We trust the eye care for our family to Dr. Tanya Nicholson---and also, as I will explain below, to Dr. Julia Robinson. Do not get fooled by the utilitarian surroundings of the Costco warehouse or the small footprint of the built-in "cube". This is a great practice with top notch equipment, two wonderful and very experienced doctors, and an excellent front office. Locating the business inside the Costco establishment simply eliminates a lot of expensive overhead that most medical practices can't avoid. Don't misinterpret their low prices as a sign of "cut-price, discount" service. It's because the doctors in the practice can pass the overhead savings on their customers. I consider it a smart solution to a common business problem. I have had a recent experience that underscores how much they care and what they can do. My left eye started to feel very "scratchy" one evening. I tried the usual tricks to clear it but it didn't go away. My wife could not find anything in my eye, either. Next morning it was still sore but I had to take care of some early business. As I was coming back through Boulder I started feeling severe discomfort in my irritated eye. My eyes were tearing up and my vision was so impaired that I didn't think it was safe to continue. I parked the car and called my wife to get me to a doctor. It was a little after 9 am when she got to me and while Superior Eye Health doesn't open until 10 am, she was able to reach Dr. Tanya on a forwarded line. I didn't necessarily expect it because all our previous visits were scheduled during the day and I didn't think we could get through that early. Dr. Tanya was not scheduled to work that day but she immediately called Dr. Julia whose first customer was coming to a 10am appointment. They asked me to get there earlier, as soon as Costco raised the doors around 9:45. Dawn at the front office was already there and waiting for me. Dr. Julia came soon after that and quickly found a microscopic, dust-sized wood particle that lodged itself in my cornea. Besides scratching and causing pain on the eye lid underside, it already started a little ulceration on the cornea surface. Within the next minute Dr. Julia removed the tiny splinter and I was immediately pain free. She put a contact lens over my eye to protect it while it was healing. She was done with everything before 10:00, and her first appointment didn't have to wait one extra minute because of me. I was amazed. She asked me to come next day at 9:45 again to remove the lens and check the recovery. I felt very confident that everything is going to be alright and Dr. Julia confirmed next morning that it recovered well. As you would expect, she had another appointment at 10:00 am, and she was on time, too. As I was talking to Dawn about my upcoming exam appointment, I was wondering what the world would be like if we could make everything work this smoothly. Several weeks later I came to my scheduled exam with Dr. Tanya, who found my vision and the prescribed correction basically unchanged since the previous exam. She showed me one area of concern on my retina that she'd been watching over the years. The little scarred section was unchanged as well and Dr. Tanya displayed for me both the previous and current images on the screen (they clearly have easy-to-access digital record keeping). The newer image had even better detail resolution than the older one because of the upgraded equipment they acquired since then. I was curious what she would see on the images if there were any retina separation and she took time to show me samples of various conditions they can identify. She also showed me other areas of my eyes like the optical nerve, etc. I don't have any complaints about the eye doctors I'd seen earlier in my life but I have never learned this much detail about my eyes and received such personal care as I did from Dr. Tanya. Tanya and Julia are two good doctors in a well organized and very efficient practice. I am very happy that my wife decided years ago to start going there with our children, and that we switched from our previous practice. We love them and I recommend that anyone looking for a provider gives them a serious consideration. It is a coincidence that Costco built its warehouse in the town of Superior but the play on the word is fully justified with Superior Eye Health. They are very good at what they do. read more

My visit with Dr. Julia Robinson began very well and I liked her a lot. She set me up with 20/20 vision, which I was very happy with, and I thought I had made myself clear I was happy with the 20/20. Then, while I was looking around the room, enjoying the best vision I have ever had, she pops a contact in my eye by surprise, which, I don't really mind so much, I was more annoyed that she had done it by surprise. The reason for this was, right after she popped the contact in my eye my vision got all jacked up. I told her the words on the page were all jacked up. Her response was to pot a second contact in my other eye. I protested again. To which she replied; "Oh come on, try." To make her happy I gave it a shot. She seemed offended. While I was reading the page again she just continued and was almost done righting the prescription. I had to really get stern with her before she would change my lenses back to 20/20. I understand what she was trying to do, and hey, if it had worked I would be cool, but I told her 3 times I didn't like it, I can't see clearly with these. And her response of telling me to try, really made me angry, especially after she continued writing the prescription without following up with me as to how the vision was. I also don't like being spoken to this way. I paid for the 20/20 glasses and contacts, after having to stand my ground. Which I don't think a client should ever have to do. She should have listened to me when I told her the writing was all wanky instead of telling me to try. I'm not even an eye doctor and I know Your eyes can't just try. I also believe most other people, who are not eye doctors, would feel the same way. However, before that, as I say, everything was fine. I probably, would have finished the visit very happy and not writing an angry yelp review about my horrible experience. I don't ever write these things ever, and frankly, don't plan to start. I an writing this review, mainly, because, as I stated previously, the glasses and contact, in 20/20 are amazing. The thing that makes me angry is that if I had driven home with the 20/15 vision, I could have had a car accident and hurt myself or someone else, and, if I had been to timid a person to really speak up, she would have send me out the door with contacts and glasses that were unusable. I was panicing inside because, not only did she not listen to a word I said front the point of thinking she gave me 20/15, she didn't ask any follow up questions or listen to me until I was almost in tears. That makes me angry. Don't treat people like they are stupid. I have worn glasses and contact since I was 6 years old. I know good vision from bad. Also, I learned years ago from an eye doctor, who listened and asked questions, that I have a stigmatizism and I can never wear contact or glasses at a 20/15 prescription. If she had bothered to listen and ask questions she would have know that. The other reason I did not like her; I have never had an eye doctor tell me "Oh come on try." before, then care on and almost write the prescription. I do admit, I am a generally timid, I was taken a back by her telling me to try, and it took me a few moments to respond to her. But that is no excuse for just caring on with no follow up and not listening. I felt like she just wanted to give me 20/15 vision and that was that. I will never go here again. I also hope to never have to write another yelp review, of any kind, ever again. However, I do thank you for your time. I guess in today's world, you truly do have to be your own advocate and really stand up to these doctors, even at the eye doctor, apparently. read more

