Wonderful sushi, haven't tried much else there but hibachi is solid. Thursday night special is great. Friendly staff.

3 stars are based only on the food quality being very good. The chefs know what they're doing and I enjoyed the food...the service however, left much to be desired!... We wont be back again. Nothing worse than consistantly bad service and a feeling that no one knows the product their selling. Upon entering we stood at the front desk for about 5 minutes while probably 7 people all stared at us while we stood there, we kept making eye contact to try to get someone to come to the front desk...however this didn't happen until I began to search for a new restaurant to eat at, one where they actually wanted to make money and would serve us. Finally they asked if we wanted to eat, I said "are you even open!?" *I was a little upset at this point* then they made some excuse as to why their was no one at the front desk and didn't know where they were...off to a great start... Most sushi restaurants have a dish listed as Nigiri, its sashimi on top of a block of rice...simple, but my favorite both for taste and I can tell the quality of the fish being used easier. They didn't know what I was talking about and had to gather 3 people at my small table to discuss this...I'm surprised. We talk about it and determine what it is they call it and where it is on the menu. I POINTED at the menu and told the woman what I wanted. Just 2 of each, as they came in singles. 2.50 each piece... she brought me 2 rolls...not nigiri. One salmon one tuna, each were 5.00....and about 6 pieces. Zero attention to detail, I didn't get what I wanted or even close to the amount I was expecting as I had orded 2 other rolls, so now I'm eating 4 rolls. It's a good thing I eat big, but normally i order small until i decide if I like a place or not. My wife had a problem simply ordering a little salad. After discovering my 3 year olds dish came with a salad in which she wouldn't eat, my wife tells her to take her salad off the menu because she will just eat my child's instead. She acknowledged, seemed simple enough. Long after my wife had eaten our child's salad and I'd have had all my food for a while and eaten almost 2 rolls, the woman comes back and tells my wife her salad was on its way..... what salad?? There was only supposed to be one, then she told my wife that she did order a salad in which my wife said I thought we discussed that I would eat my child's salad and that mine would be removed. I was there obviously and heard the exchange and that is indeed what was supposed to have happened. Later the only other table in the room, which was a woman and child next to us, had flagged the waitress to inform her that the food that had been delivered a while ago wasn't hers. So the waitress comes and grabs it then turns to us and says "oh they haven't touched it yet" and sets it on our table... I'm left wondering "how would you even know considering you haven't been paying attention all night! So we're done, we've decided to leave. We hadn't touched our water and then waitress comes to ask us if we wanted more water.... just look at the table! Our glasses are FULL. Lol. I dont like to be mean, but they seriously need to be more picky about their staff... looking back I'm very curious if they even had a manager present because it didn't seem like it. If there was a manager present than they need to get it together and train the staff better after being more selective. I appreciate the food quality. I was satisfied with the actual food, so was my wife and this is the only reason after this experience that I gave it a 3 stars; otherwise I'd have given it a 1 or 2. They just seemed so clueless from the first minute all the way to the end. Doea it really take 3 people crowding your table to discuss what Nigiri is at a Japanese restaurant? I came in with a sore throat and a need for good food. I ordered hot green tea (first time ever) and miso soup came with my entree..i absolutely loved it and it helped my throat. I was shocked that I recieved multiple refills of green tea (soooooo grateful)..soup was delicious..loved the presentation of my entree and enjoyed the taste just as much. I told everyone I can about this place locally. This place has an amazing service. The hibachi food is very good. My family and I used to go once a month. It was great time we would get sake they have great stuff. Recently the hibachi area was under construction I was bummed out we couldn't do the hibachi table anymore but figured they were upgrading. Well we went last time and it's gone no more hibachi tables. "What shame" I heard as another man and his son walked into the old hibachi area only to find tables and chairs. Same my wife muttered, I of course repeated what a shame is right. They still have hibachi food to order but idk it's just not the same. read more

We saw this place by chance and ended up having our meal here. Turns out, they've just opened and we were absolutely amazed! We ordered some Gyoza and the Love Boat for 2. Also, the chef sent some samples our way which I forgot to ask the name of the dish. God only knows all the emotions I went through with that first bite; it was glorious. I had a huge grin...you know, that one you give out when flavor hits your soul. The customer service was superb. I am so glad we found this gem. After traveling for the past 3 weeks this was by far the BEST meal we've had!! We had the Tiger Roll and Beef Yakisoba. Both were delicious!! Would definitely recommend and will most certainly be back whenever we're in the area...or even if we're not that close we'll make a special trip for more. read more

