The owner like to play games with customers . I took my Mustang 2010 to summit transmission and i talked to Jerry. He told me they will check the car for 70$ and they will let me know for how much they are going to fix my car. They called me the next day and they said it going to cost me 1650$. I agreed After few day i received call from jerry saying that the price will increase for 400$ because there something wrong with bearings of the car. My car is not drivable so i have to say ok. Then the price got to 2150$. In couple days they called me again and the said i have to pay extra 500$ because the axle is bend. I was shocked why they keep increasing the price. He kept playing games till i payed him around 3000$. This place is risky they act nice at the beginning and then they will try to get money from you as much as they can. I really hate to have to do this but I am honestly disappointed. This was my second time trying this shop out and the first time I went to them I took my jeep grand cherokee in to find out what the problem was with the differential and get it fixed and they wanted to do all of this other work on it and quoted me $1200 in repairs on a car that has 300,000 miles on it. I just wanted to get what needed to be fixed fixed and he throws at me $1200 worth of repairs that he advises me to get fixed. OVERWHELMED! I THINK SO! NO WAY! I am a single woman with a vehicle with 300,000 miles and you want me to spend that kind of money... not happening! Then they proceed to ask me to donate my vehicle to them! I don't think so! I also got multiple emails that I never signed up for either! I decided to get the jeep fixed elsewhere and it is running fine with 304,... miles and the problem was fixed for $300. I decided to get a second jeep this time a 96 jeep cherokee 4x4 the reverse clutches went bad in the transmission. Keep in mind that I just started up my new dog grooming business and it is my business vehicle. It is a bad situation for me all around the bend. I am stressed to say the least because I know it is going to be an expensive fix!. So I am getting my AC repaired at PepBoys and they recommend Summit Transmission to do the repair and say they will do an inspection for me the next day. I decide to give them another try and not only does Jerry kid around about with me on the phone like its a funny joke and its not its an extremely stressful and terrible experience to say the least! So i take it in at 8AM the next day for them to take a look at it and the woman that checks you in I believe her to be his wife tells me I will hear something by 11am. So I go to work and I did not hear anything back all day I get off at 6PM and still have not heard from them. I call and they are closed!!! I mean what the heck! I go in the next day first thing and they apologize but sorry it's just not professional! Anyway he quoted me $3500-$3700 to get the transmission replaced and the bell housing which was cracked replaced and to do the rebuild with bell housing he quoted $2700-$3000 or so... Way to cut me a break! Over quoted I think so! I only gave a second star because his wife is nice but he is rude disrespectful maybe just to females and needs to spend more time in Gods Word and learn what it is to love thy neighbor. Thanks but no thanks Jerry for your time. Shout out and thanks to Jeff at Lemon Grove Transmission for being the better man and giving me a better quote and the confidence that I needed to get the job done and at an affordable price. The problem turned out to be the last place I took it to never put enough fluid in it. As someone who likes the convenience of my car, but not the upkeep, Summit Transmissions was a breath of fresh air. Jerry was upfront and extremely helpful in getting a part of my transmission replaced. I really felt like he went the extra mile for me, but I think they just call it customer service at Summit. Attempting to keep the long story short, after some unrelated work at the downtown Firestone, my car began leaking transmission fluid. Went back for a flush, and gasket replacement and still had a leak. On the next trip back, Firestone discovered there was a crack in my transmission....ouch! Firestone said they could not do the repair. My husband recommended I take my car to Hontech, which came highly recommended to him by a friend. Hontech informed me that the likely cause was a result of the unrelated work at Firestone - likely a mechanic either leveraged against it or slipped and cracked it while replacing the CV joints....double ouch! This is where I learn that transmissions require a specialist and Hontech sends me out to La Mesa to Summit. Had no problem getting the green light to get my car in the next day for them to have a look. After telling Jerry my situation and him sensing my hesitation to get this fixed right away (I was anticipating small claims court at this point), he offered to call Firestone. After a few minutes on the phone with them, Firestone agreed to pay for the replacement of the part of the transmission that was cracked. I walked away, took the bus home for the afternoon, and the car was ready the next day. Many thanks to Jerry and his team for making what could have been a nightmare into a bearable situation! I would like to point out, too, that Summit is located across the street from a bus stop that runs to Hillcrest, and is near a trolley stop, both of which are beneficial for a car shop. read more

