This is a beautiful restaurant from the time you drive into the parking lot until you get seated. There are tables set for outside dining which looked very elegant. The restaurant is a Victorian house that looked majestic and cozy. Our waitress was very pleasant and the service was good. The only problem is the food. It did not live up to the elegance of the place. I will not describe in detail why. Any chef worthy of the title would know. I hope he gets to read this. I really would like to give it a chance but they have to improve the food, both in preparation and the presentation. read more

Brilliant atmosphere. The outside deck and porch covered by twinkling lights makes for a very romantic setting. The inside is also pretty and has nice furnishings. Very expansive food and wine selection. The calamari was delicious and so was the lemon butter sauce that accompanied it. The salads were of good quality and tastes very fresh. Unfortunately the appetizers fell flat. The swan was drenched in a sauce that tasted like watered down ketchup and paired with a potato that had no flavor. The tipsy filet was cooked well but tasted fairly typical. Overall the service was nice but slow and our water glasses sat empty most of the night. Overall not bad but for the price you pay there are better options in the area. read more

It is one of the best restaurants in the NRV region. The chef is a genius. His apple soup with rudabega root is simply awesome. We had Veal Stroganoff, Italian Angel, Chicken Arabesque and The Doumbek. All of them were good. The appetizer bread could have been better though. We stopped in last evening on our way home from Asheville, NC after reading some glowing reports and seeing a promising menu on their web site (especially the salads)... Here is my unfavorable review... (1) The waitress was pleasant, but not especially efficient... (I'd give her 4 stars) (2) The Flash-fried calamari was under-cooked and tasteless (not worth a single star) (3) The "Field Greens" salad was strictly Romaine and a bunch of other junk - including the part of the lettuce we generally discard (one star for false advertising) (4) The Rack of Lamb was fatty, tasteless, and sauce not particularly good. I think I may have eaten one of them... We brought the rest home, but threw them out (zero stars) (5) The fixings (e.g., rice, green beans, sweet potato fries) were mostly awful. The green beans tasted like they came from a can, the rice was mushy and probably more like white "Minute Rice" that had been sitting in the pot for 45 minutes... The Sweet Potato fries were gratuitous, and the bread obviously store-bought and re-heated. (6) The Beaulieu Vineyards Cabernet was less-than-impressive, but maybe only because of our dissatisfaction with the dinner. BTW... I noticed on the way in that the building was looking a bit tired. We clandestinely traded our dilapidated chairs with ones at the adjacent tables (luckily, or maybe not, we were the only ones there)... I seldom ever write a review... VERY disappointed. First let me say that I have never reviewed a restaurant before but after this past Saturday I feel that it must be done. We arrived at approx. 6:30pm. There was 6 people in our party. We were celebrating my mother in-laws birthday. She had picked The Summit and honestly I have lived in Christiansburg since I got out of the military in 1993 and had never ate there. Our waitress had no experience with a fine dining experience. They sit us in a room with a fireplace. That was nice but the gas fireplace kept going out and we were really getting cold. They lit it 4 times during the dinner and finally we just gave up asking for them to lit it. The waitress told us that this has always been a problem in this room. It took 1 (one) hour for us to get our drinks and a basket of rolls. As we were sitting there we heard our waitress drop a piece of silverware and then kick it several times down the hallway instead of just picking it up. Several times through out the night a man with a college sweatshirt came in and filled our water glasses. By this time 2 hours had passed and after telling us 5 times our salads were on the way they brought them out. They were ok but nothing special. Then about 30 minutes after that they brought out the entree's. The food was good but not worth the 2 1/2 hour wait. We got charged with a 20% gratuity on each of our checks and the waitress said she wanted to apologize for the service and they took our drinks off the ticket. I did not want to cause a scene so we just paid and left. If you are going to consider your restaurant a fine dining experience , you should not run your establishment like an IHOP. Gave them one star because I didn't think a zero rating would register. Had reservations here for our daughter's graduation weekend. I expected a finer dining experience, so I was a little wary to see a neon "Open" sign that you see in bars or delis in the front window. We arrived with two other parties and stood by the hostess stand for a very long time before anyone was helped or even spoken to. Finally, one of the waitresses that rushed by us several times attempted to find out how many in each party. There seemed to be only 4 employees in the large restaurant that had several dining rooms and outside dining. The 4 seemed to take time away from the current guests to frantically set up tables. The couple ahead of us was sat after about 15 minutes. We were finally sat after 30 minutes and the couple that was sat before us had not been visited by a server yet. There were still parties walking in and they were still trying to get the large party that walked in with us seated. There was no manager or anyone else that seemed to be in charge. This place is severely understaffed. We waited another 10 minutes and still no server came to greet us or take a drink order. We realized that it would be a very long time before we would actually be able to enjoy a beverage or food, so we left. Too bad. The place is pretty (though very run down). There seems to be no one running the show here - it doesn't matter if the food is good if you don't have the service!! read more

