I know it's been a while since I've been here. I sat at the bar this evening, and was entertained by Paul the bartender. Very friendly very knowledgeable and I had a wonderful meal. I came in 20 minutes before the place closed and I was still able to get prime rib. This was the best service that I have had here. It's a very casual place to come. You can dress up if you want, however, it's a little better than beach attire or a dive bar thing. They will still obviously serve you, but I think nicer attire is best. read more

We wanted to celebrate our daughters' university graduations, but with a twist, one didnt know some family members who couldn't attend the ceremony were able to meet for dinner. We got there early to try and coordinate with the staff. They were completely on board & excited to help. With their help, we gave our daughter the biggest surprise & we couldn't have done it without the staff's help. Oh yeah, the food & drinks were all excellent, too! Birthday dinner on Sunday night. We like Max Dale's. This trip was to celebrate a birthday. We had a good time. The food was great. We had three rib eyes, the nightly special and salads and appetizers. It was all very good. Our server was friendly and professional. She interacted with my 2YO grandson which he liked. He's a sucker for a brunette . Max Dale's has been around a long time. It is an old school steak house. Reminds me of the 1980's which is good. Their martini lounge/bar is very nice. Dimly lit, dark wood, plush wing back chairs. We will definitely be spending some time in there. There's just one thing I need to mention. When the check comes and you look at the tip suggestions do the math yourself. The amounts they put down next to the percentages are way off. Way off. For a $300 bill the 10% suggestion was $51. I'm no math major but last I checked 10% of 300 is 30, not 51. The 15 and 20% options were also adjusted way higher than the actual math would make them. I seem to remember something on the internet about this happening all over Washington. It's a scam and I wonder where that extra money goes when people just go with the suggested tipping scale. read more

Max Dale's reminds me of a classic steak house from yesteryear, but with a modern twist. I walked in and was immediately taken by the colorful bar and large TVs displaying a baseball game. Don't misunderstand me, though. It didn't come across like a sports bar. More like a subdued place for quiet conversation. While waiting for my companion, I enjoyed a beer and watched the game. The service was fast and the beer was cold! When my companion arrived, we moved to the main dining area. I love how the high booth backs are arranged to promote private conversation. If you're there for a date night, this would definitely be a plus. I had the prime rib, which was fantastic. Very tender and cooked perfectly. I wished that they had a baked potato option, but I settled for the mashed. Those were good. I didn't sample my companion's meal, but her fish looked good, and she reported that it tasted good as well. The only thing that would have made this place more fun for our visit would have been if an old dude was playing piano in the bar, complete with an empty tip jar. We had reservations for 3 last night, a Friday, at 6 pm. We were seated right away and waited for some time to get waters. Our waitress, Dyan H, who after what seemed like an excessive wait took our orders. Our food came 55 minutes after we initially sat down. I ordered the $44 prime rib that was a bit on the cool side, not presented very well on the plate and basically...flavorless. Our server never once asked how our food was. Friends treated me for dinner at Max Dale's for my birthday. It's a cute place inside--lots of wood and beveled glass--you can tell it's been in business for a long time. Interesting history too, which is worth a short read on their website. Loved the drinks. Indigo Sidecar which was a nice blend of empress indigo gin, muddled lemons and citrus liqueur with a sugared rim, and which resulted in its own unique flavor. And the Hummingbird, which was a lovely concoction of sparkling wine with elegant elderflower liqueur with a lovely foaminess on the top. Bartender got it just right as I find that elderflower liqueur can overpower with its own sweetness if overdone. I have almost never met a fry I didn't like--except for waffle fries, which I find too big and heavy. But the blue cheese waffle fries were fantastic! I didn't expect to like them even though I love blue cheese: the blue cheese dressing softened them and made them a delicious conveyor for said cheese! Chili lime prawns were very nice as was the classic Caesar. Dinner portions were generous with very nice accompaniments. I would recommend asking the chef's recommendation for steak-doneness if you are flexible about this. Not a granola person, but I very much enjoyed bites of the Berry Crisp, so that too was a nice surprise. The Brown Butter Cake (lemon curd, port berry sauce, vanilla ice cream, crumbled pecans and fresh blueberries--Ooo!!!) was utterly gorgeous. Bucket list trip. I live in the Lynnwood Everett area. We had two Black Angus restaurants in the area in the 70's-90's. Used to love the architectural design of the 70's inside when I was a kid. They then remodeled and that history and memory was gone. Been wanting to come here for years and years after reading an article about how this location and restaurant used an old Black Angus blueprint to rebuild after a fire. I walked in the door with my brother and almost fell to my knees. What a weird mind fnck. Excited to sit down and enjoy the large back seating areas I remembered, but wanted to read the framed newspaper articles on the wall by the entrance. The history I learned about Max Dale's Mount Vernon was all stuff I did not know. However I was there to read about the history of Black Angus style atmosphere and design and the story behind that move. I guess what I'm saying is this place has two histories, one for you people from Mount Vernon from long ago, and the Building architecture for people from out of town that grew up with Black Angus restaurants. I wished there was articles about both. After all that is actually what brought me here or I would have never known about this place. I guess just wishing there was both stories ? Had absolutely great food and even better service. The only downfall being is my perfectly cooked medium rare prime rib for some reason had no red meat juice coming out of it. You know just that little bit of non-blood red meat juice perfect prime rib has ? Wasn't there. So it was just more like a piece of protein I guess but it was delicious. The creamy sour cream horseradish sauce had a little bit of some kind of flavor in it, makes me wonder if there was a seasoning or a third ingredient? Wasn't at all bad but wasn't what I personally like. And the mashed potatoes were way too firm and overly garlic or seasoned or something? Very very dense and firm. Dehydrated? Asparagus was perfect. We've eaten here for years, maybe 3-5 times annually. Food has been reliably good, above average to us. However, Service (Wait person(s)) has always been questionable, hit and miss, good and bad. This particular evening, 6 of us were served by Heather C. This wait person was cordial, respectful, courteous, engaging, helpful and overall fun for nearly 2 hours while we were there. We joked, we laughed, we ultimately had an excellent experience and while prior services were lackluster, this was worthy of a near 100% positive review! Say "near", because as the night drew on, the guests expanded and we lost sight of Heather for a bit longer at times - understandably - but that was the "near" part, otherwise, great job/service AND food this time around. read more

