left for Houston. I originally intended to stay for an hour but ended up staying for three. Highly recommend trying the winter moon drink they have. However, it's very sweet so order it at half sweetness and work your way up from there depending on your preference. Usually go to a different location but stopped here on my way home from lunch. Got my usual 1/2 wintermoons for my wife and me. It was so busy at the pickup bar you just grab your drinks and run off. We didn't realize until we left that our drinks had curdled bits of milk in it. And not just a little bit but a lot. We still drank it thinking it must be ok if they served it this way... until you slurp up a curdled bit of milk. We've never had our coffees served to us like this at my Avery location and I hope this was an oversight on the barista's end because we really love the coffee here. read more

The espresso is pretty good- the line tends to be long but thats because it's a good shop with not many other places around. I also like that they have lots of tacodeli tacos with self serve salsa and good choose of pastries. My main criticism and reason for 4 stars is that I wish they would put regular creamer out for the coffee. I find the moonmilk too sweet so I don't order those drinks, but I find it weird that they don't put out regular creamers as most cafes do, many people like to control the amount they put in their coffee. And It's really awkward to have to ask them to pull it up from behind the counter- they are clearly pretty busy. read more

My personal experience at this coffee shop has been mediocre to poor - I'm not a fan of their ambiance, their overpriced coffee, or their snarky baristas. I don't know what is in that "moon milk" but it is yummy. I had the Half Moon after being advised that the full moon (or whatever) may be too sweet. It was a good choice. I can't imagine how sweet the other is because I like sweet and the half moon was sweet enough. I also had a walnut scone which was decadently tasty and even creamy. This was my first time I've been to Summermoon and I've had a lot of coffee as a college student, but this has had to have been the BEST COFFEE I've ever had. Everyone should try the iced halfmoon latte. My boyfriend got the hot one and I got the iced one and they're both so rich in flavors and the moon milk was just the right touch (which I think made the latte a little sweet).
