My husband and I were in the area and in the mood for hibachi, we found Sumo Steak & Sushi on yelp with great reviews. This unsuspecting restaurant is located on Riverside drive across from the motel 6. Driving up to the restaurant passing a few closed down restaurants, the area seemed a tad sketchy. We pulled up to the restaurant and decided to order our meals to go. They offer all you can eat sushi & hibachi Monday- Friday 3pm to close and Saturday and Sunday all day for dine in only. The all you can eat price was better than the regular menu prices, but they give you enough food that 1 meal ideally should be all you can eat in one setting. Also, if you choose to opt for all you can eat make sure you only order what you can eat because they will charge you for excess leftover food which will be donated to the No kids hungry organization. We ordered our food online; I had the Hibachi scallop and shrimp. My hubby had the hibachi chicken and shrimp. When we walked through the entrance I was pleasantly surprised by the cool decor, the ambiance was very nice. The restaurant has a large bar and the dining area is spacious, this is a nice place to come and celebrate with a large group around a grill. The staff was super friendly, they greeted us upon arrival. We were in and out in a couple of minutes. Our food was very tasty, everything was prepared well, and they even cooked the scallops to perfection, it was the best hibachi I have had in middle Georgia to date. We will definitely be back but next time we plan to dine in.

Sumo Steak and Sushi in Macon is a nice spot with a good vibe. They've got TVs, but the background lighting makes them a little hard to see. Not a big deal, though--it's more of a place to enjoy your food than to watch a game. I ordered the Volcano Roll, and it was good. Deep-fried with white fish, cream cheese, avocado, and crab meat, then topped with scallions, tobiko, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. Despite the "spicy" mayo, it wasn't spicy at all, but the flavors worked well together. It was rich, crispy, and really filling. I only made it through four pieces. Overall, it's a solid spot. Good food, chill atmosphere, and worth checking out if you're in the mood for sushi.

I was expecting a really good experience here since my sister recommended this place. It took us 2 years to finally try it. The service was so-so. The ambiance likely better than the rest within Macon. Good for groups and night life. They have a bar but we didn't try. Food was good but could have been better with serving (amount) for the price. I would have rated 3.5 because 1) They put us in the table without utensils/napkins, it was't ready/set like the others. 2) The server put the silverware directly on the table without any napkin at all. Imagine if they wiped that table with rug or cleaning sprays etc. 3) The server misunderstood our order, so please make sure they repeat the order or there'll be a good wait esp at dinner time.

Went here for Thursday night dinner. Super good. Great staff. Super hard workers. I felt bad that there was only two waitresses so we had a little wait to order our next drinks We sat at the sushi bar. It's fun waiting the sushi being made. Had four rolls. All were good. I should have taken a picture of the menu. I knew what we got. I think we ordered the beauty and the beast and the sumo roll for sure We wish we ordered more food. Next time we'll get the boat! And the sake was great too!

Food was not very tasty. Rice came out cold and had a strong fish sauce flavor. I returned mine but the manager said that my sister had eaten too much of hers (food pictured). I gave it a chance because of a local recommendation but there are much better options around.

very eccentric lil spot. went for some hibachi to only be told that although you can buy hibachi there no showmanship anymore. all food is made in the kitchen or behind the sushi bar. the hostess informed me they just started all you can eat sushi, so we went with that. their eel just melts like butter. I could eat mountains of it. pink lady, beauty and the beast, & spicy girl were all delicious. great amount of food for a good price. plus friendly and quick service. it's hard to find a gem like this in macon

SUMO serves high quality hibachi! I have ordered take out from here quite a few times and have always had a great experience. I usually order the hibachi shrimp and chicken. The vegetables and meat are seasoned so well! The hibachi meal also comes with soup and a side salad so it's a very filling meal and the portions are great! I ordered a side of pork dumplings to go along with my meal and they were pretty good. Crispy on the outside. This picture is a lunch sized hibachi meal.

More of a 3.75 out of 5 rather than 3. Or put it this way, a 7.5 out of 10 ( if it were possible to rate this way ) Convenient to interstate 75. Driving 8 to 10 hours a day... then this is your sushi spot in Macon. Or 50 mile radius around Macon. Had two hamachi rolls & one spicy tuna roll. Was a lot of food and priced extremely fairly. FOOD COMES OUT FAST ! Like lightening speed. That's excellent if you are on a tight time schedule. Tried to order a roll that they didn't understand. Just STICK to their menu and everything will be fine. Don't get creative. GREAT PITSTOP for more than adequate sushi.

