Sumo 11. Sumo's Roll Sushi Burrito
    Emily C.

As a lover of all things raw fish, I knew I wanted to give this place a try! I got the Sumo's Roll sushi burrito (~$13) and got soy sauce, wasabi and ginger on the side! The fish itself was very fresh and they made it on the spot for me, and for the price, I think it was well worth it with the portion size being quite large! Also, there are a few benches in front of the truck to sit at and enjoy the food and ambiance wise, seems pretty safe and chill! But I'm taking a star off because the flavor was definitely a little lacking. I don't believe the burrito itself has any sauce in it, so having soy sauce on the side definitely helped with the flavor! Without the sauce, it would have been too plain! Also, this is my second time trying to come here, as the first time they were closed even though Google said they were open.. I recommend calling first to check that they are open before going!

I called ahead and ordered a lucky dragon burrito to go because I had a short lunch break. When I arrived 10 minutes later, I waited another 5 minutes to pick up my order. Which is alright, just not as speedy as I hoped since I was in a hurry. The burrito itself was pretty tasty, I only wish the portion was bigger. I'm glad I tried it though!

I've always been more impressed by the concept of the sushi burrito than I have been the execution, but I must admit that Sumo Sushi does it well! Everything tastes fresh and is packed with flavor, and it maintains it structural integrity, which is always my gripe about burritos in general. I go for the #9, the Lucky Dragon. It has salmon and tuna, and includes a japanese omelette. Add in the lettuce and cucumber then wrap it in rice and seaweed and it's a filling meal that tastes fresh and has a great texture. It's certainly one of the better sushi burritos that I've had. I like that it's tucked away in a corner of campus that has a number of other trucks thus also some picnic tables. It's convenient for when you need a place to sit, and for when you're eating with other people who might want a different kind of food for lunch. I just moved close by and while I'm not a PSU student, I'm quickly learning its a destination for nearby food cart options. I'll be at this one pretty regularly.

PSU PPF - spiced tuna and onions
    Ai M.

Convenient for students at PSU - and as a former student I decided to go for the PSU - past, present, and future. I love spicy tuna and onions, so decided it can't go wrong.... as it used to be expensive, but now I can't seem to find anything under $8. I think there's 3 customers ahead of me, and it takes me 15 minutes to get here. Doesn't leave lotta time for work lunch to grab and go. Closer location has been vacant (last 2 times) so had to come up this way. So commute is -1 Star. Customer service was friendly and one manages making the food whole another takes the order. I enjoy highly artisan dainty sushi, but sometimes it's nice to gobble it up like a burrito. I like putting on generous amount of wasabi and let tears drop as I stuff myself with the sushi. It's very fulfilling and I can only eat half the portion - remainder tends to get hard and nowhere near as good after it's in a fridge. So I give it to local homeless population to pass on the kindness and not waste food.

    Shrimp Tempura Roll

Located very close to the PSU Bookstore, this is a fantastic food cart with an interesting take on sushi. Most of the rolls are rolled up like burritos would be. You can customize your burrollto (I know, but I had to), or you can choose from a number of predetermined ones. I personally wanted the #3 roll with fried chicken in it, but it appears to be super popular because they ran out of it that day. Notes: They also have non-Sushi items like gyouza, spring rolls, etc. Ordered: #5 aka MYZK Sushi Burrito-- Came with shrimp tempura, fish eggs, rice, Japanese mayo, cucumbers, and egg wrapped in seaweed. This was my second choice, but it was still very delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh and everything came together quite nicely. I'd like to also note how aesthetically pleasing the rolls were made to be; it almost felt wrong ripping off the paper to get to them. ($8.50) Service: Excellent!! The guy with the light brown hair who took my order was very nice (and cute too (^^)). Wait time: 6-7 minutes. Bill: $

a sushi burrito cart that whips out sushi burritos for $8 to $10. they have a few to pick from that are designed by them and you can always build your own. it takes a few minutes for the food to come out but when it does it's rather satisfying. the food tastes great, however, just be aware it's like 20% smaller in size than most other sushi burritos around town

    #8 Lucky Dragon
    Mi N.

Super convenient spot by PSU run by some friendly folks! For unagi fanatics like me, #8 Lucky Dragon is the only sushi burrito on the set menu that comes with eel. Made fresh and great balance of flavors. Compared to Sushirrito in SF, these are much smaller. I usually eat half a Sushirrito for a meal; here I can eat both halves easily. Vegetarian and vegan friendly!

I'm a lunchtime regular at this cart and I love their fresh fish packed Sumo Roll. It's hard to go wrong. They've got a sushi burrito for every palette (vegan, fried chicken, traditional, etc) and a 'build-your-own' option. There's no seating, but the food comes in cute pink boxes with all the fixings (wasabi and pickled ginger) so I find it extremely portable. The 'burrito' itself is hefty and structurally sound. The dang thing hasn't fallen apart on me yet, but the vegetable heavy options my friends get tend to leave a tiny leaf-litter pile of shredded carrots and cabbage. I couldn't care less about the mess though. It's too dang delicious! The cart's convenient location across from the PSU bookstore / TriMet stop means that there can be quite the line at lunch. Luckily they're open till 8 pm, which is around the time I'm done with happy hour and hunting around for something tasty, quick, and filling.