This is easily the best restaurant in the area. It's located in an old Victorian house, with authentic decor (not a modern re imagining of "Victorian," so it might remind you of your Great Grandparents' house) and a really cozy atmosphere. There are three dining rooms and at least two fireplaces. The service is top notch, and the food is Serious. It's expensive, and it takes forever to have a meal because you're there for the whole experience, not to scarf down some chow. If you've been to the same sort of place in a big city, then, yeah, you can't quibble with this or that, but the bottom line is, its the only place in town where you won't feel silly in formalwear. read more

Located in a beautiful mansion on a hill overlooking the town, the chef offers fine dining at its best. The food was imaginative and delicious. Try the falafel! And the portobello and polenta! Yummy! Very quaint dining experience, but the food falls well below expectations for a restaurant in this price range. Entrees were very bland, uninspired, and poorly cooked (had a large party there and everyone was underwhelmed by the appetizers and entrees ordered). Not sure how the food is because we didn't get to eat there, we were excited to try this restaurant for my brothers vtech graduation weekend. I made reservations with open table, we decided to change from the original plan we had the morning of at 8am, since we saw the restaurant had good reviews and on open table they were showing plenty of availability for our party. We made the reservation, even called on the way there to confirm they were open and received our reservation. Then we arrive with a party of 13 at 8pm for our reservation to find out that they do not check their open table emails unless it's submitted a day and a half prior to the reservation. I asked if there was anyway they could accommodate us that we understood and were flexible. Sitting outside/splitting into two or three tables, and waiting. The hostess/waitress said she would see what they could do to give her ten minutes or so. So we waited patiently, then she came out and said that the chef/owner could not take us, they were at capacity and too busy to accept our party. Also said "well it's Virginia tech graduation weekend" like we didn't know already?? I asked if there were any places they would recommend since we were not local, didn't have any suggestions for us. Then she walked away. The owner could have at least came out to apologize to us, I have worked in the restaurant industry, during busy/prime weekends. That was the most ridiculous way to handle the situation. Very disappointed in the way this was handled, they also kept blaming open table/google for what happened. They should remove themselves from open table if they don't understand how the app/service works. read more

This restaurant has great potential to be a wonderful restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was good. They could improve on a few things though. The rolls that came out at the beginning were clearly store-bought Sister Schubert's. It would have made such a difference if the rolls were homemade...it didn't make for a great start and made me skeptical about the rest of the meal. I had a pasta dish for the main course and it was delicious...but it was cold. We asked for the flourless chocolate cake for dessert, but the waitress said it wasn't ready yet. We were there at 7:30pm and it didn't look like they had any more dinner reservations for the rest of the night. Maybe they were baking the cake to serve the following day..? Other than the store-bought rolls, the cold pasta dish, and the unavailable dessert, it was a good experience. I would go back and dine there again. read more

I have been to The Summit multiple times and each time has been great. The food looks as good as it tastes. The building is beautiful and the service is good too. Make sure you call in a reservation or you may not get a table. Kinda pricey, but worth the money. The only reason i didn't give this place 5 stars is because they take so long to get your food and bill to you. Each time i've been there i've felt like we were just sitting and waiting around more than eating. read more

This restaurant is by far my favorite upscale place in the area. I haven't found atmosphere like it anywhere else around and I crave the pasta all the time. Their sauces and dressings are full of flavor. I can tell a lot of care goes into every dish. We've been happy with everything we've ordered. We go there every chance we get. I'm very selective and this is by far one of my favorite places. We have recommended this restaurant to friends and they all thanked us for the recommendation and loved it as well. read more

Food is fantastic. It's on a price scale with Bookbinders, but the 5-6 times I've been to each, the food is hands down better at Summit.

My husband of fifty years and I celebrated our anniversary here at the Summit last week and what a Marvelous experience we had!! I have had two friends that have been "hired" here now, but this to them means that they have them work a weekend and then never call them back or pay them. My one friend got $10 for 8 hours of work and the other one get $15 for 16 hours of work. If you want to go to a restaurant that takes advantage of college students then this is the place for you. read more

I've been here twice before and every time everything is great until the main entree. No matter if its lamb or the filet the meal is INCREDIBLY salty. We at there last night for our wedding anniversary and we couldn't eat the side dishes. The waitress was apologetic and brought us new vegetables and rice. The vegetables were very very salty. Every time we've gone there it was over the top salty. Perhaps the cook has no ability to tasty salt or else he considers salt the only spice in his retinue? The waitress snidely mentioned that next time perhaps we should pre-order indicating that we want a low-salt menu. I shouldn't have to anticipate the inadequacy of the cooking process. We will not be going here again. Shame considering the high price of the meal for the area. read more