I was scared it would be dry but boy was I wrong!!! It was seasoned to perfection and so hot and delicious...can't believe I almost passed on it. Located in Downtown Macon, parking is available via street parking. Finding a close spot on the weekend is like winning the Mega Million, possible, but don't count on it. We lucked up on this night and found a spot directly across from the restaurant. As we made our way to the entrance, we were unexpectedly greeted by a woman passionately yelling obscenities at us. Nothing like a little downtown ambiance to set the mood. Thankfully, the heavy police presence on every corner made me feel safe enough to proceed to the restaurant. Once inside, the chaos faded instantly. We were welcomed by a gregarious and friendly staff, informed them of our reservation, and were seated immediately. On this particular Saturday, they weren't overly busy, so we even had the luxury of choosing which booth best suited our comfort level. The atmosphere is intimate and upscale without being stuffy. Think dim lighting, elegant music, exposed ceilings, and décor that says "rustic charm" but also "yes, this entrée will cost more than $30." Our waiter was professional, attentive, and genuinely pleasant, the kind of service that makes you relax and stop checking the time. We started with cocktails: I ordered the strawberry lemon drop martini, and my husband opted for an old fashioned. Both were well-crafted, smooth, and strong enough to make us forget about the crazy lady outside. For appetizers, we each ordered the crab cake. You get one small crab cake, but it was tasty and respectable by Middle Georgia standards. Entrées are à la carte, so order accordingly. I ordered the Chilean sea bass with Brussels sprouts and spinach, while my husband chose the salmon with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Both fish dishes were cooked perfectly and tasted fresh, with sauces that paired beautifully. The Brussels sprouts were crispy, flavorful, and addictive. My husband said his mashed potatoes were possibly the creamiest he's ever had. All of the food was outstanding. Dessert options include their 3rd & Cherry cobbler, cheesecake, and crème brûlée. Heads up: desserts are made to order and take about 20 minutes. Translation, order dessert early unless you're prepared to sit there long enough to contemplate life choices. The restaurant and restrooms were clean, which always earns bonus points. Overall, we had a lovely experience at 3rd & Cherry. It's an excellent choice for a special occasion, date night, or anytime you want to feel a little fancy without leaving Middle Georgia. We'll definitely be back.

Tucked away in an unsuspecting corner of Downtown Macon, this fine dining English-style steakhouse established in 1997, offers an experience that unfolds slowly, from a puzzling entrance to a surprisingly polished dining room... and ultimately to some of the best food I've had in Middle Georgia. ARRIVAL + FIRST IMPRESSIONS Because Downtown Macon was buzzing on this particular Saturday night, my husband and I ended up parking a couple of blocks away and taking the alley the GPS insisted was our route. Let's just say the alley definitely had "first date horror movie" vibes--but the beautifully framed photos lining the walls helped cut the sketch factor a bit. Once inside, we were greeted by a friendly, outgoing staff... and immediately greeted by something else: the cigar smoke. Downtown Grill has a full bar with an impressive oak humidor and a selection of bourbons, wines, and scotches that could easily impress the most seasoned connoisseur. But that also means the bar area is smoky--very smoky. I actually questioned whether we'd wandered into the wrong place until the hostess whisked us to the back dining room, where the ambiance shifted entirely. The dining room is intimate, classic, and much more aligned with "fine dining." Cozy booths, dim lighting, soft background music, truly an escape. And once seated, I didn't smell the cigar smoke at all. Bonus points for the restrooms using cloth napkins for hand-drying, an eco-friendly and elegant touch. We had noted on our reservation that it was our anniversary, but there was no acknowledgment. Not a deal breaker, but definitely unexpected for a fine dining restaurant, especially one that's been around this long. Our server was polished, professional, and consistently attentive. No complaints there. I started with the Elderflower Refresher and my husband with an Old Fashioned, both solid. But the star of the cocktail lineup? The Lavender Margarita. An absolute hit and something I'd go back for alone. For an appetizer, we ordered the Lump Crab Cakes. As a Maryland native, my standards are sky-high. These weren't "lump" crab cakes, but for Middle Georgia they were acceptable. They were flavorful, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the aioli drizzled on top. Then came the French Onion Soup. I'd seen the rave reviews and they were absolutely justified, easily the best I've had in years. Rich, savory, cheesy perfection. We both opted for the special of the night, the Salmon. My husband's came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I chose broccoli and green beans. The verdict? 5 out of 5. The salmon was cooked with precision--flaky, flavorful, expertly seasoned. The veggies were fresh, vibrant, and seasoned beautifully. Truly, this was the best meal I've had in Middle Georgia, hands down. Downtown Grill may not be where I'd choose to celebrate a milestone (the lack of acknowledgment and smoky entrance made sure of that), but it is where I'll go when I want a reliably excellent, well-executed meal. The kitchen is clearly the star of the show, and they delivered an unforgettable dining experience. We'll absolutely be back, maybe not for the anniversary, but definitely for that food.

After waiting 15 minutes, we were told they were only running about 10 minutes behind. Throughout the wait, all we heard from the staff was, "Thank you for your patience." Once we were finally seated, we noticed that most of the dining room was still waiting on food, with tables looking around and only drinks in front of them. At that point, we decided not to take the risk of having to wait forever for our food as well. We were starving, so for the first time in my life, I walked out of a restaurant to go to another. I don't know what has happened to Downtown Grill, but it has really gone downhill. It was a disappointing way to celebrate what should have been a special evening.