Good service, pathetic portions. Don't waste your money on the poke bowl, but the burritos and sides are always good and the price is no more or less than anywhere else in town that sells the same stuff.

This is probably one of my favorite food carts on the PSU campus. From the moment you walk up, you are greeted with a smile as your order is taken. From then, it's not too long of a wait as your roll is prepared. They don't pre-make the sushi rolls, but make then as you order, and your roll is always fresh. I would definitely recommend trying them out, and I'm currently a little bummed that it's summer break - I'm not in the area to go grab a sushi burrito. But this food cart definitely warrants a try - the burritos are delish!

I think the price tag of $100/person can initially be steep but you can easily spend this much on these nicer orders. I was also worried they might drop the quality during the AYCE portion but it continued to be delicious and service was consistent throughout (there was another group of 13 people so service was a bit slow having to divide time between the rest of the restaurant and them). I highly recommend this place and will for sure come back. Some delicious quality fish and my new favorite if I'm coming hungry!

If you're not downtown, they also have a smaller location on the east side! To start I got the takoyaki, or fried octopus balls. It was crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, with a tender and chewy piece of octopus, topped with a sweet sauce and fish flakes. Yum!! For my main, I wanted to try one of their broth-less udons and chose one of the specials, the Mentaiko kama-tama Udon--house-made flat udon noodles tossed in and onion oil, bonito, and soy dashi sauce. The noodles are topped with Men-taiko (spicy Tarako caviar), soft egg, tobiko, tempura puffs, green onions, and nori. I also added ikura (as recommended). I've never had flat udon noodles or broth-less udon but I'm forever changed. The minimal broth allows the toppings to be the stars of the show, and here was no exception. The flavors were complex, but balanced, and the variety of textures kept me coming back for another bite. The soy dashi sauce was full of umami and a subtle spicy kick, the fish eggs added pops of saltiness, and the tempura puffs and green onions added some crunch and offset the richness from the other toppings. The house-made noodles also made a huge difference, they were chewy but tender, and soaked up the soy dashi perfectly. I could not recommend Shigezo Izakaya enough!

Im taking 5 PCs of otoro sashimi for $25?! Speechless! We outdid ourselves and ordered like 3 rounds of sushi for the three of us and bill came out to $200 ish with drinks! Really easy to do since they had such an extensive menu with just about everything from appetizers, tapas sashimi, hand rolls, nigiri, fried items, sushi ROLLS, ramen/noodles, and skewers! Highlights were definitely the: -otoro (5 pcs ~$25) -salmon medley (salmon belly and 3 other cuts) -scallop nigiri -karaage (5 pcs for $8.99) *pro tip to add their house negi sauce $1 or spicy mayo $0.50 -agedashi tofu (fried tofu) -wagyu beef skewer $8.50 -citrus YTG roll ($15) so refreshing with hamachi (yellowtail), tempura flakes, and a house jalapeño ponzu sauce ! I might try for the Alaskan roll next time considering it was hard to identify the scallops in the baked roll but still kinda tasty if you're into the warm baked rolls! I was unfortunately really wanting to taste the scallops! Overall we had a great time! Service was nice and attentive! The drinks were really affordable and generous too! Momoyama definitely delivers in the flavor department. What I was struck by was not just the freshness of the fish, nor the expert cuts...but the diversity of flavors. Perfect example - the King salmon with truffle knocked my socks off. I am not really a fan of salmon. I find its raw texture to often be a little soft to my taste and the funk of the omega 3s in quality salmon is just... not my bag. The truffle completely transformed the experience for me. I was not prepared for how well the earthy notes of the truffle complimented the King salmon. It made the sushi something to be savored without any of the traditional off-putting (to me) fishy funkiness. Highly recommended. Similarly, the octopus Sunomono was perfectly prepared. Often, octopus can be chewy. Not in this case. Additionally, the sauces and the salad greens complimented the dish and elevated it from traditional "sushi tastes." The bracing acidity made me want to eat more and was a delightful preamble for the rest of the meal. Service was prompt, friendly, and accommodating. We had a large group of eight and they were dutiful in informing us they had included gratuity in the bill so as to avoid double tipping. This small courtesy was not wasted on us. Service was always readily accessible without being intrusive. Orders were executed without defect and questions were answered pleasantly and with expertise. The restaurant has a pleasant and serene serving space. The bracing refrain of the "Irashai!" Greeting was a welcome touch that made me smile. Overall highly recommended. We finally went with a combo and were disappointed to see it served in a boat! That just seemed like a gimmicky, touristy thing, we would have preferred a plate. The fish actually was very good, and so were the salads. A shrimp nigiri was the only misstep, as the shrimp was overcooked.