Tome to wait less than 10 min, but it was 2:30pm, so not busy at all. Clean exterior, interior, and bathroom. Staff masked, doing best to keep distance.. Patrons? Well, it's GA, so thanks Kemp... Be warned, they list numerous specials like 30 to 50 % off, kids eats for a buck, etc on a very confusing board. You won't get any of it! You will pay full price! You have to sit in certain sections, on the right day, time and hour. If you ask three times before ordering they will tell you yes then charge you full price because they didn't understand what you asked numerous times, numerous ways, so they would get what you asked. The place is dirty on the outside with trash all around the parking lot but clean inside. The waiter was pleasant and very polite. The reason I gave the place a 2 star rating is because the sashimi deluxe I ordered stated that it would come with soup and salads but the waiter said it was a mistake on their menu and it would only come with only one. This wasn't a cheap photo copy menu, this is a menu that would cost a lot of money to print and it look like it's been used for awhile. This just ruined the whole eating experience. Once I got my sashimi, the presentation was great and the good was good but I just couldn't enjoy it. I might just be a little anal about it but if the menu states something, they should stand by it. I have tried shashimi at several different places around the area and of the local offerings, the majority were subpar to mediocre at best. Well here comes Sumo to the rescue! This place is hands down the best location in Middle Georgia for sashimi and sushi. I had a Sushi and shashimi combo and Oh My Goodness! The freshness of the shashimi was amazing! That kind of melt in your mouth texture and goodness rivals any offerings from the big city places I have eaten at. Each piece of nigiri sushi was perfectly presented and very tasty. The California roll that accompanies the combo was good as well. My wife and kids had shrimp yaki soba, shrimp chahan, chicken yaki udon and a shrimp tempura roll. The cooked entrees were large enough for leftovers and everyone said their dishes were delicious. My daughter wolfed down her entire shrimp tempura roll and helped work on my combo. We had fried cheesecake, strawberry mochi ice cream, and vanilla fried tempura ice cream for dessert. All the dessert dishes were delicious. I will try the hibachi on my next visit and update my review then. I most definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Japanese restaurant. read more

The 'Spicy Girl' was good. Nice presentation. My first visit was nice. The young lady waiting my table was on top of everything. The avocado salad was good as well. I love their ginger dressing. My second visit was good but seemed like I was a bother because I asked to be seated in a different area from where they wanted to seat me. We have been here a couple of times since the Rona. A few weeks ago my family and I did the hibachi and it was entertaining and funny to me. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. Food was pretty tasty to me. I had the scallops and shrimp! Today we went during lunch time and there was pretty much no one there and that was nice. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Today we ordered sushi. We had the Spicy Garlic Edamame, Philadelphia roll, Beauty and the Beast, and Yummy Yummy Roll. Every time I have had the Edamame, it never disappoints me! It is definitely my fav and I order it every time that I am here. Philadelphia was pretty taste. It is simple and a smaller portion but I do love how you can taste the smokiness in the salmon! Yummy Yummy Roll was surprisingly good. It has mango on top. I'm not into sweet but it was good. The Beauty and the Beast was the best out of the three. The staff all worse masks covering. We stopped here on our way from Atlanta to Savannah based on the yelp reviews. I don't know if they were having a bad day or if the previous yelp reviewers have never had good hibachi. The food was very bland. I got the shrimp and scallop combo and my friend got the steak and shrimp. First,, our orders were wrong and they made no effort to apologize for the error. The scallops were so thin. I think they cut one scallop into four thin pieces, so I paid $16 for one scallop and four shrimp. We had to drench the veggies and shrimp in hot sauce to get any flavor on them. The shrimp were also very tough. My friend reports the steak also lacked flavor. They couldn't even seem to get a simple thing like edamame right; it was cold and half of it was friveled up and brownish.. The miso soup was watered down and ginger dressing had more taste of honey mustard than ginger (perhaps it's a new taste of ginger ;)) The love boat had even less love to offer; it was a lot of fish but the quality and taste definitely didn't measure up to the presentation. Spicy garlic edamame is a must. It is spicy so keep water near! We ordered the $5 martini, I had a cosmo and my boyfriend got the starburst martini. Both delicious. We ordered the Tiger roll and the Fantastic roll. Fresh ingredients and incredible flavor. Didnt need soy sauce, the flavors were enough on their own. We got the mango mochi ice cream for dessert - a perfect little sweet finish to the meal. I will absolutely be back. Took my girls to Sumo tonight for their Birthday and everything was AMAZING! We had appetizers that were delicious. The Hibachi Chicken and shrimp was scrumptious. The sushi was incredible and delicious and so fresh. We ended the meal with Green tea ice cream. We will definitely be coming back. You will not be disappointed coming to SUMO and you will leave so full and very happy. I have so much food leftover for at least 2 more meals. Come to SUMO for a really incredible meal. I usually go to SUMO while I'm visiting Macon. I usually get the simple hand rolls. Today I got the lunch special (tuna, salmon, and California) and something was not right. The California rolls were good per usual, but the salmon and tuna did not taste as fresh as the other times I've had takeout. After consuming the food my boyfriend and I began to feel a bit nauseous. This place is a hidden gem - beyond amazing!! We had a surprise 60th birthday party for our mother with 30+ guests. We had been talking with Jen since November 2018 regarding the party specifics and she setup and oversaw our party with such care. No detail was left out and everything was perfect. The food is well seasoned, oversized proportions, succulent/colossal shrimp, excellent cooked steaks - everything we ordered was cooked perfectly. Drinks solid and not watered down - they really should charge a lot more for their meal service. We are from Atlanta and the prices do not compare - huge savings. The chefs - friendly, entertaining and wonderful with children. We had (3) chefs to prepare for our total party.