Wow! I am super impressed! What a less than steller shop could have made into a bad situation, Jerry and Sandy made into a small, not terribly expensive situation for me. Long story short, I just had my 1999 Ford Ranger into Drew Ford for other non related repairs and upon picking up my truck, they noted it had a transmission leak and was very low on fluid. However, they did not even tell me about it. I read it when looking over the paper work I got when I left. I was very concerned and after having a huge nagging feeling all day, I drove to work and got on line, and found Summit. After some research, I decided to give them a call and made an appointment for the next morning. I arrived about 930 am and as quick as he could, he took my truck out for a drive and got it on a lift for an exam. After a little bit, he took me out, showed me what was wrong and explained what needed to be done... I sighed and drove home, knowing I couldn't afford another big repair, but knew it was very serious. After making arrangments, I dropped the truck off the next morning and they quickly orderd parts for me.. Jerry let me know it would be about a day or so before all was fixed, but would keep me up to date.. With in a day and a half, I was all fixed and back on the road. I was quite impressed! He didn't try and sell me a new transmission or transfer case, just fixed what needed repair.. I am so happy and can say I am thrilled! read more

I brought my 89 Mazda here on recommendation from Becka Automotive in Chula Vista. It's tough to give a fair review since they had a fire and I believe it caused their service to not be on par of what they usually are. But since I haven't been there before, I can't tell how much the fire was a factor. I get that they are busy, and perhaps a victim of their own success. I would expect to get a call on the status of my vehicle but I had to call twice. Both Sandy and Jerry were apologetic and Jerry even gave me a discount which I appreciate. I admit I'm not big on writing reviews but this place deserves a shout out. I had an issue with my truck regarding a traction control error on my dash and it was running really bad. I took it to Express Lube near my house to get it looked at, I was going to in there anyway to get the brakes and oil change done. They could not fix the traction control issue so they referred me to Summit Transmissions ASAP. Upon arriving at Summit I was welcomed by Jerry and Sandy. They ran a diagnostic on my truck and Jerry explained to me everything what was going on. The error the computer was reporting was unrelated how the truck was running so he wanted to start with the basics and do some maintenance I needed anyway. and see if that fixes it. He really stressed to me that he did not want to fix anything unnecessary.. He ended up changing the spark plugs and wires because 1 plug was burned out and the others were on the way. He hoped that would do the trick but it didn't, so instead of doing anymore work or sending me away to the unknown Jerry got on the phone with the dealer. It was thought to be a serious engine compression issue and most likely be covered the powertrain warranty. So I figured while my truck was at Summit I should at least get the breaks and oil changed done but Jerry wanted to get the main issue fixed before doing that. So off to the dealer I went..The final conclusion from the dealer was a fairly common issue that had been happening. GM had released a memo regarding the fuel control lifters and stated some of them were sticking on this model truck. The dealer is currently replacing all 8 lifters and everything is covered under the factory powertrain warranty. This repair is saving me over $4K. I want to say THANK YOU to Jerry for being so honest and helpful, if not for his help I would have been bouncing around to different mechanics trying to figure out what was going on costing me a ton of money. I prob would have used the dealer as a last resort due to the cost and my standard warranty being up. Since Jerry had asked me to let him know the outcome once the dealer had determined the issue. I called him and gave the news, he was pleased to hear that it was covered and not going to cost any more money. Then he said something that impressed me even more. Jerry said that once the dealer was finished to please take it back to Express Lube to get my breaks and oil changed done. He said "they referred you to me so please go back there and give them the business for the brakes and oil change". I was very impressed by his honesty and integrity.