It was my first time using Costco for an eye exam although I am a Costco member for over 30 years and one of their greatest fans, I never considered using the eye or optical service because of my extreme nearsightedness and other eye issues. With over 50 years of personal experience, I encountered only a few doctors that could properly refract my eyes for an accurate prescription for glasses and contacts. I had top doctors in the South Jersey-Philadelphia area service my eye needs for the past 20 years but I moved to Superior Colorado a year ago and now search was on. I visited a top doc-leading ophthalmologist in the Denver-Boulder area and he recommended Costco eye doctors much to my surprise! Understand my eye condition is not easy to understand and deal with. Many years ago, I had a so-called top doc leave in the middle of an examination using expletives because he could not refract my eyes and didn't even come back in to apologize. So another doctor (at the same appointment) tried and he couldn't do it either. So I felt I should give my best review to Dr. Tanya Nicholson. Tanya was on point with everything. She even showed me pictures of my retinas explaining how macular degeneration (from my eye pics) looked compared to normal healthy eyes. No one ever showed me that! I never felt rushed or uncomfortable with her. They also have recently renovated and all the equipment replaced with the latest examination technology. Although it was just an initial visit and I know I may need a couple of extra visits to adjust my prescriptions, I highly recommend Superior Eye Health. read more

I've had the pleasure of being seen by both Dr. Julia Robinson and Dr. Tanya Nicholson over the years and they are BOTH excellent in every way - with dialing in your best prescription for glasses & contacts and taking the time to explain and answer every question. Today, I woke up with a subtle change in the sight of one eye which had the potential to be a indicator of a serious problem, and Dr Nicholson made the time on a Saturday to fit me in for an emergency visit on 3 hours notice. While my sight issue was real, it thankfully was also benign and Dr. Nicholson took the time to explain what was going on and other potential more serious symptoms to be aware of. From being greeted and taken care of by Dawn (or contacted by her ahead of time for pre-appointment confirmations and paperwork) to the efficient, thorough and friendly care of Tanya Nicholson, I am thrilled with my new eye health provider. After a not-so-positive experience with my previous provider and their front office staff, this was a breath of fresh air. Dr. Nicholson took the time to ensure I had the exact right prescription, even trying an additional contact to make sure. Dr Julia Robinson and her assistant Dawn are the Bomb! They really helped me out today when it seems I suddenly had a potential retinal tear. I had only seen Dr Robinson one time before and I am sure glad I was an established patient, although I bet they would do the same for anyone. The two dynamos got me right in to see the doctor today and set me up for an appointment with retinal specialist first thing tomorrow. Dr. Nicholson is very personable and pleasant. I was dreading another eye exam because getting older my acuity is bound to start degrading. But as Dr. Nicholson found, it isn't yet! I brought in my 5th grader in for her first eye exam. Tanya Nicholson was sweet, professional and put my daughter at ease. I appreciate the digital mapping of my daughter's eyes so that we can keep track of the inside health of her eyes; no dilation necessary. Just had my annual (OK, it was 18 months) eye exam with Dr. J and as always, she provided a top notch eye exam plus spent time geeking out on her equipment and the new features they have. Even with her being enamored with the tech, she was very clear in sharing how the new tech helps her take care of us. She is a geek at heart but primarily, she is a CARE giver. I have used many optometrists, and this was the best experience I've had. I never know,and being in a Costco, I wondered how qualified and how accurate they would be. I just had my first exam in four years. I chose this because of its location in Costco and assumed good pricing. It exceeded expectations. I was seen ahead of schedule, the exam was quick but through with up to date techknowledgy. As a senior, I got reassurance from a detailed interior scan of retina and blood vessels.