Max Dale's catered my sister's wedding, which was held in August, at Stepping Stones. The food was fabulous and the staff were so professional and efficient. The attention to detail was spot on and we so appreciated the traditional place settings. Paul Pickering and his team went way above and beyond our expectations. My husband and I came here tonight for our Valentines Day dinner. We had reservations and were promptly seated by a nice hostess. Unfortunately that was the only nice person we encountered tonight. Our server Karla was either annoyed by having to work tonight or just plain hates this holiday. She wasn't very friendly or welcoming. I had no idea there were any specials tonight as she did not relay anything to us besides giving us a drink and dinner menu. My wife and I had prime rib for dinner and Max Dale's was still our favorite place for a great beef dinner. I had the 16 oz and my wife had the 12 oz. It came with a wonderful mash potatoes that puts mine in check. The asparagus was a tad bit over cooked but with everything else spot on I can give that a pass. I know dinning dollars are tight right now. But give yourself a treat with your significant other. Heck bring the whole family if you desire. The Waite staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. Seating is plentiful. Drinks are made well by an expert bar tender who is so friendly. I give you 41/2 stars for this staple in dinning Mount Vernon Wa. read more

Old-school steakhouse.that reminds me of Stuart Anderson's Black Angus with the high sided booths however the food is far better and the prices far higher than I remember at SABA's. That said, the quality of food and the impeccable service is worth the price. Brant C. did a wonderful job with timely service without rushing us or being overbearing. Our app was a sweet and spicy calamari. The breading was very light, not overdone and paired nicely with the spicy aioli. We each had a a nice salad - she had the Max Dale Salad and loved it. I had the Caesar salad which was just ok, not great, but not bad. A nice crusty sourdough bread and whipped butter was served with the salads. For our entrees we each had prime rib. She had the 10 oz and I had the 13 oz. I'd swear mine was closer to 16 oz! I was a bit concerned when the menu stated it was USDA Choice rather than Prime but honestly, it was SO tender I couldn't tell the difference. There wasn't a lot of fat either. The rub wasn't overly salty and was tasty. Both were cooked perfectly, as ordered. Their au jus and creamed horseradish were good. We each had a baked potato with butter, sour cream, chives and bacon bits and some nice whole sautéed green beans. Following dinner we each had dessert with the wife's being free as it was her birthday. My creme brûlée was well done. Her ice cream pie was ok. This is our favorite place in the area for celebrations and never fails to please. Our food/non-alcoholic beverage total with tax was $110, so adding in tip the total was $140. Expensive? Yes. Worth the expense? Again, a resounding YES! We will return. read more

This is a great place to come to when you are looking for comfort food, but not in a large shopping mall. A large, roomy restaurant, sort of 1950's, l960's style, you can relax, have a glass of wine or a cocktail and some good seafood or steak entrees. No one bugs you in your booth. My partner and I split a Caesar salad, some wonderful blue cheese waffle fries (something really different), and chili lime prawn appetizers. The portions on the entrees were quite filling, but our NY strip steak was overdone and a bit tough. However, I wolfed down the garlic mashed potatoes which came with it. For dessert, our hostess Danielle recommended the berry crisp and it proved just the ticket. I understand that the burgers here are pretty good, so will have to return to check them out. Used to be good many years ago when my uncle ate here, but not any more. 3 of us ordered the Filet Mignon. Mmmmmmm.... looks good. Try cutting it with a fork... nope. Get out the knife and saw through it and pop a piece in my mouth. Chewed... chewed... and chewed some more. All 3 of us had the chewiest cut of beef ever experienced. I've grilled up my own filets at home that cost $30 a pound and this was nothing like that. Notified the waitress but she said she wasn't able to do anything about it. Dec 2, 2023 I stopped in and went to the bar to watch the UW huskies men's basketball game. I took a seat at the bar and no employee even acknowledged my presence, much less brought me a glass of water or a menu. I sat there for 15 minutes and no one even said hello to me. So I went upstairs to the restaurant and spoke to the manager on duty who was a 24 yo kid who hardly said a word to me and starred at me like I was speaking Russian. Clearly they don't care about my business. They should, as I drive by there 2X per week and have plenty of money to spend there. I have been here several times and every time the service is lousy. If you are going to charge over $20 for a meal, I expect excellent service. I went last night and it took at least 10 minutes for my wine to come. It took at least 30 minutes for food to come out. The people in my party who ordered a meal, were served their soup or salad about 20 minutes after they ordered. I ordered the fish and chips which were ok. A tad bit greasy. I did not care for their coleslaw. Fries were good. Water was not refilled enough. My glass should not be completely empty before a wait staff refills it. Update: I have been coming here once a month with a group of ladies because it is hard to find a restaurant that seats 10 people. After this last visit we will not be returning and have found a different restaurant to accommodate us. This last visit 2 orders were wrong. Someone ordered a pork loin and received a pork chop. Someone ordered prawns and chips and received fish and chips. I ordered nachos which is an appetizer and received it not only after everyone's meal came but most people were done eating when it finally arrived. We then ordered the s'more brownie special that came out ice cold and had to ask for it to be heated up. We are paying $20 a meal for terrible service and food. Do yourself a favor and pick a different restaurant that actually gives great service and food with their upscale prices. They did comp the messed up meals and late nachos but this is a restaurant that has crappy service and food mistakes consistently. read more

It's obviously in an old Black Angus, right down to the sunken seating area and tables with brand symbols on them. The booths are full back half rounds, it feels right out of my childhood in a good way. My husband had the steak pasta, pieces of filet and sauteed mushrooms with cavatelli pasta; it was basically a jumped up stroganoff but it was very tasty. I had the 12oz prime rib with garlic potatoes and asparagus spears, which was excellent if a bit pricey at $38. We got the blue cheese waffle fries as an appetizer, which my husband scarfed down. Basically he ended up in a food coma afterwards lol. Definitely worth it if you're in your 40-50's and are nostalgic for old school steakhouses like this. read more

We ordered 16 oz to bring extra home we brought all trim home and had 6 1/2 oz off each potion nothing but fat. Potatoes were dry cold. Dinner salad with watery dressing and not even a tomato in sight. Two dinners one glass wine no appetizers or dessert and the price was $150 before tip. This was twice what we paid for same meal 6 months ago and food better back then. Wouldn't recommend them anymore. read more

My wife and I ate at Max Dale's recently. First the good: the server was friendly, helpful and attentive. Great service! She recommended a wine my wife loved. The desserts were excellent. Now the just OK: appetizer and Caesar salad. Nothing to write home about. The problem was with one of the steaks: my wife and I ordered the ribeye steaks. My wife's steak was fine and she enjoyed it. Mine, on the other hand, was stringy, tough and undercooked. I am taking the view that I was just unlucky to get a poor cut of steak. I probably should have sent it back. Happy Valentine's Day to us! We ordered five of the filet mignon special Valentine Lockdown entrees. I ordered them medium rare. They were all perfectly cooked and beautifully presented on a bed of roasted potatoes and pieces of asparagus. We had been going here for years, but several changes have been made..bread no longer served with the now lousy prime rib (formerly excellent, now tough & chewy not to mention $40!!)..salad horrible with the deep fried prawns (they were just OK)..salad mostly arugula, no lettuce that we could find..not long ago, they had wonderful crisp, cold salads! Sorry but this place is bad. The food is flavored for old people. Nothing had flavor and everything was over priced. I would never try this place again. For $12 you can make any steak an 'oscar' and their Oscar is essentially a cup of crab soup. Vegetables are overcooked with no seasoning. Horseradish tastes strong of mayo, no heat. The 'firecracker' shrimp appetizer was SO chewy and probably the weirdest appetizer I've ever had. The fellow customers were all super old and I felt like there should have been an ashtray on every table. read more
